Gary Kennedy (Junior) is patient, concerned about what you're trying to accomplish as an athlete, and interested in working within your budget (I also met his father with whom I had a great conversation, but he wasn't helping me with equipment). Gary and his team bring an extraordinary understanding of the latest equipment and trade-offs between brand and models. They are all athletes themselves, who use both the bike and ski equipment. They spent over 2 hours helping me select and fit into a great AT setup when they were busy, patiently juggling customers to make sure all of them had equipment that was right for them. While I have been to the Easthampton store numerous times and purchased ski racing gear there for my son, the staff didn't give the same feeling of valuing the customer. Gary heard about my experience and worked hard to make it better, which was great. However, the senior staff, led by Jim, seemed uninterested in being helpful. Even when I told Jim that I had called ahead and Gary did as well to ask that they help me out, he responded: "I get thousands of calls." In fairness, you never know when someone is having a really bad day... but on the other hand, the not-great-attitude has happened more than once at the Easthampton location. All in all a great organization with amazing equipment -- but if it's a choice between Easthampton and Longmeadow, I'd go to Longmeadow. You won't regret it. If you have to be in Easthampton, look for Dylan or work with the younger staff.

This was my second visit, and both times the staff took good care of me. During their soft opening, they tuned up our bicycles and did quality work at a fair price. This week, I needed a few pedal bolts loosened to make bike transport easier. They had me stop in, fixed it quickly, and sent me on my way. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They showed me some impressive new bikes, including cool electric models and one with eye-catching balloon tires. This time of year, the focus is clearly skis. They had plenty of ski gear and cold-weather clothing on display, ready for winter. I missed the grand opening, but the service won me over anyway. Regardless if you would like to rent, buy new gear, or buy used gear, I recommend you come here before you go anywhere else. A major tip- If you're looking to rent for the entire season, do not wait until peak season because they will likely be out of many rentals by then. Be sure to start the process of renting your skis earlier in the season. However, even if they're out of rentals, they have phenomenal sales on a lot of their ski equipment and it may be a better investment for you to buy from them. I can't stress how friendly, patient, knowledgeable and helpful the staff is. They're very thorough and helpful with all of their services. Highly recommend!

I was on the fence with purchasing online or through a LBS (local bike shop) and am glad I went with the latter. Ray and his staff set me up on a bike, sized every aspect accordingly, and gave me an amazing price on an otherwise expensive bike. I noticed a small imperfection on one of my tires and Ray immediately upgraded both tires and adjusted both wheels just in case they needed it free of charge. I recommend purchasing your bikes here as opposed to "Comp. Edge" simply because Ray is good to do business with, stands by his products, and is not a bike snob. One thing I forgot to mention is that Family Bike is a bike shop. They don't sell anything else in the off season which makes them more dedicated to cycling as a whole. They also have amazing deals on past season stuff during the winter months.
