Awesome steaks kind waitresses and nice atmosphere a good place to go if you want a good steak

Not just no but hell no. The fact that they call themselves a steakhouse is laughable. Felt like we were driving up to Sanford and son's junk yard. Walked into the place and was eventually greeted by the only employee we saw. Salad bar was miniature and featured maybe 10 items. Two in our group ordered prime rib (medium) what they got were charcoal briquettes. Another person in the group ordered sirloin (also medium) and what she got can only be described as beef jerky. I could go on, but you get my drift. Perhaps we were there on an off night but seriously...one of the worst meals we ever had. read more

Beautiful old lodge of logs, nice mountain drive, great food especially prime rib and steak. Family atmosphere , bar available, this is a rather new place but very nice. Good service, great food and atmosphere. Feel like you're in the west of older days. Everything homemade and delicious. Will go back again! read more

The food was decent. Prime rib and shrimp was good and cooked well. Salmon was way over cooked, and way too hot to take a bite. Server was excellent, very attentive even when busy! They do need to clean up the restaurant property. There's trash piles around the deck and directly by the front door when you walk in. Poor service. Poor food quality. Poor attitudes. Cleanliness and porch and stair quality. Ample parking though. Never to return. Ever!

Trying to find this place was starting to make us nervous. We were driving through a residential area and had no idea what to expect. Soon enough we arrived to what looked like a large cabin. Seemed like we were entering a friends house for dinner. Once inside, the place is full of character and characters. Libby was so funny and welcoming. The rustic feel combined with the smell of home cooking made us anxious to try the food. We we're already hungry and couldn't wait to try it. Passed the small salad bar on the way to our table which looked great! We had time to take in the views on the deck while waiting for our meal. Breathtaking! We each ordered a different cut of meat. They were cooked to perfection. We couldn't pass up the huckleberry cheesecake...so spectacular! A must try if you're in the area! read more

What an incredible place. Felt like coming home for the best steak dinner. Be sure to call ahead!

It can be tough to get in here sometimes just due to the fact they are a small family ran business and since Covid, haven't really fully staffed back up, so it seems. There were five of us that went to dinner last night and three ordered the prime rib, on ordered a filet and another ordered the cod fish & chips. Our prime ribs were very good, I ordered mine med-rare and the other two ordered theirs medium. I would say they all came out the same, medium to possibly med-well. Still, they were very tasty, and the horseradish was pretty good too. My wife said here filet was very good and cooked exactly to perfection. The fish and chips looked very good and the person eating them said they were excellent. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star is that the food wasn't very hot. Our baked potatoes were good, slightly overcooked and kind of small, and their famous carrots were very good too. Salad bar is a bit small, but certainly serves the purpose. I really like this place because it does feel homey, and has a nice Montana feel to it. It's a great setting, in our case the snow was falling pretty good and it was just warm and inviting. The people are good, and try to visit, but being short-handed doesn't leave for a lot of time to visit. This was a second visit and we will surely return. read more

Totally unique experience. It's like going to dinner at a friends house who lives in a gorgeous home in a beautiful location. They have outdoor seating so you can enjoy the scenery and the hummingbirds that buzz around. Very friendly service and delicious food. I had the filet and it was amazing. We'll be back for sure. It's a small operation so it's best to call and let them know you're coming. read more

We went here last night and are definitely planning to go back again. It is in such a beautiful setting and so incredibly homey. I truly feel like we went to our friends cabin for dinner last night. I had THE best salmon that I've ever had, cooked perfectly. We brought home Sandy's Huckleberry Cheesecake for a midnight snack and it was amazing. I wish I knew the Lady's name that helped us, she did everything front of the house by herself and did it well! read more

What a fun place to enjoy the late afternoon on a beautiful Sunday. Sandy and John have spent their lives here both guiding (hunters) and feeding folks. Totally delightful conversation with them (initially we were the only ones there.) we both had steaks and their magic carrots and a great salad bar. We'll be back frequently for sure! This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Steaks perfectly cooked and everything fresh. Never crowded and reasonably priced, this place is well worth the short drive from Hamilton. Note: A good strategy is to only eat half of your food. You're going to want to save room for the huckleberry cheesecake. It's the best! read more

Went to the Skalkaho Steak House for the first time with my wife. It is off the grid so to speak, but worth the drive from Hamilton. Rustic look and interesting "stuff" everywhere. For starters their minestrone soup was excellent... probably the best tasting we have ever had. Their salad bar was adequate. They do need to use another method to get the dressing out of the squirt bottles. They were all plugged up and were messy to deal with. Our Prime Rib was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately was incredibly tough. We were not expecting Prime beef, but I wonder if it was even Choice beef. Will go back to give it another try....probably will stay away from the Prime Rib though read more

