You really can't go wrong with Skip's hot dogs. My group has been wanting to go to Skip's for months! It has been almost two years since I was there, but others in my group go often as it's close to their home. It's about 45 minutes from the house for me, but we set out in afternoon Atlanta traffic and made it there in about 55 minutes. It was worth the drive. We love a classic Chicago dog! The onion rings were good too, just served warm. I thought they were making them fresh since the front counter girl yelled back that she needed three orders of onion rings. The service was ok...just like any other fast food restaurant these days. We really don't expect great service from the front counter workers anymore and Skip's was no different. (I will rave on my reviews when I do get great customer service.) We had a group of seven so we had to eat outside as the biggest table inside only seats four and we didn't want to sit separately. It was a cool evening, but was about the same temperature inside the restaurant. All in all, we will be back one day when we feel like taking a drive. read more

I can't speak for the in restaurant experience as we booked them for catering. This was hands down one of the best catering bookings we've had. The whole experience was top tier especially the customer service. They had everything organized and ready to go. The food was equally hot from the first to last guest. The line for food moved so smooth and efficient. But what I am here to talk about is their Cole slaw. That coleslaw is heavenly. I could really eat a full bowl alone. It is homemade and you can tell. I couldn't stop raving with the gentlemen who made it while I got my second round. The burgers were juicy and seasoned. French fries freshly made and perfectly cooked. Solid fancy hotdog place. I was surprised they also had hamburgers too. I had the jumbo chili dog with slaw. I was surprised the chili was mostly beans, my preference would have been all meat or little beans, but nonetheless it was tasty! The slaw was also good. My husband had a bratwurst with sauerkraut, he said it was just okay but he did like the fries. We wanted to taste another so we each had a bite of the polish sausage too and that was good/interesting. Beware this is not your cheap hotdog place. We spent $30 on two combos and one extra hotdog. The dogs were wrapped loosely in aluminum foil and then placed vertically into the brown paper bag. When we got home, all of the toppings had slide down to the bottom half of the hotdog. Had they been placed horizontally in the bag, the toppings probably would've stayed in place. Today the buns seemed stale. On Tuesday, June 10, I was pleased with my initial visit to Skips drive through servce where the cashier provided outstanding service. However, my second visit today was disappointing. I ordered a polish well done, chili, and slaw, and a hotdog combo with cheese, slaw, and grilled onions for my husband. The staff member, Chris, encountered difficulties in getting our order correct despite multiple attempts. While the onion rings and peanut butter shake were enjoyable, the experience was compromised by mistakes. When I realized i didn't get my soda with the combo, I contacted the store manager, Julie. She alleged that I was distracted and had left the cup at the counter. I disputed her claim and requested the option to collect the drink tomorrow, but Julie's response was unprofessional and inflexible. Considering the traffic and amount spent, her stance seemed unjustified. She suggested that I turn around and come back for the drink. 3.5 ~ I had been wanting to try Skip's for four years now. My hubby and I originally thought we might end up in Avondale Estates upon moving to GA, so it would've been convenient. We ended up not moving to that area, and I forgot about this place for a little bit. Time passed and I had tried Baby Al's a few times - which I'm a big fan of and which is much closer to me. A few months ago, my mom and I decided to order a delivery lunch from here. We got the Italian beef dipped with cheese, a tamale, onion rings, and a pizza puff to share. Everything arrived hot and fresh even with the distance. The Italian beef was good and flavorful. It was not as big as the ones I get from Baby Al's though. The pizza puff was delicious. I know it's just a microwaveable good, but I hadn't had one in forever, so it was nice for the nostalgic factor. The onion rings were perfectly breaded and cooked but had no seasoning on them. Finally, the tamale was not at all what I expected. It was very small and not really impressive at all. It's not far off from the canned kind if you've ever tried that, just a step up on freshness. Overall, it was a decent meal. They do not seem to have mild sauce as I requested some if available, but none was given. I would get the Italian beef again and pizza puff if I'm in the area, but do not recommend the onion rings or tamales. The Chicago dogs on the site look good, but once again, I usually go to Baby Al's for my Chicago food fix. I still need to try Fingerz and Rickettes one day as I've heard good things about both places as well. Having lived in Chicago for 2.5 years, so far Baby Al's is more on point with what I'm used to, but this isn't a bad spot by any means. I would go with the Chicago dogs from what I've seen or Italian beef if you're in the neighborhood. read more

The bun was actually pretty good, very good quality. The fries were seasoned well and the root beer was good. Overall it was an okay meal for lunch. If I go back I would definitely add more toppings. Being from Chicago, I've been looking for Chicago style hotdogs and good Italian beefs. Today I came across Skips and had to stop in. They have a parking lot around the restaurant and additional parking in the back. There's also free street parking. I was here around lunch time and it was kind of busy, but I was able to grab a table inside. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Chicago dog combo. The hotdog was pretty good. I wish I ordered a milkshake instead of getting a soft drink. But next time I'll try a milkshake and Italian beef. About 6 weeks ago, R wanted a Chicago dog for lunch, so he looked in Yelp and found Skip's Chicago Dogs in Avondale Estates. Guess where we went? Yep - Skip's! Skip's Chicago Dogs has a free parking lot large enough for all of its customers, plus there is a drive thru window. Customers dining onsite can sit at any of the multiple tables outside that have large umbrellas that provide shade. Customers can also site inside, where there are a lot of tables. The restaurant is generally clean, and, while we were there an employee was busy refilling the napkin dispensers, sweeping the floor and wiping off tables. This is a very popular restaurant, and the employee taking orders at the counter was very quick and efficient, and so the line of customers was constantly kept moving. After looking over the busy menu, R ordered two Chicago dogs, and I ordered two Chicago dogs and onion rings. Curious about seeing tamales on the menu, I ordered two for us to share. We sat inside at a table for two people. Within 15 minutes, our orders were called out and we picked the food up at the counter. Each of our orders came in a plastic basket lined with drip-proof paper. The Chicago dogs were hot (temperature wise) and good, with the usual mixture of flavors going on. I didn't care for the onion rings because they tasted and felt greasy. The tamales weren't wrapped with corn husks, but the masa and the meat both had good flavors. There are so many other things on the menu to try, such as burgers, Italian beef, Polish sausage, Bratwurst, Philly cheesesteaks, grilled chicken, chicken tenders and wings, to name some items.
