I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!! The story behind it and the woman who runs it was so sweet. She is a social-worker turned chef, and it feels like she has really opened her home for guests. We went for a charity event where for the price of your ticket you got unlimited apps, fun drinks (nonalcoholic too! like hibiscus!), wine making explanation, participating in grape cutting, dinner, wine, dessert. I was so full by the end! We started with appetizers on the first floor, which was very cozy with couches - very much like a living room. I'm not even sure what the appetizers were but they were really good. There was also hibiscus tea and a lime drink (I can't remember the name). After that, we spent some time in the backyard which honestly didn't even feel like Chicago. It was a warm night, there are fairy lights all over, and the entire place is covered in grape vines! The grapes grown here are used to make their very own Sinha wine! We brought scissors and got to experience the process of wine making. I was worried that there might not be a ton of options for me as a vegetarian but I was so wrong! There were beans without pork, rice, greens, corn, plantains, okra, cheese bread balls, marinated mushrooms, beets, and more! They use in season veggies a lot, and everything was seasoned well. It was a serve yourself buffet and then we sat at long tables, which was a really good opportunity to get to meet new people. What a fun, unique, and delicious dining experience! I recently went to a private lunch here and had my expectations exceeded by the experience. Before I talk about the food, I have to make a mention of the very cool venue. This is decorated wall to wall with lots of elegant items, making guests feel like they're in a unique spot away from the normal hustle and bustle of the city. The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful, and make everyone feel like they're family. This is especially true of chef Jorgina Pereira, who did an amazing job of explaining all the different dishes that we were eating. Pricing for what you get isn't bad at all, considering the extra care taken for procuring fresh quality ingredients and the preparation involved in creating beautifully plated items both at an individual and tray level. I thought everything from the variety of colors of the ingredients to the fruit and vegetable art to nicely selected array of dishes made this a truly special experience. Though I'm not as familiar with Brazilian cuisine as much as others, the fresh ingredients with clear flavor profiles and use of delicious herbs & spices made me an instant fan. After this experience, I feel the need to add this cuisine into my regular rotation as the meal felt relatively healthy despite being very flavorful. One of the surprising things about the meal is how good the sides were. These were clearly not an afterthought as the black beans had an incredible amount of flavor when mixed with beef and pork, like an elevated chili. The basmati rice was infused with a delicious vegetarian both which also mixed well with the vegetarian black bean. The garden salad was presented in a very nice way and the pasta salad was quite flavorful. The brazilian top sirloin (Picanha) is probably one of the best I've had in the area. Surprisingly tender and super flavorful with a lot of grilled onion flavor. The shredded marinated pork butt (roupa velha) was another standout item for me that was slow cooked in a delicious sauce. The portobello mushrooms were grilled perfectly and the mix of coconut milk, sesame oil, and scallions really elevated the dish. I do enjoy mushrooms quite a bit and thought that this was one of the best preparations I've ever had. The chicken a la sinha is chicken tenderloin sauteed with wine and herbs. I really liked the balance of this dish and found that the herbs really stood out and flavored the chicken perfectly. I think based on the many items I tried, you can safely try any entree and enjoy it. The sweet items I tried were also delicious. The coffee is intense and the addition of cinnamon really made it even more delicious. The hibiscus tea was also very refreshing and went well with the entrees. The red velvet with flan was a delicious cake that was very moist as well. The passion fruit mousse was one of my favorite items, just as good as the desserts I enjoyed on cruises. Overall, delicious food and worth a visit if you are looking for something unique, something elegant, or something delicious. You'll fortunately be able to meet all of those needs at the same establishment by dining here. read more

