Maybe I shouldn't give it 5 stars quite yet: I like to ship, but have yet to sip. I've been in twice in the last couple of months to return packages that were also sent with convenient return labels (you know, the shipping costs will just be deducted from your return total, hum-dee-dum). Fantastically quick & easy-- toss it on the counter, they check just to make sure all your ducks are in a row, then thank you & send you on your way. It doesn't get any easier. I will kindly take this any day over a hellish wait in the post office, UPS, or Fed Ex/Kinko's store. There isn't much worse than standing for 20 minutes in an excruciatingly slow line while balancing awkward boxes in your arms. When I have gone in, there was no person in line before me. There was also parking right in front on Market St.-- sucky if during the day because in theory you should be paying for a parking sticker, but I say if it's just a quick drop off, run like the wind and keep it under the time it takes for the meter maid to tag yo' ass. The next time I go, I think I'll actually try out the coffee-- it IS pretty convenient not to have to make an additional stop for your fix. Last time I was there, an elderly couple was sitting at a table by the window, sipping and reading the paper. That means it's better than Denny's, right?? read more

I love this business! Its so much more convenient to pull up out front of the sip & ship that it is to try and find parking at, around, or within bus distance from the post office. Every time I've been in here, the service has been stellar. I always get my letters mailed off promptly, and my packages shipped the right way, the first time. Conveniences are everything. I was charged 15$ for shipping - it was a very simple box and took a week to ship. Nah, this place should stick to stamping letters and coffee. Oh yeah, so you can wait in long lines, interact with surly clerks with bad breath and be reminded (because you obviously forgot!) that there is a place in Ballard called The Sip & Ship. This place is an oasis of feel-good friendliness and rock star customer servce - every neighborhood should have one. Heck, I don't even live in Ballard and I make a special trip once a week just to stop in, have a coffee, browse and bask in its warm glow. The Sip & Ship is like a well-oiled machine. It's like an old-time general store updated for the 21st century and owned by the coolest family in town. They hire super-smart, super-cute staff; they stock their shelves with super-cool gifts and cards and t-shirts and hats - basically, if you need a gift for any occasion, The Sip & Ship is a sure bet - seriously! They are serving up some killer panini sandwiches, all kinds of drinks, coffee, pastries and, when it's hot outside, they've got soft-serve ice cream! This is an amazing store. I rent a mailbox there and stop in a few times a week. The staff is fabulous. Diana, Heather, Paul, Miles, Nathan...I am forgetting some names, but everyone who works there is great! Friendly and incredibly helpful - they always offer to help me bring my stuff to the car and they are so nice to my daughter, they always have a few extra sheets of bubble wrap for her to play with :-) Best of all, they have an upstairs kids area are with toys and books, so you can sip your coffee and relax, while your kid plays with the toys. The coffee is also fabulous. I love the things they have for sale - spa products, stationary, and great kids presents. Oh yeah, the shipping is super easy too!! read more

I love this place. The staff are all super nice and helpful. This is a one-stop-shop for me: I send packages, pick up their lovely and unique (if a bit pricey) greeting cards, and can get an iced tea too if in the mood. Staff will tell you the various speed/cost options for your packages, and the few times I had to wait in line I was given a free coffee certificate for my trouble. They also accept bags of those horrible styrofoam peanut things that inevitably come as packing even though I thought everyone in the world agreed that styrofoam is nowhere. So, it's nice to have a place to take them where they will be reused. If you're into the winter holidays, this is also the place for 1/2 off holiday cards and wrap (Xmas and Hannukah, as well as New Year items are all present and accounted for usually). DO NOT BE FOOLED, this shipping service is simply a bold-faced rip-off. I believed them when they assured me that paying a premium (significantly more than directly with the US postal service) to send a package to Europe would mean I could track the package more easily. The link they sent me for tracking led nowhere. So I called the shop, and I was told matter-of-factly that "it's the driver's responsibility to scan the tracking number and he must have forgot." Oh, really? And no apology or offer of a refund. NEXT TIME I will just go directly to the USPS, where I can then track the number on THEIR website, and NOT pay a shop to do what they then turn around and NOT do. Far and away my favorite coffee shop in town- I spend an inordinate amount of time here with a good cup of coffee and the free wifi, or to get a few copies made. Quick service, highly entertaining staff, great coffee, and killer sandwiches- I couldn't ask for more. Definitely an interesting setup with the two-floor layout, which has always made it endearing to me as a great place to hunker down for a morning or afternoon with a book or a laptop. Whether I'm looking for a quiet cup of coffee or a spot for a client meeting, it tends to be the right choice to show up here. The t-shirts, notebooks, and a variety of other entertaining stuff around the lower floor make for great local gift ideas- I've gotten great responses from family and friends receiving it, at the very least, even if I don't sport a Ballard or Greenwood hoody myself. read more

I love the concept of Sip and Ship and have been using them since I moved to Ballard three years ago. But, I have issues. First, the drink service can be slow. Twice I've order while I'm getting the shipping stuff together and by the time I'm done my coffee order still isn't ready. And it's not because they are busy. One time I was forgotten and the barista was nowhere to be found. The other time the barista was too busy chatting away with a customer and was annoyed when I had the gall to ask if my order was going to be taken care of soon. Maybe the mom n pop local friendly atmosphere doesn't sit well with me when I'm just trying to get things done. My other beef is the prices. The markup on shipping costs is too much for me to justify. If I absolutely have to do UPS I usually bite the bullet. But never with Postal service. Especially since there's a post office a few blocks away. But you pay dearly for convenience. The "Ballard" t-shirts and sweatshirts are also really overpriced. I like the gift items and cards that they sell. Whoever does purchasing has a great eye for design. I've purchased many well-received gifts from Sip and Ship. I read more

