I have been to this shop before to have 2 different electric bikes that was purchased while I was in California serviced there for minor things like tune up, flat tire, helmets, locks, etc.. It looks like they want to lock out their neighborhood customers and limit it to only Bikes they sold them. I had the need for a new brake pad to be installed and was told they didn't touch any other bikes unless they sold them into their shop. They told me 1) too heavy (although I have had service 2x before), that they didn't want to get into a job and have it cost 7-10X of the cost. I even offered to have them call me before proceeding or even sign a hold harmless agreement but it boils down to they want to squeeze out any brands they didn't sell. The person was apologetic for this position and said if I got stuck to call him back but no promises. That sent me down the street to another place who I will post a review. Bottom line is I took it to another place in Vernon (Pedal Power) and they did it fast plus a tune up for 99 dollars.. Steve at Pedal Power is wonderful if you are in the same bind. I would buy anything in the future from them because they see business as a long term relationship. I was very disappointed. I will post the other review with the second shop as well. I gave them 2 stars because I feel that they at least may have helped me but I don't want to beg for someone to service a very easy install that took 30 min. read more

What a great crew and shop!!! I purchased my new Specialized Roubaix today, and had nothing but OUTSTANDING customer service with Charlie as well as the owner Keith. Charlie took me through several brands and models on my first visit, and set me up with a list of bikes to try. A few days ago when the weather was cold, and dank out and rather dreary we rolled in to try them out. Such a happy to help crew, while I took a bike out, they set the next one up and had it ready for me to take it out next, and so on. I was so thankful it cut down on the over all outdoors time that day, glad they didn't mind the cleanup.... I avoided every puddle I saw fellas So with that in mind I narrowed my choice down to 1, but I still had 2 more bikes to ride elsewhere..... so I chose to wait instead of leaving with it that day. I called this morning and they had their bike fitter there as well as a full staff ready to meet mine and fellow customers needs and zero wait!!! I was fitted quite proper!! From the well educated and completely patient staff to stocked shop these guys are top notch!!! Can't wait to try a group ride with your crew at least once, but I'm sure I'll see you on Strava!!! I brought in two, 10+ year old mountain bikes in for tune-ups, and they were great at helping us pick out new tires and ensure that they were ready to ride after years in the garage. Amazingly-stocked store. Chill yet professional atmosphere. Prices are cheaper than in NYC, but that's probably not saying too much. The second you walk in the door, you're greeted by a cheerful employee who seems like he was born to serve you. They guide you directly to what you need, and they don't try to force anything upon you. Some of these shops make you feel like you're buying a used car, but NOT Cycling Concepts. I'm a competitive cyclist who rides for a shop team elsewhere in the state. That being said, I had some work I needed done on my bike, and cycling concepts was closer, so I decided to swing by. Long story short, these are awesome guys who do quality work, they're super helpful and I trust them. I now come here for all my maintenance and parts. They've even done some really minor work for me at no cost. I agree with all the other reviews, especially what Dave G. said about it being a no-pressure atmosphere. I spend a good amount of money on cycling parts, and I feel like I can talk about equipment with these guys without feeling pressured to buy anything. I walked in with a flat tire on my old Raleigh on a busy summer Saturday and was back out riding again in a few minutes (I expected a terrible bill - was shocked at how little they charged). As least four times a week I do an 8 mile bike ride from East Hartford through Glastonbury along the river and down Main street in Glastonbury, CT. My recently purchased e-bike has elevated my riding experience. Even though I did not purchase my bike at Cycling Concepts, they have been great in servicing and assisting me with any of my bike needs. Last week, March 14th, I was five miles into the ride and I developed a flat tire. I was comforted knowing that I was 4 tenths of a mile from Cycling Concept. I was also grateful that they were open. Keith, the owner, was the sole person, interestingly, was attending to quite a few of customers and their needs. When I got to the shop, he made every effort to repair the flat but the hole was too big. Unfortunately, he did not have, at the time, the oversize inner tube that I needed for my four inch tires. I kindly asked him to hold my bike in order to return home on the East Hartford side of Naubuc Avenue (2 miles) to return with my truck. One hour later I picked up my bike. I was appreciative of him to hold my bike because it is heavier than a typical bike and the idea of walking two miles with a flat was not appealing. Kudos to Cycling Concepts and their wonderful staff! read more

My daughter, age 11 needed a new bike due to a growth spurt. We purchased the Specialized Ariel in Acid Red from Cycling Concepts, a big upgrade from the bike she was riding! Keith made sure it was comfortable and safe for her, she even got to try it on the trail in back of the shop, there was never any pressure. Great experience, price and customer service. read more

