Daughter recently went for three days here and had a lot of good things to say about the food and staff! She enjoyed the rocket launch, stargazing, zip line, and the lift up into the tree. First true experience away from home without family like many others. She only had good things to say about the staff and food options. Luckily no bed bug issues like prior reviews. Shout out to Beatrice for being awesome with the kids! -2 stars for the bathroom/shower situations. It doesn't sound like there are many bathrooms for the amount of kids there. She mentioned some being clogged and feeling rushed due to several others needing to use the bathrooms. There were so many activities that she felt like there weren't many breaks to use the bathroom. In her dorm there were only 2 bathrooms/showers. They got back late after 9pm and rushed to squeeze people through to shower. People were barging in having to use the bathroom as others showered. Apparently the shower curtain was so minimal, another girl used an extra bed sheet to help create privacy, which all the girls appreciated. Maybe add a couple port-a-potties?! Might be wrong, but also sounded like not many trustworthy sources for water and hydration outside of meal time. read more

This was my second time chaperoning at AstroCamp and it was just as great as the first. The kids had space to drop their bags, the meadow was perfect for hanging out, and the Pine Dorm easily fit our group. Showers for chaperones were really nice and the kids' worked fine too. The staff was amazing! Patient, fun, and great with the kids. Lincoln, Scout, Spencer, and Steve were favorites. The food was easily the best camp food we've had. They had their day of helping with setup and cleanup which taught teamwork. Activities were nonstop fun with zipline, Skycoaster, rockets, stargazing, climbing, and even microgravity in the pool. The chaperone lounge with Wi-Fi, coffee, and snacks was a lifesaver. Big shoutout to Josh, the director, for keeping everything running smooth. AstroCamp has been an awesome experience both times. Last weekend, I was a chaperone for my son's stay at AstroCamp. Here are my thoughts. 1. When we arrived, the sun was shining and the sky was clear. The kids were given an hour or so to play in the Meadows. It was open and expansive - a very refreshing change of scenery from the city. It was giving summer camp vibes. 2. The activities were well planned and the three meals a day were healthy and and delicious. I appreciate that the kids were expected to keep the dining hall clean and help with setting up for the meals. 3. The staff was genuinely purposeful in making it a good experience for all the kids. We've gone camping on many occasions and it always feel as though there were too much downtime. AstroCamp enabled my son to really enjoy being up in the mountains with all their activities. Would we go back? Maybe not. But... I do encourage every kid to experience it at least once. Personally, I think the ideal age group is 10 to 15. It's essentially an extended sleepover with their friends. read more

The place was amazing and the activities are really well thought out. I still remember a lot of what I learned such as facts from mars during the rock climbing activity. Beware. Kids's dorms are infested with bedbugs. Sorry to give a one star review, the rest of the camp seems great, but several of the kids on the trip had lots of bedbugs bites from the first night they were there and the whole school had to go through a full decontamination on the way home. *** edit. There are 3 separate reviews from two different schools that were affected by the bedbugs. The bedbugs were found by our school admin and after a search, found evidence in all of the boy's rooms. Not just an adult bedbug that AstroCamp suggested was brought in by one of our students. There is a bedbug problem, it is widespread, and we're happy that our school supervisor caught it and the kids didn't bring them home to all their houses. Suggesting that it was a problem brought in by our school makes no sense. One of our school's kids was covered in bites on the first night they stayed and again on the 2nd night. Again, I'm happy to remove this review when AstroCamp can show that they have done full bedbug remediation (from an outside contractor) read more

For how much they're charging, you would hope that you can see at least one solo photo of your kids engaged in some activity. It is just not fair to see a lot of kids with great photos and a LOT OF IT and only see yours in a few lame ones mostly in a group sitting around. Whether he had fun or not, no pictures to show. I don't know how they make this place so amazing for kids in the high desert in the summertime, but my teen LOVES IT! She totally unwinds from the intense academic year and has fun! It is loving, active, non-competitive, and silly.The staff are fantastic, and apparently even the food is great. I wish they offered a winter break session. read more

