This location is on the Historic Route 66 Highway. I'm still in search for the best New Mexico chili and trying as many locations before leaving. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros breakfast in green chili salsa at El Rancho. While dining at El Rancho, we met a group visiting from Wales, UK in the U.S. for the World Cup turns out Josh Thomas is a professional Rugby Player in Wales they were so nice. The service was great. I bought a few souvenirs and Prickly Pear candy at their gift shop. The weather in Gallup is much nicer and cooler than it was in Rosewell. Check out this near town! Happy Yelping :)

For dinner I chose the Rita Moreno with chicken, no sour cream and no beans. I got it "Christmas style" so I could try both green and red sauces. When it was brought to me the plate had beans on it and the enchiladas weren't even hot - they were barely warm. The cheese garnish on top was barely melted. I started with the red side. The sauce was very spicy (I love spice so no big deal for me). I wasn't a big fan of the flavor so I switched to the green side. The sauce had a decent amount of spice but way more flavorful IMO. The tiny rice scoop was decent, but again, all this food was barely warm. The waiter came by once to say sorry about the beans but a random hotel/restaurant guest that was muttering something incoherently prevented me from being able to get a refill of my soda. By the time the waiter checked in again I was over it and asked for my check. I guess I could say the appetiser met expectation but would have been much better had the guac been made to order. With all the hype this place got I expected more. There is a bar and a gift shop connected to it and a historic hotel where apparently come famous people stayed long ago. Since I'm not staying there and was there only for dinner I would have rather had a better meal experience and less hype. My advice is to keep looking unless you have it as a stop on your bucket/checklist.

We found this spot on Yelp and I'm so glad we stopped! We got the fry bread (sandwich) and it completely surprised us. I usually think lamb is too gamey, but this wasn't at all. When I brought it out, my husband thought it was beef at first because of how mild it tasted. The portions are huge. HUGE! One taco was seriously the size of a medium pizza and somehow we still finished it. If you're taking it to go like we did, eat it within 5 to 10 minutes so it doesn't get soggy. They also have free broth and honey inside which was such a nice touch and made it even better. Dipping the fry bread in the broth was a nice touch. Like a lighter consomé. Try it with the honey, too! We did with the remaining fry bread as a bit of a dessert. The best part though was the woman working there. She was so kind, answered all my questions, explained everything, and even gave me a magazine about Gallup. If you want something authentic and filling, definitely stop here.

Our server, Cleo was very nice and friendly. The drinks all came out tasting delicious. All of our food was cooked great. My husband noted that the appetizer sampler tasted better than usual. My dad loved the bourbon Street chicken, served on a platter similar to fajitas. We had a great experience at this Applebee's. The interior is nice, with art pleasant to the eyes. All in all, I would come back again if I were in the area on a road trip or stopping through town.

It wasn't exactly welcoming and immediately left a bad first impression. The service only got worse. Our meals were brought out at different times instead of all at once. Some of us had food while others sat waiting. Then my mother's meal never arrived at all. We assumed it was just running behind, but after waiting nearly an hour, we finally had to flag down our waitress to ask where it was. That's when we found out her order had been completely forgotten and never put in. It's common courtesy not to eat while someone at your table is still waiting for their meal, so the adults sat there while our food got cold. The only person I let eat was my daughter because she was hungry. By the time my mother's food was finally cooked and brought out, the rest of our meals were cold and the dining experience was completely ruined. No one should have to wait an hour just to discover their meal was forgotten. Between the terrible odor, food being served at different times, a forgotten order, cold meals, and inattentive service, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. Unfortunately, we won't be returning to this Applebee's.