I had to apply for a French student visa for this coming semester and ran into multiple problems along the process, and Sip &a Ship on more than one occasion saved the day for me. I had to send some ID photos that had gotten lost in the mail that I had sent while travelling this summer, and they very kindly were able to help me send these photos off to Paris as quickly as possible. They also compared the prices of different senders for me so I could get the best deal possible. I also bought a next day shipping package from them to have my passport with my visa sent back in it. It's a cute place and all, with some adorable overpriced gift shop and reasonably priced coffee, but when I can do flat rate shipping at the post office 2 blocks away, I was shocked to pay $9 for them to put a small parcel in a used box and then offer $40-$36 to ship this small parcel around Christmas (not to arrive before Christmas mind you and it's 7 days away.)I almost took my ridiculously expensive box when I spoke about flat rate shipping and "suddenly" a $17.99 option became available. My fiancée and I visited sip & ship on March 16th when we were running around Ballard trying to find a place to notarize our marriage application. We had just found out that our wedding venue had to cancel our wedding that was supposed to happen on April 18th (due to COVID-19 restrictions) and we were hoping to get our marriage license fast so we could still get married before any potential stay at home orders or travel restrictions were announced. My parents live in Hawaii and we wanted to make sure they could be at our small family ceremony. Anyways, we got to talking with the gentlemen and young lady telling them our situation and how we were dealing with a cancelled wedding but still hoping to be able to get married with our families present. They were so empathetic and kind, they notarized our wedding application for no charge and raised our spirits amidst our wedding being cancelled. I recommend sip & ship for any of your postage needs, they are sincere people who care and will take great care of you. I love sip and ship! Great place to send packages. The wait is never as bad as the post office. They ship UPS, FedEx, and USPS. Their system remembers me and my addressees, which makes things so much easier. And, you can get a cup of coffee while you wait for your package to be processed. Service is always friendly. I'm a sipper, not a shipper. Really, I cannot remember the last time I shipped a package, but I certainly remember the last time I drank coffee. Sip & Ship is a stone's throw away from my new digs, so the cute little shop has been fulfilling my coffee needs. Fortunately, I'm not just limited to sipping. 1 star for the friendly and helpful staff, -4 for the owner's policies. I had a terrible experience trying to print some documents here. The owner apparently knows nothing about security, IT, computers etc. The owner is under the impression that customers with USB thumb drives are trying to infect Sip & Ship with some sort of "security breach" (sic). So since I was not allowed to put my thumb drive into their computer to print, I was asked to email my document to their Gmail-based address, WHICH THEY WOULD THEN OPEN ON THE SAME COMPUTER I WASN'T ALLOWED TO USE. Irony much? Anyway once I sent my password protected document (my tax return blank forms) to their Gmail address, the owner wouldn't allow me to input the PDF password because "anything to do with passwords or security we can't allow" which of course makes absolutely no sense. So I left without being able to print, or give them any of my money. A big lose-lose for all involved. (Plus who uses Gmail when they have their own web domain? A sure sign of tech incompetence). I've never actually been to Sip & Ship, but I wanted to give this place the "what up" because I went to Ballard to send a fed ex the other day, and --forgetting it existed -- sent it from Kinko's down the block. After going through 30 minutes of the usual bullshit you have to deal with at Kinko's, I stepped outside and walked right by this place. [Stands in middle of sidewalk, smacking forehead repeatedly, yelling: "Stupid, stupid, stupid." Passersby avoid eye contact. ] Kinko's is kind of the epitome of evil, non-independent business, and it's always a suck fest in there. Chiming in to agree with the total niceness and friendliness of the staff. I kind of hate going to the post office, because it is crowded, there's a long wait, and post office employees usually look annoyed. At Sip & Ship, you hop in line (if there is one), ship your items while simultaneously being offered an espresso beverage (and anyone who offers me espresso is surely looking out for my well-being), and get the whole thing done without dealing with the oppressive atmosphere of most US Post Offices. I am recently on the lookout for kidfriendly coffeehouses, and I had heard good things about this place...so, today, I actually had to mail some things....and I needed coffee....and to get out of the house on such a dismal day. I was happy that I decided to venture to S & S. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly, assisting me as I fumbled my million bags, son and stroller. I love this place! They have been fantastic about helping me when I have been in a panic about shipping something. They take care of everything for me, making sure that whatever I am shipping gets where it needs to go intact and on time, and they do it all with a smile! And everything is stored in their computer, so I don't have to write out the addresses for people I ship to repeatedly. Plus they have neat little gifts and things available for purchase in the shop, and tasty drinks and treats, so when I'm not in a mad rush, this is a fun place to browse. I cannot say enough good things about Ballard Sip & Ship. They have a weird, fun business model that is successful in all respects. The staff makes shipping multiple bulky packages a breeze. They have the best selection of cards anywhere, and so many adorable gifts and products from local businesses. I've also never had a sub-par drink from their espresso bar. But beyond just the success of their business model, I have to mention the customer service. I generally come in with my twins in a stroller, and the staff unfailingly opens the door for us, helps me gather my stuff, and even holds a baby or two while I get it together! It feels like the quintessential neighborhood business, a place that you trust and want to give your business to. read more
