My family and I have always gone to Alpine Haus for all of our ski boots, poles, helmets, and skis. We love their customer service, great prices, and the variety of services that they offer. Regardless if you would like to rent, buy new gear, or buy used gear, I recommend you come here before you go anywhere else. A major tip- If you're looking to rent for the entire season, do not wait until peak season because they will likely be out of many rentals by then. Be sure to start the process of renting your skis earlier in the season. However, even if they're out of rentals, they have phenomenal sales on a lot of their ski equipment and it may be a better investment for you to buy from them. I watched as the staff interacted with young children, older adults & middle aged customers. They were all so patient and helpful to the individual needs of each customer. I went in with my 7 and 10 year old daughters on Saturday afternoon to try on ski jackets. The woman who assisted me made inappropriate comments about my body type. She said "We all have that" and pointed at my midsection. I am a short, curvy woman and not ashamed of the way I look. What is upsetting is how quickly this woman made comments about how I look. When the jackets I tried on did not fit comfortably she suggested that I shop at a big and tall store. So obnoxious and rude! I can't say enough good things about this place. I've skied for several years but have always rented. Since moving to New England where I have actual hills compared to where I grew up, I felt like it was time to buy my own gear. Like an idiot I purchased what I felt like was a good deal for a full setup from an online retailer, all the while knowing getting proper boots really requires a personal touch from a competent boot fitter. When my skis arrived I took them to Alpine Haus for adjustments to the bindings. The staff were really helpful and got me in and out in no time. When I got home that evening, I just didn't feel confident the boots that came with the setup I had purchased online were a good fit for me. I also had some questions about the biding settings they had set for me, so the next day I called them and they encouraged me to bring the skis to have the bindings rechecked just to be safe. I also discussed my concerns with my boots. When I arrived they were really busy, but were ready for me and got me right into looking at other boot options and fitting. Parker, my fitter, was great - very understanding and took the time to explain a lot to me, being someone who never cared before about boot specifics since I had only ever rented. He undoubtedtly got me into a boot that was much better for me specifically - they even offered a fair trade on the boots I had blindly bought online to provide store credit towards my purchase. It also worth mentioning I was there with my VERY three, three year old son, and everyone was incredibly accommodating with his shennanigans and he had a great time as well :) Like I said to start, I can't say enough good things about this place. Terrible place if you are looking to buy skis. Maybe ok for renting. Drove 1 hour to get there... was waiting in queue with wife, no. 2 in line. about 6 people behind us. Employee comes by and says all seasonals to line up inside. Everyone behind us goes in and lines up. Once person in front finishes I say to the employee we wanted to buy powder skis for both and boots for wife. Says we have to go join the other line, after the 6 people who were behind us and by now a couple of others who joined. Once I told him we drove an hour and he has now put us in the back of the queue, he said he will have someone attend to us and had us take a seat. They just continued taking people from the queue. If we were going to spend $2,000+ on this gear, we were not going to get the appropriate care and knowledge here... they couldn't tell up from down. There are much better options where someone can actually guide you with the decision if you want to buy. Go elsewhere for your shopping needs. Update/Response: I did call a week and a half ago and ask to make an appointment, the employee who answered the phone said no appointment needed, come in and we will take care of you. So much for that... 2 hours wasted on the road. But hey, great you have 5 stars... hopefully this review saves someone else time. I went to REI and got my stuff... When we arrived, they were fairly busy we managed to flag down a staff member to ask about some boots who told us he would come back to check on us after he had made sure other people had been taken care of first. (?) we saw him then go ask someone seated if they've been taken care of (they had) then someone else approached him asking for help and he went to assist them instead of coming back to help us, given that we were there first. We left. We can spend $500 elsewhere. read more

This is what excellent customer service looks like. Came into Alpine Haus last Fall for a bootfitting for my annoyingly complicated feet. The associate spent over an hour with me and I settled on a pair of new boots. After skiing about 10 days this year, I liked the new boots but also concluded they were one size too big. I broke an important bootfitting rule of thumb - if they're really comfortable in the store, they're probably too big. My fault - not theirs. Fast forward to today when I finally had an opportunity to do the 1 hr drive back up to Alpine Haus. It was fairly busy but once again the staff spent at least an hour with me and allowed me to swap out my pair for a brand new, different brand boot, one size smaller - at no charge. As others have said, it's worth whatever drive you need to endure. If you need new boots you will regret not buying them here. read more

