Was really looking forward to my appointment tonight. I arrived at 5:57 for my 6pm appointment and the door was locked and there wasn't a soul to be found. Waited until 6:22pm and still no one. I asked the lady at the business next door and she said she couldn't help me. The sign on the door states that they are open until 7pm today, the Groupon states that they're open until 8pm; but the door was locked tight and no one answered the doorbell or the phone. I called 4 times, no one answered and the voicemail wasn't accepting messages. Super disappointed. Won't be returning. read more

The owner is a real genuine woman. She seems dedicated to her business and the clients at her facility. Ice known about skin Essence for over 5+ years. I have two ants who are regular clients and my mother tried this place before. It has been a success for both Aunts and no affect for my mother. Hearing such great things about them I decided to give it a try. It was a wait but hey that comes when you have good business I assumed. I had a problem with the aesthetician who seemed to rush through my facial and diamond peel. It is typically known for them to explain the procedure to you, which she didn't. She didn't inform me about any of the products she used. I mentioned to her I have sensitive skin, she implied that I'll be just fine with the procedure I was getting. Unfortunately that was not the case. After visiting my face began to really break out. I guess that procedure was not a good one for me. If the aesthetician took time to really consult with me about my skin or prior skin history maybe she would have been able to suggest a different procedure for my specific skin type. read more

I STOPPED GOING TO ALL Skin Essence locations!!! I do not associate with ANY of their locations at all and strongly discourage doing business with these snakes! They ruined my skin, didn't accept any accountability, and lied continuously. They have several YELP pages so all the bad reviews won't tally up, more snaky games. If you're truly an upstanding business then you'll have nothing to hide. I had to sue them because they infected me with follicutitus, a serious bacterial infection on the skin. In court the owner pulls up a satirical page to discredit me, yet, look at A L L these other women saying the E X A C T same thing as me. I wish I had them in court with me!!!! I was asked why I didn't go to the doctor immediately and I told the judge I wanted to give them a chance to fix the problem. I didn't want to bring down a black owned business. The owner laughed at me in court, laughed at the fact that I was being courteous by allowing her to handle it before escalating powers. No appreciation or empathy at all! It's okay, the all powerful karma will come down so HARD on these snakes, their businesses, and this shady family. If you make a mistake fix it, be kind and understanding, your customers will appreciate that. Don't coward away and blame the customer for your mistake! I sleep comfortably at night knowing I did/ do the right thing and I am not a snake. My karma and conscious are clear and all my endeavors are blessed because of that. Yesterday, I had the diamond facial done by Ms. Kathy. It wasn't painful at all, and Ms. Kathy was just the best. She was sweet as pie, and gently performed my service. Ms. Diamond, who works at the front desk, continues to be a jewel. Okay, okay, Skin Essence may not be your posh, overpriced spa that renders services on gold and diamond encrusted platters. Heck, their platters may even be plastic but if you can get your mind off of everything you expect a spa to be and more on what you come to get then your experience will be rewarding. I would venture to say that Skin Essence is for those that have had a gamut of spa experiences - of all sorts. I've been everywhere from small, authentic Korean spas to large and posh, commercial ones. I've had my skin scrubbed, wrapped, and slathered with so many concoctions that I think numb to what most may find uncomfortable. The point is, to be a patron of Skin Essence, you must be somewhat of a soldier and you must know what you want! I know when I come to Skin Essence, I'm going to get a facial because I need just a quick skin pick me up, and I'm definitely going to get a body polish even though the process is very uncomfortable. It gradually evens out your skin tone and softens those areas like your elbows and knees. I also know that I'm going to always get the medicated cream because it just works and is compatible with other face products. I'm going to get Pam's special sauce and I'm going to get the body milk. SKIN TYPE: I have sensitive skin that tends to have combination areas, and a light/medium tone that scars easily My family has been going to Pam's spa for years, and I've gone on and off. Since being in California, this year, my skin has gone through it's "transitions" and she has been the only person to consistently repair the damages. *I AM IN LOVE with this new Green Tea Organic Body Scrub that they make, and I highly recommend it! It's like having your own spa in your shower. I am not exaggerating when I say a "total state of calm" and "zen" are a result of that body scrub. The key is following the instructions that they give you, I ONLY go to Pam for my face, and (I had Cece work on my face once before); They are both great. I am not a fan of lighteners, however scarring from acne is not my favorite either. They add "boosts" to your products that are customized to your skin-issue/type and they are powerful. Watch your face so