This property opened the year Lake Monroe opened -1966. Some of the interior decor appears to be from the same era. I had the opportunity to stay here a year ago for a work function, and then more recently for a quick getaway. For its age, the rooms are pretty spacious. The rooms have been remodeled (although the paint on the wall of one room was peeling). Check in and out is quick and easy. The restaurant is seasonal so it was closed this last visit. The previous visit, the food was good and priced well. The staff accommodated 50 of us with no problem. As the property is adjacent to the marina, access is easy. There is an indoor pool as well. There are restaurants off site close by (I recommend the golf course). I would definitely recommend a lakeside room for a great view. read more

I am in town just for a weekend on the boat. Our company is always looking for places to host events so I was told to check it out. We walked in, greeted immediately by a very sweet friendly girl, asked for a seat outside and were accommodated and sat immediately. It was a Sunday at 6:15, very few tables were occupied inside and out. It was breezy and comfortable. They offered to attempt to find us someone to open the umbrella the rest of the way (it had a plastic knife shoved in there, I assume to keep it halfway opened) but we had shade so we declined. We got water and our order taken very quickly by an attentive server, drinks served quickly. Things were looking good. After we ordered we waited quite awhile but that was ok, we expected to get our appetizer and just relax while we ate. After quite a while the server shows up with the appetizer AND our entrees. I was not happy. What about an appetizer says it comes out with the meal, you are barely busy inside and now we have to shove it all in fast so our meal isn't cold when we hurriedly get to it. If you can't serve an appetizer as an appetizer, you obviously have time management as well as leadership issues in your kitchen. Bang bang shrimp: Shrimp was good sized. Cooked well. Tasted like it was dipped in that awful cornmeal bagged type "breading" you buy at a local grocery store and then topped in that fake "Bang Bang Shrimp" recipe you find on Facebook that people swear is a copycat of Bonefish Grill. Fish and chips: Again that awful cornmeal bagged breading taste. Cod without it was actually good, that breading made it so off putting. Coleslaw: Cabbage with a dollop of what seemed to be just mayo. My husband said that is the worst coleslaw I have ever tasted. It went untouched. Tartar sauce: Just a ton of mayo and little seasoning. Fries: Actually delicious. Pizza: Come on now...it's obviously a frozen disaster. If they are really trying to claim they make the dough...find someone new to learn how to make dough, it's very easy. It's like actual flavorless cardboard. My husband said I think they buy frozen pizza and top it with these uncooked veggies (they were so underdone he scraped them all off to try to eat it unsuccessfully and I refused to even finish a slice) and call it their own. Those tomato's needed another week to ripen. It came home with us and he threw it away when we got here. Drinks: Strong and good. Service: GREAT Food quality: Cheap tasting and felt like it was grabbed from a freezer. Worth the price: Absolutely not, the view is pretty but skip the food, grab a drink and go home to cook for yourself. This place is disgusting. First room found a dead bed bug, and the group didn't panic we just asked to move rooms. Moved up an entire level, lifted up the mattress bed move moving on box frame. They have reviews month over month about bed bugs, they should get a reputable pest control company, shut the place down and actually treat the entire hotel instead of continuing to put people and their families at risk for bringing bed bugs home. The views of the lake from the hotel are nice and they are apparently banking on that to get people to stay. Otherwise, this resort is DISGUSTING. I would HIGHLY recommend NOT staying here. We have stayed here a handful of times over the years (because there is literally no where else to stay on the lake), and it just keeps getting worse. The last time was during covid so I thought surely they have made improvements since then. Nope. Our room on the lower level was moldy and mildewy. Almost difficult to breathe. The pillows had hairs on them so assuming sheets weren't washed. There are spider webs all over the patio. There is no screen sliding door, so forget about enjoying the lakeside breeze while in the room. They provide a card to request maid service to put on your door which we did but of course the room wasn't cleaned. The tub/shower has no grip on the tub floor and no bars so it is extremely dangerous. The stove top in the "suite" was disgustingly dirty (see picture). There is a stain on the hall carpet and it is the same stain I noticed 5 years ago (see picture). I would not walk on the carpets in bare feet. The continental breakfast consisted of basically muffins and cornflakes. The restaurant has a very limited menu of gross fried food or pizza or cheeseburgers. The closest restaurant offsite is probably 15 minutes away. It is very clear that this "resort" does not care about guest amenities. Welcome back to 1972 when The Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina was built! This motel is a step back into the past with no internet, sculpted carpeting, a wall made entirely of rocks, dark hallways, toilet paper as thin and rough as sandpaper, and what looked like a popcorn ceiling! The photos online are NOTHING like the real thing. This is not a fancy place. That said, the bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean, and it was generally restful and quiet. We were able to check in early (at 1 pm) for free when we called the day we were coming in. Thank you! There was a gorgeous view of the lake in our lake-front room but on our patio, there was only 1 chair, and the dividers between patios didn't come all the way down which meant there wasn't much privacy. The internet was out most of our stay (2 days), though the staff tried hard to fix it. Turns out, the modem was above the ceiling tiles! Most of the staff was very responsive and friendly, including the cleaning people. We were able to get towels to the pool from them though there were no towels by the pool and very few towels in our bathroom. Parking was easy and plentiful. The pool was gorgeous and warm and lovely to swim in. There were a number of leaves in it, but, other than that, it was nice to swim in! The workout room was closed during the time we were there, but, we chose to swim instead which felt great. Tips: 1. If you want to check in earlier than 4, call the same day and ask if you can. 2. The Fourwinds Inn is inside a state park which means you will be paying $7 that you get back after your stay. They also give you a flier with your name and room number so that you can go in and out of the park without paying again. 3. Bring food and bottled water! The rooms have antiquated looking tea and instant coffee -- and if you're looking for anything more, it's not going to be right. 4. The restaurant gets horrible reviews and it's very expensive. They also don't have many or any gluten-free options. For food, I would recommend places like FARMBloomington, BRU Burger for lunch/dinner and Vivencia for breakfast. 5. They do have a kiosk that sells a few snack items but it's not very well-stocked. It would be nice if the hotel had bottled water in the rooms (for free) OR if they brought in a coffee company like Tinker or Hopscotch to sell coffee and breakfast items. They would make a killing! This is the kind of place you stay when you want to rent a boat (apparently, it's 25% off during the week), or want to avoid the Square during college move in or move out times. read more

