Frozen churros should be arrested for false impersonation. I was going to stop by Cardenas Markets to get Tres Estrellas Churro mix which is like bisquick for churros and make some at home. I highly recommend this mix and it even comes with a piping bag but you should have some experience of making choux pastry dough since the directions (for me anyways) have always been wrong. However, since I'm planning on baking lots of cookies tomorrow I decided to jump on Yelp Bay Area to find a nearby churro vendor. We could've gone down to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Christmas in the Park where there is one good churro stand down by Quetzalcoatl. Again, the other stands have those fake frozen impersonators but since I didn't want to search for parking I decided to go with the Yelp recommendation of Churros El Guero in front of Fresco Market next to Eastridge. This is also a very busy spot but we were able to score a parking spot right away. Unfortunately, the churro guy had just arrived and his oil was still heating up so we were patiently people watching. This is when we noticed lots of people going over to this haphazard outdoor dining spot. This was not the ideal spot to visit since the weather forecast has been falsely taunting us with rain all day. Since it was now noon we decided it was best to eat real food before munching on something sweet. I had never been to Elma's Taqueria which is connected to Fresco Market probably because I don't like that market. I went in once when they first opened and it stunk. Literally and figuratively. Nope, I'll pass. The line for Elma's was impressive so we strolled up to the outdoor window and looked up at the menu. It's basically Birria everything. Birria de Res (beef) and Birria de Chivo (goat) in a bowl, tacos, quesadilla, quesabirrias, etc...and daily specials including Menudo today. Since it was packed we shared a table with a gentleman from Michoacan while waiting for our order who said this is the best birria anywhere. He said even in Michoacan this is would be the best birria. High praise indeed. My verdict. It was good. Well seasoned, juicy and generous portions. I could only eat one taco so we packed up the rest to bring home and walked back over to the churro stand. Remember the churros? I did. In fact I remembered hiring El Guero to do some events for me in the past where he brings his pot of oil and makes fresh churros on the spot. Then you can have him fill it with chocolate, strawberry, caramel or other fillings. $3 each or 4 for $10. We opted for 2 originals, 1 chocolate and 1 strawberry. We gave him the cash, brought them home and plopped down to enjoy our fresh churros and we were happy. End of story.

Free admission, no line for entry, advance tickets unnecessary, no ticket check at all. This food festival is almost identical to 626 and Foodieland, but only one fifth the size. It had all the same elements, just "mini" versions... a mini stage with live music, a mini sized area with games and prizes, a minimal number of merchandise vendors, minimal seating options (mostly near the stage), and even less tables, so hopefuly you like eating on your lap or standing up, and even with about 20 food trucks/tents and drink stands, it felt like minimal food offerings as well. Good news is this meant the crowds, lines, and waits were mini too, or non-existent. I went around 6pm, and I think the longest line I saw was about 7-8 people, and for many there was no line at all. She is quite a busy lady so I was pleased that she remembered my event and knew that it was coming up and assured me not to worry. The day of the event arrived and her folks came on time. Oscar and Pedro were professional and courteous. They introduced themselves and set to work. They had their own table but it's good to have a couple more tables for their set up. The food was cooked and ready at the time promised. All the food was good: the meats, the grilled veggies, the salads, beans, rice, the salsas, etc. My guests were complimenting on how delicious the tacos were. We ordered for 50 people. Everyone ate yet we still had a lot of leftovers! Fifteen minutes before the allotted food serving time, Oscar gave us a heads up for last call. Everyone got in line again. When it was "closing time," Oscar informed us that we can take all the leftovers and so we brought out all our own trays and containers to take all the food. It's located in a parking lot right by the Whole Foods on Almaden Expy. Upon arriving, we were greeted warmly by a woman who gave a brief rundown of the menu and how to order. They accepted Zelle as a payment method which was a plus! We ordered a variety of tacos and one burrito and only waited about 10-15 min for our order. I was surprised to see how many people were there esp for a late night weekday dinner so the short wait for our food was appreciated! Onto the tacos ($4 ea): I tried the al pastor, carne asada, and lengua. The pastor was DELICIOUS and marinated perfectly. The carne asada didn't hit as much as the pastor did, but the lengua was also good too. They're generous with the meats here which was nice!
