I came here after booking a deal through Travelzoo. Whenever I purchase a discounted deal through a website, I always look at reviews to see what people have to say about it, and everyone from Yelp (given there were only 2 reviews), as well as Citysearch were raving about the place, giving it 5 stars. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was somewhat disappointed with my experience here. I got the 60-Minute Alpha-Hydroxy Facial, and there was nothing special about it. Maybe their other facials are better, but this just seemed like any other facial I had gotten in the past. Yes, my face was soft and glowing afterwards, but I have never experienced a facial that didn't give me that post-facial glow. Walking into the skin care center, it had a home grown feel to it, like I had just walked into my grandmother's living room. There were photos EVERYWHERE, both of personal family members and pets, and also of celebrity friends of Mamie's. I guess I was expecting a more professional atmosphere, but everything was slightly on the cluttered side. Inside the treatment room, I was given a towel robe to put on for the facial, which was quite comfortable. However, as soon as she got started on the facial, I felt like she just slapped the cream on my face without much care. A bit of it almost got in my mouth, and she never bothered to wipe it off until I started to do so myself. They had a fish tank in the small room, but the sound coming from it was more distracting than it was relaxing. It sounded like how a toilet that's constantly being flushed sounds, rather than the soft trickling of a water fountain. And as far as the service goes, it was just meh. I had purchased a voucher for my facial, so although I didn't have to pay again when I got to the facility, I did have to pay for taxes. Because the amount for the tax didn't meet their required minimum for their credit card machine, they wouldn't take my card. However, the only cash that I had was a $100 bill, and when I tried to pay with that, they couldn't take it because they didn't have enough cash in their register to give me change. Finally, after asking everyone there if they could break the $100, one lady was able to break it for 5 $20 bills. But then when I tried to pay with a $20 bill, they STILL didn't have change for it! Really?? Really. Back to square one. Overall, there was nothing wrong with the results of my facial, but because I couldn't thoroughly enjoy my facial experience, I probably won't be back. read more

AMAZING!! one of the best experiences i have had. Kim was fantastic. I felt completely relaxed and at home; like i was with family. The room was nice and the chair and blankets cozy. I had a microdermabrasion facial, one of the most thorough i have ever experienced. Kim took great care in doing extractions and applying a special mask. *I meant to post this a year ago...that being said, I went to see Mimi atleast once every 2 months because... From the moment you see her beautiful skin, you know you're in good hands. Once she began her magic, without even touching my face, I felt it become smoother and more supple. Rewind, let me backtrack...I recently moved to NY from living in LA for 8 years, the climate change coupled with daily makeup wear (I have to wear a full face for work...daily) really took a toll on my skin. I have very mixed feelings about Mamie's. I purchased a Concord facial through Travel Zoo and, unlike other reviewers, didn't have a problem booking an appointment. However, once arriving, I was surprised that the place definitely felt like an old lady's living room, not a NY city spa. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment but was kept waiting for close to half an hour. My facialist, Valentina, arrived to the spa late, a few minutes after my appointment was scheduled to start. The"treatment room" was small, cramped, and undecorated, except for a fish tank - not a beautiful, elegant fish tank, more like the one your best friend Bobby had in third grade. While I waited and throughout the entire facial, there were loud voices and noises in the hallway (including what sounded like an air horn coming from another location in the building!) which negated any possibility of relaxation. Apparently, they were preparing for some type of photo shoot, or so said Valentina. The best part - during my facial, Mamie herself entered the room to take a photo of Val doing my facial. When I objected, she said that I wouldn't be in the photo. I could not believe that she simply strolled into the room mid-treatment to snap a photo! However, when it comes to the facial itself - it was amazing! I have gotten regular facials for a decade now and this was probably the best I've ever had. Val has a wonderful extraction technique, thorough but not at all painful, plus her massage skills are fantastic. The microdermabrasion and LED light made my skin absolutely glow afterwards. I have considered going back because the facial was top notch but the memory of the extremely noisy, cluttered space keeps me from returning. read more