My husband and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary at Fourwinds. While there were some positives, overall it evened out to be a pretty neutral experience and a bit of a bummer for a wedding anniversary. The website and even some of the Yelp photos make it look MUCH nicer than it really is-- they are clearly very outdated photos. There is a tiny indoor outdoor pool right next to the on grounds restaurant. It was too small and packed with people at all times for us to want to use. The room was average; nothing special. We ended up spending most of our time in the room or away from the resort. The lake itself is beautiful and it was nice watching so many families take boats out for the day. It was quieter during the day as families spent so much time on the water. The staff were friendly. read more

But both our room last yr and this yr were disgusting. This yr... booked a room. Hoped that it would be better. When we got to the hotel we asked if we could have a lakeside room. They said yes, but had to up-charge me $60. We get into our 'upgraded room'... Spiderwebs and a used condom under the bed. Told the front desk. Front Desk says there's no Manager. Which I believe. The only adult on staff I saw all weekend was the guy working the breakfast buffet. The Front Desk told me I should call the Manager on Monday. They handed me a business card. The so called Manager's name on the card is Jessica Atchison. There are 2 phone numbers on the card. Neither one works... busy signal on both. I doubt this person even works there. I doubt I'll ever hear from anyone. Surprise me please. This really suck because the water amenities are really nice. Alot of the good reviews here are by people who have NOT actually stayed overnight at the hotel. They've used the marina or went to the bar or had dinner. So much potential. It just seems like there's no management. Or the ownership is really out of touch. No one directing anyone. We did have a great waitress named Lakota for dinner on night so maybe she can get some credit for that if anyone reads this. Thats enough for now. Never like to write a bad review. To start with we arrived on an out of season date and stayed for 4days. The first day we were the only ones there it was so darn quiet. Absolutely loved the quiet bad part was the Wi-Fi is terrible it's not password protected so our devices had a hard time staying connected and safe. Kept dropping us. Then BOTH their restaurants were closed. I had asked when we booked were they going to be open and was informed they would be but NOT. Oh well used Yelp and found 3 fantastic places. Fairfax Bar and Grill just a mile down the road, Eagle Point 3 miles away has Sahm's restaurant in a swanky golf club location, then we went to Bloomington to El Rancho's and had the best Mexican I'd had in years. So it was a blessing Four Winds Resort restaurants were both closed. They did have a dry continental breakfast in the mornings which was better than nothing. The rooms are very spacious and clean ours had a balcony overlooking the water of Lake Monroe and the huge marina. Beds and linens were very nice and the room has a 50 inch TV. Bathroom was clean with a full appointment of towels and wash cloths nice and soft. We got a chuckle at a note under the sink where they kept the extra towels. Two of the towels have a blue stripe which denotes they are for pool use only and if you don't bring them back from the pool there will be a $10 charge per each LOL. So we gave it 3 stars mainly since there were no restaurants open in the evening but exploring the area we did find exceptional replacements. We suggest going in season like we'll do next years and rent a boat or house boat if their available. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It is so dirty, and the staff is awful. We arrived a little before 3PM and were told the room was ready but we would have to pay an early check-in fee. We said we would go to the bar and were told there were only 2 people working so if we wanted any of the terrible food that is on their limited menu, our options were a BBQ outside at 5 or pizza after 3:30. We received one pool towel and when we asked for another one, we were told you get one pool towel per room, so we had to share one for our day on the boat as were only given two bath towels as well. The pool was packed with screaming children and smelled so badly of urine; we were not going anywhere near that. The "beach" was also a joke with only a couple chairs and broken umbrellas. We had to clean our patio so we could sit outside-it was covered with spiders and cobwebs. We finally had it on day 2 when we were woken up to gangster rap blaring down the hall. We also had so much mold on our A/C, we were having a hard time breathing. There is nothing to do here without the amenities or renting a boat-unless you drive into town, but that's a 20 minute drive. Overall, this place is just absolutely disgusting. We are covered in bites hoping they are spider bites.... Oh, and the lamps in the room do not work-and be sure to check out the pic of the trash can.. read more

