    Rice Plate menu 7/2026
    Crystal L.

The location is at The Plant, around the corner from Boiling Crab. I went on Thursday for lunch and the parking lot was crowded and busy, but nothing out of the ordinary. Ordering is easy and we were greeted by very friendly staff. I ended up ordering the black pepper steak salad, siu mai, and pork soup dumplings. They gave me a number to take to the table. Condiments, to go containers and a shelf to stack reusable plates and steamers were organized and readily available. The first dish that came out was the black pepper steak rice plate. It looked good, but not what I ordered or was craving. Turnaround was quick and returned with the black pepper steak, green salad, and macaroni salad. The steak was a little on the salty side but very tender. The salad was fresh and not overly sauced. The Mac salad didn't have much flavor but a nice little carb to pair with the protein since it was a little salty. We also ordered siu mai and pork soup dumplings. They weren't bad, but they looked like the frozen ones you'd pop in the microwave. The pork soup dumplings did have soup in them and came with black vinegar and ginger. The siu mai had a strong shiitake flavor which I'm about. The inside was clean and spacious. They don't serve ramen at this location anymore. I was actually a little disappointed because I had my mind set on a steaming hot bowl today. Only their other location in Santa Rosa has ramen. The black pepper steak was salty. But staff was nice and ordering was easy and food came out fast, so I'm rounding up 3.5 stars.

    Bathroom stall door gap...

IMHO Okay, I just had to go back to Sizzling House less than a week after my first visit. After reading other Yelp reviews, I knew I wanted to try the Sizzling Steak Plate and their mushroom sauce (and I'm not a mushroom fan.) Thankfully after raving about this restaurant to another foodie friend, she wanted to try it! So off we went! I ordered the Sizzling Steak Plate w/mushroom sauce ($18.99) and a side of spring rolls, ($3.99.) My friend ordered the Teriyaki Chicken/Beef combo plate ($13.99) with a side of Kaarage chicken, ($5.99.) The kaarage arrived first with two small cups of dipping mayonnaise. She gave the mayonnaise back since she doesn't like it. In my estimation that was a mistake because the kaarage needed to be dipped into something, and we both felt it needed salt. I liked the spring rolls which were nicely crunchy and hot. I will try a different side, next time! She loved her combo rice plate and devoured the whole thing! I adored the Sizzling Steak Plate, especially the red mushroom sauce! The sauce was everything! I received 3 thin steak slices which had a line of gristle through each one. I would've preferred slightly thicker slices of meat. Maybe next time, I'll try the Sizzling Wagyu! The carrots and broccoli were cooked al dente, which I really appreciated. I don't like soggy or mushy veggies. Whoever the chef is, bravo! Yes, no brainer, I'm coming back! Great bang-for-your buck here! Side note: Why is there always a huge gap where the bathroom stall door "meets" the door lock hinge? And while I was "sitting" I could look to my right through another gap and see the hand wash sink from my vantage point... Here's my tip: if the handicapped stall is available, use it instead for more "privacy". LOL

This is a brand new restaurant that just opened up. The place is in a large shopping center that is slightly far for anyone not in South San Jose. There are plenty of parking and location is fairly spacious. It's not stuffed with tables or chairs so I do enjoy being there. The food is interesting. There are a lot of teriyaki flavored meat with rice so it has Japanese influence but it also has shrimp dumplings and other dimsum style food. I believe the owner is Chinese. The sizzling plate has only three choices however. I chose the wagyu sizzling plate with the black pepper sauce. There is also the mushroom sauce. I chose black pepper because that's the standard sauce for HK cafes. The meat is tender and they do give you a lot of rice. It also comes with corns and soy bean. It's really not bad. It's not phenomenal that I'd want to go back every week but it's decent and the price is not crazy. Service is very prompt and because it's a new restaurant fairly attentive. It's one of those semi fast food place that's priced right.

Tried this new spot in San Jose and was pleasantly surprised! We ordered the Wagyu sizzling plate, and it was delicious. It came out piping hot and fresh, and the flavors were on point. The rice paired perfectly with the Wagyu and soaked up all the savory goodness. We also ordered the soup dumplings and shumai, and both were packed with flavor. They were so good I seriously could've eaten 10 more! The staff were very friendly, and it's a great fast-casual spot if you're looking for a quick but satisfying meal. I would definitely come back again and highly recommend giving this place a try!

