Beyond disappointing experience today at Sky Parlor. Scheduled my appointment a few weeks ago. I actually had to call them twice to get the receptionist to book it correctly since the confirmation text did not match the services verbally requested. Subsequently I received an accurate confirmation text with the time alotted for the services requested. Today at my appointment my stylist told me she didn't have the time to perform the services requested and tried to offer partial service. This was below sub-grade customer service. I have seen this stylist several times. My hair is not new to her. I booked the appointment, they confirmed they had all the time they needed, yet they didn't. I was shocked, exceedingly disappointed, surprised at their lack of an apology. The stylist tried to satisfy me with partial service, which was insulting, and so disrespectful. I now find them untrustworthy. They have lost my business due to this horrible experience. I have compared notes with other Sky Parlor customers and they are leaving the salon as well. I had heard wonderful things about Sky Parlour Salon, and if you look at the reviews it appears to be an excellent salon with professional stylists that know their stuff. Unfortunately, my experience has not been that way and I've thought long and hard about writing this review, but it needs to be shared. Jesse was my stylist, and I came in a few times for a cut, and he seemed to care and listen to what I wanted. At the start of Jan 2023, I decided to let my grey hair grow out. I understood that it would be a trying, taxing time but I was committed. The first few months were challenging but I was proud of myself and pushed through. At the 9 month mark I came to really love it and could see the hard work paying off. I went in for a cut in Nov 2023 and Jesse and I discussed putting a semi-permanent color on my hair. We discussed it in great detail, and I trusted him. We went back and forth and, in the end, I decided to do it - even though I was nervous - because he promised it would eventually wash out. It is now the end of February, and my color has not faded. My grey hairs that I had grown out for 11 months are completely gone, and the color left is a strange light brown highlight. My hair never went back to the color it was prior. I called him in January of 2024 expressing my concerns that I had wasted close to a year growing it out, and he promised me it would fade. It has not. Not only that, what's troubling is he was irritated and impatient with me on the phone. I expressed concerns that it wasn't fading completely out, I was polite throughout the call. He was clearly annoyed that I was questioning him and his process. It's now February and I don't feel comfortable, nor confident in returning to see him, and to get him to "fix it". Do you know the dedication it took to grow it out, only to have lost pretty much a year and have to start again? There was no compassion, and no professionalism from him. I can't express enough how he should not be coloring anyone's hair. I've since seen someone who conveyed a semi-permanent color in the dark brown/black family never fully fades. Not once was that explained to me, and we talked about it in detail. Had I known that I never would have agreed to it. I've accepted what has happened, and I'm dealing with it, but I felt I was treated so poorly, and by someone who had no business providing a coloring service to the public. read more

I went in for a cut last week because I wanted help on what would be the best look for me. Their website has a clear mission statement that made me believe I would get a professional consultation and frank advice. I sent an appointment request via the site's web form and mentioned what I was looking for, and then I received a follow up survey where I also stated what I was looking for. I don't think anything I wrote was passed on to the stylist. What was the point of filling all that out? When I got there, she made some quick assessments, noted that I have very nice thick hair and a good amount of wave/curl, and said I wouldn't want to cut it all off. She was clearly experienced and it seemed like she knew just what to do, but by the time she was done, my hair looked the same as it did before. I guess she said what I wanted to hear but the result was not what I wanted to see. She did not mess up my hair, but she also did not live up to the website's promise of properly listening to my "hair wants and needs." I hate to put it this way but she basically "told me" what I wanted rather than listening. It was pretty clear at the time that I was disappointed, but we agreed I should let it fully dry and then decide if I needed any touch ups. By later in the afternoon it was clear to me that I needed an entirely different cut. I emailed them saying I was not happy and asked what they could do to make things better. Two days later I got a response from the owner, Joey, who made a lot of excuses but said he would take a look at my hair, but only on his schedule which meant he had to be home by 6 p.m. on weekdays to be with his kids, and he didn't work weekends. He wasn't very accommodating at all and his responses were days apart. Despite the website's claim of "making customer service their top priority," this guy really knows nothing about how to treat his customers. I wasted $75 and a lot of time trying to get this resolved. They will not get anymore of my business, and I will be going out of my way to let everyone know that their website is very disingenuous. I had an appointment for this morning at 11 AM at 10:49 AM while I was in the parking lot someone called me from the shop and told me that the person who was supposed to cut my hair had an emergency I got off the phone with her said, I would walk in and speak with her. I walked in to speak with her about it. I expressed that I thought it was unprofessional that no one called me sooner and that I had driven all the way over here completely rearranged my Saturday it's a gorgeous Saturday by the way, and I gave up playing pickle ball with my friends and she told me that I was wrong that it was not unprofessional, and so I will never be visiting sky parlor salon again, nor will I recommend it to any of my friends or family in the Raleigh Cary Durham area read more

