Around 3:30 pm, with nothing to do around the house and growing weary of watching the kids fight over screen time on the Chromebook, we put everyone in the the truck and headed up the street to the local park. Upon arrival, the place was virtually deserted. The afternoon sun shone through the autumn maple trees, igniting in shades of yellow, crimson, and orange. A chilly breeze fight in vain against our sweatshirts as the kids clambered about on the play structure. Aunt Mary walked the dogs along the perimeter of the tennis courts. Sure, someone carved a small swastika on the outside of the plastic slide, but you just sort of shake your head at that sad element of this diverse community and focus on the good. Over the course of the hour, a few other families showed up, as did the ice cream man in his van. The kids got a little exercise, Mrs. Picante and I enjoyed an autumn sunset in the 951, and we didn't need to shoo away any vagrants. I love it when San Jacinto/Hemet stars align.

I visited tonight for a Movie Under the Stars event hosted by the City of Hemet and it was amazing! My family and I enjoyed Moana 2 as we relaxed in the cool air and freshly trimmed grass. Mary Henley has a nice view of the San Jacinto mountains and has plenty of shade. I love the trees surrounding the park! My only complaint would be the nasty bathrooms. There's a button for flushing but it didn't work! Also, bring bug spray, there's quite a few June bugs flying around!

The location is easy to find and there's plenty of parking. Granted parking can be a little tricky. There are only so many spots in the actual parking lots. And if you have games being played on all fields, all day, parking can be tight. However, there's a big dirt lot in between both parking lots that you can park on. Just look for the driveway cutout to enter. The fields: Natural grass which is always a nice treat. However, these fields aren't in the best condition. There were a lot of holes, slopes and rough spots. My son's home field is natural grass too, but these fields were in pretty bad shape. The bathrooms: In between the soccer fields are two unisex bathrooms. Neither of which have lights. So if you're playing a late game, bring a headlamp or flashlight. And the lock to the one on the right stuck. It took me about two minutes (and that's a long two minutes when you're freaking out because you're locked in a public bathroom. I thought "I'm either going to have to call my husband to break the door down to get me out or call 911." Thankfully I managed to "escape" but avoided that bathroom for the rest of the day. I got lucky once but wasn't sure my luck would hold out.

I kept driving until I saw Pond 1 and I parked in the huge gray pebbled parking lot. I walked along the upper path between both ponds on both sides of me. I took many pictures & videos. I walked until I saw Marsh U and that is where I saw a skunk !!! I have never encountered one during the day. The skunk saw me and ran in the other direction. I wish I brought bug repellent. I was covered in bugs I knew something bit me on my arm. The place felt very eerie walking through there with no one around. I suppose the best times to visit are spring & winter! Enjoy my photos :)

Sure, the area is not the greatest, and the locals are definitely... interesting, but once you get past all that, this dog park is kind of a hidden gem. The park itself is huge.
