Otherwise, get knowledgeable people to help you pick out the right bike for you-- right size, right setup for safety and function, right type for the riding your doing, and the right price for the machine you actually need. I'm usually pretty critical and cynical, I am not quick to give glowing reviews. I am not nor never have been an employee or associate of Biker's Edge. In this case though, I am really just a very happy customer! When I find a local business that seems to do everything right, I think it is fair to give them kudos! Friends of mine from Indiana come visit every summer. Last summer, one of their bikes had a problem--the spokes on his rear wheel were shot. Biker's Edge fixed it fast and for a reasonable price and kept us riding. These friends are very loyal to their local bike shop in Indiana and have always bragged about it to me. After dealing with Biker's Edge they remarked, "I think this might be one of the best shops in the country." Needless to say they were impressed. Personally, I bought my first real mountain bike from them and I have ridden it hard for 3 years and they have kept it going strong from warranty service to maintenance and upgrades. I still absolutely love the bike and plan on riding it for at least 2 more years (not that I wouldn't mind a new bike, but I promised the wife!). I also recently got a single speed commuter that has been just fine for what I wanted getting back and forth from work. Biker's Edge also fosters a biking community, weekly rides for mountain and road, an annual holiday party, and more. Everybody on the staff has always been friendly and helpful and I plan on using them for all my biking needs for years to come.

I stopped in here on the way home from work one night and talked to them and after talking I decided to bring her in the next day for some test rides. They must have taken out over a dozen different bikes for her to spin around the parking lot. we narrowed it down to one and were going to come back to buy it later that day after lunch. The staff here is super-friendly and knew about all things bike oriented, and i noticed a sign that says they tune up small gas engines (lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc) which is pretty cool if you have an engine in need of repair. as a small independent bike shop they didn't have every brand and every model of every bike in stock, which is reasonable. smaller shops can't carry some lines because the big bike companies require small stores to buy big minimums, which is a bummer if you have your heart set on a specific brand you may not be able to find it in a store to test ride. when i called back to finalize the deal the store had closed early, which was a little disappointing - we were trying to buy a bike that day and ended up going to a bigger chain store to buy the same bike we had tried at bobby sprockets for about the same price. Charlie took me through several brands and models on my first visit, and set me up with a list of bikes to try. A few days ago when the weather was cold, and dank out and rather dreary we rolled in to try them out. Such a happy to help crew, while I took a bike out, they set the next one up and had it ready for me to take it out next, and so on. I was so thankful it cut down on the over all outdoors time that day, glad they didn't mind the cleanup.... I avoided every puddle I saw fellas So with that in mind I narrowed my choice down to 1, but I still had 2 more bikes to ride elsewhere..... so I chose to wait instead of leaving with it that day. I called this morning and they had their bike fitter there as well as a full staff ready to meet mine and fellow customers needs and zero wait!!! I was fitted quite proper!! It looks like they want to lock out their neighborhood customers and limit it to only Bikes they sold them. I had the need for a new brake pad to be installed and was told they didn't touch any other bikes unless they sold them into their shop. They told me 1) too heavy (although I have had service 2x before), that they didn't want to get into a job and have it cost 7-10X of the cost. I even offered to have them call me before proceeding or even sign a hold harmless agreement but it boils down to they want to squeeze out any brands they didn't sell. The person was apologetic for this position and said if I got stuck to call him back but no promises. That sent me down the street to another place who I will post a review. Bottom line is I took it to another place in Vernon (Pedal Power) and they did it fast plus a tune up for 99 dollars.. Steve at Pedal Power is wonderful if you are in the same bind. I would buy anything in the future from them because they see business as a long term relationship. I was very disappointed. I will post the other review with the second shop as well. I gave them 2 stars because I feel that they at least may have helped me but I don't want to beg for someone to service a very easy install that took 30 min.

After a careful inspection they simply said they needed a basic tune. They could have tried to upsell us new tires or new brakes or essentially the whole kitchen sink with their trade-in program, and we would have been none the wiser, but they didn't. Such integrity. We also grabbed us 2 helmets while we were there. Can't wait to take these bikes out for the first time!

We started off going towards the river front (which was beautiful) and from the boathouse we biked into the old Colt factory, stopping in at the Thomas Hooker brewery. Fantastic little spot to stop- it was game day so there was a lot of enthusiasm and energy. We biked through Bushnell park and eventually ended up in West Hartford at Blue Back Square before turning back into the city. The bikes were perfect throughout, well maintained and comfortable to zip around in. Cost wise, its an incredible deal. 20$ a bike for the day and 1$ bike locks. Renting through BiCi was such a great way to spend a day in Hartford. Great service. Great bikes. Great advice. 12/10 recommend.

I went expecting to grab a couple things and look around, but ended staying a while and talking with the owner, Bryan. He set up a little counter near the mechanic's area and was wrenching on bikes while we talked and was kind enough to answer all my questions about what he was doing. Great guy! Super knowledgeable (and funny) and clearly loves the sport and knows bikes! He told me all about the plans for the Airline Bike path (great for rides with my family, when I visit over the summer) and all the mountain biking nearby. Really refreshing to come to a shop and get treated so nicely. The shop plans to have a sweet kids' bike purchase program, and has a pretty nice selection of skateboards and gear, which is great since my kids are just getting into the skating too. The prices on labor and products were good. We plan on moving to CT this summer, and we'll definitely be back! So glad to see that East Hampton has a shop. I'll definitely be back!