Sizzling House is a newer Japanese style sizzling lunch type place but they also have dumplings and a small selection of dim sum like dishes. Place is new and clean. The service is pretty fast for most of the dishes but we had to wait a while for the shrimp dumplings. Overall, the food is excellent. The Wagyu sizzle rice was delicious. We asked for black pepper sauce and they kind of overdid it, but it still had good flavor. The gyoza was also very good. They were crispy and tasty. The steamed shrimp dumplings were slightly underwhelming. I'd stick to the other items.

Sizzling Beef Steak Plate - Really good and tender! Crisp veggies. Good butter and sauce.

I ordered the sizzling steak platter to go. The steak remained surprisingly tender. The meat sat on a bed of yummy grilled onions with a delicious garlic butter. The sides included some peppered asparagus, broccoli, and carrots cooked perfectly, and I chose the mushroom sauce which was also very tasty. Easy to say I was satisfied with the meal. They have a soda machine for drinks - soda, water, lemonade. The interior is nice with clear pickup and ordering areas along with modern looking seating. The service was very friendly and helpful - they have buzzers for when the food is ready. I did see ordering kiosks as well. There is no outdoor dining, but the small park in this plaza is a cool place to enjoy your food. It's located in a popular plaza so parking varies. I think it is a great lunch option for fresh food without feeling heavy. I'd definitely come back again! Thanks!

Wagyu Sizzling Plate (after being mixed) - $20.99

My mom and I were in the area running errands and visited on a Friday around noon for lunch. The concept is simple. We placed our order with the gentleman up front and found a table to sit at. The food gets delivered to your table and you place your tray in the rack after you're done eating. We both ordered the Wagyu Sizzling Plate with Black Pepper Sauce ($20.99) and a Fountain Drink ($2.75). The dish was flavorful and the meat was tender. Even though we ordered the same thing, I did notice that my mom's hot plate was hotter than mine as hers continued to sizzle long after mine had cooled down. Her dish was also much saltier as her dish had a lot more Black Pepper Sauce. The restaurant is located right next to Poki Bowl. I was lucky enough to find parking right out front, but there is no shortage of parking at The Plant shopping center. The employees were all friendly and the interior is clean and modern.

I came at 4:00pm on the Thurs of 4th of July weekend--not busy at all. The interior was clean and spacious. The lady at the front was very kind and gave me recommendations when I was unsure. :) The wagyu sizzling plate came out quickly, and had nice bits of crispy rice and good flavor. I personally recommend getting the egg on top as it added a nice variety. Excited to try their steak sizzling plate next!

I stopped by Sizzling House recently and really enjoyed the experience. Everything is served on a hot sizzling plate, so your meal arrives still bubbling and cooking at the table, which makes it fun and keeps the food hot until the last bite. I ordered the Wagyu beef sizzling plate with black garlic sauce. The beef was tender and flavorful, and I liked that the rice soaked up all the sauce while it continued to sizzle. The garlic chips and green onions added a nice texture too. We also tried the soup dumplings, which were juicy with a good amount of broth inside. They're definitely worth ordering as a side. The restaurant was clean, spacious. Food was super affordable as well!

First, the listing for this nice restaurant does not exactly match the name above its door. The listing is "Sizzling House" but the sign and other literature read "Sizzling Dumpling House". Makes searching for it mildly confusing. Aside from that, I went to the soft opening today for lunch with my wife. I ordered pork gyoza, shrimp dumplings and three pork soup dumplings. Ordering was easy, considering the soft opening status. No glitches. The person at the counter was friendly and efficient. Our food came out in just a few minutes - perhaps even quickly - to our table in the bright and clean dining area. The decor is sort of a combo of modern Japanese, Korean and Chinese elements. The gyoza were very good. I liked the fresh taste and the nicely browned bottoms. I liked the soup dumplings - "XLBs" I suppose. They came with the classic sauce and have nice thin skins that I like. The shrimp dumplings (har gow) were good but not amazing. That said, the best one is going to find in this part of town. I like the thin skins these had vs. the doughy stuff one gets in many places. There is sriracha, soy, chili oil, katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce in bottles on the counter. The meals came with small sauce cups for our dishes as needed. My wife got the sizzling wagyu beef plate. This came out on a super hot platter surrounded by a cardboard skirt to help prevent burns and spattering. This was a very nice dish and a good value as far as quantity too. The beef was thin and tender. Fresh edamame complemented the sauce, rice and beef. I think I'd get that next time. Nice people as well as good food.