I'm sure this resort was one heck of a place in its day...but today, this resort is in need of a good cleaning. It's one thing to be run down and in need of a facelift, but this place is just plain filthy. We had bugs in the bathroom. Went to front desk and asked for some bug spray. They wouldn't give us any because they said they couldn't give us a chemical to use. So they said they'd come down and spray. They never did. They need to fire their cleaning staff and hire some folks that actually take pride in their work. Oh and the dead bolt was broken. The girl at the front desk wouldn't even look at us when speaking. I had a wonderful experience at Fourwinds Lakeside Inn and Marina. The hotel is nicely decorated. I had a stone wall in my room that made me feel like I was in a castle. I had a beautiful view of the marina from my balcony. The staff was friendly knowledgeable and efficient. The grounds are beautiful I enjoyed peaceful walks down to the beach and marina. The bartender and servers in the restaurant were awesome. very attentive and friendly. I had dinner and drinks and everything was delicious. The indoor/ outdoor pool is beautiful. The hotel is old, the rooms were small, and ours was dirty. There was a washcloth (used) left in the shower. The soap dispenser was empty in the bathroom. We found another TV remote left under the bed. The walls are paper thin and you could hear most of the conversation in the adjoining room. The ice machine was broken. Most of the reviews here are true but I'm giving this place four stars because they are clearly trying. Stayed here May 13-15, 2022. Pros - the resort is in a lovely setting and has an impeccable exterior. Very photogenic. It's a nice getaway if you don't need fancy. The in-room mini fridge and mini microwave were much appreciated. Lakeside view rooms have semi- private porches. Cons - The weekend per night fee was not good value. (Try a weekday!) The rooms and resort interior are tired. The pool is open to any of the hundreds of boat slip renters with their hundreds of kids. ((Luckily the obnoxious and poorly behaved parents retreat back to their boats, not the room next to you)) Observations - if you overpaid for a Lakeview room like I did, you can save money by bringing your own food and enjoying it on the porch. The rooms face east so you'll experience a gorgeous sunrise. If you want to see the sunset you'll have to walk or drive over to the other side of the peninsula (off-site). The porches do not have screen doors. They should, but I'm guessing they are hard to maintain. The resort no pets policy doesn't mean you won't see pets. There are plenty of folks walking their dogs on the grounds. They stay on the boats, not in the hotel. All of the dogs we met were good boys and girls. Due to staffing shortages, your room will not be cleaned while you are there unless you're staying longer than three days. If you need your bed remade or extra towels, you have to ask. I needed extra shampoo and the staff member who helped me was very friendly. Overall, I recommend Fourwinds for a scenic no frills getaway, but only if you go during the week. Called the resort on July 2 to cancel my 5 rooms we had booked for 20 of us. When I spoke with the "supervisor" on July 2 he informed me that I was within a 72 hour window and if I canceled I'd have to pay one night stay for each room. I then told him I'd like to speak to a manager to which one wasn't available. He sent me to their voicemail approx 3pm on July 2. I called back July 3, at 9, 10 and 11:30am to no manager available still. Please note that today (July 3) is the day I need to cancel by according to my reservation email. I then again was speaking with the gentleman that I spoke with the day before. He informed me that he cancelled my rooms and charged my card for one night stay for each room. I did NOT authorize the cancellation. I told him I'd want to speak to a manager before cancelling the rooms. We had a change in plans and was going to go forward with our booking and keep them. But unaware to me the rooms were cancelled and already resold. I will not visit this place again. It has been a shit show since Covid. They really need to invest in proper training for their staff and maybe get a manager. Also, may invest some of that $300/night money into remodeling! read more

