Well I have been using this shop and I have nothing but things to say about these people. Great ski shop, great people and with some of the best equipment in the area. However that is not why left another review. I happened to see that my first review for this company did not show in the overall rating. Well that got me really upset, why do I bother to leave reviews if that do not count. Also how come out of all the reviews I have written this is the only one that does not show in the over all rating. So I called Yelp and asked why that was so. I was told that it was their opinion and that my reviews must of not had enough relevance. I asked how that was possiable, I since I have way more reviews than the ones that are shown in the over all rating and some of the reviews are over 5 year old. I was told that is just the way it is. SO I have a statement, Yelp you do not have the right to censor my review, simply put. With that said I started to look into this, I googled "why my reviews do not show on Yelp". Well a snow covered mountain of information is what I found, all of which pointed to the finger at yelp as a low life company. In short form, Yelp manipulates their reviews to show what they want, If a business wants their good reviews to show that you have to pay Yelp, if you do not pay yelp then only the bad ones will show. -Unfair and unethical on Yelp's behalf!!!-. I had heard something about this before I got i started writing reviews, but I had no idea that I would one day be apart of yelps lie. With that said, I will not be support a unethical company like Yelp every again. What a wast of time. read more

Very disappointed! I ordered the Performance ski package for my wife and me online to save 25%. When I got there they talked me into the Demo package. When we got to the lift we noticed the top laminate was peeling from one of the skis so we walked back to the store to replace it and they said it wouldn't affect the performance and gave us a hard time before they replaced the ski. We took a gondola up for our first run and my wife could not get the ski on, The binding was not adjusted correctly. We forced the ski on (luckily), got down to the bottom, went back to the store to re-adjust the binding. Both skis had to be adjusted (boot size 175, ski was set to 172). They rented me K2 Reckoner skis very (short). They were not skis for the current conditions, deep powder. I told them I thought they were too short and they said they would be fine. Bad experience! We ended up paying $202.45 each instead of $119.97 each (+taxes) for crappy old skis. read more

I just returned from an early season trip to Vail with my son. I rented demo ski's and my son a demo snowboard. The equipment was excellent and they happily swapped out skis after the first day, just because I wanted to try something different. Their prices are by far the best in Vail and the demo rentals with the online discount were cheaper than most places performance packages. The people at the shop were all friendly and helpful and the location is great. I will not rent anywhere else when going to Vail. Thank You Ski Base! read more

A seeming good experience online, devolved into some bullsh*t customer service that left a very salty taste. I was at first, very pleased with how they handled my reservation online. After making several changes, they appeared accommodating. However on December 23rd I gave them a call around 5 pm to let them know that I would be arriving to pick up my rental package between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. The person from ski base on the phone told me that was fine as long as I got there before they closed at 7:00. Keep in mind it was snowing and I was staying in a condo in East Vail. Ski base is in Lionshead Village and I had never been there before. Upon parking at the Lionshead parking garage and walking extremely fast through the village looking for the shop, my two sons and I entered the doors at 6:58 pm out of breath from the speed walk, and many patrons were still inside. The man at the register asked how he could help me and I let him know that I had called about picking up my equipment. He quickly dismissed me and said they would not give me my rental two minutes before they closed. I let him know that I spoke with his people earlier who said it was okay as long as I showed up before 7:00pm, which I did. Instead of servicing me based on the information one of his employees shared, his response was "well I don't know who told you that". WTF? Seriously??? Turn around and ask your staff who gave me the wrong info and deal with them later. I reminded him that It was his employee who gave me this information. He said he would not start a new rental without a reservation (which I also had), so I corrected him and told him that I certainly did have a reservation and that my son's boot size, skill level, height and weight was already in his system, but he still refused, got tongue tied, and stumbled through some crap about "the system" not letting him rent any equipment after 6:30. He said I needed to come back first thing in the morning at 8:00 a.m. and he would prioritize my rental. Hell to the naw!!!! That's not how you put the customer first. If your staff made a mistake then you should eat it, take responsibility and help a new customer out. I had to then turn right around and return to my car empty handed. What did I do? I canceled my reservation and went with Vail Sports at the bottom of gondola 1. Of course it was more expensive, but the vibe in that shop was 1000x more relaxed and accommodating. They repaired my son's snowboard binding without charging me, allowed me to take poles without charging, and they gave me a free day of storage because they couldn't find my basket in a timely manner. THAT'S TOP CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Ski base prices are more reasonable, so they bank on volume rentals and don't care if they lose me as a customer. They know some other thirsty patron will return the next day, tail between legs to line up and bend over for mediocre service, but not me. You guys suck! read more

