Earlier this year, my husband and I found ourselves in the market for cross country skis. A little late to the game for the season (and perhaps the year with recent shipping delays) the employees at The Ski House were incredibly helpful in our search for gear in time for a February trip to Lake Placid, NY. After striking out at stores throughout Rhode Island, we found ourselves extending our search to Massachusetts and Connecticut. Most stores simply laughed when we mentioned we were looking for two full packages of boots, skis, and poles. The Ski House not only took our inquiry seriously but worked out a viable solution and game plan to help us find everything we were looking for. We worked most of our purchase out over the telephone, saving us precious time, gas, and mileage during our search. The Ski House gathered all of our ski equipment (minus the boots) based on height and weight and held it for us with a small deposit until we could get to the store for pickup. They talked us through the requirements we'd need in a boot and offered several suggestions on where we might be able to locate a couple pairs. With their guidance in mind, we found boots online same day that were compatible with the Alpina skis coming our way. Our excellent experience extended through to purchase. Everyone we encountered in-store was pleasant and knowledgeable. Our skis and bindings were set up in no time, poles measured and tested based on our height, and final purchase handled quickly and efficiently. Absolute scam . Sold me the wrong size ski boots, claiming they're "supposed to be tight." As a beginner, I trusted their so-called expertise. Turns out, they were cutting off my circulation after two runs. Three other shops confirmed they screwed up. Wasted $100++ trying to fix their mistake. Went back, and they ADMITTED they sold me the wrong size--then refused to do anything about it. No refund, no exchange, just pathetic and was told" buy new ones." Now I'm out hundreds of dollars with boots I can't wear. Incompetent, dishonest, and a complete waste of time. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

This place is always great. I've been coming to the Ski House for a few years because of their exceptional service and expertise. There are some other local ski and snowboard stores closer to my home, but I choose to come here because I've never had a bad experience. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They'll answer any questions and make recommendations based on what you're looking for and your level of expertise in skiing or snowboarding. My latest trip I was picking up some skis I had tuned and waxed and decided to pick out a boot bag. The manager of the store offered me a few different color options, and after selecting one, gave me a 15% sale discount just 'for the heck of it'. Very informative staff at this place. I could give my money to the online world, but I rather support an honest establishment that is family owned. Not only are they telling you what you need, but you're being expertly fitted. Being fitted properly is key to an enjoyable day at the slopes. My only complaint I have to make, is there is no price matching. I asked the older woman about a jacket that was cheaper from the actual Brand and she would rather lose the sale than discount the price. If you're considering whether it's worth it to rent from here on your way up north, as opposed to renting at the mountain, it absolutely is! You will save hundreds of dollars and priceless time that you won't have to wait in long lines while you could be on the slopes. Staff was very friendly, chill, and helpful. After so many positive experiences here, I brought my girlfriend to get outfitted for skis, boots, the works. After the first day skiing, her feet and toes were killing her. I chalked it up to the boots not being broken in. She was literally in tears. So we brought the boots to the pro at Sugarloaf since we were going to be there for 7 days. He took a look and suggested heating the boots (almost melting the toe area) and pushing the big toe area out to make more room. This didn't help. She switched back to snowboarding for the week and was comfy. I brought everything back to Ski house looking to return everything except for the boots. Since they were altered significantly from their original shape, I didn't think it fair to ask for a refund. John the owner was awesome. He said he was sorry (not his fault) about her experience and offered a full refund. He told me to go out to the car and get the boots too. I left them in there since I wasn't planning on returning them. He set her up with a snowboard, boots and bindings for the same original cost. Amazing! read more

We have been renting skis from here for a couple seasons. It is convenient since you don't pay for the the day before (when you pickup) or after you ski (when you drop off). That way you don't waste anytime the day(s) you are skiing. Their customer service has been great with advice in blisters and such. read more

I went to the Ski House to exchange ski poles I found the staff in the ski department uncooperative, and lacking knowledge . They had varying opinions as wether they could adjust the pole length, could not tell me the difference between various types of poles and refused to look into placing a order for the correct size pole. In general could not care wether not not I left a satisfied customer I have been skiing for 40 years and have never done business with the Ski House before and will never again. I ended up returning the poles and going to another shop. read more

Always very polite and eager to help. The staff is great and consistent. Smaller shop though with smaller size selections. I'm not always able to find things in the sizes I or my son need. That being said the staff always go above and beyond to try to accommodate when possible for sizing. On the other hand.... for equipment this place can't be beat!!!!! read more

i gave this place a shot, i've recently become more interested in skiing. I've brought them business 3 times and on two of those occasions employees have been flat out rude to me and frankly condescending. (not to mention they put my buddies ski bindings on backwards last year). i'll take the trip somewhere else to get my ski's tuned up. not worth giving them my business although its more convenient. read more

This January, I received some of the best service at The Ski House. I came in looking for new boots and the owner's son spent probably 3 hours with me, trying on different models, with many different inserts and different sizes. When I still wasn't sure after those three hours, he allowed me to sleep on it and offered to meet with me the next day to make the final decision. I ended up coming back and buying the boots after all and they've been extremely comfortable and I'm so happy with my purchase. Best customer service I have ever received in my life, in addition everyone there is so helpful and knowledgeable. We just bought 2 full sets of skis (boots,poles, helmet, bindings, etc) and it was a seamless process. My boyfriends boots were uncomfortable for him on the mountain. We came back and they set him up with better boots for his type foot and just made him pay the difference between the two. The new ones were more money. John the owner runs a great business and I would recommend them to any and everyone. Oh yeah and the lift tickets and unbelievably priced if you buy through them! I came to the ski house late last 2019 season in order to get a full snowboarding setup minus the boots which I already had. The staff was very friendly and sold me a board and bindings. I was a little concerned that the board wasn't tall enough for my height, but I don't weigh much so that was alright. They had issues finding bindings that would fit my boots and ended up switching the bindings I wanted with another that would fit for the same price. That was fine. What I didn't realize was that this was only done because my boots were too large for the board itself. Instead of losing a sale because they truly didn't have any boards that fit me right then, they sold me a board that isn't even rated to accommodate my boot size and left me with so much toe overhang that I may have to get a new setup. I really loved the staff as they were very friendly and did like the board, but after consulting others, feel bad that I spent so much on the setup that doesn't actually fit me because I truly trusted the staff here. read more

I have been coming to this business for years. They have outstanding customer service, know the sport and have been in business for 55+ years.
