I came here with my coworkers and it was pretty tasty. Interesting concept with the proteins not cooked and cooking in front of you on your own plate by stirring it around. (hence the name, sizzling lunch) I chose a beef plate and added an egg and kimchi. There were a lot of options but since it was my first time, I didn't want to over do it with additions. I'll be back to try other dishes, the service was great and fast. There was plenty of seating and the music playing.

SO good, as always! Service was speedy, accurate and professional. I have been here several times and it never failed: always taste good. The most fun part is to wait for the bottom of the rice to get crispy. Ambiance was casual, and be prepared to have to wash your hair and shower afterwards. Once you enter, it is all sizzling!!!

For those who were looking for an alternative to Pepper Lunch, look no further--Sizzling Lunch is the perfect replacement. Flavors, taste, and service was almost 1:1 to the original. Honestly the difference may just be "Pepper" versus "Sizzling" in their names. We had a late lunch, so we ordered only one dish but for two tiny people. Let me tell you the portions here are generous. Im definitely glad we only ordered one order of the Beef Garlic Plate. Flavors were spot on, didn't need any extra seasoning and it was flavorful right off of the plate. I did add a bit of kimchi to the top and it honestly rounded out the dish in my opinion. Don't be afraid to experiment with their vast options of toppings! Overall definitely will be coming back and food felt clean/healthy for a restaurant. Highly recommend.

Nothing too special for a piece of steak but this is a nice spot for some clean food and a celebratory atmosphere. Garlic butter is not all that but the meal is good overall. The service is kind and quick here, you have to pay at the entrance when done!

We were down in Fremont and wanted to have lunch with a friend after a meeting. We looked at a bunch of different restaurants after we realized the one that we had planned on going to was closed on Tuesdays. Sizzling Lunch has a decent yelp score and offered enough variety to satisfy the three of us. Two of us entered the restaurant and were greeted immediately. We asked for a table for three and were directed to a four-top. The hostess asked if we had dined there before and we had not. She explained to us that we could order from our phones via QR Code but that she also had a hard copy of the menu that we could look at (pictured below). Water glasses and a carafe of ice water along with set-ups were delivered to the table while we perused the menu. We decided on two appetizers and three dishes to share. To facilitate this, we also asked for three bowls and three pairs of chopsticks. When the food came, we had it placed in the middle of the table. The entrees are served on a cast iron flat pan sitting on top of a wooden platform. Each one of us stirred up the ingredients in the pan in front of us. All of the veg and proteins are served raw, but the cast iron pan is sizzling hot, which is perfect for cooking the ingredients. The cooked rice also forms a nice crunchy crust similar to Chinese Clay Pot Rice, Korean Dolsot or Spanish Paella. Each of the dishes we ordered was very satisfying and easily earn a score of 5/5. Each of the dishes that we ordered was delicious. The quality and quantity were both very good and satisfying. Service was okay and could easily be improved with a minimum of effort. With the hostess and a server working front of the house, it was unknown what they were doing when they weren't present in the dining room. Perhaps they had a role in the kitchen as well. They both served food to tables. If they simply slowed their pace after dropping off dishes and looked carefully at the guests at every table, it would be easy to see if someone wanted to ask for something. one big ask that we made was to have the music volume turned down. Until it was, conversation was difficult. Afterwards, it was very easy to chat while we enjoyed our food. We like the concept, the menu and the execution. We will definitely be back again.

This is my go to place. Years ago I really enjoyed pepper lunch, but when I found his lunch, I never went back. Convenient with a bunch of locations is always clean. The ordering used to be from an iPad but now it is a QR code, which is super fast. The food comes out quick. The servings are plentiful and everything is fresh. The appetizers are great. You can't go wrong with literally anything on the menu. The cheese fries are a definite must when it comes to the appetizers. The staff is always friendly and I really like that they check in on you periodically. Adding more items to your order is really easy through the QR code and it makes everything super convenient.

amazing service, very nice workers. food portions are also huge and worth the price! all the workers are very nice and the food came out quickly.