For the close proximity to many New England ski mountains that CT has, they seriously lack in ski rental/stores so I'm happy I found Alpine Haus. I went here because I needed more ski attire - warm clothing, better gloves, etc. after using the same few things since I was 12 years old. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted (I forget his name), but this young man was extremely friendly, helpful and honest about all products I asked about that might be best for me. They had a great selection of clothing, skis, snowboards, etc. for both men and women in a variety of different brands. They could have used a larger selection of ski pants and jackets, in my opinion - maybe there was less because of the time of year? Regardless, the whole store was extremely organized. Will definitely be coming back before next season to get more gear! read more

If every retail store had their level of customer service and care, more stores would keep their doors open. I have gone there since my son started skiing 6 years ago, no matter how busy they are you are greeted quickly. We purchased new skis for both my boys at the start of ski season and one of my sons binding broke, I brought it in for a repair, they were quick to say the problem was a defect and without hassle a new pair of skis was exchanged. I really thought I was going to be out $500 but they stood by their products and my son didn't miss one week of skiing in the process. They are the only shop around and they could use that to give less than stellar service instead they value the customer and give outstanding service every time. read more

Update: a month later and i've already skied the wax off, I brought the skis in because I dont really have a clue what I'm doing on my own anyway. I also brought up a question about my boot fit (as my boots broke in between my chunky calves and dainty ankles my heels were finding a little too much freedom.) They were able to put some sleeve things in my boots (for free because I bought the equipment with them) and they fit perfectly again while we waited for the wax to heat up. In and out pretty quickly for 10 bucks, can't beat it. read more

I went here because I wanted a custom bootfitting from knowledgable people, and they seemed like the best place for that in Connecticut. If you don't feel like reading further, that turned out to be entirely true, and I got everything I hoped for in the equipment I ended up with, along with a competitive price. I waited for about 2 seconds after I walked in, and a salesperson named Cam asked me what I needed. He ended up spending about 90 minutes total with me. He asked me about my needs, measured my feet, and got the perfect boot for me on his second try (and he only tried the first boot because it was cheaper). Even though we had a great fit, he brought out a bunch of other boots to see if he could do better, talking me through features, upsides and downsides of different styles of boots, etc. I really got the impression that their whole ethos there is to make sure you've got the best possible fit they can give you. And since they have a policy that you can bring it back for a refit or exchange if it doesn't work well for you, I felt really confident with what I got. Even better, he never once condescended to me. I skied a ton as a kid, but I haven't owned skis in the last 15 years or so. He patiently talked me through all the updates to boots, how to judge a good fit, and all the features I would need--and not need. He patiently did custom footbeds for me, heated the boot liners to reshape them to my foot, and never once upsold me or made me feel like he had anything else to do than make sure I had perfect boots. I was so happy with the boots that I asked his advice about skis too. He took everything I had already said about my skiing style and goals, asked a couple more questions, and suggested the two exact skis I had already researched. We talked through some more options, and I ended up with stuff I really feel good about. And the bonus? When we rang everything up, the fact that I bought boots, skis, and bindings together resulted in a bundle price, and I paid a little less than I thought it would for the whole package. Awesome staff! Good service. Great selection! I had a great experience here as a first time buyer! I've managed to avoid buying skis for over 10 years, and I was not looking forward to it. My friend and I stopped in to check out the place. Our guy "Chops" led us through the entire process... From measuring our feet for boots to a guided tour of the ski sales rack, he did a great job of teaching us about the equipment, while zeroing in on our experience level and price point. The best part was that he wasn't pushy at all - I honestly felt like he was making sure we had all the information we needed to make the right decision on our skis, bindings, and boots. Not to mention, I scored an awesome deal on skis from last season! We did happen to visit on a Sunday afternoon right before ski season, so it was definitely busy! What an Incredible Experience ! I have to say I was extremely scared as I haven't been on a pair of ski's in about 15 years. When ever I went in the past I have always rented. But I was determined to buy. Have my own set, finally, have my own gear. I live in New York and someone had recently mentioned Alpine Haus in Connecticut. I visited some local ski shops and did my research but found little customer service and less than knowledgeable sales people. So last weekend I made the drive to Alpine Haus. I was greeted by Eric and told him I wanted to browse. He told me to let him know if I needed any help and he would check back with me shortly. Then i walked over to the boot area and overheard the owner fitting a young boy for his first set of boots & skii's. I was extremely intrigued as I am a mother of 2. He was patient and explained in detail to the parents and boy everything he would need to know. That kind of customer service is why I made the drive. My experience was AMAZING and I spent the next 2 hours with Dusty (the owner). He not only helped me but educated me through the entire experience. There was so much I needed to learn but was always afraid to ask. I never felt intimidated or inadequate. I think Review's are important as business owners work so hard to run, manage, & help keep business's fueled in a tuff economy. Ski expert Eric Laboss was amazingly helpful. He was very patient and offered several options for my ski level and terrain preference. Luckily I know my way around a ski shop and what I'm looking for, so the conversation regarding the best ski for my ability and skiing preferences was effortless. I did some research prior my purchase, and I know I got a great deal. Only item Alpine Haus didn't have was the boot I wanted in my size. This is a GREAT place to rent skis, boots, snowboards, poles - and also a great retail outlet for all of the above, plus ski/wintersport clothing, hats, goggles, gloves, etc. The crew that works here is very friendly and patient and really takes the time to help you fit into ski boots (whether buying or renting) and if you rent in CT, you'll save around 50% compared to what most ski resorts charge to rent their equipment. They also charge only $6/day (I think) for insurance, so if you break something, you don't have to worry about buying it. Finally, they only charge you for the days you ski! So if you have the stuff for 4 days (pick up, ski, ski, drop off) - they only charge you for 2 days! It's a great bargain, and I'll be going back there again because of good prices and excellent staff. read more