This review is for the EXTREMELY RUDE customer service I received on the phone which would prevent me from ever going into this so-called spa. I called asking about their spaweek promotion for "nonsurgical facelift" and asking what machine they used for that. I went on to say that had gone online and read that there are various lasers used for what is called "nonsurgical facelift" so I wanted to know what they used. She said "Oh No, the title says "NON-surgical facelift, that means NO MACHINES". (Actually lady it doesn't, it just means non-surgery) and then she said "LASER for $50!??!!?" and proceeded to laugh (more like cackle) very loudly for a full 10 seconds. I told her that interestingly enough there are over 20 other places that are offering laser services for $50 during spa week. She told me to go ahead and give them a call. Really? I'm not sure where Miss Mamie learned her manners but she could sure go back to charm school. Earth to Mamie, you own a hole in the wall spa and YOU advertised on spaweek to try to attract customers. What's the point of attracting business if you are going to turn them off with your tacky customer service? Just asking.. read more

Her hands are blessed period. My face gets better each day. It's an indescribable glow. It's a quaint homely atmosphere. Mamie provides expertise and knowledge and great conversation. She doesn't shove products into your bag unless it's absolutely appropriate for your needs. Have you seen her clientele? If you need a place to jump start your face particular your skin this is the place to be. I would give her 10 stars if I could. I only need blush and lip glass when she's done with me and I still feel guilty putting on any make up post facial. Excellence right here in a midtown. PS The price is worth every penny. It's your skin! It's your glow and your first impression. read more

I loved the facial that I received from Mamie. Right now she's a one woman show and she charges a flat rate for a customized facial which can include microdermabrasion, micro-current services etc. She's very personable and makes you feel comfortable throughout, making it easy to relax and enjoy. Afterwards my skin felt so smooth and was the clearest it'd been in a while. She made sure she got in and cleared out all of my pores. I can't wait to get another facial by Mamie, she's amazing! read more

Completely rude and unprofessional desk staff. I hear the proprietor is great, but she needs to clean house when it comes to her administrative team. They are completely rude and ruined the facial I purchased for my sister's wedding. A hack operation; go elsewhere that is professional from top to bottom. This is New York City, there are many, many other options. read more

I'm having a hormonal/cystic acne breakout around my chin/jawline My skin is super sensitive. My dermatologist suggested I go to Mamie's. She said, "Mamie will give you what you need." It's the truth. After another woman cleaned and prepped me, Mamie came in, looked at my face and went to work. The extractions left me with a few scabs on my face. I was trying to deal with it on my own, but decided to call the office two days after the facial. Her assistant told me to email photos and come into the office. I went back and Mamie did something to my face and all of the scabs were gone. Five days after the first visit to Mamie's my skin has improved. My husband was impressed with how Mamie made the scabs/scaring "disappear." Going to see Mamie is like going to see your aunt. The office has a warm, homey feeling. She talks to you like you are one of her girl friends. Yes, she is aesthetician to the stars, but she took care of this regular girl. I really feel like she cares about my skin/appearance. She is excellent and worth every penny-it is your face! read more

Received a gift certificate and figured why not? Was a bit put off when I entered an office building but when I entered her suite I was enchanted by the cozy and warm feeling. There are pictures all over of gorgeous skin people so I figure this had to turn off good. I was wrong. it turned out to be the best micro dermabrasion and oxygen facial I ever had. Mamie is knowledgeable, funny and soothing to both your skin and soul. Not only will I be back but I will be gifting her to all my friends for their birthday gifts. read more

My boyfriend booked me an hour facial at Mamie's through an offer on TravelZoo for Valentines Day. I'd never been for a facial before so was really excited. I arrived exactly on time and only realized when i walked in that i had forgotten to print out the voucher. When i explained i had forgotten i requested to print it out on their computer. There was no one waiting in the salon - nor was the receptionist using it at that time. The answer was NO - and when i assured them i would pay and it would only take a seconds the answer was NO. The receptionist then went back and asked Mamie - she said NO. I then asked for them to tell me where i could print it out around here as i did not live in the area. The receptionist replied that she did not live around here either so NO she couldn't help. I then had to run 10 blocks to a staples to print it out and run the 10 blocks back. Relaxing enjoyable experience - I don't think so. Would i go again - NO! read more

