Derek was an amazing guide. Another couple was supposed to be with the group and ended up rescheduling, so I basically got a personal tour! Derek was very knowledgeable of the city. He named, if not all, most of the buildings we passed along the way. My favorite places were all the places that we got to stop at to enjoy. We were lucky enough to be in a smaller van while others were in large busses, so our experience was more personalized. Dwayne knocked our socks off. He crams so much knowledge into the tour, well above and beyond the actual stops. His passion for the city and knowledge of architecture and history were impressive. He also knew his way round the current blockages/construction and was able to avoid politics while discussing the current construction which takes mad skills. He thoroughly answered any random questions we threw at him and had deep knowledge of subjects like the Red Cross and Clara Barton, I've volunteered with them for years and didn't know his fun facts. Dwayne was born for this role and may be the best tour guide I've had in my life. I now question my own passions/interests. Their banter between each other and us tourists kept the party going and fun never stopped. Really appreciated the bottled water they had available too. We met at the Navy Memorial and from there we embarked on our journey to view numerous memorials including Iwo Jima, the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Capitol Building. The tour normally includes the White House and World War II Memorial, but sadly due to the fact the Great American State Fair was going on at the time, we were unable to make those stops. As an added bonus, we got the see the National Archives Museum lit up at night as well! It was a great time, but a late night, and it was difficult to find an Uber afterwards, so I recommend planning accordingly.

The walk lasts for 3.5 hours so I highly recommend sturdy shoes and perhaps a bottle of water. Tim (the guide) provides a snack along the way and hits up rest stops at appropriate times. It is a somewhat brisk walk at times but to cover everything we saw in the time period it was perfect and totally do-able! Even if you have lived in DC or the surrounding areas all your life, if you have not taken this tour, I highly recommend that you do!

The tour we did lasted 4hrs and we covered White House, Washington memorial, WWII war memorial, Vietnam memorial, London Memorial, and ended at Korean war memorial. Tim was informative, interactive, personable, and all those other good words for a tour guide. He made sure to meet everyone and even gave out snacks when our tummies started to growl. The tour i took started at 10am so it went through lunch meaning you need to eat a late breakfast or bring some sustenance along in case. Highly suggest some sunscreen and good walking shoes. The starting location is a bit tricky to find due to Pennsylvania avenue doing jumping locations so be sure to check your map before you go so you don't get lost before it even starts! This is a free walking tour yes but as for all such things, tips I'm sure are welcome. I happily gave $30 at the end and actually would have given more if I could have found a Chase ATM in DC.
