They refused to refund our wedding after Hurricane Helene forced them to cancel the date we had already paid in full for, citing a clause in the contract which allows them to wriggle out of giving you back any money you give to them. They would only offer to reschedule. We were obviously disappointed but managed to whip up a truly incredible wedding locally in Raleigh instead. We decided we wanted to have a small vow renewal next year at Homewood so we could have the ceremony we imagined while also keeping our money in the Asheville community with our vendors. We asked if they would reschedule our date and give us a partial refund as the scope of the event would be significantly reduced. They again refused, again, citing the clause in the contract. We made a completely reasonable request - requesting that we be refunded the difference between what we booked initially and what the new event would have cost and they refused it. The entire situation left a really bad taste in our mouths and now we want nothing to do with these people. They showed themselves to be cold, cynical business people. They can throw a wedding in an empty room next year for all we care. read more

My daughter drove from Nashville Tennessee. No one is answering the phone. No one is answering the door. No one is answering emails. If this is the customer service given to a potential customer, I would hate to see what an actual customer gets. I will probably probably not have my daughters wedding here. Today we toured this venue for a potential Winter wedding. We overall had a less than pleasant experience. Here are our pros and cons. I'll start with the cons: Cons: -Julie showed us around the property today. She knew our wedding date (1/16/21) and that we wanted an outside ceremony because I am hoping for snow. There were multiple times that she said "oh, I won't show you that because you're having a winter wedding and you won't be outside" -WOAH! Please PLEASE show us outside because we expressed our specific desire to have it OUTSIDE!! -The bridal "suite" was a complete joke. First off, you are overwhelmed by the smell of mold when entering. It is not actually a "suite" at all, but rather a dark room with a separate cramped bathroom to get ready in. No bridal dress would even fit in that teeny tiny room. -During our tour of the property, Julie interrupted a bridal party who was actively engaged in their rehearsal. She made two elderly women get up from their chairs so that we could sit down at a table in the ballroom and look at some photos of the property while Julie disappeared into an office for twenty minutes while she "ran numbers" for us. We found this to be extremely unprofessional. We should not have been interrupting another family's special moment and she should have taken us back into a private office to speak. While she left us alone for what felt like a century, we kept asking eachother if we thought we should just escape while we could. Yikes. -The ballroom is beautiful but the venue is TINY! If it were up to Julie (who, remember, doesn't think you should have a ceremony outside in the winter!) both the ceremony and the reception would take place in the same small room. Nooooo thanks. -The linens are not included. (....what??) -The "decor" and plates that are included are super bland and almost purposely boring. There is only one set of dishes to choose from m. PROs: -During Julie's 20 minute absence, she created and printed out an estimate of cost that broke down all our expected costs. She didn't want to go over it with us, she just handed it over and said "it was nice meeting you both!" Soooo yeah. We will be getting married at The Farm in Candler. They've got it so much more together there and everything is included. Update: We have received several badgering emails from Homewood basically asking "have you picked us yet? Do you have any more questions? Hellooo??" When none of the either venues we toured behaved this way. Just leave us be! read more

Homewood was my dream wedding reception venue! My now husband and I grew up in Asheville, rare born and raised Asheville natives. Although Homewood has amazing ceremony sites, we decided to get married in a chapel off site that has sentimental value. Nikki was so patient, answered questions in a timely manner, let us come see the venue several times for planning purposes, and was a reassuring presence throughout our reception. She was usually within sight, but never in the way or asking questions. We really didn't need many decorations because we opted for the candle light package! SO WORTH IT. We did centerpieces and signs ourselves (welcome, departing, schedule, bar menu, gift, favor), used Homewood's tablecloth rental service, and then let the venue speak for itself! I've seen a ton of pictures where people used lots of flowers, and while it was still beautiful, you don't NEED it. I was very happy with our candlelit evening. We had about 130-140 people. While it was full, it never felt crowded or cramped! We opted for the outdoor package, but unfortunately a hurricane came through over Memorial Day (2018), so we didn't get to use it (not sure if we will be refunded for not being able to use the outdoor package we paid for). Keep in mind you do have to use Asheville Beverage for alcohol, and have to use one of Homewood's six approved caterers. We opted for Caroline Allured Catering, and it was so good!! Everyone commented on the food, and she was affordable with great quality. Homewood stored our gifts until parents picked up the next day (there wasn't an event the day after ours), and allowed guests who drank to leave their cars overnight if they needed. Homewood does offer different prices for weekdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so if you are on a tighter package I would suggest asking about an alternate day to Saturday. Even Saturdays are priced affordable though! We can't recommend Homewood enough! The Schills read more