My first time at Sinha definitely won't be my last! I tried it for lunch with a friend and was immediately blown away by the immaculate space with so much attention to detail and comfortable seating. As for the food, it was incredible! I had the special, which was oxtail, and I finished every last bite, despite already being full from the all-you-can-eat sides! For dessert, we had passionfruit mousse and coffee. Our server was so kind and even showed us different parts of the space, which were equally gorgeous. Food is dynamite. 5 stars!!!! Came here for the a birthday brunch celebration. We had a 2pm reservation. Well two parties with similar names booked for the same day which created quite a busy restaurant. The owner made due but it was chaotic. Too many people in this restaurant, made service a bit difficult. I was able to try appetizers and enjoyed the cheese tray sampler. Also enjoyed the tortillas chips and fresh made salsa. For the main meal, so many items to choose from. The main buffet is located on the bottom level. When it was our turn, we moved to the lower level to grab our plate. So many plentiful items. For food the standouts were the sausage, rice/beans, pasta, steak, deviled eggs, shrimps and greens. Other items were good but these were tasty. No complaints on the food whatsoever. I missed out on the fish and that makes me sad. I would love the option to purchase a plate to go so I could savor the dishes that I really love. That sausage (beef and pork) was really fantastic. I would definitely come back here. I had heard about this establishment before visiting and really want to give it another shot. I know that I can give this place a solid 5 stars. Be mindful that the outside area may not be great in Fall/Winter season. The place is BYOB so bring a beverage unless you are content with the Hibiscus Tea, which was flavorful. Amazing & unique experience, hosted by a lovely & charming chef. It feels like you're eating at grandma's house. I brought 2 friends and my boyfriend to Sinha, 2pm on a Sunday and they all loved it. When you arrive, you're brought into the living room area of a house and given small, delicious appetizers - cheeses, jams, rye crackers, salsa, and small empanadas. It feels like a family party. Later, a host corrals people and brings them either to the downstairs and garden seating - both very charming & cozy - where we're taken to choose from a wide assortment of meats & sides buffet style. There are tons of options, and lots of meat. The food was fantastic. After the meal, they offered us coffee, 2 types of dessert, and we all played spanish bingo. Finally, the host took us out to see the garden and we drank coffee and enjoyed that for a bit. Such a cozy & delicious experience - I'd recommend to everyone. This is a really nice place. It's actually in a typical two flat city apartment converted into a restaurant. It's very inviting and decorative. There is outside seating and in the basement there is seating as well. The main floor appears to be a waiting area. There you can help yourself to water, hibiscus tea (cold) and chips with homemade salsa. There is also bread and cheese. I went for a birthday brunch, there was about 20 of us. We were all seated in the basement. It was nice in the basement, nicely decorated as well. The brunch was Buffett style. Lots and lots of food. We had rice, beans, collard greens, shrimp, beef, lamb, ribs, quail eggs, asparagus, sweet potatoes, and so much more! I had a sample plate basically where I tried all the types of meat, and shrimp, and several sides. Everything was full of flavor, and cooked perfectly. Hey Everyone! Happy Spring! It has been a while since I posted a review. (Life has been Lifing.) But I AM BACK, and am very excited to write this review! Sinha, Oh What An Experience! A hidden gem on the Westside of Chicago, well, it may not be so hidden now. This past Memorial Day weekend, it was Sunday in the late afternoon. A group of old college friends and I decided to have dinner at this unique Brazilian style restaurant that we have never been to before. From the Instagram posts, it mimicked a bed and breakfast set-up. We thought this was interesting and ventured to see what the buzz was all about. The moment we got there, guests of the restaurant emerged seemingly happy, satisfied, and needing a nap! "Ok, it's starting to look promising!" Once we entered the residence, we were met by a family style living room and dining area with Brazilian charcuterie boards and hibiscus drinks to pass the time and servers passing around hor dourves/appetizers. We were able to connect with other guests and enjoy each other's company. Everyone was friendly, and when it was time for the main course, we entered into another dining area that made you feel like you were at one of your relative's houses with elegant dinnerware. Oh, this place is Fancy! Before we ate the owner, Ms. Jorgina Pereira, took special time and care to explain the dishes she prepared and what was on the menu. It was buffet style and was DELICIOUS! They had options for everyone, including those who are Vegan. However, I am not. So, I stuck with what I knew.........Meat and everything in between! Everything was all you can eat. Therefore, it was worth the dollars that you spent. But the food wasn't the only items that were worth the money. I give this restaurant 5 Stars because of the entire atmosphere and the way that it made me feel. The owner interacted with all the guests. We played a game together. We cracked jokes. We took pictures. We had fun. We felt welcomed. We felt like we were with family. We felt at home! And you know the saying, "There's No Place Like Home." I LOVED every minute of it! Overall Thoughts: Sinha is one of the most unique and intimate dining experiences I've ever had. I went for the Sunday 2-hour, all-you-can-eat buffet at 4pm, which I called 2 weeks in advance to reserve. Everything takes place in Chef Jorgina's