Well cruzing around Maui village mall today the Mall that has the iconic Tasaka Guri-guri which was closed today because it's Sunday . My wife and I wanted to have some lunch so we came across this small Chinese place . Siu's Chinese restaurant there was no one inside the restaurant. Well I find out why the hot food selection didn't look very good . Prices were reasonable 1 choice $12.50 2 choice $14.95. We both ordered Won Ton Mein because the weather in Maui was raining on and off . It look delicious in my picture but first of all it didn't have no taste I used my mustard shoyu container and dumped it inside my Saimin LOL. The noodles tasted like Somen noodles and the Won Ton didn't taste that good . Service was pretty bad as well there was a young gentleman working the counter and he had no personality at all . While we were dining we saw only 3 customers came inside . I remind you this was prime time around 1pm lunch hour . To their defense that Mall is pretty dead anyway . I don't remember their roast pork being this great for some reason but it was sure on point today. I personally love roast pork, roast duck and kau yuk. Food was decent. Chow Mein was good, orange chicken tasted well but some were chewy, chicken with eggplant was alright, and kauyuk was tender and delicious. Everything was quite pricey. A little over $20. The young man inside was friendly and attentive. Inside looked clean and food on display was presentable with some items looking good while others did not. I heard someone new took over a while ago and wanted to try it out. Craving roast pork and char siu and this was closest. Ambiance: Upon walking in, it looks exactly the same: late to early 2000's chinese take-out vibe. Homey, family-run. Service: The girl at the front was friendly, quite accommodating when I initially ordered the wrong amount (1/4 lb poke Vs 1/4 lb meat isn't as similar as I thought, haha! Unless, she misheard and gave me 1.25 lb?) In any case, quickly remedied! Food: Food on the buffet line looked like there wasn't much movement, dry, scant. I just got char siu and roast pork. - Char siu was dry. Flaky. Very mild flavor. Pieces I got had barely any char. - Roast pork: ok, not much crunchy skin. Kind of dry meat also. They take cc so a plus. In a place with heavy foot traffic, lots of parking, and tourists. There is potential to be better, reinvent perhaps. I'll call it a 3.5. My friend and I planned to grab food from Whole Foods and eat outside. We were able to nab a table in the shade, but apparently everyone had the same idea as we did, to get lunch there. The lines were ridiculously long, so we gave up and went to Suis instead. It's just around the corner from WF. The public restrooms are close by the restaurant. BTW before I get into my review: I was able to pay by credit card. This is early January 2023. This is a small family business run by friendly folks. They have a lengthy menu but also have a decent-sized offering of ready-to-go foods, including vegetarian selections. There is seating inside and a couple of tables with chairs and a few random chairs outside the "door," which isn't really a door: The entire front of the restaurant opens up to the small courtyard area. My friend and I wanted to get to the eating and talking, so we opted for the pre-made food. There is fried rice and noodles, but I skipped those for dietary reasons. I had the broccoli beef and dried string beans with chicken. I did get charged for two dishes so it ended up being a bit expensive for me, but I have to stick to my diet. I love crispy gau gee, and wanted to buy one, but it came only as a whole order, so I skipped it. There were also spring rolls. I was worried, too, about sodium levels as Chinese food tends to be high in sodium. This was not, thankfully, which is good for me since I tend to retain water. But that also means the food was a little bland. My other main criticism was there was not enough beef in the broccoli beef. It was pretty sparse. I'm sure the high cost of beef contributed to this. So I got good servings of veggies, but not enough protein for me. That evening I had to have a large influx of roasted chicken to compensate. I would like to come back sometime and try something off the menu, and have some crispy gau gee and spring rolls (even though I really shouldn't, diet-wise). ATMOSPHERE: Siu's is still in the Maui Mall and hasn't been renovated in years, though it's still in good shape and pretty clean (out front, anyways). They have a hot line of premade food or you can order off the menu. Most of the business is takeout so eating in is very enjoyable as it's not crowded. I'm definitely coming here for lunch more often! One table is reserved for the staff that's cluttered with junk, but who cares! FOOD: Black Bean Chicken This is available on the hot line, either part of a combo plate or by itself in small or large boxes. It's absolutely delish and loaded with veggies (green peppers, zucchini, onions, carrots, and mushrooms) stir fried in a savory gravy with lots of black bean flavor. Heavenly over rice. House Cake Noodles - $12.95 Since my last update years ago, I've been on the hunt for a better version, but no one can top theirs. While the amount of cake noodles could be a tad bit more, theirs has the most traditional flavor and crunch. The thick, savory gravy is chock full of won bok, canned mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, chicken, and two shrimp. Definitely eat this in the restaurant as opposed to takeout as it tastes best hot from the kitchen, like how ramen does. I cleaned the whole plate and wanted to lick it clean but there were others around!? Beef Broccoli Another hot line item, it's hard to find a version as good as my dad used to make, but theirs comes closest. All I ask is for tender beef, crunchy and fresh broccoli, and a tasty gravy. Check, check, check! SERVICE: A vast improvement here as I've been greeted and thanked the last few times. Today, I was even given a follow-up shout of "Your cake noodle almost done"! Yes! OVERALL: Food improved and service better. Sure, I'm longing for dim sum, chicken feet, look funn, pork hash and what not, but this is Maui where there's a lack of Chinese restaurants. It's fast food Chinese takeaway. I didn't expect much but wow. It was pretty much inedible. I ordered pork fried rice which had to be made from scratch supposedly. The plain fried rice in the case looked like it had been there all day or longer so i was ok with that. And also got the sweet n sour pork (which came from the case). I came back 15 min later and picked up my order. Got home and to my surprise the fresh fried rice was nothing more than the fried rice from the case with a few pieces of pork thrown in. It was nothing fried rice. It was sticky rice with some soy and veggies in it. flavorless and had been sitting so long it was clumped up and crusty. in no way had that rice ever been in a wok. read more