What a dissapointment. Rude staff, bait and switch tactics and mediocre facial. I signed up w travelzoo for a 2 hour facial and microderm abrasion and other treatments. When I arrived I was all but ignored. Then the facialist told me it would only be an hour and a half. When I showed her my voucher for 2 hours I was told, in so many words, just to be glad I was getting anything. The treatment lasted one hour 15 min, only slighly over half the time paid for. They did not give me the hand and foot treatment on my voucher. The facialist was unpleasant the whole time, as if I was an inconvienence. When I spoke to the receptionist I was told she could do nothing, speak to the owner, who wasn't there. Honeslty, I get better facials in chinatown for $35 read more

I decided to go for a facial here, based on all the wonderful reviews and magazine articles on Mamie being a celebrity favorite, but was very disappointed with my experience. The place was very small, and felt stuffy and unwelcome. There were only 3 very uncomfortable sofas in the waiting area, which seemed smaller than a bathroom stall, and the woman at the reception area was very aloof and unfriendly. I wasn't surprised that my facialist was a young woman named Kym instead of Mamie (gosh she only works on you if you're a supermodel!) and was greeted with screeches every few minutes from Mamie's 2 birds, which was housed in the room across directly across the hall. Even though my facialist was good, it didn't feel relaxing at all with the loud screeching of the birds and visitors who were laughing hysterically with Mamie out in the hall right outside my room (which I thought was quite rude) for about a good 20 min while I was trying to relax. Overall, I would not come back. When I came out, there were a few other ladies waiting, and they were very snotty and condescending. Were they expecting Heidi Klum to come strutting down the hall? read more

if I could give her 10, 20 stars I would! Ive been going to this woman for 15 years! and because of her i have a glow!!! She cured my acne when dermatologists couldn't! I went from "just ok" skin to the type of skin that people compliment me on all the time. and beyond her skin talent ,she is the most generous, meticulous, specific person i have ever met. She customizes her facials to suit your needs, so there are no annoying up-charge surprises when you get the bill- if she feels you need oxygen or dermabrasion you get it! her extractions are legendary and she gets in deep everywhere- she wont stop until you are flawless! Neck, behind ears, crevices on your face you wis you didn't have! She does so many big models and celebs but when you are with her you feel as if you're the most important client in the world. I love this woman. I love her practice. i cant recommend her enough. Get a facial! you'll be hooked and look better for it! I used to see her monthly. now that Im out of town, I see here whenever I can. a trip to NYC is nothing without her. also- the $$$ is misleading. RUDE. I called to redeem a TravelZoo voucher for a facial, and the girl that answered the phone could not have been more rude. They are all booked up through May (the voucher expires 4/30) and told me they couldn't accommodate me so I would need to call TravelZoo for a refund. Most places will make appointments past the expiration date if they are booked up, in order to accommodate their potential customers. She said "well, the deal's been going on since mid-February", inferring that I should have called sooner for an appointment. Well, if you book up 2 months out, then even if I called in mid to late February, you probably wouldn't have been able to accommodate me in April anyway!! When I called TravelZoo for a refund, they said they several other people commented on how rude the receptionist at Mamie's was. I think I'm better off that I wasn't able to go here. If you do choose to go here, be sure to call well in advance. read more

The salon is relaxing, the regular nail polish job is decent and usually get it with a spa package. Other amenities: they usually recommend items that were used during your services, the nail oil is great and only $2 lasting for along time! The relaxation room is nice with tea and light snacks. Parking is usually validated if you bring your parking deck ticket. Areas of improvement: I went to a woodhouse spa in Bethesda, MD which offered food during your spa services and also complementart champagne. I thought that was such a nice tough! Since there are so many local restaurants in the area you could partner with that would be an additional stream of income. Husband and I agreed we both had a good experience but that next time we will most likely request for more pressure especially me for my "trouble areas". Checking in and out was seamless too and I appreciate they have homecare and treatment recommendations written on the cards they gave after checking out.