I really like these guys. A nice local mom and pop place in town that gets to know you . They not only know your style and your ability, they know where you go and when you go and the conditions you like to go in. Brought my daughter to be kitted out for her first time and they took such great care with her explaining the expectations of boarding v skiing and allowed her to try on all sorts of things. Due to that patience and time that was taken, she had the greatest time her first day on the slopes and can not wait to get back out there next season. Bought new boots and skis here. First few times I skied the boots felt kind of sloppy and loose (no wonder why they were so comfortable). I bought them before the season started, and went back to them after a couple of months in. I went in hoping to return them because I thought they were too big. Turns out they were the correct size (sizing confirmed that). All they had to do was glue some wedge on the back of the pad in the heal area. That made them feel much better, but put pressure on my big toe. They took the boot in the back room and heated a bubble to budge out the area that was adding pressure. No charge! Now the boots are great. They do a great job fitting your boot even after the sale. read more

I've taken my skis in to Alpine Haus to be sharpened/tuned, and was really impressed with the results. These guys are the best ski service company in central CT. Don't bother going anywhere else because you'll just get ripped off and won't be as satisfied with the results. The guys at Alpine Haus back themselves up with their high prices...because its worth it. Plus they are all super knowledgeable about boots, skis, socks, everything! I haven't walked out of there, ever, without having learned something new. If I had to bash one thing about them, it would be their turnaround time on getting tune-ups and sharpening. I was struggling on the mountain this year and I was about to just walk away from skiing, until I went to Alpine Haus and met Jeff. Wow does he know his stuff! He got me in the right gear and now you can't get me off the mountain! They won't just sell you something to sell something, they make sure its the right equipment for you. I actually wanted a "prettier & more expensive" pair of skis and boots, and he wouldn't sell them to me because they weren't the right equipment for my level skiing. There were five people working the store all were eager to assist. I had my bindings adjusted to fit my new boots in under 15 minutes. The staff provided me with recommendations for preferred products while I waited. I purchased several other items. The only ski shop I will ever return to. We had stopped in to get some services on skis and snowboard. My son's snowboard had received a beating these past couple seasons and I did not realize how much he had grown since we purchased it. He was in need of a new one. Jake was the person who assisted us in purchasing the board and bindings. He was very knowledgeable in the different types snowboards that they had available and we were able to grab a board with end of season sale which was fantastic. Jake was quite personable and displayed much professionalism. He made sure that sizing of board and fit of bindings on board were correct for my son. The store was well staffed and all staff were attentive and helpful overall. You can tell that employees are happy to be there and enjoy working there. They have some great gear on sale (end of season) . We will definitely be coming back to Alpine Haus for future purchases and tune-ups, repairs. Went to the Columbus Day sale today with the intention of buying new ski boots. They would replace the boots I have that are uncomfortable. After about 30 minutes of trying different things, I left the store with my own boots ( which were in fairly good shape) and adjustments with the footbeds. Drew knew the products and took the time to ask my 17 yr old son all the questions to create a package of snowboard, boots and bindings that fit his needs, his personality and my wallet. He pulled out a number of options in our price range, explained pros and cons, manufacturing process, etc, let my son pick to suit his personality. While it turned out to be at the top end of my budget, it will fit my son's interests for years. As you can see, I was impressed with the service.