My wife and I stumbled upon Sizzling Dumpling House during their soft opening, and we were excited to try something nearby! Food (4.5 stars) + Grand opening special ($10.99) gave us a choice of three bento dishes--chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, or orange chicken. We picked teriyaki and katsu. + Chicken teriyaki had a nice char, and the kids loved it. I still prefer Sushi Town's char, but this was solid. + Chicken katsu was crispy, not greasy, with a tangy katsu sauce. We skipped the macaroni and got extra rice, which made sharing easier. + Sizzling steak hot plate ($18.99)--thin slices, served on onions, cooking as we ate. Pepper sauce was bold--adults might love it, but a bit much for kids. - The pepper sauce could be overpowering. Service/Ambiance (4 stars) +Order at the counter or touchscreen--simple and efficient. + Food comes out when ready, no waiting for everything to finish. + Clean, modern, and surprisingly spacious. We'll be back--great value with more dishes to try!

Tonkatsu ramen, with corn and green onions on the side

Disappointed that Halal guys closed at the Plant. Luckily the kids were feeling adventurous and willing to try the new sizzling dumpling house! The inside has been transformed into a beautiful and clean interior space with tons of seating options. Our family ordered the wagyu steak sizzling plate, tonkatsu ramen and dumplings. The dumplings were steamed to order and came out piping hot! A definite plus in my book. The XLB were juicy and yummy. The shrimp dumplings were basic but were prepared with a delicate wrapper! I personally wouldn't order them on our next visit. The sizzling rice had perfect black pepper sauce to rice ratio. I wonder if they had a double meat option to increase the protein. It was a bit too spicy for the kids, so we'll try the mushroom rice when we order it again. Tonaktusu ramen was standard, ramen noodles had a nice bounce to them, and the broth had a good flavor. Over all high marks since the interior is clean/sleek inside and the staff was very friendly/attentive! Edit: there were racks by the door to encourage guests to put their trays away afterwards.

Tonkotsu ramen. Good noodles, and excellent boiled egg. Tonkotsu pork quality is decent.
    Andy L.

Meat + rice plate and ramen are pretty good quality considering the area. Wagyu beef sizzling plate and tonkotsu ramen are both good. I disliked the flavor of the black pepper sauce for the Wagyu beef and will try either the mushroom sauce next time, or skip the sauce altogether. Beef rice plate comes out instantly, while the ramen takes about 5-10 minutes. The tonkotsu ramen is pretty good. Good noodles and pretty good meat quality. One of the better places to eat in the Plant plaza.

That alone should tell you something All these years later, it is still just as amazing as it was back then. Same great atmosphere, same entertaining chefs, and most importantly... the same consistently incredible food. My go-to (and it will never change) is the Genji combination--filet mignon and shrimp with bean sprouts. The filet is always cooked perfectly, the shrimp is delicious, and everything on that grill just has that flavor you can't recreate at home (trust me... I've tried ). And let's talk about the extras... The salad dressing? I would pay good money for that recipe. I've tried to recreate it more times than I can count and it's just not happening. The soup is always comforting and perfect. And ending the meal with green tea ice cream? It's the cherry on top of a perfect experience. The chefs are part of the fun--they make it an experience, not just a meal. There's something so special about sitting around that grill, watching the show, and knowing exactly what you're about to get... because it's always spot on. After all these years, this is still one of my favorite restaurants ever. Not many places can say they've stayed this good for this long. If you haven't been... you're missing out.

Because it was difficult to manage my children in that situation, I asked if I could instead order the happy hour items from our table. I was told yes, that happy hour was still available, and that I would just need to let the manager know. We were seated and waited for our server, who arrived at approximately 6:01 PM. I explained that we had arrived early and had been told we could still order from the happy hour menu. He said that would be fine but that he needed approval from the manager, Rebecca. While waiting, I could clearly hear the conversation between the server and Rebecca. Rebecca said loudly, "No, they had their chance at the bar. No, they cannot." She never came to our table, acknowledged us, or explained the decision directly. She also avoided making eye contact with us. This was very disappointing, especially since we arrived before our reservation time and only requested to order from our table because we were following the rule that children could not remain at the bar. We were simply trying to comply with your restaurant's policy while still enjoying the happy hour that we had arrived in time for. What upset us most was not only the denial, but the way it was handled. A brief conversation or explanation from the manager would have gone a long way. Instead, we felt dismissed and embarrassed. I hope you will review this situation and address how it was handled. We have always looked forward to dining at your restaurant, and I hope future guests are treated with more understanding and professionalism. Thank you

