A generous 3* because the idea is right, but the execution falls flat. Dublin badly needs a decent casual Japanese. This isn't it. Service was great, but the food was not. My heart sank when they brought out the (watery) miso soup ahead of the appetizers. It was over at that point, but still it went downhill from there. Kara-age was ok, but it's hard not to get that right. It is not that hard to get rice right either, but they messed it up. Lukewarm and undercooked, and of questionable age and/or provenance.
The restaurant has an open kitchen, which should be a feature but should probably be reconsidered. Chaos and tempura batter all over the place. Izakaya kitchens are often cluttered but generally well organized. This kitchen was a mess. Really looked like the cooks just couldn't give a damn about their kitchen or the product.