I had a terrible experience with SkiBase in Lionshead. I was given faulty gear that they did not notice when giving me the equipment. The manager, Miguel, was rude and condescending and offered no recourse. This was very frustrating because I barely got that to ski that day, and they were completely responsible. Their customer service was lacking and I will personally never rent from them again especially when there are so many other places that offer the same thing. read more

Really enjoyed my experience here. Our flight landed in Denver pretty late so we didn't get to Vail until about 30 minutes before the shop closed with a group of 6. Even though they were already super busy, they welcomed us and helped us all with our ski/snowboard rentals. We tried on several different sizes, and one guy helped a friend get the "perfect" binding setup through several attempts. We ended up staying about a half hour after closing and no one was shooing us out or making us feel like a burden. The staff were all cool and seemed like they loved having fun with each other. The next day, some people in our group had adjustments they wanted to make and boards they wanted to be different (longer, shorter, etc.) and the guys and gals at Ski Base switched things out without question. Prices were fair and quality of all our gear was great! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to rent equipment in Vail. read more

Great prices, gear and service. I don't know why people would give this place such awful reviews. In fact, in reading the bad reviews, they all seem to be because of a mistake the user did, and nothing to do with the store. I just rented for a week from SkiBase , as did one of my travel mates. The gear was top notch, the prices were VERY Low compared to Vail, and the service was great. I had a problem with a boot on day one and they were super accommodating in getting me a new boot and quickly so I could get back on the mountain. The location is amazing, a 4 minute walk from Lionshead gondola to a bench at SkiBase to get your shoes off. I have nothing but great things to say about this shop, the ownership and the staff working there. I will highly recommend this place to anyone looking for skiis in Vail. Great prices and a couple of nice guys but seems to get overwhelmed easily. Also the equipment isn't the very latest but for the price you're paying (assuming you're booking online) it's well worth it to me. Just bear in mind that if you store your skis here you have to start and finish each day st Lion's Head which isn't super continent for getting to the back bowls. read more

Been here on a few occasions when my friends gear wasn't available or we had defective equipment. Everytime I enter the shop I'm greeted with smiles and asked what I need help with. Coming from a customer service background I always appreciate this. Add in the fact that their staff really know about skiing/boarding (def not the case in other shops) and I am sold! With regards to equipment, these guys really impressed me. First visit was for a broken binding. They found the problem, had the part in the back, replaced it, sent us on our way in 10min. On other occasions we returned to do full rentals. My friends and I got their powder/demo set-up based on the staffs recommendation (both skis and board) and we had a blast! Almost bought that board right there! The last time I was there I had my friend fit for their first time skiing. Staff asked all the right questions, put it all together, and sent us on our way. I never had to intervene or give my 2 cents as it wasn't needed. read more

My family and another family rented from Ski Base last week and I thought the experience was great. This is a laid back old school ski shop and everyone was super helpful and friendly. The location was great if you are skiing out of Lionshead and their prices were by far the best in Vail. The equipment isn't the prettiest, but it preformed as expected. It was late in a tough season after all. It took a me few boots to find a fit I liked, but the staff was patient and friendly. They happily switched out my demo skis the last day when I wanted to try something new. You can leave your ski's there at the end of the day and just pick them up in the morning. There was a few bins to leave your shoes in and I saw some expensive shoes in there with no issues. It was nice to gear up there and go down the escalator to the lift. Excellent experience at ski base! After hours of researching prices and reviews glad I found this place with cheap rentals and quality equipment. Thought it was too good to be true but everything worked out. Service was efficient, friendly, helpful and the website set all the right expectations and advice. Really liked that they didn't charge for the day when someone in my party wanted to take a break for a day. Great location, a short walk to the lifts at Lionshead. the place claims to be the cheapest around but i can't confirm that since i didn't shop around. the prices were decent so it wasn't overpriced. the employees are all young males and one or two show their signs of immaturity through their lack of customer service but most were friendly and professional enough. there is one old man (around mid 50s). i'm guessing the mid/late 30s lady is the owner but she wasn't friendly at all. she never greeted me on my multiple trips. she just stared at me. she was a little snappy with some of the other customers as well. just her style i guess. they gave us refunds on some of the early returns so i really appreciated that. overall, it's not a bad place but friendliness goes a long way. read more

I was worried about why this rental shop was HALF the price of others. Was the equipment old? Beat to shreds? Bait and switch? NONE of the above! They didn't have the K2s I wanted, but put me on a brand new pair of Volkl Kenjas, which were much more appropriate for the amount of snow we had the week we were there. I had WAY more fun on the Kenjas - excellent call. About halfway through the week I stopped back in just to say thank you and apologized for giving them a hard time about the K2s. Go to this place - GREAT value, new equipment and a great owner who knows what he's talking about. We will be back...except I liked the Kenjas so much, I bought them! read more

