Cute little couches through out the room too - perfect for when opening gifts. They have a nice speaker system for music and you can connect via Bluetooth. Also looked like they had a projector if needed but we didn't use. Nick was helpful and the Mill provided tables, table cloths, and a backdrop for photos. Welcome back to 1972 when The Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina was built!…read more This motel is a step back into the past with no internet, sculpted carpeting, a wall made entirely of rocks, dark hallways, toilet paper as thin and rough as sandpaper, and what looked like a popcorn ceiling! The photos online are NOTHING like the real thing. This is not a fancy place. That said, the bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean, and it was generally restful and quiet. We were able to check in early (at 1 pm) for free when we called the day we were coming in. Thank you! There was a gorgeous view of the lake in our lake-front room but on our patio, there was only 1 chair, and the dividers between patios didn't come all the way down which meant there wasn't much privacy. The internet was out most of our stay (2 days), though the staff tried hard to fix it. Turns out, the modem was above the ceiling tiles! Most of the staff was very responsive and friendly, including the cleaning people. We were able to get towels to the pool from them though there were no towels by the pool and very few towels in our bathroom. Parking was easy and plentiful. The pool was gorgeous and warm and lovely to swim in. There were a number of leaves in it, but, other than that, it was nice to swim in! The workout room was closed during the time we were there, but, we chose to swim instead which felt great. Tips: 1. If you want to check in earlier than 4, call the same day and ask if you can. 2. The Fourwinds Inn is inside a state park which means you will be paying $7 that you get back after your stay. They also give you a flier with your name and room number so that you can go in and out of the park without paying again. 3. Bring food and bottled water! The rooms have antiquated looking tea and instant coffee -- and if you're looking for anything more, it's not going to be right. 4. The restaurant gets horrible reviews and it's very expensive. They also don't have many or any gluten-free options. For food, I would recommend places like FARMBloomington, BRU Burger for lunch/dinner and Vivencia for breakfast. 5. They do have a kiosk that sells a few snack items but it's not very well-stocked. It would be nice if the hotel had bottled water in the rooms (for free) OR if they brought in a coffee company like Tinker or Hopscotch to sell coffee and breakfast items. They would make a killing! This is the kind of place you stay when you want to rent a boat (apparently, it's 25% off during the week), or want to avoid the Square during college move in or move out times.

My husband and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary at Fourwinds. The website and even some of the Yelp photos make it look MUCH nicer than it really is-- they are clearly very outdated photos. There is a tiny indoor outdoor pool right next to the on grounds restaurant. It was too small and packed with people at all times for us to want to use. The room was average; nothing special. We ended up spending most of our time in the room or away from the resort. The lake itself is beautiful and it was nice watching so many families take boats out for the day. It was quieter during the day as families spent so much time on the water. The staff were friendly.

I recently attended my first event at Whippoorwill Hill, a high school class reunion. My parents…read morehad previously visited the venue, and they told me how beautiful it was... but until I turned onto the drive, I don't think their description did it justice! Soybeans were planted on both sides of the drive, reminding me of my grandparents' farmland in Greene County. As you come over the hill and see the event barn, especially as I arrived around sunset, it was just stunning! The barn and other buildings on the property date to the 1800s, some of the oldest in Monroe County. I'm a sucker for historic preservation (I'm in the DAR and have a Revolutionary/Hoosier pioneer ancestor buried within half an hour of this place!) so it makes me happy to see the care that the Lucas family has put into both their farm and their event venue. Despite its long history, the barn itself has a modern feel perfect for that rustic farmhouse aesthetic, much like many of the very expensive new construction event barns that are popping up all over the Nashville, TN area where I live. It's so pretty both in daylight and evening that you can't go wrong with your timing. The views are unobstructed from all sides, a perfect little piece of rural paradise not too far from IN-37. I love small businesses, but especially those that are locally owned and Veteran owned. Whippoorwill Hill is both. If you're planning a wedding, craft fair/market, reunion, or just about any other kind of event where you'd like a custom experience with a beautiful Hoosier setting, this place is for you!