The magic carrots where bomb. I got the shrimp skampi and that was the best ever it Wes actually full of shrimp! And the melted butter with the seasoning tied it all together. Also had really good service and it wasn't to busy. read more

An unexpected gen outside of Hamilton Montana. I want to start by explaining this is not a fancy, city slicker steakhouse you find in Portland or Seattle. This is a western, Rocky Mountain steakhouse with casual atmosphere in a beautiful mountain setting. Every one of the staff was very kind and accommodating and the steak I ordered was delicious. Nestled in a beautiful Montana valley, Skalkaho Steak House is a wonderful place to eat! The food was delicious (I wish I knew the recipe for those carrots!) and the service is top-notch: professional with a touch of sass! We were a large party with a reservation, and all our needs were met and exceeded. This restaurant is worth veering off the beaten path. We were visiting family in the area, and we are so grateful they introduced us to Skalkaho Steak House. Months after our visit, my husband contacted them from CA and they worked with us to purchase a gift certificate to send to our family members. Worst experience ever. We had made reservations for their Mother's Day Buffet. When we arrived they could not find our reservation. She made apologies but said she could not seat us. She then went back to get what I assumed was a manager. This person was unapologetic even after she found and noted the record of my call noting someone hadn't transcribed it to reservation log! The drive to the Skalkaho Lodge Steakhouse is scenic and enjoyable. You are apt to see wildlife and need to be on the lookout for deer crossing the road. The restaurant is what you would expect to see in Montana, made from logs and with appropriate furnishings in keeping with the hunting lodge decor. We ate there with friends a couple months ago, and again with different friends this evening. Each time, every meal was prepared exactly as ordered, arrived hot and attractively presented. The unanimous opinion was that the food was delicious. Following a hefty helping from the great selection at the salad bar (the orange-ginger dressing is to die for), we had scallops, grilled tuna, sirloin steak and New York steak. Everyone gets a serving of the famous carrots and I'll say no more, they are delicious. The proof is in the tasting. The service was excellent, and our requests were quickly dispatched. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is delicious, and the service is fantastic. I need to say, after all the accolades, that I felt the prices of many of the menu items are above average. Even so, you can get a good meal for under $20, not including beverage. read more

My husband and I had our first Anneversary dinner there on Monday night after checking out a couple other places which were closed on Monday. We drove trough the smoke and arrived at this beautiful lodge and restaurant . Ad the lobster and prime Rib. It was awesome. Atmosphere is very relaxing and the staff was pleasant, and friendly. Would recommend to everyone. Prepare to pay for the meal. So worth it though. read more

I came here with a friend last year. Her shrimp cocktail was perfect and tasty. My steak was good and tender, and she enjoyed her salmon. We sat on the deck to see all the hummingbirds that come at dusk, the wildlife of deer, elk, or birds, raccoons, or turkeys, that may be in the exquisite views. It was a gorgeous view, however the view doesn't make up for the lack of service and manners of the wait staff. It was a very poor performance from the staff. The steak was average but nothing to brag about, small and expensive portions. A very cluttered look and the inside looks like they should be on the show hoarders. Visiting family in Corvallis and asked them for a recommendation as to where we might take them for dinner. They suggested Skalkaho Lodge/Steakhouse so we went. All five of us had wonderful dinners at a reasonable price. The 12 oz. Prime Rib was cooked to perfection, tender and delicious and attractively priced at $22.95. We had Prime Rib, Filet, and Salmon and all were delicious. I would highly recommend this place. Only letdown was Sandy (hostess) being out of her well-renowned Huckleberry Cheese Cake, but then that's not totally unexpected when we just drop in. Lovely Western Montana "Lodge" ambiance you should enjoy. We'll certainly return when we return to the Bitterroot Valley. read more

If there was half a star I would give it to them! We got suckered into going here for Mother's Day. It sounded enticing but when we got there it was awful in every way! First the appearance: the balcony had not been cleaned up nor the windows. If there was a view, it was impossible to see due to the clutter on the balcony and the dirty windows. Secondly, the salad bar consisted of some iceberg lettuce and some canned dressings. Moving onto the main meal buffet. It had been touted as a great place to take mom. Please, do me a favor and let me cook myself on Mother's Day if I have to return to the Skalkaho Steakhouse. The " prime rib " was shreds and bits of fat riddled grey meat cooked to the consistancy of stew meat. Corn right out of the can was unceremoniously dumped into the sterno heated chafing dish. Dessert was again a bought, not homemade , atrocity. Do not go here, period. You would do better to go to Super One supermarket and buy frozen dinners. read more
