Unbelievably great experience at Wesco…read more I'm a big, 6'2 beer league goalie with a size 15 shoe who always has a hard time finding gear, particularly skates. After speaking with Andrew who runs the pro shop (a smaller satellite Wesco store) at the Stamford Twin Rinks, he recommended I go see Nick at the main Wesco store in Brookfield. Having already spent an hour driving from the Bronx to Stamford, I was hesitant to drive another hour for gear - but I am glad I did. Andrew called Nick and informed him I was coming up, and when I arrived Nick was prepared and ready to get me fitted with a VERY gently used pair of Bauer skates that fit like a glove. I went in thinking I would try on some skates, find a pair and size I liked, and then shop around online, but when Nick said the price was $150, I couldn't leave without them (Mind you, the skates were last years model and used, but they were in perfect condition). I was in and out in about 30 minutes with a pair of skates that had been heat molded to my foot and sharpened on site to perfection. Can't thank Nick (and Andrew in Stamford!) enough for their dedication to providing the best gear and service around. I will not shop for goalie gear anywhere else again. Thank you Andrew, Nick, and Wesco!!!

Especially for goalie gear, this is one of the best stores as the goalie specialists are very knowledgeable about proper fitting and models, and are also fun to chat with. Although the prices for the gear are the same as all other hockey/goalie stores, they do have a very wide selection and also some used gear if you're looking to buy discounted equipment for a lot less and don't mind if it's been used a little.

I can easily spend an hour wondering through the thousands of fabrics. The staff is always helpful and never pressure you. They also have catalogs if you can't find exactly what you want. The back room is older fabric, and less pricey, which is a lot of fun to browse. One reviewer mentioned the place is dusty and old. That may be true - it has not changed much over the years, but their stock is constantly updated with new and current fabrics. This is where designers go for a great selection at a fair price. I stumbled upon this company by some sort of search engine hijinks...I had typed in "Velofix" and…read morethe first entry to pop up on Google was "Velotooler" and the spelling was similar enough that I clicked on it carelessly while doing something else, and then I stupidly assumed that Velofix must have renamed itself. Boy, what a mistake that was. The website looks good, there is a nationwide map showing where the mechanics are available, and I found one within 15 minutes of the suburb of Boston where I live. I was pleasantly surprised to find that as per website, said mechanic was available within just 3 days (Velofix has much longer wait times, can be 1-2 weeks on average) and the service (tune up of an e-bike) was actually $30 cheaper than what Velofix wanted. Wonderful! Or so I thought. Alas, that's about where the "wonderful" part ends. First off, the damned website is glitchy as all hell---after I create an account and submit all my details (address and CC info), I hit the "Pay" button...and nothing happens. So I double-check that all my adblocking browser extensions are turned off, reload the website, and do everything all over again. Same result. Over and over again. I even try using a different browser (Chrome) and again, no luck. So I hit the "Chat" button to get help from Velotooler. Got a live person after about 30 minutes, during which time I had left my computer, so we proceeded to play chat-tag for a couple rounds. She later sent me an email follow up the next day: said sorry, but I needed to first use their "Add payment" link on my account before placing the order. Which I did, but the same thing happened...screwy website took all my info, then on the last page where there was a final "Add payment" button, again nothing happened upon clicking. At this point, Velotooler's "help" person who had been helping me simply ghosted. Now mind you, I had been totally civil and polite the whole time, never cursing, blaming her for the problem, or personalizing it. Lo and behold, I suddenly had an idea...why not try the god awful Microsoft Edge browser! And so I did, for the perhaps second time since it was foisted upon my PC. And praise da good lawdy lawd, it finally worked...payment info was finally accepted, and the work order finally went through---just "pending confirmation" from the mechanic. Problem is, a full 24 hours later, my requested appointment date/time had still not been "confirmed" by the mechanic. I sent a further chat request for help. No response, not even an acknowledgement of receipt. Another half day later, I get an email notification from Velotooler that my appointment had been cancelled and that my credit card would be refunded. With zero explanation, apology, and or any actual human response from any Velotooler support staff. Ergo, it's clear to me that Velotooler is just not ready for prime time yet. They are obviously a half-baked amateur operation, probably understaffed and underpaid, and the staff clearly under-trained. And the website designer should get a good hard kick in the ass right out the door. I'm going back to Velofix, even if I have to wait a whole week for the next available appointment and pay a little extra dough. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is that they did issue a prompt refund (will have to check my credit card to make sure it does go through, my confidence in these people is pretty low as you can imagine).

I also needed to attach a bike rack hitch to the back of the car. Dylan was nice over he phone and had me come in & took the bike, looked at the car, made suggestions for installing the hitch receiver, and made me feel comfortable for being a novice getting back into riding at 68 years old! He also found a used bike rack that worked great and saved me money. He watched me ride and adjusted the seat height to my satisfaction. Great bike shop. Very friendly and also very knowledgeable. Had to wait a couple weeks behind customers ahead of me, but he was honest about it and pretty accurate about timing.
