They kept the yard clean, with no smoking/music, and thorough site protection from lead while scraping. John painted a number of samples of our red siding colors on the house so we could find the match we liked, and also took care of matching the cream and blue colors. He and the crew also made some recommendations (like painting the downspouts and adjusting the deck color to match the rest of the house better), but didn't press if I decided differently. They also identified areas that needed wood repair (fascia, siding, porch base) and did those very nicely, again with clear pricing ranges up front. The couple times I wasn't happy with something, they fixed it right away. There was a tricky spot to reach on a 3rd floor dormer, and when I called it out they went back and got it. And the crew scraped/prepped a railing that I had initially not asked to be repainted, but they just included it in the repainting without charging extra. They aren't cheap, but the quality of work and communication is excellent. I won't hesitate to contact John again.

In March a good friend of mine called me up and said that he found a good painter for me for the…read moreright price. He also recommended that I would do it right away. I called Josh and talked to him about my house that is huge and old; as I told him, I needed to repair the windows before the paint job could be completed. Josh said that he knew a carpenter who could do the windows and would paint the house after the repairs were done. As it turned out, I needed to get 27 windows fixed. So I had a bargain, a good carpenter who was ready to go up three stories to get my windows on the top floor and a painter who was going to paint my three-decker. Eventually, J&J came after all the repairs were completed and painted my house in 10 days. They were extremely efficient, professional, and pleasant to deal with. They answered my concerns by scraping, sanding, and caulking all surfaces. They used primer and good paint. Some of my neighbors came over to Josh to ask him whether he could paint their houses too. There was no drama, no mess. They told me in advance to inform other residents not to use the common area for a day or two. I definitely hope to hire them for inside jobs and recommend them for outside painting.

My wife and I decided to have our house painted this summer. When we started, the old paint peeling…read moreand flaking off the old wooden shingle siding, and the trim paint was cracked and rough looking. We initially decided to go with another outfit (who will remain namless...) who ended up cancelling on us the day before they were scheduled to start the work. With the difficulty of finding contractors after the pandemic, we thought we were in real trouble. Then we found Mendez painters and we were saved! Within a day of calling, Florentino came out to inspect the site and emailed us a quote which was shockingly affordable and included all of the details we wanted to see. So, we put down a deposit and they fit us into their (very busy) summer schedule. Florentino and his crew did amazing work on what turned out to be a huge job. They scraped all of the old flaking paint off, getting down to bare wood in many parts. After power washing, they followed up by using a (very high quality) oil-based primer over the entire house which they then sanded smooth and filled in all of the holes/cracks in our siding. Due to the rain, it took a little longer than expected to get the work done, but they made up for lost time by bringing a HUGE, highly experienced crew. They used Sherwin Williams Duration paint on both the siding as well as the trim. Florentino and his crew really went the extra mile, even filling in some large holes in our siding and re-attaching some worn trim at no extra charge. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to repaint their home.

Even though their pricing was at the high end of the estimates we received, i chose them because…read moreof: their great reviews here and elsewhere; affiliation with WBUR public radio and Historic New England; their estimate was extremely detailed; and they work on a lot of old houses. I expected their attention to detail and customer service to be just as detailed as their estimate but they fell far short of meeting our expectations. If it weren't for me directing the painters each day, we would've had a number of areas that were either not painted at all, not properly prepped, or painted the wrong color. I gave one star because their painters did an acceptable job...but only because I had to manage them by myself. They needed direction, which the project manager Pete did not provide. And when he was here he never gave me a heads up; if I happened to notice Pete was here he would disappear before I could get outside to look at things with him. At the end of the job, even on the last day, he did not meet with us when punch list items should have been reviewed. They also refused to do the last bit of work we planned on. It was estimated separately because they were still discussing with us which floor sealer to use and another contractor had to install the gutters first before they came back to paint them. Pete, backed up by Nigel (the owner) decided they didn't want to work with us anymore because they "did not meet our expectations." Normally if a business admits to not meeting the expectations of their customer, they try to correct the problem to make the customer happy. In this case, apparently because we complained about the above issues as well as some damage to our antique hardware and floor, they dumped us with 1-2 days work left to do. (They didn't have to honor the second estimate because we hadn't paid a deposit yet - they hadn't billed us yet, though we technically had a verbal and written agreement via email). Lesson learned, if you arrange work on a separate estimate, be sure to pay the deposit so they are locked into finishing your job! When invoiced, they tried to charge us for work not done (I knew this because I was here everyday managing the job) so i had to ask them to reduce the bill by that amount. When I received the adjusted invoice, I asked for a discount due to our dismal experience, the amount of personal time I had to spend managing this project, as well as the damage that they did not address. The owner responded by threatening to have his lawyer put a lien on our house instead of first trying to make this right, which is the number one tenet of customer service. Incredibly disappointing and confusingly awful customer service. DO NOT HIRE THEM.
