Terrible experience with this rental company in Lisbon/Tivoli. I rented a Mercedes S-Class and halfway through my trip the car displayed a warning that it would shut down because the AdBlue tank was empty. How does a premium rental car even leave the lot without something so essential? I lost nearly four hours waiting for roadside assistance, missed important reservations, and then was forced to pay the technician in cash for AdBlue--even though I purchased full roadside coverage with zero deductible. To make matters worse, the company later recharged my credit card for the same expense. I've emailed them several times with no response. Zero accountability, zero customer service. For a company renting "luxury cars," this was anything but a luxury experience. Save yourself the stress--rent elsewhere. read more

Beware of Sixt Rent a Car. They are attempting to charge me 650USD for a small tear to the sidewall of a tire. I am certain this did not happen on my watch as it is the kind of damage that happens in parallel parking or running too close to a curb. This did not happen. I believe it was there when I picked up the car or happened after I dropped it off. They claim I should have inspected the car before I drove off, but this tear was not visible to the naked eye, especially in the dimly lit airport garage. When I asked for a photo, they had to circle the tear in fluorescent magic marker (otherwise it couldn't be detected). They also violated their own policy because their rep is supposed to complete a "return checksheet" with the renter at the drop off point. This was never done. Warning, Warning, Warning!! This is the worst company for car rental. Stay away from these dishonest, lazy, lying, deceitful people at all costs. From someone who rarely posts reviews online: this was the worst experience ever. We rented the car and were about to leave when I noticed that the plastic cargo cover for the hatch wasn't fitting right and told the attendant. He said 'no problem' and pushed it into place. We drove the car for 3 days and used the trunk one time. No damage of any kind. We also had full coverage. When we dropped off the car, they said we have full coverage and everything is fine and we don't have to sign anything. No damage. Two weeks after the trip, we get a bill for a broken cargo cover. When I asked for proof of 'damage', they stop responding. It was also interesting that somehow the full coverage insurance, which would cover the entire car in case of a horrible accident that destroys the car including the car cover, somehow doesn't apply to this phantom made-up 'damage'. I JUST NOTICED THAT THIS IS ALMOST EXACTLY WHAT ANOTHER REVIEWER WROTE IN MAY. CLEARLY THIS IS A FRADULENT PRACTICE FOR THIS COMPANY. I have been a loyal Sixt customer since 2013 but after this incident, I will never use them again, even if they are the most convenient or cheapest. The website shows 20+ cars, but on location (after waiting 20 minutes in line) only 3 cars were available, and no convertible cars like I booked. The available cars were offered for twice the website price. I rented elsewhere, and highly urge you to do the same! This business is a complete and total scam. read more

Lies and petty cons are normal business practice at this place. On September 15, 2019 I've rented a car in this office with supposedly a full tank of fuel. After the representative Mr. Teixeira brought me the car, I've asked him a direct question if the tank was full. He said, yes, it is full. When I was ready to leave and started the engine, I saw that the tank was only 7/8 full. Ok, turn off the engine, go back to the office to Mr. Teixeira. He immediately put a hand written note on the rental agreement that the tank is at 7/8th. I felt a little upset that Mr Teixeira tried to lie to me, but feel satisfied that the problem was solved. A few days later, I've returned the car with 7/8 tank and mentioned to the car return rep that I've got the car with 7/8 tank. He said Ok. Imagine my surprise when a couple of weeks later I was charged extra 41.43 Euro plus 23% VAT for fuel and fueling service. Apparently, Mr. Teixeira neglected to add the fuel tank correction into their computer system. His signed correction on the rental agreement means exactly nothing. Needles to say, you cannot call the company, you just get put on an endless hold charged at international rate. Multiple e-mails also went into a black hole. They already have my credit card and may charge me whatever and I cannot argue with them. My advise: stay away from the whole Sixt. Read other reviews on this company. If you already made a mistake and paid them for a reservation, check every little detail before accepting the car. I'm not even talking about scratches. Make sure that both little pieces of rope that hold the luggage compartment cover in a hatch, emergency sign, yellow vest, tire puncture quick fix canister, antenna, every little piece of plastic are in place, as well as check the tank. If anything is missing, make sure a note is made not just on your rental agreement paper, but in the computer system. This is a dishonest company, and you may only have some hope not to get conned if you check every little screw in the car as opposed to be nice and agreeable to them. read more
