Just one of the many park benches available to sit and enjoy the view.

I really wish this park had longer hours. 6am - 12pm is just not enough time to enjoy all the beauty and unfortunately there's no nearby parking. That's the ONLY reason I did not give 5 stars. Other than that, this park is spectacular. Whether you're looking for a scenic hike, a great picnic location, or a beautiful place to cuddle up with a book this park doesn't disappoint. Even the drive up to the park is amazing. I love going right before sunrise to get some great exercise in before claiming a rock to climb up on so I can have a perfect seat for the early morning light show. All the bathrooms are always clean, too so that's a plus. I really don't have anything bad to say about this park. Here's the sunrise today looking out towards Diamond Valley Lake.

Great place for the family, hiking, Beautiful views! The wife and I loved our hike. Great for beginners, intermediate and very experienced based on what trails you take.

I came here with some local mountain bikers who wanted to show me their home turf. This place is Awesome!! Simpson park itself is gated and isn't open until 7am but as its summer and we wanted to hit the trails before the heat killed us we met at 5am on the other end of the trail(I'll have to get the name of the street for u later i don't remember it) Parked in a residential area and worked our way over to the beginning of Simpson Park. I really enjoyed the accessibility. The mountain biking trails are well marked. Fun single tracks with tight turns that feel like ur roller coaster riding. The area isn't super technical as its not strewn with rock hoppers so it's was great for me because I rag dolled enough as it is going down some stuff here. Noob!! Only downside is no shade and as the day progresses and the heat sets in there is a good chance of encountering rattlesnakes. Eeeeek!!!!!!

This is a lovely place to take your kids, dogs or just go for a run by yourself. I've been coming here for twenty years and have yet to be bored by these trails, and the beautiful views of both the valley and of Diamond Valley lake.

Checking out hiking spots every weekend and found this spot and had to give it a try. The drive was about 50 minutes from Temecula but it was a gorgeous drive, I didn't know how beautiful Hemmit was. The hike was fun, I loved climbing the rocks that were not too scary as I am afraid of heights, we spent an hour hiking around, saw bikers, dogs, and other humans, the views from the top were amazing, you can see snow capped mtns, lakes, valleys... Gorgeous!

Great local spot to go hiking. You can just do a little hike or you can go for miles. I was up there once and saw a full grown buck!

Yes, I bring my dog...However, some of the narrow trails have signs posted no dogs. I just love it there.

Today was like no other, a quite, peaceful environment where I jog up and down the angles of the sides of the riverbed. However, there is more. You can see families and freinds biking down the cement trail or riverbed area. You see joggers quite a bit as well as walkers. Right next to the riverbed is the Cauthers skate park and the apparent horse trail. I saw many skaters having thier fun on the ramps and curves and I indeed saw one horse with a guy wearing a sombrero. There is a little stream at the center of the riverbed with dry concrete at the left and right of it. I can imagine this area is much more wet when rains and storms come in, well duh. Beware, if yousee the water rising you, maybe you should leave. East of this riverbed you can see golfers at the course having fun. Sometimes, I can just stand or sit there and relax with the sound of the water and freeway and ponder deep thoughts. I wish I could exercise here more often, but my next visit may not be for a while.

Do people even remember that LA is in a river basin? I've read about people complaining that our local rivers aren't real because they're incased in cement but LA used to fear flash floods more than earthquakes before the control channels were built. The peace of mind created lead to a housing boom that paved over the local agricultural and dairy industries. In high school we used to run this all the way to the ocean. Most entrances to the river are now fenced off but I used to walk this path. (It smelled because of fertilizer and pollution.) On one side were Christmas tree lots and greenhouses next to high power electrical transmission towers. Sometimes there are stables instead. Including its tributary Coyote Creek, this is the geographical boundary between Los Angeles and Orange Counties. It would have been nice if the flood prevention dams didn't kill off grassland and marshes. The riverbed is (naturally) normally dry and usually low but that drought-look is depressing. There is often graffiti. Under riverbed bridges where roads overlap I've found personal effects of the homeless but not the people.

Luckily it was a wide fire trail but it was pretty intense!!! Keep driving until the fire road ends. There is parking and a bathroom as well. It's been recently maintained with what looks like fresh gravel. No 4x4 needed. On my way up I was appalled at the graffiti! It's disturbing that punks can't respect nature and also pollute our water. Once you are on the trailhead it's a steady incline on a very narrow trail. But it's pretty well kept and it isn't overgrown much. I only took the path up to the Stone House camp, which stupidly there is no actual "stone house" also not really a camp I could find unless the camp marker was slightly off? But I don't recommend this trail one bit. The beginning of the trail is cleared and easy to hike down. But once you get to the creek it's hell from there on in and back out. The trail literally ends at the creek. I had to cross the creek a few times repeatedly. There are huge boulders and a lot of loose rocks. There are also a lot of downed trees, and don't get me started on the gnats! Plus tons of fire ants, regular house ants, and tons of spiders and spider webs! I had repellent on and the gnats were all over me 10 fold! It was hell trying to swat them away while climbing boulders, climbing over & under trees, and crossing the creek multiple times. The creek was roaring like crazy in places and a tad scary to be honest. In one crossing I lost my balance on a slimy rock and ended up in the creek. I finally decided to turn around, and nearly fell off a section of rocks that must have been part of a landslide, because when I started putting my body weight on them they tumbled down and I ended up cutting my leg on a sharp boulder. Trying to make my way out I regretted ever venturing into this mess. My advice stay on the main trail! I never did make it to the stream crossing, so maybe next time. It's all sun and it's extremely warm so bring lots of water. I did 7.25 miles and drank all my 2L water bladder. Watch out for small snakes that look like long lizards without legs. The one I saw was when I was walking back down towards my car on the fire road. There were a few homeless up there, in their cars with a forest adventure pass. I think they stay there during the day until the trail closes. So be careful.

By doing a little bit of research, we learned it was best to go early - my husband and I got there at 7:45am in October on a Saturday and the lot was already starting to fill up. When we left at 11:30, the lot was very full. There is technically plenty of parking but the busier it is, the farther you would have to go just to get to the trailhead. We had a very good weather for hiking. It was overcast for the first hour or so, and there is shade when hiking along the creek, and it was partly cloudy on our way out. If hiking during the afternoon, I would recommend bringing twice as much water as you think you would need. Overall, the trail was long but not too difficult. The first 3 miles are fairly easy/moderate and only the very end being somewhat difficult because it is steep. We think the total hike was about 7-8 miles round-trip and took 3.5-4 hours at a moderate pace. In October 2025, the falls and creek were dried out after a hot summer and only one storm in months. It made crossing the creek a non-event (only a little mud and puddles in a few areas), but it also meant the waterfalls were non-existent. The trail was still very scenic and a fun hike. The end of the trail is still very beautiful when dry. Note, there are lots of mountain bikers so be alert and stay to the right side of the trail. No bathrooms, trash cans, or water fountains but still very clean; thanks to the regular hikers who help to clean up the trails. Please be kind to others and respectful to nature.
