I would pass. I went because reviews were positive. Others said they believe there are new owners, that may make sense. I was disappointed. First the fountain drink machine was broke, paid for that but got a can of Diet Coke. No big deal but should have received a refund? Ordered a Rubin sandwich and it was the worst I ever had. Super cheap bread, no sauce, just plain bread. It's pretty hard to mess up a Rubin but they succeeded. I swear my coworkers roast beef sandwich was on winder bread. I wanted to like this place but the food was just poor. I was surprised because it was fairly busy with most ordering hot dogs. Guess that was my mistake. Do not order sandwiches here. Ordered 2 (overpriced) turkey sandwiches and when we got home there was no lettuce, tomato, mayo, nothing. The woman who took our order said he'd put everything on it unless we asked that he didn't. The hot dogs might be good but do not come here for anything else. read more

Fantastic! Parking is easy and staff were super nice and helpful. The hot dogs were great but honestly the fries were my favorite part (glad we ordered the large order). Extremely crispy and seasoned well. Food came out hot and ready in the blink of an eye. Def a place to grab a hot dog/fries for a quick stop if you're craving it! I ordered the chili dog and the chili was super classic. I would've smothered it in cheese and diced onions but we had to do some shopping after and I didn't want to subject any public toilets to me post-cheese. read more

People talk about this place like it's a gem. I was excited to go, especially when I walked in the door and realized that it had the "hole in the wall" and "been here forever" feel. Usually, those grimey old places have the best food! But Skoogies was a huge disappointment. The chile cheese dog tasted like I heated it up in my own microwave at home. Experienced an extremely rude cashier today. She was clearly in a bad mood, dismissive and not helpful when myself and other customers asked where items were, on my first visit. If you want repeat customers, you need employees that understand customer service. What a gem. We've driven by for I don't know how many years... Today I had a craving for a chili cheese dog, did a yelp search and since it was on the way to our destination we stopped in. BEWARE of SCAMS! I went into skoogies today as recommended by a friend. I placed my order and paid to move out of the way as they were busy. I thought the amount was a little high for what I ordered. I asked the cashier if I had ordered the wrong thing as my total was almost five dollars more than what it should be. She then told me that the prices that were displayed were wrong and she had the real prices written down under the counter. That is 100% illegal. After explaining it multiple times , she did eventually give me a refund. Customers double check your receipts! If you are the Owner you should double check your employees! read more

My co-worker brought in this amazing-looking egg salad sandwich for lunch and when I asked where it came from she said, "Skoogie's". I needed that sandwich, and headed there immediately after work, as they are only open 11-4. From the outside you get a beachside shake shack kinda vibe, and inside is all Chicago'ed out. I grew up watching WGN from Chicago, so I know the Empire Carpet phone number LOL There are a few tables as you enter and counter seating looking out the front window. The TV was loud as hell, with 2 old guys eating and watching it. Seems legit. The counter guy and the girl making the sandwiches were friendly and welcoming. I told them it was my first time and the guy pointed at the menu taped to the counter. I told him about the joyous egg salad and think he must have remembered the one he sold earlier because he smiled. I also ordered a Homewrecker with chili and onions, a dog with chili, cheese, and onions, and then pointed at the Chicago dog picture and said, "And one just like the picture! And a corndog." Before I could finish my Minute Maid lemonade, the nice girl handed me my bag with a smile. I can already tell I'll be back! Got the food home and bit into my pillowy, creamy egg salad sandwich. Bread so soft, flavor so mild, this is comfort food for sure. The corndog was a corndog. I think it was all-beef. You can't mess up a corndog. Later, my Chicago dog beckoned, and it was amazing! The pickle is mild, the sport peppers zingy, the tomato balancing it all out. Oh man, I need another one. Hubby's dogs were met with rave reviews, the sausage one firm and meaty and the beef dog just perfect. Chili was great, just the right amount of onion. Wow., what a hidden gem in MT-Pleasant! Tucked away behind Dunkin is this legendary Chicago style hot dog shop that not only has some of the best tasting dogs around the Charleston area. And some amazing friendly knowledgeable workers that some have been working here for over twenty years! This joint is very casual with some vintage Americana charm on the outside and the interior too. You can pretty much order your hotdog whichever way you tell them to make and with your choice of the small or larger size dogs....Side note: there is other food options on this simple menu and the hours are not friendly for you late night types but good for lunch and early afternoon only. Overall. It's my new goto fix for a quick yummy afternoon dog...kinda reminded me of some of the Midwest hole in the wall shops in Illinois/Indiana:) read more

Stopped by for a little lunch. Had a small hot dog with chili onions and slaw. Chili was really nice but I think the slaw was a little to chunky for me. Next time I am getting just chili and onions. Bun was delicious with the poppy seeds on it. My husband had the egg salad sandwich and really enjoyed it. We shared the French fries because it's a huge amount. They were fantastic, perfectly seasoned and nice and small. read more