This is only a review for their event planning service. The actual venue looked fine - two restaurants and a nice lakefront view. The hotel itself looked a little dated. I was looking at this place as an option for a wedding reception. I contacted their event planning coordinator and set up a tour. Fine. On the day of the tour - the coordinator didn't show up! The guy working the front desk gave her a call and got ahold of her, but she didn't come in for the tour or ask to speak to us to apologize. She just forgot the appointment. I waited a couple days after that before reaching out again . . . and heard nothing. Not the most professional look. The front desk guy was nice and gave us a tour even though he was new, but he just wasn't familiar with their event planning service. read more

This hotel is sooooooo outdated. We had a hornets nest right outside our patio door. Ants were out of control in our kitchen. Assistant general manager Jess is just awful! Anything these days is a roll of the dice and I very much found that to be the case with the Fourwinds. Luckily, I did not experience any of the problems referenced in other reviews but I saw a few other hotel guests. I thought the room smelled fine (no mildew) and my room was clean. I didn't smell anyone smoking. While I was checking out, the German dude in front of me said he found a pair of underwear on the floor in his room and another guest checking out said someone was smoking in the room next to her. Dining at the hotel breakfast buffet (not the Windjammer) was okay and priced around $14. They charged me one adult for my two children which I thought was fair. The front desk staff looked pretty worn out which I understand so if you stay here and encounter a problem, be patient. It's probably hard to find staff, especially out in the middle of nowhere. read more

The beach area was the only plus really to staying here. The beach was clean but had no garbage cans close. The pool area was ok, nothing to great. Pool is fairly small and our kids enjoyed the beach much better. The place itself needs to be updated. Mainly the rooms, hallways, and check in space. I met my wife here as I had work that day but she was really upset. When she got there she basically wiped down every surface because they were dirty. She found hair on the towels so I had to stop at the front desk and get all new. The toilet seat was loose and the toilet looked like it had not been cleaned properly in months!! Disgusting!! The bed sheets were clean but seemed old and needing replaced too. Now for the good part, well even worse part. The day before we were set to leave the AC in the room went out!! 8 o'clock at night. Our kids go to bed at 730 so we had to wake them up and move them and all our stuff to another room. That wasn't the worst part. The front desk person tells me "oh sorry we've been having problems with the AC in that room lately". Are you kidding me? You know there's a problem and continue to put people on that room still instead of fixing the problem correctly? Didn't even offer some sort of refund or comp us a room at a later date. This was a huge inconvenience. Now it gets better. At check out they asked how the stay was. I told them the whole situation and they said "oh sorry we had no idea about the AC". I let them know that was a lie because of what the girl told me the night before. Again, silence and nothing to say from them at all. Here's a tip. Stay at a hotel in Bloomington somewhere for cheaper too and just drive to the beach area in the state park right next door to this out dated and lacking staff. read more