that it is even and you are targeting just the spots, or else you will look like someone that is bleaching. I have gotten micro & corrective facials as well as a full body treatment in the past. I had a 2nd degree electrical burn on my nose, from a negligent esthetician (at a spa that is now closed, in PA,) went to Pam and she saved my face; the scar is non-existent today. Wow, it is amazing of the reviews. I have been coming here a couple of years now. 80% of the time there is a long wait or I'm seen after my appointment time. And yes like others say, Pam ALWAYS ! ! ! has an excuse for the wait and bad service. If you are that good, and have sooooooo many customers, you would think you would have enough money ( for what you charge for your products/services ) to have a larger facility to accommodate the flow of customers. That's just business 101. Why should I tip extra when i have to give up 1/2 - 1 hr of my time to wait to have my service. When ever I have an appointment I can't plan anything after because I know 80% + of the time I'm going to be late to my next appointment. There should be some check's and balances somewhere. If people make appointments, you need to ask them what their appointments are for, when they arrive and want to add additional services, if you can do it without run'n behind then do so, if not they will have to get ONLY the what they asked for in the initial appointment. if they get upset and go across town to the " other folks" oh well, they won't try that with them. and they will respect you, your other customers and you and your other customers time. For the volume of customers you have, there needs to be some fine tuning, instead of a bunch of excuses all them time. I figure the person that is making me have my service 1/2hr+ plus late, should give you a tip for me. I tip for the total service experience, not just because you fill I should. I have been get'n facials for YEARS now, and when i do go to the "other folks" I don't experience the type of service I receive there. Your products DO seem to work for me, and the facials I get DO seem to work for me. It is the waiting and bad/lack of customer service with time management is the BIG problem. Hopefully this is something that will be addressed VERY VERY soon. And for those that complained about the condition of your skin after your services, the products are homemade or rather custom made, and nothing you purchase there has the ingredients on the containers/bottles, like any over the counter products or spa products. and you can't get samples like some places sell, your pretty much stuck with what you get and they may exchange it. It makes you wonder if the products are licensed or regulated by anyone. and I can't remember seeing the license of the estheticians there, like I do with the "other folks". Skin Essence has changed my life. After having my daughter, hormones screwed my skin up. Gwen helped restore my skin back to its baby soft clear complexion. ALL the women there are excellent (Gwen, Pam, Rosie, Bridgette). I recommend all friends and family here even if you don't suffer from acne or blemishes. You will look beautiful and feel beautiful also. All of there products work!! No gimmicks. Make sure to get on their mailing list to receive monthly specials. It is money WELL spent. Down sides: They have gotten so much better with time but don't go in there expecting to be in and out. Also, the rooms and gowns could be a little more professional if you compare them to the higher end salons. I like to patronize Black businesses, plus they know the skin of people of color so I trust them with my face. Other than that, it is life changing. Just had my first treatment and I am pleased so far. I got the special where you have 2 facials within 14 days of each other and get products as well. Cece was very nice and I enjoyed her energy and the way she explained everything. I couldn't see very well when I came out but once I got to the car, I could see immediately how much brighter my skin looked. I have scarring and it already looked less obvious on my skin. She also provided me with their products they make which is geared towards black and brown skin. She went in depth to walk me through each product and what I need to do. This place is a mess! Do not go here!!! Beware, they will mess up your skin! My skin has been rough, dry, Breaking out with pimples coming out of everywhere and the worst thing that has recently happened is that I have a big light pigmentation scar right in the middle of my face, that I did not have ever in my life. I got a microbrasion treatment with my fiancé on Valentine's Day weekend and I thought it was nice; however, the lady rushed my treatment because she was the only one working on me and my fiancé. It was terrible... it was loud in the lobby and very unprofessional. Then they recommended me a lot of over priced after care items which later I learned it contributed to my skin being damaged. I have sensitive skin and the products burn my skin badly resulting in my face peeling,drying, breaking out, and light pigmentation scar. I had no idea that this was the end result, I will be contacting them tomorrow in person to show them what they did, this is definitely not right! This business is very good... I would recommend it to everyone to try. The only cons are the process takes over 2 hours. Though it doesn't feel like two hours because you will definitely fall asleep while waiting, but when you look at your watch.. your like "Damn!!! Good thing I didn't have plans afterwards".
