The service was a classic Jamaican spot with a rude server who doesn't respond when food request are made then got snappy for some reason assuming we knew she heard our food request. Highly highly recommend the beef patty. I tried the jerk chicken thinking I could handle the spice (shocker, I couldn't)... it had a good flavor but I'm not used to that level of heat and it basically burnt a hole through my digestive tract. The rice was pretty good and the plantains were fairly good, just some of the plantains were undercooked. Were we greeted by happy employees? NO!!! Especially the server. Such an unhappy woman. When it came down to me ordering, AFTER my friend, I asked for a patty and coco bread. She proceeds to say to a paying customer "me", "Why didn't I tell her that, you seen me get it for him". I said, "we are doing separate orders". Another time got jerk chicken, asked for gravy on side, because wasn't sure how hot it would be, and not only was it salty, but the server poured jerk gravy all over the meat and rice which made the dish very spicy and inedible . I LOVE FLAMES My best friend's family is Bahamian- Jamaican and Ive been to Nassau to live with them for short periods of time, multiple times and I was just absolutely missing all the FLAVOR in the cold beginnings of quarantine in Boston. When the sun came out I ventured over with 100 surgical masks which I donated to Flames and tried my first curry shrimp plate from them with rice and beans and their cabbage, which is to die for. I got to have it a couple more times before I left Boston, and I miss it dearly. The curry shrimp is so juicy - puts to shame all of the take out shrimp I have gotten from Thai places where the shrimp is dry and you can tell it's been frozen for months. FLAMES HAS THE BEST SHRIMP ever - it's plump, fresh, and the spices are perfect and off the charts. Plus, if you get 'the guy' he properly loads scoops of that yumminess on to your plate. Sometimes you need some good ox tails or curry goat in your life. I've never been a huge fan of jerk chicken (their's is really good but a tad too much hot pepper). I'll eat it if it's there but I've never craved it the way I do ox tails and curry goat. Put a mile high plate of the two with rice and peas (slight hint of coconut), steamed cabbage, with a few pieces of ripe plantain and.... Well..... You'll see me eat like I've NEVER seen food. You'll see me eat like I haven't eaten in weeks. Flames II hits the spot! Their ox tails are ALWAYS tender and falling off the bone with the slightest touch. Their goat has an impeccably fresh taste and the sides..... Look, I can't spend the day describing the joy my palette experiences when I eat there. You're just going to have to take my word for it and pop over. If you're dining in simply have a seat and someone will be over. Do not get in line for takeout. The prices are reasonable, selection is vast, and sit down service is always pleasant and welcoming. Flames is OK! Their pattys are just spicy enough, their goat curry is decent and their jerk chicken is mild enough to appeal to lightweights. Much more of a take-out place than a dine-in but great for workday lunches. If you plan to stay do be mindful that the folks behind the counter will regularly fail to ask whether you would like to eat there or take your food to go and instead simply start piling your order into a styrofoam container... which in good faith will be taken to an open table to be enjoyed. Then regardless of the otherwise empty tables all around you an employee will come charging out from behind the counter to *demand* you leave immediately and explain harshly that you should have *told* them you wanted to dine-in!! I've seen this scenario play out too many times to count when picking up a few pattys for an office gettogether. The bewildered patron is sent packing, wondering what they did wrong. Final tidbit - make sure you have utensils available if you pick up an order for the office... regardless of whether or not you ordered a few pattys or 50 orders of goat curry you're only getting ONE fork in that bag. :P read more

The ambiance was a strange mix of buffet-style takeout and sit-down style restaurant, but you're not allowed to sit at a table if you're grabbing a takeout meal. Really delicious Our table had Jerk Chicken, Goat Curry, and Patties. We ate in, sat by the window. The server asked us if we like spicy, which we all said very much so. The joint is a little neighborhood gem. Plates come with rice, and a side, we all had the rice/beans, and cabbage carrot for sides. I really enjoyed the texture of the crunchy veg, with the soft rice, and the falling off the bone chicken. My only regret is that we were on foot and also flying out and could not finish our food, or take it. If I had it to do over again. I would have ordered less patties, or ordered them to go for eating later in the day. 3 Diners ordered 3 patties 1 curried goat plate 2 Jerk chicken came to around 40$, it was a lot of food, none of us finished and 2 were healthy males, with substantial eating power. The vegetable curry was also pretty darn good. My vegetarian friends were very happy with the non-meat selection. Sadly I couldn't try any vegetables cuz this weird carrot allergy I have...
