There are two sets of playgrounds for littles and older kids. The pavilion is nice and has great shade all around. The walk down to it from the parking lot is very steep and may be issue for those with mobility concerns. The restrooms are across the parking lot and fairly kept. Everything was so clean, the climbing gyms looked awesome, but for my toddler, he loved climbing the fake horses and tractor lol. Before coming here I did research on what are the recommended trails to hike, and what is popular with most people. The Lone Wolf and the River Scene trails were the top two, I found out. So they were at the top of my priority list. When I got to the park, I stopped in the Visitors Center (or park office?) to get a map. I did the Lone Wolf trail first, since it was the longest and supposedly the most grueling of the two. It was cool with all the lookout views and some of the decaying structures (there's a story that goes with that). But the part that annoyed me was how the trails were poorly marked. The River Scene Trail was red and the Lone Wolf trail was yellow. I knew they closed off a section of the River Scene trail due to erosion. But the map I saw online (at the park's website) and the map the park ranger gave me had two differently marked routes, which sparked a lot of confusion in me. I don't know why I got my feathers ruffled on that, but yeah. I hope they fix that section soon, or by next year. But I'll still return to check out some of the other trails!

I should start by saying that I was impressed that this park is so accessible to St. Louis City and County residents (near 141 and 44). It is well-maintained with a playground, walking paths, bathrooms (clean and well-stocked), a large covered shelter with picnic tables and a lovely lake with kayak/canoe rentals. Fishing is allowed. It was a hot day, but we enjoyed sitting in the shade, canoeing around the little lake and later seeing the sun set over the lake. I would like to return again and walk around the lake with our dog and then perhaps have a picnic on one of the covered picnic tables with a view of the lake.

It's a great distance to get some steps in, and if you want to continue your steps, you can head across Marshall near the water. It's clean, lots of wildlife, and a really lovely spot. They do a pretty good job of maintaining this park and it is always clean. That's an important factor in a good park. There isn't much traffic there so it is very private and relaxing.