Get a rice plate!! Adding cheese and mushrooms made it really good. Fun vibe of mixing up your own plate as the meat cooks. They have some teriyaki and vinegar sauces that are must adds to your plate to mix in and give it some flavor

Great, friendly, and fast service! The store is nice and spacious both inside and out. Parking is easy since it's located in a large plaza, so there's no need to worry about finding a spot. They offer a wide variety of items, but almost everything comes with an extra charge. The food is good and simple, though definitely overpriced--especially if you add toppings. My husband and I ordered the same item, except his was the "garlic spicy" version and cost a few dollars more. Why? I honestly don't know--just garlic and powder, I guess. We ended up adding more sauces from the table (which were free) to enhance the flavor, so we definitely won't be ordering that upgrade again. That said, we'd still come back since it's an easy and quick lunch spot. GOODLUCK!

First off, I have had Pepper Lunch in Milpitas and I low-key thought this was Pepper Lunch when I chose this place for a work lunch. The concept is definitely the same which is good but man I was surprised. [[ Location ]] This is a "new-ish" plaza in Fremont with a ton of parking. Beware of homeless people wandering about as I saw one near me both when I arrived and left. They are harmless but some are carrying a ton of alcohol bottles so it's a bit unsettling. [[ Restaurant ]] The place is really big and since its new, I found the establishment very clean and airy. Great place to have a meal. Ordering is all automated by a QR code on your table. [[ Food ]] If you had pepper lunch or Japanese Teppanyaki before, you basically get a sizzling plate grill with rice/meat that I usually mix up when I get it. It cooks really fast and the meal is hot and delicious. My colleague and I ordered the following: 1.) Hiyayakko Appetizer (Cold Tofu with Ponzu) 2.) Kyuuri (Japanese Cucumber with Ponzu) 3.) Garlic Beef Pepper Rice x2 Keep in mind the lunch can add up really fast as the Garlic Pepper Rice was $17.50 and each add on such as Cheese, Garlic, Onion, etc. are around $1.50 and up. Overall I thought it was good and comparable to Pepper Lunch in Milpitas. No complaints here FYI = This place stinks up your clothes/hair really quickly. I changed out of all my clothes immediately when I got home because I smelled like the restaurant.

I will always get my favorite sizzling lunch! My favorite rice dishes ever in the bay. It's a bit pricey for what it is and the prices of the extras are pricey as well. Ordered online on the phone and they serve to you. Very quick snd easy.

My husband and I came here for the second time after I was fasting for 15+ hours. We had come before which was our first time and we really didn't know what to expect. I think that we didn't order as we should have the first time. This time we both ordered extra garlic butter I added red onions, and a side of kimchi. My husband went with the spicy kimchi beef and I went with the original beef no salt. I added some shoyu garlic a little teriyaki-- after it all mixed and it was so delicious. My favorite was getting the crispy parts at the bottom. My husband really enjoyed his meal as well. We will definitely be back.

Ask the Community - Sizzling Lunch

What are glass noodles? There are different types - bean, potatoes, or rice. I hope someone from the business can tell me which type is used.

It's a clear noodle which gives it its name :) usually made of starch and water. Pretty much tasteless though, you'd probably just add it for texture to your meal.

    Is there an vegetarian options?

Yes, and our Tofu Pepper Rice is a BOOM!

    Do they take reservations?

Check in at Yelp for reservation. For parties more than 6, call us at (510)380-6365.

Can I order for to go?

Yes, we have the to-go option right now! Food will be cooked for you hot and fresh!

    Is there still a waitlist?

There is a wait list podium by the door as you enter. You can just enter your info and it'll notify you. Most of the time it's not too crowded for the wait list but it's there.

What dishes are able to be converted vegan?

Tofu Pepper Rice without the Garlic Butter is your best bet! You can also add our Curry Sauce to turn it to Curry Sauce Tofu Rice!

Are there low carb options instead of rice and noodle?

Yes, they customize their customers plate so ask for your options and they will help you with it.

    Is this dog friendly?

I don't think so. It's a pretty small place indoors.

    Do you offer takeout option?