Result: Severe skin damage requiring immediate medical attention, resulting in prolonged physical and professional inconvenience. During the service, I experienced clear indications of improper technique and negligent care: Excessive Heat: The applied beeswax felt excessively hot, indicating an improper temperature setting. Aggressive Removal: The removal of the wax sheet by the esthetician was noticeably aggressive and forceful. Immediate Pain & Acknowledgment: Immediately after the wax removal, I informed the esthetician, Treasure, that the areas above and between my eyebrows were extremely painful. Negligent Aftercare: I questioned whether a proper post-wax cleanser (such as rubbing alcohol) had been used. Treasure confirmed that "No" such cleanser was applied. I was only advised to use a generic ointment and Vitamin E oil. Upon returning home, the painful area above and between my eyebrows became severely red and inflamed. I subsequently confirmed that the skin in these blotches-on both sides above the brow and between the brows-had been physically lifted and removed (skin abrasion/burn). Current State of Injury: The damaged area has progressed from red to pink and is now a noticeable brown/hyperpigmented color. Permanent Damage: The injury to the skin, particularly above the left eyebrow, remains visible even after two professional consultations, indicating permanent damage and a high risk of long-term scarring. Personal and Professional Impact: I have been forced to stay indoors and rigorously avoid all sun exposure to prevent further hyperpigmentation. This has caused significant personal and professional inconvenience, including the cancellation of scheduled appointments. Initial In-Person Follow-Up: I returned to the salon to show the extent of the damage. I spoke with an employee named Emily, who confirmed the owner / manager was unavailable. Broken Financial Commitment: The business owner promised in written format to reimburse all current and future dermatology visit fees related to this injury. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin's health, elasticity, hydration, and youthfulness since my first facial at Harmony. After my first appointment, Kelly emailed with me about my skin care products and what was best for a longtime and healthy skin routine. At my second appointment, Christine gave me a sample toner to use at home and told me about the products that would support my skin's optimal health. Everyone is always so nice! The environment is soothing and peaceful! I will never get a facial anywhere but Harmony.

