I went fishing here, and the park was lovely. It was clean, friendly people were around, and it had nice views.

I've enjoyed this park a few times in the past and really enjoyed that it's large with big green areas, the lake is gorgeous to just sit and enjoy and they do have a pavilion and a playground. Most recently I came here specifically because they have a short, well shaded, flat walking path. It's paved and wide and amazing! The basic path it just about a mile and you can go from one parking lot to the other/boat ramp. This short path was very relaxing and mainly wooded with some peeks through to the lake. They also have more extensive bike paths for the bike riders. I highly recommend this for a nice walking path or a get together in the park.

This park has two amazing things that you rarely see in any public park…read more (1) They have a free, public archery range. This is a surprisingly well maintained range as well and is almost always open. I was actually taught how to shoot an arrow here, and it made my life in high school gym must less miserable. You can make reservations to insure that the place will be free, but I have never seen it any other way. Just to be safe, call or stop by the ranger station. (2) They have a HUGE remote control air field. I know this sounds incredibly dorky, but I think it's awesome that the St. Louis County Parks System has created a park for people that build remote control airplanes and who want to fly them. My grandpa was a huge fan of remote control airplanes and he spent many many years flying the planes he built at this field. I went with him many times and it was always a blast. It's also a great place to just watch the old men and young kids fly their remote control planes...no seriously, it's entertaining. Just a forewarning: they often have a ton of loose golf balls on the field from people practicing their drives in the open space. Don't fall on any of them...I've actually seen this happen. It's a nice park to have a picnic, fly a kite, or just hang out. There's not a lot of action going on, but sometimes open space is nice. I have a soft spot for this park and always will.

My friend and I went to this park a few weeks ago with her kiddos and the kids had the best time…read moreplaying! This is a small playground, but large enough for the kids to have lots of things to do. The slides were super fun and the swings were great! Parking is plentiful and they have a clean restroom as well as a nice pavilion where you can host parties or just have a picnic. Will be back!

What is there not to do here. The park offers so many Experiences for families. You can ride your…read morebikes, scooters, etc. The park also has hiking/ walking trails. Depending on the side of the park you can get your kayak in the river. Plenty of benches for sitting and having picnics. The elevation offers a great view for the fall trees. Before coming here I did research on what are the recommended trails to hike, and what is popular with most people. The Lone Wolf and the River Scene trails were the top two, I found out. So they were at the top of my priority list. When I got to the park, I stopped in the Visitors Center (or park office?) to get a map. I did the Lone Wolf trail first, since it was the longest and supposedly the most grueling of the two. It was cool with all the lookout views and some of the decaying structures (there's a story that goes with that). But the part that annoyed me was how the trails were poorly marked. The River Scene Trail was red and the Lone Wolf trail was yellow. I knew they closed off a section of the River Scene trail due to erosion. But the map I saw online (at the park's website) and the map the park ranger gave me had two differently marked routes, which sparked a lot of confusion in me. I don't know why I got my feathers ruffled on that, but yeah. I hope they fix that section soon, or by next year. But I'll still return to check out some of the other trails!