I ordered one scoop of fried rice and one scoop of white rice but the fried rice was as bland as the white. The Kung Pao chicken wasn't spicy. The Stringed Beans with chicken was very average. I ordered 2 pieces of gaugee or won ton and the portion was insulting, there was literally only a 1/2 an oz of pork each, it was more like a won ton chip! Service was good. During my recent stay in Maui, I discovered this little gem in Maui Mall while shopping at the nearby Whole Foods. Saw the roasted pork belly. Asked for and was given a taste of the roasted pork belly with crispy skin. It was right on. The pork was nicely seasoned, tender and moist. The skin was delicately crispy, and the rendered fat that's typical of this traditional Cantonese BBQ-style meat dish was a perfect blend with the meat and crispy skin. For those not used to the rendered fat, you might be critical of this dish. But for those who are used to authentic Cantonese BBQ-style meats, this crispy skin roasted pork belly is delicious. I ordered a small, pint-sized container to go for $15.95 plus tax. It was packed full and well worth it. I will definitely be coming back for more of this during my future stays in Maui. read more

While working on Maui yesterday, I was feelin' Chinese so I made my way to the Maui Mall, and gave Siu's Chinese Kitchen a try. Most times when you go to a restaurant and you see that it's busy, that's a good sign...........and in Siu's Chinese Kitchen's case, it was packed yesterday with people eating inside, as well as a few people who came by to do take out. It appears that on Maui, there's not much choices for Chinese food...............but if you're tired of the usual Panda Express Chinese, then Sui's is a great alternative. Located inside Maui Mall, it's just a hop, skip, & jump away from the theaters in Maui Mall. Sui's Chinese Kitchen is a small restaurant with just 6 tables with bench seating, and the set up of the restaurant is like your typical Panda's Express, where you walk up to the counter to order your food, then upon getting your food, you look for an open table to sit down to eat. I've passed by this restaurant a few times when I go to Maui Mall, but never tried their food until yesterday. Upon walking into the restaurant, I was greeted my an elderly lady. Looking over their hot pre-made items, I decided to get a 3 item plate which consisted of - Noodles, Roast Duck, & Chicken with mixed Vegetables. As a bonus, the nice lady gave me a few pieces of Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork). What can I say about the grindz? You know, for a small mom & pop joint............the food here was quite tasty, and pretty good! The 3 items I got, all were delicious! Good texture on the noodles, and the taste of the noodles was delicious! The roast duck had a nice crispy skin, and the duck was very flavorful. This little place is in the Maui Mall. They have very friendly staff & lots of choices. I got their noodles, they were soft & good but could have used more sauce. The broccoli beef was delicious-meat was tender broccoli not soggy but slightly crisp. The sweat & sour pork was crunchy & delicous. There are a few bench/tables in their small restaurant, but I suggest to take your food & sit in the mall outside on one of the swinging benches or chairs & enjoy people watching while eating their delicous food. read more

Of all the times that I visit this restaurant I never wrote a review so here it is at last lol. This restaurant has so much items on their menu it really makes you take literally a good 5 minutes to decide what you want. They have items you can choose off of the menu board and they also have hot and ready to eat food as well. My family and I usually get the hot and ready to eat food being that it's right there staring at you making your decision difficult because you want to eat it all haha!!! It's a family owned restaurant and it's ran by a husband and wife team. They are really pleasant work quickly together. My family and I ordered 2 choice plates, comes with your choice of fried rice, chow mein noodles, and 2 entree items of your choice. They do give really decent portions and I find that their chow mein noodles is the best compared to Panda Express and a few other local Chinese restaurants here. And of course I did have the chance to try their crispy cake noodles and it is delicious!!! They also sell those sesame balls that are filled with sweet black beans! So yummy!!! This is literally like one of two Chinese eateries on the island aside from Pandas and L&L, if that counts. It's decent. Some days are better than others as far as coming in when the food is fresh. But the business is consistent which keeps the food hot and fresh for the most part. I'm in love with their noodles and the broccoli in their beef broccoli is always so delicious! It's an oldie but still a goodie making yummy food! One of the few places that has roast pork and like the only place that serves duck. The beverages are a little pricey but there's always free cup of water or grab a beverage from Longs. There's about 6 tables but now that the mall had a little remodel, there's even more seating outside if it's full! Don't forget to try a Jin dui. They have azuki and coconut. Omg I almost forgot to mention their suuuuper crispy and full gau gee! They don't skimp and have mastered that craft! read more

