Before I was a client of hers, I would only get facials once every quarter or once or twice a year. Now, I get them monthly because her facials are nothing like anything I have ever gotten before. Each facial is customized after she assesses my skin and talks me through her recommendations. Today, I had a facial AND a glycolic acid peel for the first time. She asked me every few minutes how it felt from 1 to 10. She was patient as my skin reacted from an 8 to 5 to 2. I love how educated she is and how she continues to learn about skincare and the European quality products that she uses on her clients. I have also bought the skincare line from her. It is high end and a little expensive (but aren't they all?), but they last a long time. Jen Yuki Olives is an amazing esthetician. She listens. She is thorough. She is gentle, yet her massage for the face, scalp, neck, shoulders and above the chest is strong and firm. She uses European quality skincare. She gives personalized care. You glow at the end. I've been going to Shannon since April 2010 (which is before The Skin Care Studio existed). I've gotten facials at 10+ places in the bay area and I never felt compelled to return to any of them. After one facial with Shannon, I was sold. Also, I live in San Jose, yet I drag my arse the 1.5 hrs roundtrip just to get facials from Shannon. Biggest differences with Shannon vs others, she is pampering you for the full hour. Every place I've been to, the facial person leaves the room as the a mask is setting (one place the lady sat there drinking tea...). Not with Shannon. Shannon gives you an awesome shoulder/neck/scalp massage while your mask is setting. Also, Shannon knows skin. She can tell when I haven't been drinking enough water, when I started to use a stronger face wash, when I've been drinking alcohol or when I haven't been using exofliant or sunblock. Just take a look at her skin. I found out her age (which I won't disclose here) and I was seriously shocked. I thought we were closer in age... her skin just looks that good. My first time I got a facial with Shannon, I also got a massage afterwards (spa day with a friend). After the massage, as I'm leaving, Shannon runs out and puts more sunblock on my face saying that lying face down during the massage might have rubbed some off. Shannon knew I was going to walk around and shop and wanted my skin to be protected. Shannon does all the standard things great (my skin looks great, she's gentle on extractions, she explains what she's doing). She'll chat if you want to or will let you relax (or doze off like I sometimes do) in silence if you want (she knows when you want to talk or not). But my favorite part is her massage, it is the perfect pressure. This is usually where I doze off.. but I try to stay awake to enjoy it. Go see Shannon. Buy a microderm package (set of 3), use all of them, and then you'll be convinced that you need Shannon to keep your skin looking great.

Decided to text the number and I received my response in a couple of minutes. I was lucky there was a last minute appointment available for the same day. To my surprise the spa was very well put together with an ambience of peace and comfort. Then I met Sasha, my skin guru! She is approachable, listens and doesn't push you to purchase and she genuinely cares about your concerns. I came in with an open mind and asked for her expertise. I have hyperpigmentation issues and I'm always wearing heavy foundation to cover this up. Sasha introduced me to Charcoal laser facial; applies a charcoal mask all over face, avoiding eye and mouth area, then goes over with a laser. We started on a small area to see how sensitive my skin was and to get an idea of that's the route I was looking for. Well....the difference was seen immediately and my horrible brown spots started to look lighter and I was sold! I decided to purchase a package of 5 treatments. I immediately asked if she was plucking my brows and explained that I do not let other people shape my eyebrows and did not want them plucked. Instead of stopping, she insisted it would only be 'five hairs' and pressured me to let her continue. When she showed me the mirror, I was devastated. My naturally full brows had been noticeably thinned and reshaped just two weeks before my wedding. What is most upsetting is that I never consented to having my eyebrows shaped. Something that alters someone's appearance should never be done during a facial without asking first, especially this close to an important event. To top it all off, I was then handed a $600 bill. Leaving $600 poorer and in tears over my eyebrows two weeks before my wedding was absolutely not the experience I expected.
