Stewed Steak

The service has always been terrible, but this is one of the better locations as far as food/flavor. But when I tell you, RUDE!! Attitude, for no reason at all. Look, the service is bad, but the place is clean and the food is good. Get you a carrot cake for dessert.

This location serves the best food. Overpriced. The food comes with attitude. Rude for no reason at all. The place is always clean and well decorated.

This was the small size . Costed about $13 with tax. The portions here are large and the prices are reasonable. I was skeptical to try this spot after reading the reviews . But I am happy I decided to try it for myself. The place is very casual nothing fancy at all your typical homey mom and pop shop. I ordered my food . Was served it with no issues and went on my way . As a person new to the area I'm happy I found a Caribbean spot that's close by that I can get food from . Will be coming back to try out other menu items . Pleasantly surprised:) This is the king fish , rice and peas with steamed veg ( cabbage) . If you're not a person that particularly love spicy food, this escovich might be a bit much for you.

Oh! Absolutely! I have only been to two Jamaican/Caribbean places in Beantown, so far, but I would choose this over any other. The food was pretty close to what I've eaten in our previous residence. The flavor is on point, and the portions are worth your monies ..and yes! We traveled over an hour for this food! The staff is friendly and attentive to customers' needs. No hustle about anything! We had curry goat and jerk chicken, plus the passion/pineapple juice. Ate to our fill and had leftovers to take home. Located right in front of the Green-line (E) and less than 10 mins from the Nubian T stop, you have no reason not to go over and try it. There's plenty of seating for dine-in. We shall return!

Delicious food!! Good family vibes, sweet elders. Ask for the hot sauce . Enough food to last for days!!

King Fish & Vegetables, Rice & Peas, Plantain

I love stopping here because I'm never disappointed. The food is always fresh when I come and it tastes delicious. Last time I came we ordered King Fish with vegetables, rice and peas, and plantain and Pepper Steak with rice and peas and plantain. Everything was great. Definitely stop by if you're around and want a nice hearty meal.

I went back yesterday and they've increased the price by over $1. I expected the food to taste better due to the price change. However, the quality of the food got worse. They give more rice and less chicken now.

Oxtail with rice and peas and cabbage

I mean look at the plates it speaks for itself. It looks great and tastes even better. We got the rice and peas with cabbage and oxtail and the same thing except with stewed goat. You can tell they clean and prepare their meats well because there is no gamey taste to it. It's just super tender and welll made.

ox tail with the bean rice and lettuce is so good!!! the ox tail is a hit or miss depending on the day. I also got some beef patty! use the hot sauce on the tables its delicious!!! I also tried the jerk chicken it was kind of dry. parking: hard to find meters esp in the longwood area!

This review is for getting take-out twice. Great flavor, price, and portions! Got the large chicken curry both times. So flavorful. They usually ask if you want sauce on the rice (my answer is always yes!) but if they don't, just remind them. For $12, you can't beat this price in the longwood area. I was able to split it up into 2 portions. Make sure to let the staff know if you want to dine in or take out. You're not allowed to eat the take out portions in the dining area. Takes about 10-15 minutes to get in and out depending on how much staff is available and whether there's a line of customers.

Subpar Jamaican restaurant. Good is a hit or miss at times. Same with quality of service. Good for something quick to grab that's filling.

Jamaica Mi Hungry - Pulled Jerk Pork entree with sides of Mac N' Cheese and Brussel Sprouts

This place is great. Came here on a saturday around opening time and got served right away! There's…read morea good amount of seating in the restaurant and it filled up a bit more by noon. I got the jerk chicken with fried plantains and rice. The sides were freaking amazing. The fried plantains were so crispy and I could eat them all day. The rice was also delicious because it was a little sweet and had some coconut flavor too. The jerk chicken itself was great. It was more of a saucy jerk chicken instead of a dry rub, but it tasted really tender and flavorful. It was a little pricey for $~18, but I think it's worth it. It was a lot of food and I ended up having leftovers to take home for dinner. A few days later, and I still craved that chicken, plantain, and coconut rice combo. Can't wait to go back!

Some highlights: Garlic shrimp - these were huge and juicy with the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Having this on the rice and beans was heaven on a place and I had several helpings of this! Chicken - this was a little spicy for me, but that's just a personal preference. I could tell that this was well seasoned and people more tolerant to spice would love this - the chicken was still juicy and saucy. This also pairs well with the rice and beans! Plantains - nothing over the top but a nice sweeter bite to balance out the plate. Yummy! Mac n cheese - this was one I wasn't super crazy about - I think a bit more cheese would have been nice here but it wasn't a bad bite. All in all, 4/5 as there were some dishes that didn't blow me away, but the garlic shrimp with the rice and beans is to die for. Would happily have this again or go to the food truck location to order it!

It's a small, family-owned restaurant that's half Filipino and half Jamaican, run by a Filipino Tita and her Jamaican husband. She learned how to cook Jamaican food to remind him of home, which honestly makes the whole place feel even more meaningful. The Filipino dishes I tried were authentic and tasted homemade -- the kind of food that feels like it came straight out of your auntie's kitchen. The Jamaican food was also delicious (I can't personally vouch for authenticity there), but everything we had was flavorful and satisfying. It's a great, casual, order at the counter spot -- and it's right next to a Filipino market, which makes the experience even better. I love supporting small businesses, especially ones that represent my culture. Bright Light is the kind of place that deserves the love.

The restaurant is located right on the corner, with limited street parking and a small lot in the back. It's a cozy, casual place offering Filipino cuisine with a touch of Jamaican flavor. There's a comfortable dine-in area with several tables, and takeout is also available. The food was clearly fresh and homemade, and everything we tried was excellent. I had the jerk chicken, which was flavorful and well-prepared, but I was especially excited to try the Filipino dishes. I sampled a few different options, and each one was delicious and authentic. If you're in the area and looking for a unique mix of Filipino and Jamaican food, this spot is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended. .

This price range is more close to the city price range. The lamb shank is flavorful, the salad that comes with it is fresh and the dressing is on the sour side, which is appetizing. The conch fritter came out hot and the batter is nice and not greasy. The ambiance is ok, with some jazz music playing in the background. I appreciated how much this place leans into both cultures from decor showcases both cultures to their balanced menu featuring dishes from both. There is ample seating at this place and dont let the construction outside deter you because they are open. We ordered the cheese manakish to start, and this might have been my favorite dish. Balanced with two types of cheese with a light airy texture to it kept it from feeling too dense. The pita its on is crunchy and thin, and theres a drizzle of sauce, likely some form of pesto, that cuts the flavor making it a truly enjoyable dish. We also ordered the chicken kebabs and roasted jerk chicken. The kebabs were a great portion with tender chicken, some greens, and grains. I personally could have used more tzakai, but thats a personal preference. Overall though, the meal did not feel heavy and I left feeling full but not overtly stuffed which I was happy with. My husband's jerk chicken was a sizable dish. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone, and the pilaf had a nice flavor to it. Overall we really enjoyed our meals. The service can take some time, but its a super small staff so just be patient.
