Met a friend here for dinner last night. Decent food but not worth a trip out of the way. The…read moreservice is also terrible, as a friend warned me before I went. The menu is limited and you don't know what it will be until you arrive. You can only make reservations through text or email, not phone. Cash only ::eye roll:: I got the puy lentil shepherd pie, with side salad, as did my friend. The portion size for £8 was decent but we both agreed it was just fine- nothing spectacular. Like someone else cited in a review, home cooking. I've had MUCH better vegan/veg food elsewhere. It's a very tight space and was much too warm for all the bodies packed in the space. Ventilation was seriously needed.

The interior is cosy and shabbily chic, with fairy lights, a piano, mismatched furniture, candles and flowers on each table and a fire in the winter. The small upstairs room is used for various classes and community events, or can be hired for birthdays etc. The noticeboard by the loo is crammed full of flyers for every goodly boho activity group/class you can think of. There's a choice from at least two different items for each course, and at about a tenner for 3 courses I have absolutely no complaints about the food. It is plentiful, simple, wholesome and yummy. Last time I went I had a very savoury mushroom and chestnut stroganoff with rice and several salads, and my friend had a comforting cheese and spinach souffle. The time before I think I had lentil shepherd's pie. It's BYO with no corkage charge, and there is a shop in Vauxhall station and a supermarket across the road from the station should you arrive empty handed. This is a lovely chilled place to enjoy a meal out, and anyone you take here will think that you are cool. If they don't, you probably shouldn't be friends/go out with them any more because they have no soul.

He had looked up restaurants that served a full English breakfast, and Kennington Lane Cafe was highly regarded, and it happened to be a few minutes away from our B&B. We loved our breakfast so much that we went back a second day. What I liked about the menu was that is was easy to create exactly what you wanted. You could order a set breakfast (and easily add on extra sides), or you could pick and choose what you wanted, and make the breakfast as small or as large as needed to match your appetite. The breakfast I created had a small steak, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and bubble and squeak. Delicious! I don't have an itemized bill of exactly what we ordered and the price of each item, but the totals on my credit card bill are £20.89 the first day and £20.50 the second day, and each bill included breakfast and coffee for two. Essentially, you can get a full breakfast for £10 -- a fantastic deal. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Poor and hungry?]

Their signature offering is the "Persepolis Feasting Menu," which came with multiple courses to share. There's no set menu and the dishes offered change by the day, so there's always an element of surprise! We were started with ramekins of a sweet potato soup with yogurt, but my favorite course was the meze platter, which came with pasta salad, falafels, sweet potato fritters, pickles, a cottage cheese dip, tahini, and hummus with cheese puffs sticking out! The mezes were served with pita bread slices, which were perfect for eating with the dips. The next three dishes were amazing as well: crispy halloumi with sesame and honey; fattet, or pita chips with spinach, chickpeas, and tahini; and a creative dish of chips, melted cheese, cauliflower, mushrooms, tomato, and onion, all seasoned with a yellow spice mixture. Finally, the last two dishes were pakora, or battered mixed vegetables (onion, cauliflower, pickles) served with saffron and dill aiolis on the side; and a final platter of rice, cucumber/onion/tomato salad, a red kidney bean stew, and a potato stew. While decent, the fried vegetables were on the greasy side, and the stews had an overly sweet flavor, and I was more impressed with the earlier courses. Finally came a colorful platter of dessert, which included ice cream topped with rose syrup; two different types of baklava; a cream-filled cake roll; jalebis; Turkish delight; cookie sandwiches; dates; and sliced strawberries/oranges. Everything we had here was flavorful, delicious, creative, and beautifully-presented, and enjoying the Middle Eastern hospitality was a great experience!

But even this impatient native New Yorker is more then happy to deal. The avo smoothie is incredibly rich and whilst I thought the rose taste was a bit overpowering at this visit (my husband said it tasted like soap haha), I overall still loved it. My husband's date smoothie on the other hand was sadly underwhelming. My spiced broccoli soup was thick and creamy and full of flavour. I was so stuffed I regretted ordering the fried plaintains and eggs on bread as my main so my husband ended up eating it haha. But as I've ordered this before, I know how great it is. And he agreed, as it's slightly spicy and full of flavour. His main dish sadly again was bland: similar to a stir fry of veg and bread. He did enjoy the sahlep for takeaway though.

My husband and I had the privilege of booking afternoon tea during our recent visit to London. The total cost was approximately $175 USD and served one pot of tea with the flavor of your choice along with delicate sized sandwiches and several desserts on a tiered platter. Alejandro, our server, was not only hospitable but knowledgeable with the tea offerings. Service was also efficient and the presentation was refined. That, along with the stunning view, made our experience memorable. The only part that STAINED my delight was being seated next to 3 overly pretentious young women who, while dressed well & presented the proper image, did not possess the etiquette they "TRIED" to present. It was more obnoxious than sophisticated. To give you a better visual - think 'ladies who lunch' but with the tone that matched women who discussed men like they were at a bar rather than an upscale tea room. I found their conversation inappropriate, immature and rude. They spoke loudly enough for perhaps a third of the room to hear. Other than that, I would recommend The Library for all that it offers - just cross your fingers you aren't seated too closely to a trio of young 20-somethings who think they have the male population all figured out like they've watched and taken notes of every episode of 'Sex and the City'.

The tea itself was pretty good with a big assortment of sandwiches and desserts (and a cake shaped like Big Ben!) the tea selection comes in little glass jars you can smell, and both the County Hall mix and earl grey tasted yummy. Set in an old Courthouse dating back to 1869 (hence the name), the building still retains all it's original features and is apparently home to a few convict ghosts still roaming the alls. The Kray Twins were even on trial here once so I won't be going here on a dark night. Yet surprisingly Jamyang has a relaxing air of calm about it and is a little southern haven. Besides the cafe the centre also offers a varied programme of events, from meditation classes to Tai Chi, Yoga and a series of talks on Buddhism, which are worth checking out. The cafe, although housed in the centre is a separate entity and Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike are welcome. They serve wholesome and completely scrumptious vegetarian food daily, using fresh, often locally sourced and in-season produce. Fare such as Leek and Potato Pie, Blood Orange and Leaf Salad and Lavender cake is currently to be found on the menu. The fresh, homemade bread is out of this world and couldn't be further from the quick-rise stuff we are all subject to in the supermarket these days. A wonderful garden area to the side, studded with flowers and plants, complements their farmhouse style food. Real wholesome food, made by really wholesome people. What an absolute find.