home, beginning with communal appetizers on the ground floor. Later, everyone is seated downstairs around tables arranged according to party size, where the buffet and desserts are served. The service is so warm and absolutely top-notch. Chef Jorgina prepares a full, impressive feast every time. The food was overall delicious with many hits (all the yuca, veggie, plantain, bean dishes) and some misses (some of the more meaty dishes). For $49 total including tip/tax, it was worth it considering the sheer quantity and quality of food and the level of care, detail, and warmth that goes into the service and preparation. Please Do not give the tips to Georgina the Owner of this Brazilian restaurant. My friend was working for some years, and she told me all the internal violations that the Owner does for her employees: a) She does not give the tips to the workers B) Because some workers do not have documents, she pays them lower of the salary minimum and experience inhuman conditions, for example Do not allow them to go to the bathroom. C)Another example, one day the office staff of the Lisa Madigan (Daughter of Michael) rented the restaurant for private party that finished until 2 pm) when the party was over, Lisa and her staff left an important number of tips for the workers, but the Owner did not give anything to the employees. This was a normal, but illegal, practice of the owner. D)There are another example... My friend proves me all these violations with the workers and some unhealthy violations. In some cases, the food is delicious, but the cost and suffering of the workers are high. If you want to appreciate the service, please give the tips directly to the workers, mostly to the workers who you may see are working without documents, but with dignity. They are who more suffer this kind of modern slavery in this Brazil Sinha restaurant. I hope remove this advice. Please, believe it was real this injustice and some more. Thanks. read more

I took my mom to Sinha for Mother's Day buffet. I chose this place due to the positive reviews. All of us left happily stuffed with an amazing meal prepared by Chef Jorgina Pereira and her amazing staff. Chef Jorgina is the proprietary owner and chef of Sinha Elegant. The overwhelmingly 20+ dish Brazilian buffet spread is lovingly prepared by the chef and trained staff. On the weekends there are two timeslots (2 and 4pm) for the buffet. We were running a few minutes late due to traffic but chef and the team were able to accommodate us despite the delay. As soon as we got street parking, we entered up the stairs to the elegant home of the chef's 1st floor salon for appetizers and boy were there plenty! Cecelia, a friend of the chef, did an amazing job as hostess for the afternoon being engaging and friendly. When it was time for our meal, Cecelia led us downstairs to the main dining area and introduced us to Chef Jorgina. Chef was soft spoken and humble. Prior to starting, chef explained the content and history of the many traditional Brazilian dishes on the menu and I'm glad she did because a good portion of the food tried were firsts for many of us. I've never had Feijoada, Farofa and Chicken Bobo before and I left loving it. The flavors and textures of Brazilian style food are new to my palette. Chef Jorgina's food is truly unique. Pairing her food with the opportunity to dine in the chef's home felt special and personal. Her food pretty much speaks for itself. My review doesn't do it justice. She recently won this year's Jean Banchet for Best Alternative dining in 2022 and is very much deserving of this award. During warmer months, seating is expanded to the outdoors. She also does catering if you're looking to host a special event. All in all, we left happy, and our experience exceeded expectations. read more

I went to this place once: I love it and I want to go back. It is such a cozy, homestyle brazilian dining experience that really sells something you can't get anywhere else in the city. The meal starts with apps in the owner's living room basically (and they load you up with food!). For years, several friends had recommended that I go to Sinha for some Brazilian food. Only recently during Chicago Restaurant Week did I finally get to go to the restaurant. This is not like going into a brick and mortar establishment. This is going into someone's home. That created an atmosphere of intimacy and familiarity that, of course, is not present when dining at a restaurant. We started out having fruit and hibiscus juice on the second floor. There was bit of mingling before dining, if that is your thing. For the main dining experience, we sat on the ground level where the tables were prepared. There was a mix of dishes prepared with inspiration from traditional Brazilian dishes. There was feijoada, which is a platter of rice, steamed collard greens, black beans, and farofa. For those who wanted meat, which is cooked with the beans, there was the accompanying meat on the side that could be added. There was cabbage that had a nice kick to it from peppers that had been added. Instead of bobó de camarão (shrimp in a coconut and yucca gravy), they served bobó de frango (chicken in a coconut and yucca gravy). I had shrimp with celery, pickled whole okra, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and