I said let me try Flames one more time after not eating from this establishment over a year. 10 years ago, Flames was delicious. I will not order from this establishment again until they get the right chef. I ordered the stew beef with carrots, the yellow rice with vegetables and cabbage. The plate cost me including tax $20. The food was absolutely not good.!!! What the heck are they cooking? This is not Jamaican food.! The carrots was cut so huge. I'm a cook and this food wasn't good! The stew beef was TOUGH. The rest of my plate will feed the birds!!! What happened to you FLAMES. I went to this Flames because I never been there before I usually go the Flames on Huntington but anyways the first time they over charge and gave me some fried dumplings the second time they charge me a Curry goat that was $19.75. When I had my first bite of jerk chicken, the first thought that came to mind was: "FINALLY. Some *real* food." I moved to Boston a few months ago, and people kept telling me this recurring issue about Boston food establishments -- that the food is meant to please the New England palette and was thus mildly flavorful/lacking in spice, across the board. I'm so glad Flames proved me wrong. The jerk chicken was packed with spice/punch, the rice and peas were perfectly cooked, and the cabbage was just right. My friend had the oxtail and it was also divinely delicious. One other important detail -- the portion sizes are generous! I took my plate to-go and had the heavenly leftovers for lunch the next day. Ambiance: I loved the simple yet cultural feel of the establishment. The place is casual, but there are lovely paintings of African descendant peoples in community that adorn the walls. It made me feel so at home. Service: The service was quick here. To the point and helpful. I cannot recommend Flames enough!!! At this point they are just ripping us off. $8 extra for callaloo instead of cabbage or mixed vegetables is ridiculous..$19 for beef plate is insane and you can't buy a small. Ain't nobody paying those prices that's why the food just sits there all day long. We used to be able to get a small steak or beef plate. They are killing us people of the hood who can barely survive.. Chicken curry was amazing!!! The sauce from the chicken was thick and creamy with a mild spicy level, which I loved. The yellow rice was fluffy and tasty. The service was fast. Before leaving I told the girl at the register the food was delicious and she look ecstatic, we engaged on a short conversation and even said bye when I left. The food at the restaurant is always great. We especially love the chicken curry patties, those are a must try! Recently we started getting food plates to explore the other items and have always enjoyed it. The food is simple and delicious. Sometimes the staff is hit or miss. One trip they are awesome and the next they are cold and too busy on their phones to really pay attention to the customers. The woman name Drea was very rude and confrontational. I notice she has a habit of being condescending. I am a regular customer here and she is constantly rude for no reason. I usually get stew chicken and today it tasted off and when I brought it to her attention she yelled at me. First she told I could not get a refund. So I settle and tried to try something else on the menu. Then when I ask to speak to a manager or hire up she told me there was no one the after I saw that there were other people in the back. She finally gave me a refund after I insisted the 2nd time. As long she works here I would not be back. It might seem small but I notice another customer walk out right before ordering. We finally tried Flames and were not disappointed! We had jerk chicken, curry chicken, and stewed steak combos as well as mac and cheese, plantains, and beef patties. Food was awesome and spicy, generous portions, reasonable prices, and the service was friendly! We will be back for sure. read more