As far as wedding venues go, this may be one of the best choices in the entire 828 area. Homewood has this incredible sort of castle/grand hall vibe, with gorgeous stone work, vaulted ceilings, and dark vintage wood accents throughout the interior. There's a splendid courtyard on the side perfect for a wedding ceremony, and ample space within to fit a wedding party of anywhere from 80 to 120 guests I'd guess. It's charming. Gorgeous. Perfect for photos. Furthermore, its location is incredible, just a 15 minute WALK from downtown, while still maintaining a good amount of privacy. Plus, THERE'S PARKING! This may be one of the most bang for your buck wedding venues anywhere in WNC. read more

I went to a wedding at Homewood last Sunday. I am from South FL, so I had no idea what to expect of Homewood, or Asheville in general. I am so happy to report that I am in love! Homewood is a gorgeous old looking castle that has been setup as a venue for events. They have a GORGEOUS area called the glenn to be married in. It is so lush and serene. Such a stunning spot. It was raining when my girlfriend got married there, but being set with umbrellas I had no issue listening to the rain fall as my friends got married in such a perfect spot. The reception was inside and perfectly laid out. There was a nice, spacious room where the bar was setup, which was only a short hallway that connected you to the ballroom. Wood detailing that felt so warm, a beautiful fireplace, and a perfect fit of a chandelier made you feel right at home. I loved Homewood and would recommend location to anyone looking for a charming and unique venue. read more

Homewood is a stunning venue. But beware if you are a couple who really cares about details and sentiments. The venue requires you to use their in-house coordinator, beverage service and select list of caterers. The price of their services is not worth it. We completely regret having our wedding there. So many things were missed the biggest being that we chose to marry there so we could have a winter wedding in front of the fireplace, well our coordinator started our ceremony after completely skipping the part where she turned on the fireplace. This was after several reminders. Totally ruined our special moment. read more

The layout of the event venue is perfect, providing a simple and elegant entrance, easy access to coat check and restrooms, a separate hallway for caterers, and a quiet bar area for conversations. Have you ever wanted to feel like you were getting married in a castle, or a fairy glen? I know I did, and I got my wish when my wife and I found Homewood. We actually went on a whim while looking at some other venues after hearing about it, but Monroe greeted us warmly even without advance notice, and gave us a tour. We loved it! Even in the winter, when we first visited, it was lovely. We debated over several venues, but we kept coming back to Homewood, and ultimately decided it was the place for us! Lee-Ann helped us with the details of our reservation, and she was absolutely fantastic. We met with her several times and each time we could feel the wedding coming together more and more. And the day of was absolutely magical. It looked like it might rain, so Lee-Ann had contingencies just in case, but luckily, the clouds literally parted right before the ceremony began and the sun peeked through the trees of the glen. Granted, Lee-Ann hadn't made that happen (or else she's really amazing), but her planning and help making sure our day would be fantastic regardless of the weather made a huge difference! read more

Homewood was the absolutely PERFECT venue for us! First of all, it is absolutely gorgeous. The castle exterior is stunning, and the interior is elegant, warm, and cozy. All my guests were blown away and they all thought I spent tens of thousands of dollars for the venue when actually it was VERY affordable. The customer service was out of this world in so many ways. Lee-Ann, the manager and on-site coordinator, indulged my MANY questions over the months of planning, always incredibly cheerful and SO knowledgeable and helpful. My daughter just had her wedding at Homewood. She and her husband live out of town so I was the local contact person and organizer for her event. She selected The Homewood as her venue and I had the pleasure of working with Nikki. We used her for the day-of coordinator, but she was much more involved than just the day-of the wedding. She contacted all the vendors, kept my daughter and I in the loop and made sure that everything was smooth the night of the wedding. The venue is perfect for either an indoor or out of doors wedding or just for a reception. The building is beautiful, location is perfect with plenty of off street parking, and the staff couldn't be more accommodating, not to mention how reasonable the pricing is. My wife and I had our wedding here this October. We did an outdoor ceremony with an indoor cocktail hour and reception with about 115 people. The candle light package was perfect and the whole venue had such and intimate feeling. I got married at Homewood on 10/26/13. It was the first and only venue we looked at, and it was so beautiful that I knew I needed to look no further! Not only was it the perfect setting for my wedding, the staff were BEYOND anything I had expected. They were so accommodating, and any questions I had as a stressed out bride, they would answer me quickly through email or phone and always put my mind at ease! The night of the wedding, I feel they went above and beyond the call of duty! They made sure everything went smoothly and there was always a staff member nearby if you needed them. They aren't wedding directors or wedding planners, but it would NOT have gone so great without them! Julie, Lee-Ann, and Monroe were just awesome people to work with.