My daughter went camping here with her schoolmates. She had so much fun and learned a lot of cool things. She really enjoyed every activity they had to offer. She's already saying she want to go next year but in the summer. 10/10 she will go again! read more

My sons just came home from camp and had a BLAST. This was a great educational and class bonding experience. Mad props to Heather in the business office - i called to let her know that my son lost his wallet and to give her my info if it was found. After taking my info, we chatted briefly and she realized my son didn't buy his souvenir sweatshirt while he was there because he lost his wallet and didn't have a way to call me. She immediately got one in the mail to us, at no charge, because she felt bad that he didn't get to take one home with him. AMAZING read more

This is my first year at Astrocamp. I came with teachers and 35 fifth graders. We were lucky to be placed at Willow lodge- the rooms were clean and we had our own chaperone bathroom :) Hooray for not having to share with the students. Our head counselor was Kyle. I was in Hallie's group. My teaching partner and I kept commenting on how well they knew the material how positive they stayed throughout the couple days with our rambunctious group. They were so flexible to allow us to make changes to student groupings and stayed consistently patient even though some students kept shouting out or having melt downs. We were the most amazed by the quality of service and hospitality when we hit a "bump in the road". Our bus ended up being seven hours late. On a normal Friday, other schools might have been present and we could have just paid extra for more activities and meals to occupy the children's worried minds. However, this past Friday, it was the end of the season, so the camp chaperones went home or went on vacation. In other words, we were one of the only ones left at camp. Michelle, the camp director, went over and beyond. Kyle stayed with us until the very end when we boarded the bus.The staff brought out a continuous stream of snacks to keep the children satisfied and worked with us to open the Star Gallery so the kids could keep watching movies. I was moved to tears when I heard Michelle tell her staff on the radio to give us their dinner FIRST before they ate. Being that it was the end of the year, they were having a party/banquet that was for their staff. Michelle told her staff that we could partake of their food...they totally didn't have to do this but the staff stayed and worked extra to ensure we were well taken care of. The visible acts of love and service that the Astrocamp staff displayed were so obvious to our students. They left camp with this memorable experience and many shared how moved they were to see this. Thank you for setting the best kind of example to our students to remind them about what teaching and giving is all about. We can't wait to be back next year! My only regret is that I wish there was an Astrocamp for just adults. Would have loved to return with my friends...=] read more

My kid (7th grade) just came back from 2 days at this camp with his school and the dorms were infested with BED BUGS. Some of the kids were covered in bites. The kids were only there for 2 days, so I highly doubt the bugs had time to spread the way they did if they were coming from the kids at our school. Astrocamp clearly didn't check and clean the rooms properly before the classes showed up. Some of the school supervisors should have clearly also checked all the beds first, when the kids arrived, considering there's currently a bed bug issue, mostly in Europe -- but still. Astrocamp was beyond amazing! I chaperoned for Medea Creek's 8th grade class this week and had the time of my life. We learned so much and the staff was fantastic. Our group in particular had Sam (the sloth) as our instructor, he engaged the group in team building exercises, took people out of their comfort zone, and blew our minds with the amount of talent, skills and knowledge he has. He was thoughtful, caring, and hysterical. We are so thankful for such a passionate instructor to guide us through the three days of Astrocamp. I HIGHLY recommend Astrocamp to everyone! I secretly wish they offered a camp for adults, because this trip surely brought out my inner astro-physics nerd. Thanks a million times over, such an out of this world experience! read more

This is my sons second time to Astrocamp and I had the opportunity to chaperone this time. It was an amazing experience - far better than the camps I went to as a kid. Very well organized, and a perfect balance between fun and learning. This is the type of setting that makes kids WANT to learn. It sparked an interest in science for my son and he bonded closer with his classmates. The activities were interesting, the teachers were knowledgeable and the experiments were fun. We learned about lasers, elements, gases, sound waves, solids liquids gases, used dry ice and liquid nitrogen for some experiments, and of course looked through several telescopes. I can't even remember all the things we did. The facilities were like being on vacation in the mountains. Very clean and well maintained. The kids were all very tired at the end of every busy day. We did zip lining, a sky swing ( liked this even better than the zip line), rock climbing, basketball and handball. I would highly recommend this camp and look forward to brining my other kid next year. read more