They were very apologetic and have assured me that the have taken the necessary actions to ensure the safety of their customers by implementing changes to the way their equipment is setup and stored. I made my reservation online after researching all of the local rental shops, Ski Base offered the best deal and had great reviews. It had been eight years since I last skied so I was a little nervous when I dropped in to see these guys. They were fantastic. They asked me a few questions, answered my questions, very patient and very helpful. I regret ever renting equipment from this lousy ski shop. You would think the shops in Vail, CO would be better run and focused on customer service. This store is truly low class. My family of 4 rented ski equipment for a whole week during spring break of 2017. I truly wish I had rented from a better known business. I gladly would have paid more for better service and equipment. There were numerous issues I had. First when you walk in you a greeted with the disgusting smell of sweaty feet. I understand it is spring break and the stores are crowded. The temperature is warm and people's boots will cause their feet to sweat. No other rental store I went into had this disgusting smell. That is because they invest in proper equipment to air out the boots. After getting fitted for our gear I was also a bit disappointed in the skis I received. I paid the higher price for the "Demo" Ski package. While the skis worked well they looked liked they were many years old. They were full of scratches and chips. Typically when I have rented demo skis from other shops they are like new. I think the whole shop is full of last year's skis that other shops get rid of. The first two issues I let pass but was extremely pissed regarding a purchase I made. I was in need of new ski gloves. I purchased a pair of $80 Scott ski gloves. I skied only 4 days with normal use, no crashes, no aggressive skiing. On the 4th day I noticed a large tear in the palm of the left glove. The stitching was already coming loose on the palm as well as the fingers of the right glove. I tried to return the gloves to the shop and was told that that "sometimes happens". The clerk refused to either refund my money or give me a new pair. Thanks a lot for selling my crap gear and ripping me off. I can't believe this shop operates this way. They have lost a customer that skis frequently with their family. I will make sure to tell everyone I know to never use this store. read more

I rented a demo ski package. The first set of boots were pretty wet and I switched for a second set. The second set were somewhat damp. Service was a little slow but the place was very busy. Equipment was fine but damp boots at the beginning of the day wasn't enjoyable. read more

I wouldnt trust this place. I almost had to cancel my entire trip because I was relying on them for ski rentals but they let me down. I called 48 before to make sure I could make a reservation for ski rental and they said they did have enough stock for me and my family. One day before they sent me an email to tell me they weren't going to be able to give me the skis. This was a big bummer since all other ski rental shops were also out of stock at that time. I rented six sets of skis for my family over MLK Holiday weekend. The prices were very competitive. We picked up our skis the night before we started skiing and the staff was very good. The shop was run by the owner and someone who was possibly his son. They could have been a little more personable, however, it was a very busy weekend and they got us in and out quickly. The owner seemed to be onsite each time we went into the shop. This is a sign of a business owner that cares about his business and the customers it serves. PROS... It was the end of the season and they still had a great selection of demos and other rentals. I looked around and they had the best pricing. I set my sons and myself up on demos and was able to try different ones each day. Nice option. One or both of the couple owning it are usually there and I like the mom/pop type shops. They have a long narrow shop and heard it can get VERY busy in the mornings especially on powder days. I would recommend getting there early or go the night before like we did. read more

My son and I rented skis at Ski Base for our week at Vail. I was a little concerned that their price was considerably lower than some of the other rental companies a few doors down, but we couldn't have been happier with the experience. We picked up our skis the evening before our first day, so the place wasn't very busy - which I'd certainly recommend. Despite it being the end of a long day, the staff couldn't have been more genuinely friendly and happy to help. We had particular skis we each were hoping to try, and they took the time to poke through their racks until they found the exact skis and size we asked for. It didn't take any pushing or prodding to get them to check - again, they couldn't have been happier to help. There is an option to add a tip when you check out, which I hadn't seen at other rental places. In this case I was very happy to. If that's their key to great customer service - it's working. And the latest Nordica and Volkl equipment was great too. read more

Can NOT believe the horrible, horrible customer service at this place...and at Vail! We reserved rentals a month in advance because they had such good prices. Well...when we got there, they did not have rentals in our size. Worse--they gave my teenager a size bigger and told him it was his size. This is very dangerous and downright criminal on their part. Because of their incompetence in being able to honor their reservation, we had to pay "walk-in" prices at three times the cost at another rental place of what we had planned. I emailed the owner/manager and asked for an explanation and never got one. I intend to tell everyone in every review possible how horrible I think this place is. I think it's a shame for Vail to allow such a rental place--it gives the resort a bad reputation as far as I'm concerned read more

Great prices, friendly staff although laid back (aka slow). Shop is not set up for any efficiency as patrons were tripping over each other in the cramped store. Location is great. Rental equipment was lost overnight multiple times, so getting the exact same gear is a gamble. My boots were very used and not comfortable, even by rental standards.