plantains. As to dessert, there was a slice of red velvet cake that had something of a flan baked atop it with a small cup of passion fruit custard. My pre-pescatarian self probably would have indulged the meat dishes more, but I omitted the beef and pork that would have gone into the feijoada, the chicken in the coconut and yucca dish, and the steak. For anyone who is thinking churrascaria, this is not of the lazy buffet variety that you get at Fogo de Chão, Sal & Carvão, and Texas de Brazil. It's traditional Brazilian food that is very prevalent in Bahia. Having spent time in Brazil and also having gone to several small Brazilian restaurants dotted throughout Chicago, I did find the food preparation to differ only slightly from Brazilian dishes I have eaten in the past. That was not problematic because some of the small adjustments in recipes allowed for sampling certain menu items with a twist. What made it enjoyable is that since not everyone cooks exactly the same, I got to experience Brazilian dishes the way the chef cooks at home for herself. read more

Fabulous place to dine. All of the boxes are checked- good service, good food, good convo,attractive decor, and how often do you get to meet the owner (that's a plus). Walked in and was greeted promptly by Leo. He told us to take a seat anywhere we liked. Since we were the only vehicle in the nice sized parking lot at the time (came day one of restaurant week) my husband said we're going to get personalized service, and that we did. The complimentary buffet is a huge plus and a great intro to the brazilian food. Then comes the complimentary chicken croquets and famous cheese bread. That's 3x the free, sold. Our entrees were the horseback riding steak (tender) and the oxtails (yum) and each came with a slightly less than ripe mango (who knew) love it. Last but not least I LOVE that this place is BYOB and the passion fruit mousse was hitting (I had two and I normally don't like mousse). The eating area was filled, so be prepared to be patient with services. Very cozy set up in their basement, playing music in Portuguese in the background. The interior was beautiful- we drank hibiscus juice and had appetizers in the living room space before eating outside on the patio. The food was amazing too- the ribs were my favorite, and it was BYOB which was nice. As for my experience making a reservation... I made our reservation ~2 weeks in advance. The day before the reservation, I received a text from them at 11:16am to confirm or cancel. At 12:33pm, they texted again and said " We need to cancel. Try next brunch. Sorry." They didn't offer to rebook for us. I asked why they cancelled us, and they never responded. That left a bad taste in my mouth. Luckily the food sweetened it a bit, but still, the booking customer service could use much improvement. read more

We were at Georgina's house for an evening event and I HIGHLY recommend this business. All the staff and Georgina were so welcoming. The food was abundant and very very delicious. The space was beautifully decorated and it felt so warm and welcoming, as if you are dining at grandparents house. At the end of the day, Georgina waited for my ride to come and his staff ensured I got to my ride safely. While waiting, we talked about music and I was offered event more yummy pastry. My favourite dishes are the beet salad, ox tail, feijoada (with pork feet), pão de queijo, Bean sprout salad, and ribs and of course the dessert-red velvet flan. Wish there was moqueca too. Very friendly waiter. Wish the appetizers were individually packaged to cater to the covid situation too so guests don't need to share with other tables. This was my first time trying Brazilian food. I supposed I wasn't completely blown away by the traditional entrees like feijoada or oxtail but I can see these dishes being nostalgic taste of home for others. However, I did enjoy the salad, meat, and fish options! Dessert was perfect. I've never had a red velvet flan cake! It was so delicious! Considering we were celebrating my Birthday there was no special attention paid to that. It was difficult in ordering drinks during the meal when all that was handed to us was a Brazilian can of soda. The basement was freezing cold during January. Equally, the food was room temp but that's to be expected with buffet food. Overall, each seating we witnessed was fully booked and there was a couple planing their wedding catering which were good signs. What a wonderful, different and home experience this was. We visited in May and were not really prepared for such a warm, welcoming and extraordinary meal and extravaganza. This is a single family residence where they serve appetizers and drinks on the first floor. Then we were escorted downstairs to the basement level where the buffet was served. My first time dining here and I chaperoned a group of about 30 people. We had a lovely time and you could clearly tell that Jeorgina, chef & owner, has heart and passion for what she cooks up in the kitchen. Everyone in my group got plenty to eat. There was a buffet setup inside and a buffet setup outside on the patio. Food was good. The plantains had me going back for seconds. This restaurant is nowhere near where I live and I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. I