This venue is exceptional…read more As the mother of the groom, I was able to be involved in some of the planning as well as the event itself. This venue is absolutely beautiful. The space is perfect for your needs and the get ready area for the bride is exceptional. The venue holds regular meet and greets with vendors which really allows you to meet with them in a relaxed way and then meet more formally if needed. The day of the event could not have gone better. We had no issues at all and all of our vendors were excellent. The venue and teams worked so well together that I could not even think of anything that was not point. Even with some rain on its way, everything was planned out and replanned if needed. Truthfully we never really saw the staff, because they moved so flawlessly with everything. This is a must visit to see if it fits your needs, but know that you will have the best service imaginable and the venue is beautiful using the indoor space and the outdoor space! Would highly recommend this venue for any event that you need.

Upon entering this historic-looking building, you'll be surprised by the modern,…read morerecently(?)-renovated interior. The spaces are sleek, resourceful and pleasant. The spaces are incredibly flexible which makes it easy to hold an event here. The Bloomington Handmade Market had the entire second floor completely open to fit all of their awesome, local vendors. Recently, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce transformed the second floor into a few smaller rooms (used for personal business panels) and also had a bigger, open area available for their keynote speakers. The best part though?! The huge, free parking lot just steps outside the entrance to the building. So convenient and so rare to find at a convention center.

Located just down the road from the golf course and Selma, Bailey's Place has been beautifully landscaped to hold events, wedding ceremonies, etc. I was visiting here for a wedding. It's a gorgeous setup with an arbor, that the bride and groom got married under. There was seating set up in front of the arbor for guest. Behind the arbor was a cabin, that can be used for wedding party to get ready. But also can be used for receptions or having the wedding in. I believe this was the backup if it had rained. There isn't necessarily a parking lot, but a grassy area this is designated for parking. And lots of trees for shading.

My wife and I went and checked out this event space and think it will be a great fit for our…read moreupcoming parties in 2015 and 2016+. We booked it for both a corporate event for our California business and also a personal party in 2015 to entertain friends within a one hour flight from Chicago. I was referred to it by a guy in New York who was looking for a place to entertain two sets of clients, one in in Lexington and one in Louisville, at a central location around the Oaks and to do the Bourbon trail one day. It is a midpoint location part way between. They have a unique high ceiling apartment rental next door that I think you can rent in conjunction with the event space. The unit is huge. I stayed one day while I was siting my party weekend. That makes for a great place for the wedding party say or to entertain the most important clients at your event. Both the space and the loft are very unique and have a much younger/modern vibe compared to the traditional decor and architecture for this town. There is a good Mexican restaurant next door. I really liked the open layout, you could decorate it however you liked if you wanted to do a theme, but it also looks great with the minimalist shop lights and functional sliding warehouse-style door. I don't want to quote prices because it probably depends but I was surprised how reasonable it was, talk to them yourself... The primary drawbacks as I see it is there is nothing else to rent like this within 20 miles, so I probably will have to rent it several years in advance and I tend to have a hard time planning work events too far in advance so it may be booked before my 16 and 17 event is planned. I talked to Kevin, who was very informative and down to earth. I met with an owner there also who happened to be dropping by to weigh in on some details. He is a broker in this town and said he did this as a creative outlet (enjoys rehabbing historic properties) and to increase the demand for permanent housing nearby as he is an investor, so that is how he can justify to rent it out at what I calc'd to be below-market rates for this type of space. If you like modern style, high ceilings and flexible space with a nod to the past and walkability to nearby goods and services(huge factor for us) is a big consideration for you, this is your thing. Check it out for yourself ... I think you will agree with what I am saying though- the place is sharp and this town had needed something like it for a long time. Look forward to many events here.