My husband and I had an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. The food was decent; we had sandwiches, a salad, and fries. The service, however, was an abomination. Our server greeted us immediately, requesting our drinks and providing menus. We gave our drink order, which was brought quickly. However, that's where the timeliness ended. It took 25 minutes for the waiter to return and take our order. At that point, our drinks were empty. The server stopped initially to get our drinks refilled, and that's when I asked to give our order. We gave our order, and then waited less than 15 minutes for our food (which was a quick turn around time!). During our dinner, the server did not ask if we needed anything; he stopped by only to grab our empty plates. Then, he took an additional 5 minutes to identify which opened ticket was ours (he only had 3 tables in the restaurant at this time). We stayed at The Fourwinds for a friends wedding and it was solid. Not spectacular, but you could do a lot worse. Honestly, more like a 3.5 for me. The lake looked beautiful, but we didn't have much time to explore the area. With that said I would absolutely return and stay at this hotel without hesitation. The rooms are a bit dated, but considering the size of this property I can't nitpick them that much. The bathrooms seemed to be a bit more updated, but the water pressure in the shower was beyond awful. I think I took better showers in a make shift operation in Iraq and that is saying something. The onsite bar / restaurant closes at 11pm which is a bummer. Maybe because this is more of a family place and they want to keep the late noise down. I would absolutely have no hesitation in staying here again and would love to rent a pontoon (they have on site) to explore the area. read more

My wife and I booked a hotel room for this past Sunday evening (2/18) so our kids would have a chance to go swimming on our daughter's birthday. We arrive to find that the reservation that was made over the phone was erroneously made for the night before by the attendant. We were charged the full rate for the hotel room and were told we could book another night. The hotel also had a note on the front desk indicating that the pool was closed for maintenance. I would caution anyone considering using this hotel as the hotel would not resolve their error even though they only had three arrivals yesterday. read more

Barely makes a three star. This is a lodge by a lake in a state recreation area. Our room had a lakeside view (pretty, but not amazing). Our king sized bed was nearly hard as a rock. Perhaps that's why they give you five pillows. Not sure. It was clean for us, unlike some other reviewers here. Quite tidy. There was an odd sign warning us about a $15 charge, per towel, if we lost them some place, like the pool. Indeed there were many such warning signs around, warning us. These-type warnings usually come as a result of visitors doing bad, bad things. Things were going well when I went to the front desk to borrow an extension cord. Nope, sorry, they don't have one to loan. This was a Sat-Sun stay, so the breakfast buffet wasn't open. The coffee was surprisingly good, and our package included breakfast, which amounted to a $8 omelet + an English muffin, both fine but not stellar. Service was good, although we were served poisonous CoffeeMate but luckily, actual cream was summarily found before the coffee chilled. It's not a bad place. It's not a stellar deal. It is VERY handy to having fun in the Fairfax SRA and the adjacent marina, and we took advantage of neither, just the Four Winds. It's quiet, has WiFi, was clean, but entirely unmemorable otherwise. The resort is really declined in its service and facility. Very outdated and it's dark and extremely dirty. Room service is nonexistent. They only clean rooms every fourth day. They do not clean or make beds nor do they provide clean towels. The grounds are littered with trash. Frankly it's just a dirty place. If you want a quality sit down dinner you have to leave the grounds. During our stay vultures we're flying over the beach areas indicating something had died or been killed on or near the swimming/beach area. Staff have a "we don't care" attitude. It's a shame it's a terrible experience on a beautiful Monroe Lake. Sad! The owners/investors are clearly making their money off the Marina . The rest of the facility they're sucking whatever revenue they can without reinvesting in the property. It's a dump! read more

