I had no idea this place was going to be as cool as it was, on the inside. The usual irony with…read moreFreemasonry is that these devotees of sacred architecture and geometry meet so often in shabby anonymous buildings with plate glass windows and acoustic ceiling tiles. No such irony here, friends. This particular Masonic Temple is a glorious celebration of detail and craftsmanship. Even the fuse box is beautiful, sitting in plain sight in a glass box in the stairwell, like a lost Joseph Cornell piece. Each doorknob is emblazoned with symbolism in bas relief. The ceiling is expansive, with groined arches recalling classic cathedrals. The original elevator is working, although I think most Americans don't know how to use old-style elevators anymore. The staircase is wide, and recalls the "I don't give a damn" set from Gone With the Wind. The real treasure is the 3rd floor theater. A round, domed room with a curving balcony, painted in dusky pink, chalk blue, and gilt. The acoustics are great, considering the age of the building. The star of the theater is the gorgeous backdrops. So ridiculously gorgeous, they risk upstaging whomever's performing. I've heard folklore (unsubstantiated, but believable) that these backdrops, themselves, are worth millions of dollars on today's market. Layer upon layer of hand-cut, hand-painted detail, that catches the light in amazing, dramatic ways. If you've ever been to the cyclorama in Atlanta, you might recognize a similar style, although the subject matter here isn't military stuff--it's romantic, pastoral, mystical. If you ever get a chance to go to anything at the Masonic Temple, go. Just go. Drop everything and go. Find a babysitter. Cancel your appointments. Go. Especially if you know the event will take place on the 3rd floor. You will be mindblown with awesomeness.

Our wedding pictures turned out gorgeous and everyone from out of town gushed over the scenery. Being an out of town bride, the event staff was very accommodating and always answered my many questions (and follow up questions) promptly and thoroughly. We also didn't buy the right type of sparklers for our send-off and they happened to have some on hand for our guests to use. Totally above and beyond! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they have the bride get ready in the women's restroom. The same restroom that many of my guests wished to use upon arriving at the venue. Not everyone saw me before I walked down the aisle but the wow-factor was taken away a tiny bit as many of my female friends and family members had already seen me in my dress. Also it was a bit stressful trying to calm my nerves before the wedding but having to greet people as they walked in the restroom door. I would still totally recommend the venue though, it was amazing!

I was told that renting it out on a weekday is super reasonable- only $65 an hour. You can't beat that! I love hosting large parties at my home, but I can never fit the amount of guests that I want in my tiny little home. Anyway, the venue was set up in a beautiful way- full of antique and vintage furniture items. They have restrooms, but I'm not sure if they have a kitchen. I've been told that they will set up the room however you'd like it. When I was there, they had out three very long tables and I think there were about 50 of us. They have a few parking spaces but I was able to park in the alley to the right of the building. Not sure if that's allowed. I will DEFINITELY be planning my next big event here! What a fun place!

I have been here many times-mostly for pop up craft/art shows, once for a 20's themed birthday party and most importantly, for my own wedding rehearsal dinner. Renting the space for the rehearsal dinner was easy and the owners were super helpful and accommodating. Their contract is very clear and their prices are very, very reasonable! We had 50 people total for the event and when we arrived the night of the party, they had the space set up for us with their dining tables and lovely chairs arranged as well as a serving station and bar area. Their furniture is what makes this place so incredible really-they have absolutely beautiful mismatched furniture, vintage and rustic looking. This is the type of space that you see all over Pinterest. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a small event venue for a wedding or birthday party. It was the perfect setting for our woodsy, romantic ceremony. The tree-lined path was my favorite spot on the entire property! We had our ceremony outside with a beautiful view of the mountains, which was absolute perfection. Our reception was held in the big wooden hall that was set up so beautifully. Our guests absolutely loved this venue! We received so many compliments saying it was one of the best wedding venues they've been to. I am so thankful for Arik, the venue manager, who was extremely accommodating and so kind to us, our familiars and all of our vendors. The staff at Yesterday Spaces are professional and helpful. They would only offer to reschedule. We were obviously disappointed but managed to whip up a truly incredible wedding locally in Raleigh instead. We decided we wanted to have a small vow renewal next year at Homewood so we could have the ceremony we imagined while also keeping our money in the Asheville community with our vendors. We asked if they would reschedule our date and give us a partial refund as the scope of the event would be significantly reduced. They again refused, again, citing the clause in the contract. We made a completely reasonable request - requesting that we be refunded the difference between what we booked initially and what the new event would have cost and they refused it. The entire situation left a really bad taste in our mouths and now we want nothing to do with these people. They showed themselves to be cold, cynical business people. They can throw a wedding in an empty room next year for all we care.

Today we toured this venue for a potential Winter wedding. We overall had a less than pleasant…read moreexperience. Here are our pros and cons. I'll start with the cons: Cons: -Julie showed us around the property today. She knew our wedding date (1/16/21) and that we wanted an outside ceremony because I am hoping for snow. There were multiple times that she said "oh, I won't show you that because you're having a winter wedding and you won't be outside" -WOAH! Please PLEASE show us outside because we expressed our specific desire to have it OUTSIDE!! -The bridal "suite" was a complete joke. First off, you are overwhelmed by the smell of mold when entering. It is not actually a "suite" at all, but rather a dark room with a separate cramped bathroom to get ready in. No bridal dress would even fit in that teeny tiny room. -During our tour of the property, Julie interrupted a bridal party who was actively engaged in their rehearsal. She made two elderly women get up from their chairs so that we could sit down at a table in the ballroom and look at some photos of the property while Julie disappeared into an office for twenty minutes while she "ran numbers" for us. We found this to be extremely unprofessional. We should not have been interrupting another family's special moment and she should have taken us back into a private office to speak. While she left us alone for what felt like a century, we kept asking eachother if we thought we should just escape while we could. Yikes. -The ballroom is beautiful but the venue is TINY! If it were up to Julie (who, remember, doesn't think you should have a ceremony outside in the winter!) both the ceremony and the reception would take place in the same small room. Nooooo thanks. -The linens are not included. (....what??) -The "decor" and plates that are included are super bland and almost purposely boring. There is only one set of dishes to choose from m. PROs: -During Julie's 20 minute absence, she created and printed out an estimate of cost that broke down all our expected costs. She didn't want to go over it with us, she just handed it over and said "it was nice meeting you both!" Soooo yeah. We will be getting married at The Farm in Candler. They've got it so much more together there and everything is included. Update: We have received several badgering emails from Homewood basically asking "have you picked us yet? Do you have any more questions? Hellooo??" When none of the either venues we toured behaved this way. Just leave us be!