Ever since I was a teenager, I've had skin problems. Acne, blackheads, dehydration, you name it. I was getting sick and tired of my bad skin, so my friend recommended Skin By Mamie, a skin care "guru". She told me she has a star-studded clientele, with A-List names such as Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, Zayn Malik, and even Angela Basset. Even better, she was conveniently located in Manhattan. After so many failed experiences with skincare, I decided to give Mamie a try. And boy, was she better than I ever excepted! I was welcomed into a very calming and soothing atmosphere. The energy in Mamie's office is serene, energizing, and all around amazing- unlike other skin care spots (I'm not going to name names!!!!). She welcomed me into a beautiful facial room and gave me an amazing facial. My experience while having the facial was absolutely supreme. She has a natural touch and it was personalized for my skin. She knew exactly what to do with my skin to make it glow. In addition, Mamie is so kind and personable- a real genuine person who honestly cares about you and your skin's well being. In this dim-lighted, tranquil, and refreshing area with this phenomenal skin care specialist- I felt completely at home and comfortable. You would think all of this would cost a lot, but this excellent facial is very affordable. And theres MORE!!!!!!!!! Mamie gave me so many useful tips to keep my skin healthy and radiant in my daily life. I walked out of Mamie's office with a radiant glow that my skin has never had before. After seeing Mamie yesterday, and discovered she was on Yelp, I HAD to share my story and write a review..... When I moved to New York from Wisconsin, my skin completely changed. I was known for my great skin, but something in the NY atmosphere changed that. Frustrated by frequent breakouts and what was becoming acne, I was in need of some serious skin repair. I began researching spas in New York and came across Skin By Mamie during a search on the internet and after checking out her website, I made an appointment. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my skin. After my first visit, I was hooked! The spa was private and intimate. And I enjoyed a true one on one skin experience. Her energy was so warm and genuine. She asked about all of my skin concerns and customized a facial for me. And sure enough her series of microdermabrasion facials brought my skin back to pre-New York state. I was so pleased and overjoyed with my skin transformation that I've been going to her ever since. And my experience yesterday took my appreciation for what she does to the next level. I hadn't had a facial in months, and was so overdue. My skin was stressed and congested. Luckily I was able to squeeze in an appt and take advantage of her monthly specials. Mamie recommended the customized Blackberry & Apple facial (that actually has fresh apples in it) and this was one of the best facials yet! It left my skin feeling refreshed, soft and radiant. I visited Mamie's Skin Care Center yesterday, and I had to write a review because I was so blown away by the quality of the service. My husband gave me this facial as a gift because I've been saying that I'd like to start taking better care of my skin. I'm always a little apprehensive when I try a new place because you just never know what you're going to get, especially when you go in with a coupon. However, I had no need to worry. This place is a gem and you will be so glad you tried it. The environment was calm and comfortable, and Kym was incredibly kind and thorough. I had a lot of questions for her about products, and some might see this as the moment to start pushing lots of expensive products on me, but she was not pushy at all and gave me terrific advice. I can't wait to go back to her! I made my next appointment before leaving the spa. I also met Mamie in the lobby on my way out. What a lovely woman she is! Kym, Mamie and the receptionist all treated me with such respect and care. Mamie and Kym even gave me great tips for combating some of the skin issues I have following the hormonal fallout of pregnancy, childbirth and nursing. I had troubled skin as a teenager and adult acne ever since. Throughout the years I have done everything to clear my skin: seen dermatologists; taken medications (including Accutane); and gone to a number of average to high-end skin care salons, including one well-known salon where I paid more than $500 for treatment. Nothing gave me the desired results. Then, over 2 years ago, a friend recommended Mamie's Skin Care. Mamie has been the best thing to happen to my skin. From the beginning, Mamie knew what treatments would work best for me; I no longer had to try and figure it out myself. I am an African-American woman and my skin easily scars. Not with Mamie. She does extractions with no scarring. She also gives me microdermabrasions and a host of other treatments, including my favorite, the Non-Surgical Facial Mask. Thanks to Mamie, I get compliments on my skin all the time now. Mamie is the warmest, friendliest and most down to earth person. Mamie is seriously one of the best facialists in New York. If you want to keep your skin clean, clear, healthy and soft while also learning great skincare tips...go to Mamie's Skin Care Center. If you want something more temporary, go somewhere else. Her goal is really to make your skin better, so she personalizes the facial to your needs. Her spa is also very elegantly designed and extremely relaxing, so you really feel as if you are taking a small vacation from the bustling city once you go there. It's not like one of those large spas where you feel you are literally a number being shoved in an out of a prep room...you get personal care here! It is extremely quaint and low-key for being owned by a person who is nationally recognized for her facials. It's amazing how many times I've received a facial from Mamie and gotten compliments that my skin was "glowing." I have been going to Mamie's for a while now, and