I just was able to stay at the Four Winds during a 2 day meeting that we had for our organization. It was wonderful! Our new room was the perfect size. We had good food and the service we had from Dan for the duration of our stay was superb. He always had a smile on his face and was so kind, not to mention efficient! The only downside is that during our meeting, I often found myself staring longingly at the water in a daze...it was so peaceful!! Was my 1st time staying here just for a night. Rooms where comfortable but the thing that is scary is that most (if not all) of the room doors do not shut properly. They do not close behind you allowing anyone following to get in your room. Even after shutting the door the dead bolt or the normal feature that keeps the door shut doesn't come out allowing anyone to get into your room w/o a key. I'm glad I caught this early in my stay so that none of my valuables would be taken. Just to be safe I'd use the safe in the closet. Pool was very nice and plenty of seating. Ate at both of the restaurants here, the food at wind jammer is alright and drinks are good. Staff is what makes it. Tradewinds buffet breakfast was good and for a good price $9.95. Now dinner, I'd stick with just ordering the pulled pork tacos which out of the things we ordered where the best. Mahi had freezer burn and I know I'm no where near the ocean so my fault for ordering that. Pork chops where dry and not much flavor. Prices where anywhere from $16-$21 w/ two sides included. This is mostly a BBQ place with some fish which states on the menu. Once again the staff made it enjoyable. Would come back but mostly just for the lake and the summer weather. Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina: I had my wedding on a houseboat on Lake Monroe and my reception at Fourwinds. We met the GM in January and he gave us a tour of the facility, told us everything they had to offer, the multiple things they would do to accommodate our needs/wants and promised us exceptional customer service. Our wedding was at the end of April, so a slow season for them. The GM was incredibly stoked that we were considering them for a wedding that weekend. Bought us a couple of drinks at the bar while we chatted out details and questions and even gave our son a Fourwinds t-shirt. We were sold. Called the following Monday and paid the deposit over the phone. Scheduled a tasting in February. Met with the chef, the food manager and the wedding coordinator. Talked out multiple details such as food, orchestration of the table/room set up, timelines for the weekend for set up/tear down, decoration requirements, etc. Check. Told the coordinator that we wanted to put welcome baskets together for our guests as almost everyone would be coming from out of town. 110 guests. At least 1/3 of them reserved a hotel room for the night. Asked that she provide us a rooming list so we can make sure we have baskets for all of our guests. Why this was a challenge, I really don't know, but we had guests being told everything from the hotel was completely booked to THERE WASN'T EVEN A WEDDING THERE THAT WEEKEND. Paid the balance at the time it was due. Found out afterwards that some who RSVP'd yes were actually NO's. Asked what our options were. I assumed we weren't going to be refunded for the meals, so I asked that we be allowed to take them to our room afterwards. (Our SUITE that we booked for the entire weekend in THEIR hotel.) Was told NO, that no food could be taken out of the ballroom due to "sanitary purposes". WHAT?? We bought it. Why can't we take it to our room? Four days prior to our anticipated arrival, We email the coordinator to make sure we would have access to the ballroom and ladders to hang our ceiling decor before the tables are arranged. She THEN tells us that they will require dimensions, weights and pics of all of the decor we planned to hang from the ceiling/chandeliers. We had been crafting our decorations for THREE MONTHS and she waits FOUR DAYS prior to our wedding to tell us we needed a signed waiver to be able to use it. ***WHY wasn't this mentioned in February when we had the tasting and asked all of the questions about the decor?? Not ONCE was there ever mentioned anything about a waiver needing to be signed prior to using anything we brought to decorate. Arrived at the venue, met with the coordinator and GM - we squashed some communication issues and left them both with a "handshake waiver" and a kiss for the bride from the GM as well as another promise that we would "not be disappointed the day of with their stellar customer service". Day OF: we exit the boat, take pics and proceed to the ballroom. Dinner is served... yet for plated dinners, they still put pitchers of tea and lemonade on all the tables. TACKY. We went to great lengths to make those tables beautiful and elegant, only to have them mucked up with cheap plastic pitchers of iced tea and lemonade ... after paying $900 in GRATUITY for the event for plated dinners. Kicker #1: it was time for champagne toasts. Champagne that was already paid for. NOBODY was served champagne. Not even the bride and groom. Never saw the wedding coordinator after that. She checked out around 7pm, we were told. Kicker #2: Our contract said we were to have our bar until 11pm. Our "handshake" (with the GM) said we were to have access to the hotel bar after 11pm. The bar in our room closed down at 10:30pm. (1. Who closes the bar early at a wedding??? 2. The hotel bar closed itself down at 10pm.) So, here we are - the night of our wedding with DOZENS of friends and family who had traveled from all over the country to be with us on our big day, who didn't want to go to their rooms at 10:30pm! And here we are - after wearing ourselves to the quick with planning this wedding over the past 6 months... to now have to figure out how to host an after party for 30+ people with whatever we happened to have on hand - at 10:30pm at night.... THE NIGHT OF OUR WEDDING. When we were PROMISED to be "wowed" with their stellar customer service. My main point here - It's a beautiful hotel. On a beautiful lake. With lots of empty promises. I will say that the GM did try to make things right by comp-ing our room and associated charges for the week. But to be honest - it didn't make up for the lack of attention we received from the venue and the amount of stress we had to deal with because of their poor planning skills. Our wedding was beautiful and perfect. No thanks to the staff at Fourwinds. It's a beautiful hotel to visit and enjoy one of our State parks... but don't trust them with your memories. read more

