I do not work in the mental health field, but the volume of anti-Obama items in this storefront is at a psychotic level. I googled the place when I got back to my hotel and found some articles from 2012 where the owner defended his use of an edited image of Obama as a witch doctor. Not sure if it was there in 2012, but now, among countless other hateful display pieces, there is actually a photo listing of past Presidents of the US in their military uniforms and when it gets to our current President, Obama is photoshopped to be wearing a turban. This one stuck out to me as it should be offensive to anyone with a functional brain. My wife and I continued for several more minutes to view display after display blaming our current president for every "crisis" that the owner feels we are experiencing in the US. I have never seen a business spew such hate and stupidity. I still hold out a little hope for the town of Spring Lake that this place does not survive on a sustainable volume of business from its residents or visitors. Hopefully the owner is independently wealthy and just props this place up as his personal insane soapbox. I worry about the mental state of someone who puts up such a display. read more

Ive spent every summer in Spring Lake since I can remember. I have so many fond memories here. The only thing I dislike about the town is that Skuby & Co continues to stay in business. This place is a STAIN on the town of Spring Lake. The blatant racism and sexism constantly plastered ALL over the walls and display makes me sick. I walked down 3rd ave with my grandma last summer, and when she saw the displays on the wall she broke down in tears. Posting provocative pictures of Hillary Clinton being sexually assaulted and having photos of Obama in a turban and insinuating he was behind 9/11 really shows who Skuby really is. I strongly urge everyone to NEVER STEP FOOT IN HERE. Plus, the one time I tried to buy a shirt here (prior to my realization of the racism) the owner was an asshole to me for no reason. If I could give a place 0 stars, I would. I hope to see them close ASAP. read more

I've never left a review on Yelp but was so appalled by the unabashed hatred, racism, sexism, xenophobia and homophobia on full display in this store that I couldn't possibly not say something. It made me sick to my stomach. What a disgrace. Seeing this 1 week after what happened in Charlottesville and the tepid and irresponsible responses by our so called president - for whom a shrine has been erected in this store - was truly disgusting. I am embarrassed for the town of Spring Lake. I hope people realize there is a beautiful men's shop just across the street called Village Tweed if they would prefer NOT to spend their hard earned American dollars at a store owned by someone who so obviously clings to ideals that are so decidedly un-American. I agree that Bill Skuby is a creep. He was a sales rep for Country Britches in the 80s and sold to my store. One of the first insults he launched was that you can do everything else right, but if the person working in the store has no credibility, you're done. How incredibly insulting. And how ironic now that he works in his own store, and spews stupid, hateful rhetoric.Talk about no credibility. He doesn't even deserve to be in business. The clothing he sold for Country Britches was so badly made that the threads from the jacket linings penetrated through the outer fabric so it looked like the jackets were growing hair. The owner is a flaming racist a-hole. The last time we were there, he had unbelievably insulting, bordering on criminal, displays of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama posted throughout the store. We haven't been back to Spring Lake for several years, and this store is one of the reasons. I'm sure by now he probably has a cardboard cut-out of our misogynistic, racist, unqualified "president" holding an American flag. Do yourselves a favor, and either avoid the store altogether or if you must shop there, try things on, note the manufacturer, and buy it online for much less than he charges. (We did that, too... saved a fortune!) How the City Council allows this place to stay open is beyond me. read more

When I was there with my husband, on the front counter he proudly displayed a charicature puppet of President Obama with a book behind it titled with foul language that this review won't let me post. We r all entitled to our political views, but this tea party racist is a real moron thinking his business is the place to air his opinions. Where is the respect? I saw the window of the Skuby store this morning and was horrified. Aside from anything else, what lessons would children learn if they saw the rantings of the owner, a Mr. BIll Skuby. How to disrespect the President would probably be the first lesson. Aside from that, and after further investigation of such a hater, it seems that the owner feels that as long as he has a biracial grandchild, he could not be considered a racist. What will he do if that child decides one day that he is? My mother lives in Spring Lake and I visit regularly. I am a reasonable, open minded person but I found this store and it's racist literature posted all over the place disgusting. My kids ,who are adults would come by with their friends to look at the store window as an example of how intolerant and mean spirited people can be . And The fact that a store like this can thrive in Spring Lake only put a stain of intolerance and racism on the town itself. We have visited Spring Lake several times and every time, we make a trip to this store. The owner's political tastes are his own and he is entitled to them. I feel so dirty. :-( It was a sidewalk sale, the linen shirts were heavily discounted and before I knew it, I was at the register part way through my purchase before I had completely processed the racist filth around me.