    Not for the Fremont location

    Is there outdoor seating?

No outdoor seating at the moment.

I've had Japanese curry in Japan as well as around the SF bay area and I would say the japanese curry here is average at best. The Kaki Curry came with six fried oysters, some rice, potato salad, and a dab of sauce for the fried oysters. The fried oysters were fresh and crunchy. Overall, it was satisfying but nothing spectacular. The Shiso Mentaiko Cream Spaghetti is a cream sauce based pasta dish with roe, shiso leaves, and nori seaweed. It's an interesting twist to your popular spaghetti dish so the flavor profiles were interesting. The dish was creamy and the nori and roe brought some unami flavor. Between the two dishes, I enjoyed this one slightly more even those this place is a "curry" spot. Dish comes with a japanese cabbage salad and miso soup which tasted pretty standard.

I had my eye on the sandos, specifically the Chicken Katsu Sando, but landed on the Spicy Tuna Don instead. Good call. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare over well-seasoned sushi rice, topped with sesame, furikake, green onions, with a little radish and cucumber on the side. The tuna was very fresh, the rice was on point. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout. Paired it with their Honjozo dry sake cup, which was a nice complement to the meal and exactly the right call for a mid-afternoon bite. My other friend for a pork don with a spicy miso ramen, and I got the gyu-don with a spicy miso ramen. The food was very delicious - everything was cooked well, perfectly flavored. I like the rice plates as they come with a tiny bowl of ramen of your choice :) Overall, we would definitely come back again as we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience!

I want to preface that this restaurant is simple, no frills, and looks a little outdated when you walk in. However, the service was very friendly and the menu is pretty extensive! This location offers Japanese-style curry dishes from chicken katsu curry to fried fish curry and even offers vegetarian curry dishes as well. I also love that you can pick from a list of toppings to add to your curry. Not to mention, you can choose the spice level of your curry. Volcano offers a spice level of 1 (mild) - 4 (volcano). I ordered the fried shrimp curry with the addition of a potato croquette, spice level 2 (medium). I was STARVING and was tempted to add more toppings but didn't want to go too crazy so I could enjoy the curry itself! I also ordered a cup of miso soup on the side. I'm going to be totally honest, I was just expecting an average bowl of curry but boy was I wrong... 5/5! The food came out piping hot, to-go style, in white plastic containers. The shrimp was golden, light, crispy, and tender. The potato croquette was super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was amazed that none of the fried items were greasy whatsoever. The curry was thick, hearty, comforting and had a slight kick of spice. Accompanied with a mound of steamy, white rice, this dish was delicious and the portions very generous! The miso soup was light, umami, and broth-y. It really helped to cut the richness of the curry and fried items. I'm so happy I got to try this place and will be back to try their katsu sandos next time!

It was kind of difficult already with my husbands crutches. A wheelchair could be possible if they sit you at the very front entrance. We wanted to go because they have napolitan and we were very happy that we went. The staff were nice. They keep to themselves and check in on you just enough. There's anime on the shelves if you want to read and relax. Love that they had a warning that some of them may not be suitable for kids. They don't split bills, so heads up if you're going with multiple people. Our boys really liked their curry and katsu. They were able to make it not really spicy and it was just right for them. Napolitan was so good. The serving size was just right. At first I thought it might be too big, but because it was so good, I scarfed that thing down. This will definitely be our spot to go back to when we're in Japantown.

This was one of those places that I always passed and would think to myself "I need to stop there one of these days." Well I finally did and it was quite good. The curry I got would have been the perfect level of spice for my wife, who's fully white, but next time I think I'll go up a level or two. It was still good and full of great flavor, but I expected a bit more from the level of spiciness I got. The young guy that was helping me was very nice and attentive. There was this person visiting someone who worked there, I think she was a nurse who worked nearby, who was chatting with her friend (the other server) at such a volume I wonder if the nurse lady knew that inside voices were even an option. That was a little distracting but I don't blame my server for that. I don't care if employees at places want to chat, that's fine. Just be aware of the volume. Overall I'm very glad I went here and the food was delicious.
