Having never eaten roti, I didn't know what to expect. I enjoy Indian food, so I assumed that roti would be similar. The man (Mr. Singh?) behind the counter was dour. He told me that the shop offered three types of chicken: (one I forget), curry, and jerk. The price? "$16.99," he said. I ordered the jerk and selected two vegetable "sides," which were actually tucked into the roti skin. Although the taste was pleasant, I was disappointed that it didn't have the jerk punch, or even much Indian-type flavor. Perhaps Trinidadian jerk is different from the Jamaican source. The $22.95 bill was an unwelcome surprise. When I asked, the man respond that the price of jerk chicken was higher than the other chicken roti. Why didn't he tell me that when I ordered? I'd heard about Boston "hospitality" but figured it wouldn't hold me back from driving the 5 hours up from New Jersey to try the famous Singh's Rotis. Sure enough, I was treated to some no nonsense attitude, instructed what to order, take a seat, and wait for my food. I did feel dissuaded to ask too many questions, but beyond that the service was actually very much like coming home, as if to your tough uncle who actually loves you very much and will make sure you're well fed and taken care of. The owner and I chatted about our backgrounds, our tastes in food, and when the food did come out, he explained how to eat it best and gave me some extra sauce. And the food is BOMB. Totally worth the drive up. The roti is chewy, richly fried, slightly sweet, and decadent for every bite. The curried chick peas inside are the perfect filling. I imagine that on a frigid Boston night this combo would fill you up with warmth like nothing else. The Veggie Deluxe is a good wholesome meal with its lightly saiteed and seasoned mixed veggies, but at the end of the day, the simple no frills Double is all that's needed. While you'll probably grab the roti to eat on the go, the shop itself is spacious clean and has a nice traditional vibe. My first time trying trini food. I ordered doubles, macaroni and cheese pie, and chicken roti. The bread for the doubles and roti tasted really fresh. It was soft and pillowy. The doubles are very unique in flavor with a little bit of everything, savory, sweet, tangy. The roti said it comes with 2 sides inside the roti, but they weren't included. Also the first piece of chicken I got was really dry, like it had been forgotten in a fryer for a while dry, but the rest of the chicken was well cooked and moist, falling apart. The macaroni pie is dense but delicious, lovely crispy cheese crust. I really enjoyed it. The delivery was very well packaged, with lots of care and the food arrived fast and hot. This food was so hot no one enjoyed their meal ( and we ordered a few kids meals). It was very spicy and most people found it hard to enjoy the flavor. 2) I picked up food on a Sunday and it tasted stale, like food from Friday maybe even earlier in the week. 3) I bought a few treats like tamarind ball, however it tasted like someone made them after seasoning meat. The tamarind tasted like garlic and other seasonings. I also got a candy bar from Trinidad, the expiration date on the candy was 11months past. Family and I drove 2 hrs one -way from Connecticut to Boston for Mr Singh's. Tears came to my eyes when the doubles hit my mouth- thank you Jesus!! Amongst us, besides the doubles, we had boneless chicken roti, pholourie and some paratha roti washed down with 2 Solos- banana and cream soda. Finished up with some currant rolls for the road. Food is just like my mommy's!! Just don't tell her lol. Made with love. Had both types of Rotis- yum!! Been a couple of times. Doubles are the best! Had the curry chicken and curry goat, pumpkin, chana and pholourie- you have to try! I prefer more of a dominan or Jamaican style of oxtail as it's more spicy than the trini style. But still good. Live about an hour north but when we visit family in Boston we always make a stop before heading back. Keep in mind buss up shut roti is huge!! Please this a try you won't regret it. read more

Eaten here four times now and it's been fantastic every time. Really takes me back to some of the best Caribbean spots I'd eat at as a young person in south Florida. Everything I've had has been great (oxtail, stew jerk chicken, sweet plantain, roti, doubles, the cooked veggies), but I'd really recommend adding doubles to your order if you've never tried them. Coming from the Barbados, Trinidad and Guyana this food is definitely reminding me of home and is just as good! Living in the US for a while now it's been hard to find good Caribbean food in places like California, Chicago, and St. Louis. Seeing that Boston had spots made my summer here, and Singh's is definitely leading the pack. Given the layout of this place, I was glad that I had ended up checking out Singh's Roti Carribbean Restaurant on my own rather than dragging a friend along with me. It is sort of a siamese type spot, with one shared door up a slight step, entering into the roti shop on the left, and some other little store on the right. With but one solitary stool by the window, it isn't the sort of spot that you'd go to with plans of dining in. Order at the counter where there are trays of prepped foods such as the sides and their primary meats, and take your bundle to-go. I wanted to try their crab patty, but that wasn't an option on this visit (time: Saturday lunch), so chicken boneless roti it was! For $9.49 ($10.69 with tax) a large flat roti was filled with scoops of my choice of two sides (the cabbage included thin sliced carrots and an occasional broccoli, and a chunky curry potato) and the protein (chicken boneless, least I repeat myself... though I did find one small bone, but such is the luck of the draw). And just what is roti? I had assumed it to simply be some kind of bread, like that in Indian restaurants. Yum, right? I like bread. But this one had something grainy tucked between the thin layers that flew out as I tugged off pieces of the roti - split peas! More like "dhalpuri" I presume from my googling. Between the plastic fork and my fingers, I managed to eat about half the fat bundle and was satisfied with my meal of tender chicken and nicely firm, well cooked vegetables. Really liked this small place! I was a bit overwhelmed with choices and asked for a recommendation, and the lady said the boneless chicken curry on roti was the most popular, so I ordered that. It came with veggies and potatoes, all wrapped up in a burrito-style fashion, although with the curry inside, it was still a bit messy to eat. I will say that I found the chicken to be dry, probably because it was breast meat. I think I'd probably get the bone-in one next time because that's sure to be more juicy, although it might make eating more difficult. The roti was really delicious and warm, and I was pulling it apart and eating it with the sauce and veggies. One serving is HUGE and lasted me two full meals. I'm kicking myself for not trying all of the different veggie sides they have, because they looked so good. Prices are very reasonable, considering how much food you get. This is only the second time I've had curry chicken roti and it was delicious. The roti here is thicker and chewier than the first place I had. I'm no roti expert so I don't know which is more authentic but both were good in their own way. Definitely ask for the hot sauce. I did think the price was a little steep.