I wouldn't know where to start from. When a camp has a policy that visiting kids cannot communicate with their parents at all, they should at least be able to monitor kids and evaluate when someone is sick and parents need to be called. My daughter cried for 3 days straight and nobody allowed her to call us.... She also did not eat for 3 days ( I hear the food is not healthy, sometimes stale and tasting old). It is good maybe for kids that don't know any better and eat McDonald on a weekly basis. When the morning of day 3 my daughter woke up she was sick in her stomach with bad cramping. One of the people there helped her to try and eat something, but she threw up everything. After that a nice soul gave her a banana that was only offered in the adults buffet and she was able to keep it down. My daughter camp home like a wreck: when she camp out of the bus she was exhausted from the lack of sleep and feeling sick. To make the long story short, this extremely stressful experience triggered a very bad autoimmune disease JDM that she will have to deal for the rest of her life. This was a highly traumatic experience for my kid and nobody had the skills to recognize it or to inform us. I am absolutely angry and disappointed of this kind of disorganization. Greatest times back when I was in the 6th grade(23 now!) there was EVERYTHING you can do that was fun and educating, Lots of laughs and unmemorable moments, the breakfast was the best! The "white wall light room" was interesting still wonder on how the walls were glowing after that flash? We made our own rockets out of 2 liters and shot it up to the sky, the gas room where we played with difference gasses was really cool. By far memorable moments, and it would not have been like that if we didn't have the coolest chaperones. WOW! From start to finish, this trip was a great experience for our students and parents at Grace Christian School! I was lucky enough to attend this trip with my daughter as a chaperone. I loved watching her learn and grow while learning about science. She learned to work in a group, conquer her fears and made wonderful memories with her friends. The staff run this camp like a well oiled machine. The schedule is flawless and the activities are well balanced. Some classroom learning and some hands on kinesthetic learning. The instructors really know their stuff and their enthusiasm for science shows (Chris was awesome!). My only suggestion is that the chaperone's be able to zip line and sky coast too :) We do pay full price for the trip after all and it's not a sit back and eat bon-bons kind of trip for the adults by any means. The dorms are suitable for both kids and adults. Love the fact that we had a warm, comfortable place to sleep and hot showers! All joking aside, I'd do it again in a heartbeat and glad to see this organization putting on a great program for kids, even in the age of COVID. read more

I had the luxury of being able to work here at AstroCamp and from the time spent here I can say that this place is something else. It really is a model of how camps should be run as all the staff working here are so involved with the children and truly make the time there so amazing for them. The staff, from the Director down to the various counselors, are all top notch and interact well with one another. It seemed like everyday there were new fun activities for the children as well as a wide variety of electives and classes the children could take from Larping to Archery. Their day is well planned out and each activity never seemed repetitive which I believe is a huge thing for them to constantly introduce new games for the children to do. The camp itself hosts a large number of impressive activities from an escape room, to a zipline course. Overall, if you have children who want to spend a week or two of their summer learning and having the time of their life I highly recommend coming up to Astrocamp! read more

A very big disappointment. January 2019. My daughter attended this camp with her school, Saint Martin Academy, from La Mesa, Ca and the first thing she said whn I picked her up is that it was AWFUL. When I asked her to name a couple of things she would change about it she stated, to make sure they have nice counselors who like kids, who are positive and fun and to CANCEL outdoor activities if raining. Some of her classmates and she were getting soaking wet in mid- January, temperatures lower to 50 degrees, students were crying and they were forced to stay outdoors against their will. Do NOT recommend this camp at all. I reported this situation to school as well. read more