each and every time I go, I receive a great facial. Today was no exception. I came in with dull, dry and lackluster skin due to this harsh winter weather and I left with clean and healthy looking skin. I received a facial that includes an exfoliation, extractions, massage and a wonderful Blackberry and Apple facial that left my skin looking clean and fresh. As soon as she saw my face she knew exactly what was going on with and knew exactly what to do to correct it. On top of her great knowledge of skin and her wonderful facials, she also makes you feel right at home. She treats you like you and her have been friends for years. I felt like a STAR the second I walked through the door! I was greeted by her Receptionist Monica with a warm heart and great smile. I was impressed that Mamie was able to "read" my face. I don't drink enough water, I ingest too much grease and.... A few other things that I cannot mention lol. I had a facial before but never like this!!!! The last time I had one I broke out from the products that were used. Mamie uses herbal and natural products that do not break you out and they smell great! The extractions that she did on my nose were awesome. It did not hurt and it did not leave any marks or scars. I could see the difference immediately when I looked in the mirror. My face was soooo soft and smooth....My boyfriend noticed immediately and was more than happy to pay for it and my follow up appointment. I went to Mamie a few days before a big event, making my appointment through her website. She accommodated me right away and answered all of my questions. When I showed up in her reception area she was so charming and made me feel at home right away. She has gorgeous skin and the few male and female clients who came in and out of her spa had unusually beautiful skin without makeup. I felt immediately at ease and loved her personality and down-to-earth style! She examined my skin and then gave me the photo rejuvenation facial which includes microdermabrasion and light pulse therapy to build collagen. She gave me some advice on skincare and never mentioned buying her products. The entire experience was so relaxed and enjoyable and proved to be just the thing for skin that glows. I've been going to Skin by Mamie for over a year, I love her treatments. I initially went to her because my complexion was uneven and I had darkspots left from blemishes on the dead center of my face. I had spent so much on fade creams and dark spot removers. After a my first counsultation with her she recommeded that I bring in everything that I was using! She had me toss out about 80% of the LOL. She's recommended a couple of books and a couple productes that have literally changed my life....because they WORK!!! Her treatments are relaxing, I make it a point to visit at leas once a month. It's a treat for myself that Mamie is knowlegeable and known through out the industry for being one of the best in the city. I first visited Mamie's Skincare in April of 2010, needless to say i have been going to see her for over a year, she totally changed my skin and she changed my life.. She is the salt of the earth.. I was looking at some of the reviews listed below and these people just dont know what they are talking about. And most of them are Travel Zoo clients, who, with my experience in my own profession are pretty annoying and live to write bad things about experiences they have had with businesses and half of the things they say are not even valid.. Thank you Lord!!! This place is heaven. From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was on a cloud, and I had the best facial OF MY LIFE. If they told me I could sleep there, I just might of whipped out a sleeping bag. I had the microdermabrasion and oxygen facial. At first I was hesitant because I heard from friends that microderm can be painful, but it was anything but painful. (Truth be told, if I knew my skin was going to look this good, I wouldn't have minded the pain anyway- haha). The treatment finished off with a mask and an insanely good arm massage from a therapist name Kym. Mamie is AMAZING!!!! My skin was glowing after I left this place. I have very sensitive, so I was terrified to get a facial. Mamie was so gentle and took her time extracting and cleansing my skin. She did not rush and we chatted as If we knew each other for years. I was given tips on how to take care of my skin and what I should and should not use on my delicate skin. I've noticed a few complaints and 1 star reviews. My advice is to book your facial with Mamie. I'm sure she would not be an option on the travel zoo discount voucher. This woman is an aesthitician to celebrities from Beyonce to top models (yes Beyonce gets facials) She is a MASTER! I've been a client of Mamie's for the past several years and have never had one facial that's less than amazing. I go once a month religiously and leave literally glowing every time. I've been getting facials for over ten years and I've never been able to find someone who does as thorough as a service as Mamie. She has an endless set of tools in her arsenal and her knowledge of skincare is unmatched. At first it was a bit intimidating to go to someone so well regarded in the industry but she treats you as if you were one of her celebrity clients. This was my review!: Mamie is great! I came here with my husband for facials 2 days before our wedding. Mamie gave us extra attention knowing that it was going to be our big day. Although her prices are pretty expensive, it was worth it. She personalized the facials according to our different skin types, and gave us great tips on how to take care of our skin. Simply Amazing! I have very sensitive acne prone skin. Mamie always knows what my face needs. She is the only facialist I can go to and go out right after having extractions without red blotchy skin. The facials are fantastic and relaxing. The décor is very nice. Large plants, natural light and a bed with nice comfy blankets. When I leave Mamie, my face always has a glow.