Its been years since I've gone to Siu's. I was on Maui for the day yesterday and wanted to have Crispy Gau Gee Mein. Now the veggies with shrimp and char siu was prepared in a gravy consistent to what chow mein should be. The noodles however, was cooked in a totally different sauce. It was salty and tangy and nowhere close to tasting like how chow mein noodles are supposed to taste. Some say its Hong Kong style but when you mix two different sauces together on one dish, didn't go together at all. The noodles they used were not chiw mein noodles and I was fine with that after the initial shock wore off. But the taste. . .totally not what I expected. That was not Crispy Gau Gee mein. read more

Sad to say that Siu's has changed both owner and chef. We have so few Chinese restaurants on Maui, it's a real loss. The food is below mediocre. The once staple for every party on Maui, the crispy gau gee is now sold with only half the filling and a hair away from being burnt. I think the oil is not changed often enough. To really end this gau gee, the once thick and gooey sauce is now a watery "something". All the meat in the different entrees is cut so small, it looks unappetizing and the taste, so disappointing. We always ordered sides of duck, char sui and crispy roast pork but the all 3 meats looked dried and again, cut in "too small" pieces. We lament this loss. read more

The owner is super super rude every time we go, now she PREFERS CASH only but she has a debit card machine as other workers take it with no problem,but when the owner is working she will ask "do you have cash?", I said why you have the debit machine that's cash "oh but I prefer cash" okay well give me my card back and keep your food. Hands down the best chow mein and roast duck on the island. With the rising cost of things they are now taking cash only. Which I understand considering everytime a card gets swiped the credit card company charges the business. This place didn't deserve a star. The food was horrible and old. We had the duck, orange chicken, fried rice, noodles, katsu chicken, and 1 drink for $27 for 3 orders. The other reviewer was right. Service is just as bad as the food. I asked for extra napkins and the owner gave me a very angry look. At least the horrible food matched the bad service, so I don't feel bad with this review. I had a stomach ache eating here but no food poisoning, so I'm very thankful. I'm very lucky to be alive after eating at Siu's!! Seriously, we will never return because of sanitary issues. It's filthy and who knows how they prepare their food. Maybe, the flies led me to eat here because I can't figure out how I ended up wasting my money here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Went to visit for lunch with a friend yesterday. First off I should say that "we" greeted the counter help when they finally looked at us waiting in line. As if they were too busy talking to eachother that they had "no time for us" should have been my first clue! Not friendly at all. Once we received our food the owner was standing in the middle of the aisle talking to another staff member of the restaurant and would not move, so we had to walk around the other way to get to the table. The back table was covered with personal items and looked as if they lived in the restaurant. We sat and watched people come in and out and the counter help did not greet anyone, as the line got to about 4 people and the owners sat in the corner booth and did nothing to help but kept talking to each other. If you notice everything has a price tag written on it and left out in the open. The drinks were very expensive and when we were done eating we asked for a bag for our meals and they wanted to charge us $.25 for a bag! Seriously! A bag that you got for $.02 and now selling it for $.25? Had this horrible feeling that this food was cooked with NO CARE OR CONCERN of who was eating it and only care was for $$$$$! I wanted to go to the Thai restaurant next door, but it was closed at the time so I settled for this place. I've had a lot of mediocre chinese food but this place takes the cake- the food was clearly old, congealed and carelessly prepared. They should be ashamed of the quality! I got a general sense that nobody gave a crap about the sad state of the restaurant. The tables were dirty and what seemed like the owner and his family were camped out in the back booth with a mountain of junk. This place just seems to be thriving off of foolish cruise ship passengers who don't know any better and the occasional mistake - maker (me). Had lunch here yesterday and ordered the two item combo of char su pork and duck with fried rice. The duck was good (moist and very lightly salted), but the server gave me some simply horrendous pieces. In fact they tried to hide the bad pieces below two or three decent pieces on top. I think they did this because I was one of the first to order the duck and they wanted to save the good pieces (the breast part) to entice customers arriving later. Not cool. Although I know many chinese places are notorious for this. The char su was okay, but the sauce was too think and some of the pieces were 80% fat. The rice was probably the best thing on the plate, but did not make up for my disappointment with the other items. Needless to say I think they could have done a lot better than what I was served and at $7.95 for a two item plate, I expect much more. read more