In my 20s, skoogies was in a strip mall and we'd stop to get a hotdog and beer on the way home from the beach. In my 30s, I brought my husband here and later Skoogies closed and eventually reopened in an old McDonald's restaurant. It used to take the whole building. Now in my 50s I ventured back to Skoogies and brought my mom, who has never been. Skoogies still has its divey vibe and instead of taking the whole building, it's in the very back where I would imagine the McDonald's kitchen would have been. Everything has a sticky, greasy feel, but that's Skoogies. I ordered a classic Chicago dog and a coke (they no longer sell beer), and my mom got a chili dog and coke. We split some fries. Everything tasted great. Not exactly what I remembered but it hit the spot. I'm pretty sure there is a different owner but I'm not certain. The vibe is different but it's still Skoogies. read more

I love Skoogies ! The hotdogs are Vienna brand, used in Chicago. The chili dog is wonderful and the French fries beat out McDonald's fries. They're really that good. I'd go there just for the French fries. But those dogs are impossible to pass up. Worth 6 stars in my world. read more

Skoogie's is a humble little place that does its best to bring the Windy City to South Carolina and pretty much succeed at bringing a taste of Chicago to this southern east coast state. Well, at least in terms of their hot dogs (which is what I had at my visit here. Again, this place is definitely a no-frills type place, but there is nothing really fancy about a hot dog. I also think it bears mentioning that most of my favorite foods are nothing fancy and I have a feeling most people would share this opinion. Skoogie's offers a nice selection of hot dogs. Skoogies has the best hot dogs in Mount Pleasant! Even though their specialty is the Chicago dog, I always order a mustard, chili, slaw and onion dog and they are perfection! The buns are always soft and fresh (love the poppy seed buns!) and the chili is delicious! We love the local feel of the restaurant- nothing like a local, no frills place for the best hot dogs! Real Vienna Beef dog and bun... But no neon relish (regular relish instead) and no sport peppers. Chili Cheese Dogs were interesting. Not the shredded cheddar I was expecting. Just happened to stumble upon this place. Don't spend a ton of time in the area, and was actually using the drive way to turn around when I saw the signage for Chicago style hot dogs, and as an original mid-westerner I couldn't not stop. Loved the eclectic vibe and unique/ funky decor. Was around 2/3pm and they were busier than I had initially thought. Took about 25 minutes from getting in line to receiving food. Due to time concern, I opted for chips vs fries. The dog was delicious, all beef and very juicy. Cole slaw was crunchy and well flavored. Drinks were ice cold. We love Skoogies! It's such a regular to our days that I hadn't remembered to review it!!!!! The actual dog and bun are QUALITY! I veered from the norm today and got the chicken salad. It's good. But the dogs are better! Big ole basket of fries too. Saturdays are a ZOO but they crank it out pretty quick so the wait isn't bad. I will say that if you belly up to the bar the counter tops are so well worn they are sticky... not dirty, just shellacked and the humidity got to them!!! For some strange reason, I feel like almost every hot dog spot in the Lowcountry is located in Mt P. I'm pretty sure I've been to all of them and while some I like better than others, I hadn't been to Skoogies yet. I live down the street and have driven past a million times, but always forget it's tucked in there behind Dunkin's. I knew before I came that they were all about the Chicago Dog, which isn't exactly my forte. I don't mind toppings on a dog, but any self-respecting Chicagoan piles theirs high with 3/4 of a house salad and for me it's too much. When I walked in, I expected to feel the peer pressure to get one while standing there at the counter in front of Chitown traditionalists. Instead, I felt more of an order-whatever-the-hell-you-want vibe and a variety of options on the menu. I went for a couple regular franks with ketchup, mustard, and cheese sauce... feeling a little traditional myself, I asked him to add pickle too. First off, the pickle was not overbearing as it was the normal length of a spear but only half the width... it was a nice touch and I'd definitely order it again. Next up, the dogs themselves were great. Juicy all beef hot dogs with a nice snap to them as well. The fries were shoestring and came in a giant portion which was more than enough for two. They're only open til 4pm so it's a great lunch or insanely early dinner spot. I was surprised to see they also have deli sandwiches as well and I'd love to try some of the other specialties like the Italian Beef. Who know's maybe I'll even give the real Chicago Dog another go around. read more

My grandfather really talked this place up, and him being from Chicago, he knows his Chicago dogs. When we got there I only ordered one dog with a side of fries, and before I even got halfway through my hot dog, I knew I was going to get another. They had friendly staff and they were quick too. I didn't even finish getting my card back in my wallet before they handed me my second dog. I can't recommend this place enough. We visited this past weekend because I've heard so much about their hotdogs and I really have been craving a Chicago style hotdog. Well Skoogies did not disappoint with their Chicago dog on a poppy seed bun, topped with green pickle relish, mustard, tomato slices, sport peppers, and a pickle spear. It was so good; and so was their chili dog, a plain hotdog topped with chili. We also each got a side of fries; which were huge sides that we could have split one order.