probably wouldn't return again. If you're in the area it's a very unique dining experience. My partner and I were so exited upon entering this place, but first rewind.... But that's okay, the usher took us up the stairs where we we smack dab in the middle of Georgina's (owner and cook) living room. With its fireplace and majestic yet simple look. This is actually her home as you have read from other reviews but Georgina is a beautiful hostess. We were given a few appetizers and while we waited for other guest on this 2 PM lunch crew to arrive, we munched and chit chatted. She (Georgina) came up and just was as pleasant as can be. She explained what our dining experience would be, and the various foods we were about to taste. Our lunch started a bit later but she came up to ask if everyone was okay with that. We were of course. So the Buffet portion of this was beyond expectations. The usher offered to mix up our BYOB of Champagne and Orange juice and we of course tipped him well because he didn't have to do that. Brazilian Top Sirloin (Pinanha) was amazing, as she came personally to the table and of course she explained all the local foods of her country and how some may contain peanuts just in case anyone is allergic, that only made me smile because of her caring. Then there was the Black beans cooked Brazilian style with shreds of pork. WOW! She also served up some plantains in a little butter. Yucca Croquettes (Blinho de aipim) some cassava cake for dessert and flan which of course was to die for! Oh did I mention that this is an all you can eat buffet? Yes, with salads of the Brazilian culture, some drinks, and you are off. Absolutely a must try, and at $30 per person on Sunday Brunch, you can't pass this one up! Fun and quirky place. We had lunch on Tuesday and sat outside. The hibiscus tea was delicious as was the food. We ordered the sirloin and chicken and had the all you can eat rice, black beans, pasta and salad that came with it. The seasonings they use complimented the food well and not what I'd normally use at home with regularity so it was fun to try to figure out what each portion was seasoned with. The biscuits were amazing - I think they were yuca biscuits filled with cheese. I could've eaten ten of those. Plantains were also noteworthy, and I'm not a huge fan of plantains. We want to take our friends there sometime and take advantage of the BYOB policy. We'll be back. read more

I can honestly say that we had the best Brazilian meal here today. The buffet is tricky because you will be tempted to go back for seconds before your entrée come, we had been warned and took only a little. My Aunt selected the shrimp, which were in a light cream sauce, served with really tasty rice. My husband had the chicken, he truly enjoyed it. My mother order the special of the day, Brazilian Pock Chops which were spicy and extremely juicy. I had the steak, medium, which was so tender and perfect. The steak was served with delicious Yukon Potatoes. Each meal was $15, well priced and delish. After our meal we toured the location. There is an area for small parties upstairs and a beautiful patio with grapes growing. I highly recommend going to this restaurant. read more

Loved dining here! It was really like eating in your friend's mom's house! At $16 for lunch, you could choose an entree and help yourself to the carboload that is the buffet for sides (rice, beans, pasta salad, etc). My shrimp entree was extremely well cooked, juicy and plentiful! It was like jumbo shrimp and there were easily at least 6 pieces worth of yum! My colleagues all enjoyed their dishes as well. The hibiscus tea was sweet but really good and it was an easy fix to just add a little water to it. After the 25% cashback on Groupon, tax and tip was about $15/per person. Super good deal (and you know I'm all about them deals) for the overall dining experience. They have a large parking lot that was super convenient. The owner also offered us to go upstairs to see the elegant dining room and also took us to the back where outdoor seating happens with her grapes also growing! Wow, I loved this place, the people and especially the food. Jorrgina is absolutely wonderful and welcomes you to her charming home, her kitchen and delights you with a delicious smorgasbord of lovingly and skillfully prepared Brazilian cuisine. From the moment you enter her home you are greeted as a guest of the family, ushered upstairs to the parlor floor for cocktails and hor deurves before being requested to descend to dinner in her elegant extended kitchen/dining area. We went for the Sunday buffet of which their are two seating, 2 pm and 4 pm. It's BYOB as well. I don't know where to begin describing the food. Large selection of vegetarian dishes, pulled pork that was marinated and slow cooked for a day or so, beef bacon, salmon, chicken, beef stroganoff, cheese bread, eggs, pasta, yucca, desserts aaaahhh! No blaring music to compete with either. Just friends, food, wine and good times. I'm guessing it seats around 26 people in various flexible configurations. There is a center table for 10 and window table for 8 that look like fun for a group dinner. Free private parking next door. In season Outdoor seating. I'm a big fan. Can't wait to return. read more