As a Redwood City local, I've always walked past this place but never ventured in until recently…read more My partner and I were curious, especially since he was craving sushi, and it was our first time seeing a hibachi. The ambience was relaxed, so there's no need to dress fancy, especially if you're heading there straight after work. We decided to split a calamari steak hibachi for $32, which included rice and vegetables (you can add chicken for an extra dollar, but we didn't order the chicken). My partner also ordered three sushi rolls for us to share. The service was excellent! Our server was friendly and attentive, and the hibachi chef put on an amazing show, making the meal a truly entertaining experience. It was a first for both of us! However, there was one significant issue. During the hibachi, everyone at our shared table received a bowl of rice except for me. When some leftover rice was offered, a group of teenage boys quickly claimed it, even though they saw I hadn't received any. My boyfriend offered to share his, but it was frustrating to feel like I had to "fight" for food that should have been included. The food was good and the hibachi was enjoyable. The sushi was decent, though I've had better, this incident left a sour taste. Despite the great service and entertainment, the feeling of having to compete for my portion really detracted from the experience. I'm tempted to give a lower rating, but the good aspects balance it out. It was an okay experience, but I don't see myself returning, as I'd prefer not to contend for my meal.

We had an entire table to ourselves and ordered different combos like steak and shrimp or steak and chicken, with sushi rolls for appetizers. Everyone had a great time. Later that night when putting my daughter to bed, she recalled that the place with the fire (Sakura) was the best and she wanted to go again tomorrow.

There's a poached egg on the rice and you can order your choice of appetizer - I got the agedashi tofu. The dressing on the salad (Ume miso) was very good and tasty, and the agedashi tofu seemed authentic and delicately prepared and subtly flavored. The yakitori itself was pretty good. The chicken was pretty standard and the beef and pork good without being exceptional. Flavor was good, just a little bit more chew on the beef and pork than ideal. Overall, satisfying meal, though not as filling as I would have liked. Service was fine and I'd come here again to try other options.

Interior decor was that of a typical yakitori, and you could see the chefs grilling skewers behind glasses. Service was friendly and very efficient. Hot tea was complimentary. We scanned a QR code at the table, made our selections, and placed our order after confirming our payment method. We closed the tab and paid online before we left. It's very convenient, and they provided quite a number of customizations/options for the various bentos and other dishes. I had an Oyako Don Set with grilled saba and shiitake dressing for the salad. My husband had a B Skewers Bento with agedashi tofu and ume miso dressing for the salad. The food came out pretty fast, and was hot and freshly cooked. My oyako don was cooked to perfection, the seasoning was on point. Portion was very generous with good chicken to rice ratio. There're a few pieces of shiitake mushroom in the bowl as well. My saba was grilled very nicely, and the best part was that there were barely any bones (just a tiny bone in the entire piece of saba!) The shiitake dressing was delicious with a little crunch. Hadn't had such an authentic and yummy Japanese lunch for a long time. My husband enjoyed his bento as well. Can't wait to come back to try other items on their menu.

Anywho, we ordered a variety of items to try: new stamina don, clam chowder croquette, kani chirashi bento, and a salmon kama bento. Regarding the food: New stamina don came with slice beef, sliced beef tongue, braised pork, poached egg, and kimchi over rice. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion. For the food overall, it was a little bit under seasoned for me but for portion, price and quality are good.

I'll admit it might have just been the specific dishes we ordered, but the food overall missed the mark. On a positive note, the service was incredibly fast and the staff was very nice! However, the food left a lot to be desired. We got the wagyu beef plate, and the meat was unfortunately chewy and heavily over-salted. We also ordered the seared salmon ikura bowl, which wasn't anything special and really lacked flavor. The bowl was quite dry, and I kept wishing it came with some sort of sauce to tie everything together. Even the shishito peppers were surprisingly bland. While I appreciate the great service, the food just didn't live up to the hype for me.
