They were one of the very first high end lifestyle stores ever. They saw a niche and filled it. Nowadays, the formula has been copied nearly every where you go. Hayseed was the trail blazer. To reviewer Re mask - gee if that is true and you feel uncomfortable, then leave. No one is forcing you to shop anywhere. This shop is chock full of wonderful objects, trinkets, jewelry, cards, luscious books and unique finds. The coffee table book selection is truly exquisite. Hayseed has been part of my life since my boarding school days and I am grateful they are still going strong. It's nice to have continuity and familiarity as one passes through time. It is very strange how several reviewers commented on the "elderly owner". While she very well may be a woman of a certain age, I highly suspect all of you would desire to embody such style, panache and grace as you proceed onwards in years. Those of you who age shamed her should look within to see what buttons are being pushed over what is lacking within you. Hayseed is a wonderful little shop in a wonderful little town. Please get out and support your local independent businesses. Please.

However, my 8 year old daughter wanted to buy a card and I was scolded and told children shouldn't "touch the cards". My daughter had picked up a birthday card she wanted to write for her aunt, which we were going to purchase. Why is it ok for an adult to pick up a card but not a child? You should have a sign saying "children not welcome in this store" and save us the time from even walking in there. My anxious daughter is currently crying about what she "did wrong" because of the way she was treated. I'm furious and this should not be acceptable!!!!!!

This review is more for the selling aspect rather than the buying aspect. They have a great…read moreselection and fair prices if you're interested in buying, however, if you're looking to sell, I recommend approaching with caution and doing your own research first. The lady who runs the business is generally fair and does her research, but I only learned this on my second trip to Pennies. My first visit didn't go horribly, but it wasn't the best either. I know the economy is bad and she's got to make a profit on things, but I felt majorly gypped on a set of silver souvenir spoons and a beautiful vintage stereopticon. The second time I had 2 vintage Franklin Mint silver keepsake plates, and that time she and another gentleman at her establishment researched the prices and informed me that I should sell them on eBay, since they would only be able to buy them for their silver content, which was a fraction of what they were going for on eBay. I'll admit that the second visit was probably better because I had the certificates of authenticity with the plates, but at the same time, the variation in the level of service was a bit striking. So, once again, it's a great, quaint place if you're looking to buy, but don't bank on them if you've got antiques to sell.

They all seem to be local artisans, one from New York and one was from Washington, CT. There were other fun jewelry that looked more vintage. There is limited street parking, or you can park on the green and walk across the street. Nestled on the first floor of a house, Jewell welcomes you into her business and each time it feels like you are in a friend's home. There are five rooms you can browse through. Each room is decorated with eclectic novelties which you can also purchase. The first room houses women's shoes, jewelry, and a sale rack. Outfits are tastefully displayed, but do not stay up long as the items become favorites of customers. A second room contains shirts, blouses, sweaters, scarves, and a surplus of boots perfect for the fall season. Another room is exquisite! It's like being in an expensive boutique where beautiful dresses, gowns, shoes, and accessories are sold for a fraction of the price you would pay otherwise. The last clothing room has racks of pants, tops, jackets, and coats available in all sizes. Treats are awaiting to be eaten in the last room which is the kitchen. What a perfect venue for displaying household goods & holiday items. I've been a customer of Fabulous Fashions since Jewell opened her first store. Thank goodness she moved closer to me! I rarely leave the store without buying an item or two or three. I've found myself running back to the store on the same day to purchase an item I passed up the first time, not wanting anyone else to buy it. You'll leave the store with your purchases wrapped in tissue paper and placed in a beautiful flowered gift bag tied with raffia and a signature Fabulous Fashion card you'll be sure to share with a friend.