Average experience. My daughter needed her first grown up multi speed bike. We wanted a real bike that she could grow with. Overall experience was average and prices were market. They had a "kid" selling me a bike. Wish they put in a bit more effort into it. Getting a real grown up was a huge experience for me daughter and they should have invested more time with a more knowledge person. I have additional kids and they did not win us over. I had dropped my racing bike off at CC to be shipped to USA Trathlon Nationals in Omaha this August. When the bike was shipped back to CC I ask if they would hold the bike there until September until it could be shipped to The Neatherlands for the Triathlon Worlds. I live in Vermont and to pick up my bike and then return it would entail 8 hours of driving. CC not only agreed to hold my bike but to do a tune up. Some of the work I asked them to do turned out not to be necessary and saved me a bunch. When I picked up the Bike in Rotterdam it was ready to go and in better shape than I have ever seen. I learned how to ride a bike as an adult on someone else's bike and wanted one to get better on. After two bad bikes from Walmart (yeah I went cheap) I decided to go to Cycling Concepts to get a "real" bike. I talked to Sean and told him my price range and we discussed what I was looking for and he picked out a great bike! Love that bike. And as I've needed accessories (car rack, new bike seat, bike rack, etc) and bike maintenance I kept going back to Cycling Concepts. Always helpful, they have what I need, good advice about riding, and I even joined in on one of their rides. No lie I was definitely the slowest person there but it was fun and very inclusive. I was struck head on by an SUV while waiting at a red light. I was able to jump out of the way, but my bike was not so lucky. I was stuck 10+ miles out from home on the other side of the river with an unridable bike. Fortunately, these guys were a little over a block from the accident. I told them my story and they immediately took the bike in back, gave all its components a quick checkup, and repaired whatever damage there was. Moreover, they did not charge me for any of the work. It may have only been 20 minutes of work, and no major damage to repair, but the fact that they gave me priority at that moment was very generous of them. Been doing business with these guys for close to 20 years....Ownership has changed in that time, but the quality of their products, service, and professionalism has NOT! It has always been top notch. I've purchased multiple Mountain Bikes, multiple Road Bikes, multiple Comfort bikes, as well as trailers for the kids and have had ZERO problems with all of them. I soon hope to pick up one of those Fat bikes as well, so I know where i'll be going for that. I've been cycling for 30+ years. The first time I started doing business with Cycling Concepts was in 2009 when I purchased a road bike from them. Since then I and family members have purchased 5 other bikes from them; road, mountain, cross. I use to do all my own maintenance and I purchased parts online. Cycling Concepts now does most of the service on our bicycles. I have never trusted another bike shop with my bicycles. I still do some service work myself because I enjoy it but I purchased my parts from Cycling Concepts. Their prices are as good as online and they are very helpful and knowledgable. read more

I've had a number of very positive experiences in this bicycle shop. First, I had my bike tuned up--and it has been functioning magnificently for the past year. The owner took the time to see that the seat was adjusted perfectly, as I had been having multiple issues with my knees due to running injuries. He tried different things with the pedals, until he arrived at the idea of putting pedal extenders on. He explained that proper bike fitting to the individual was a crucial element for riding long distances without causing further injury. Since I've had the pedal extenders and the proper seat height, it has made a difference to me in a more comfortable, enjoyable ride. He helped me select the proper helmet, which has also made a difference. When I was interested in purchasing a Specialized electric bike, he let me take a wonderful ride around the neighborhood with a showroom model. I was hooked on the ease of pedaling this new kind of bike, and and put my order in that day. This shop also runs group indoor cycling sessions with bicycle racing videos each Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until around 8 p.m. This is free, open to the public, and is a wonderful activity to participate in during the cold, dark months. I have gone to two of the sessions and I can't wait for the next one. Workers in Cycling Concepts offer superb advice and knowledge of cycling to consumers from beginner to advanced racers. People of all ability levels are given the time and personal attention to make the right purchases for their needs. Cycling Concepts is kept neat as a pin (which is important to me), it is well-stocked with bikes for all ages and styles of riding, and it feels very cheerful and welcoming whenever I visit. The shop mechs have gotten my Time Trial bike in great racing condition. Previously, the shifting had been schetchy, at best. I never knew, going from the small ring to the big, or the other way, when it was going to fail. The gents in the shop have that machine shifting crisply and reliably everytime. No fears in any race! Best bike shop ever! I've been a customer for over 5 years, and I have come to trust and rely upon the staff for excellent service and guidance. I went to France on a bike trip, and Keith took the time to review changing flat tires and removing pedals with me prior to the trip. Good thing because the second day out my friend picked up a piece of glass and got a flat. We were able to change the tube and complete our tour of vineyards in the Loire Valley thanks to the preparation I had from Keith. I'll be buying my next bike from them this fall. read more

The knowledge of the guys on the floor and the mechanics is exceptional. The owner is down to earth and cares about his customers. I've been coming to Cycling Concepts for years for service, parts, bikes and have NEVER had an issue. They've always gone above and beyond my expectations. I tell and bring my friends about this shop and everyone of them has said, 'I see what you mean.. AWESOME Bike Shop'. It's easy to see why each and everyone of the employees enjoy their job. It's such a great atmosphere. No judging or trying to sell you the latest and greatest parts but rather, what you need. They host multiple events throughout the year, many that are free and not just riding events. They have indoor seminars about various things. The only pushy thing I've noticed from these guys is Safety, for you as a cyclist. Push away guys and THANK YOU! I've seen Cycling Concepts on the news twice this year. The first time was how they, the Racing team they support teamed up and worked with Channel 3 to give away 4 or 5 bikes and all the gear that goes with them. I knew nothing about bikes the first time I walked through the door at Cycling Concepts. Seriously, I didn't even know how/why to shift. In the year and a half since that day, they have answered every one of my questions without ever making me feel foolish; they have been supportive of my baby steps; they have heartily welcomed me at their demos and events; and they have supported me with my hand-me-down beginner bike knowing that if I fell in love with the sport, I'd be back for more. Now I'm riding ~80 miles/wk, have bought 2 bikes from them and will prob. buy another this summer (some for me, some for my teen kids), plus accessories. They show me the easy fix if I can avoid a costly repair, they don't push a new bike on me when the hand-me-down is all I'm able to afford at the time, but they also know the bike industry inside and out and sell/maintain bikes that cost more than my car. The workouts and joy I get from my bike are invaluable and the support of Cycling Concepts is a big part of what helped me get here. I can't recommend this store highly enough. read more