Yes, I think this place deserve 5 stars. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. They almost scared me off. Judi was a wonderful 1st impression. She was juggling numerous tasks and still as friendly as could be. Grounds & parking lot were clean and appear safe. Hallways are really inviting. I love our room. Dated decor? Maybe a little but I think it could be better described as "traditional." I loved the crisp white linens. Plenty of towels, shampoo, etc. The shower is roomy with a laundry line you can pull out. Hairdryer, coffee supplies, micro & dishwasher. The deck is really neat, gorgeous view over the marina & waterfall. We visited the pool and it was also clean, surrounded by gorgeous stone. I was bummed that some really obnoxious young people took over the pool area with coolers of drinks. I don't even think they were guests. They were shouting profanities, racial slurs and other offensive language. We decided to go back to our room & relaxed in the super comfy bed! The fan/ac was perfect. TV was large and had all the good Channels. You do have to pay $7 to get into the park. You get reimbursed but it caught me off guard. Over all? Great getaway weekend! read more

Had been told for years that they had great pork tenderloin sandwiches. We finally went after a long hike and we were sooo disappointed. No tenderloins! An Indiana staple! They changed the menu. Service was very slow. Food was bad - we had fish and chips - 4 small square pieces of fish and cold fries. My husband the special - that should always be good right? Spicy Thai chicken flatbread. It tasted more sweet than spicy. So sad. Bad meal after a great hike. read more

My mother and I recently stayed at Fourwinds for a little weekend trip, and our stay was not great. The resort is located in a state park right next to Lake Monroe. On their website and brochures, the resort shows a sand beach, along with all kinds of rentals (kayaks, water mats, etc). Upon arriving, we were told they did not have any type of equipment rentals except inner tubes for boating and boats. So we decided to check out the beach... there was no beach. It was all mud, and no way to sit near the water without getting dirty. So that was out. Next we decided to try the hiking trails around the resort, which we were told were cleared and safe. The trails were severely overgrown and we were unable to get more than 20 feet in. There really isn't anywhere to go for a walk in this area, so we had to settle for walking around the parking lot! Also, the resort had a salt water pool, but the water was very murky and didn't look clean enough to swim in. Additionally, the gym had 2 treadmills and 1 elliptical and the elliptical was broken. The whole place is dirty with cobwebs and just needs to be cleaned and spruced up. We also had people blasting music until 1 am in the next rooms over. Finally, the only restaurant on resort grounds only serves sub par bar food, and the closest restaurant is a 25 min drive away. If you are looking to simply sleep somewhere while you boat all day, this place is fine. It's a bed and a shower. If you're hoping to do anything else at all while on the grounds, you will be crazy bored. We ended up leaving early due to all of the above, and sleeping poorly due to the loud music of other guests. Save your money and stay elsewhere. read more