This is a horrible business. I showed up for my appointment I scheduled 6 weeks ago with Yessenia. A different stylist greeted me and said she would be cutting my hair instead. I was never notified by the salon of this change; the stylist seemed to be under the impression I had been. If I had been notified I would have rescheduled immediately. I should have walked out at that point since this stylist wasn't on the website and I was unfamiliar with their skill level, but I chose to give them a chance. I won't mention her name as she was so very sweet, but I did not receive the haircut we had agreed on. We discussed a length no less than my shoulder blades and it ended up being a good 3 inches shorter. Like, Willy Wonka grade. The haircut is also lopsided while the underside of the back looks like a mullet (barely 1/2 inch in length). I asked for asymmetrical with long layers - long layers were done but it ended up being an uneven yet blunt cut because she had me look down the entire time. I've truly never received a worse haircut in my life. It's going to take literal months to grow out and there's no way for me to style it other than straighten it to be pin straight. I also work in a highly dangerous job where I could be scalped if my hair isn't pulled up into a pony. It's literally impossible for me to pull my hair up with the uneven and ridiculously short cut she gave me. This is the reason I said I wanted the length to my collarbones. I'm terrified to go to work. This salon doesn't live up to the client-centered values its website preaches to "fit your lifestyle" nor do they have staff with skill levels commiserate of their pricing. read more

Naomi is amazing!! I made my first appointment at Sky Parlor on a whim when I needed a last-minute cut and highlight update and the salon I'd been going to was booked. I've tried many salons in the area over the past few years with mixed results, but this was the best experience I've had by far. From the outside it looks like a hole-in-the-wall salon in a strip mall, but the inside is trendy and fun, and all of the staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful (not snobby or condescending like I've found at many places). Naomi is fun and sweet but also very professional, taking the time to do a full consultation with me at the start of my appointment. I've been interested in switching from foil highlights to balayage, and she gave me a full rundown of the pros and cons. We decided to skip it this time due to my time constraints, but she did face-framing foils to start getting my highlights into the right placement for balayage and also hand-painted multiple highlights in around my face for a custom, natural look. I've never had a stylist take the time to do this, even at some very pricey salons. I also came in thinking I wanted a long bob, which would be quite a bit shorter than my hair is now. Naomi asked to see pictures I'd been looking at on Pinterest and talked to me all about options of the cut. Later, when we were chatting about plans for my wedding next fall, she pointed out that a lot of brides like to grow their hair out for their weddings, and wanted to make sure I had considered it. I hadn't even thought about that, and I'm so glad she brought it up before I had her chop all of my hair off! Instead of the bob she started me on a cut to get my hair in good shape for the wedding, and we decided to postpone the bob until next year. During my consult, I mentioned that I struggle with volume and with holding a curl in my straight, fine hair. Naomi took the time to show me how to style and curl it in a way that I can actually recreate at home, and she gave me advice on some helpful products but didn't try to push me to buy anything. I offered to make an appointment later to have her show me how to style it, but she said she had time to do it then and saved me from having to book/pay for another separate appointment. I've been looking for a great stylist who I can go to on a regular basis for years now, and I feel like Naomi hit all of the marks for me: she's talented at both cut AND color, she gives great advice without being pushy, the prices at Sky Parlor are VERY reasonable, and I can get an appointment there right away (I actually made this one the night before!). So-- I decided to transition from long to short for the first time in my life. I went to Marc Christopher Salon first (because super fancy means super good haircut right?) where I felt uncomfortable and like I should've been in yoga pants with a kale smoothie in hand. There I paid $70 for the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I came to Sky Parlor after a friend -with a damn good haircut- recommended it. I was immediately more comfortable here. The vibe is talented but relaxed. Jen empathized with my train-wreck haircut, and then beyond salvaged my hair. She took the time to figure out what I wanted and really cared about giving me the right look. That coupled with skill resulted in a phenomenal haircut for me. I cannot tell you how many compliments and comments I got and still get on my hair. Then for the FIRST time in my life I started consistently visiting a salon -- it won me over after 28 years of thinking all hair salons are interchangeable. There's not any typical "salon cattiness" here and every single person here is a joy to be around. I am first time customer that was drawn in by the good reviews. The salon is modern and stylish but comfortable and friendly. I was completely at ease. Jesse cut my hair and he did a amazing job. He bought my overgrown pixie into a nice graduated bob with the perfect amount of layers. He is relaxed and laid-back in manner but he is all precision when it comes to hair.