Fourwinds was a great experience! We rented 7 rooms for 16 people for IU graduation weekend. We had a Lakeview Deluxe Suite with an in-suite kitchen and living room, and King bedroom/bath. We also had the adjoining 2 Double bed/bath. (Plus 4 garden view 2-Doubles and 1 Lakeview King.) The suite was PERFECT for early morning coffee and grab-and-go breakfast. Plus as a meeting point and gathering place all weekend. (FYI, we did bring a 12-cup coffee maker, in addition to the 4-cup maker provided). There's a full-size fridge, microwave, stove, oven, and dishwasher! But only silverware and dishes for four. If you're bringing a large group and planning to have a hospitality suite, you'll just need a few extras!) What made the experience the best is that the staff truly took care of us! Jillian, who made our reservations and ensured that we had a block of rooms together, which made the suite convenient to all. Milinda, who made checking into 7 rooms and managing room key cards - plus the suite - smooth and pain-free. And Cyrus, who helped on numerous occasions with printing needs and special requests without missing a beat. We did not eat at Tradewinds, but did have drinks in the Windjammer bar (with great service from Chris!), and eventually dinner at Windjammer with 13 of us. Great food (recommend nachos-for-two and ribs!), but the service was a little uneven. I'd suggest it's because they wouldn't take reservations and had uneven and untimed arrivals. I highly encourage them to consider that in the future for grad weekend, especially for large parties. The pool was great for our kids! The cover structure that rolls out over the pool was in place, and it made the experience perfect on a rainy afternoon! Overall this was a great experience! read more

We came to the marina specifically needing a slip spot for our boat. If you purchase a slip space, you automatically get a few perks to use at the actual resort. One being the use of the pool, and also an invite to a few events that happen throughout the time you are a 'member'. Speaking of the pool,.....Be prepared for the overwhelming smell of chlorine when you first step into the main lobby of the resort. The indoor pool is close to the front desk. I hope that the smell of the lobby is an indication that the pool is disinfected and clean enough if we're ever to use it. I had heard recently that the excessive use of chlorine is not always a necessary or healthy situation. The rental process to get a slip was a bit strained and frustrating. It seemed unprofessional and not so sharp. I was asking legitimate questions about the situation, and I was met with a difficult and standoffish attitude as well as a surprising general lack of knowledge. I was speaking clearly and specifically (and definitely not in Klingon) when I was discussing matters/questions, so I am not sure where the blatant disconnect was originating from. We left the office bewildered and a bit frustrated. Regardless, I am hoping I won't be dealing with them again to any great degree from here on out. I suppose the rest is to be seen and discovered as far as the rest of our experience with this resort as the summer months go on. I am curious about the 2 restaurants they have at the resort. They have mixed reviews here on Yelp. To be continued?,...... (Report at 11) **** Update: We ended up pulling our boat out of the marina and the slip. There were just too many problems to deal with as far as the management, and the upkeep and maintenance of the actual marina where the boats slips are located. When you walk in to a room only to find the bed not made, beard shavings and coke syrup in the bathroom sink, cobwebs on the lamp, and 2 trash bags outside on the patio, your first impression is kind of scarred. After letting the front desk know of the issues, my wife and I headed out for a day on the lake fishing. Once we returned through the sliding glass door that doesn't lock from the outside, by the way,we discovered nothing had been touched nearly 6-7 hours later. Beard trimmings from the previous vacationer, trash on the patio, etc. It had been a long day so we decided to hop down to the bar and grill and order some food. 12 dollars will get you 2 pieces of breaded tilapia that is marketed as cat fish as well as some limp fries. Or you could spend 12 dollars on the shrimp po boy my wife got that had 3 pieces of shrimp, and some limp fries as well. As someone who is a cook for a living, I can tell you that everything we were served was premade by GFS and just deep fried to order, nothing fresh. We get back to the room and decide to call it a night, bed was still messy from the tenants before, but who cares, we're exhausted at this point. When we wake up the next morning we find that raccoons or some other critter has gotten the (still there) bags of trash outside and strewn them all over our patio and the grass area around it. The only good thing to come of this stay was that we didn't have to pay for it, a friend had booked it and gotten sick, but this was a ~$175 a night room, and I've had better service, cleanliness, and attention to detail put fourth by the Motel 8 in town for a quarter the price. If you're looking for a summer spot and have money to waste, by all means, waste it here, but if you're sensible, you wont. read more

This place is a dump and in sorry need of a major overhaul. It's dusty, smells moldy and old, and isn't clean. Nothing like dusty old fake plants by the elevators, broken pictures on the wall, carpet stains and mold for a night. read more
