This review is well overdue. I got married here over a decade ago and it was an amazing experience! I believe our coordinator's name was Diane at the time. The food was delicious, staff were friendly and professional, and my day went off without a hitch as they say. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Bill Clowney and the Grey Rock Mansion staff for an amazing experience of the wedding of our son and his beautiful bride on Sunday, May 30, 2021. From the moment we entered the historic property of the mansion, it simply felt like home! No fuss with finding a parking space, no other loud parties, anniversaries, weddings, bands etc., to compete with at Grey Rock Mansion. It was just us - our family and friends sharing a special, private moment with our Brock and Kori Carter! The lush outdoor garden wedding was extraordinary, and the tent was airy and absolutely stunning with chandeliers and strings of beads and lights streaming from the ceiling. Brock and Kori chose a Sunday brunch. The food was so delicious - sweet bites of pancakes and waffles, hickory bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, spicy shrimp, and grits, along with salmon, chicken, fresh vegetables, and the omelet station. The staff was very attentive, professional, and kind. I loved that their uniforms were so clean and formal. Often the staff at many of the hotels and restaurants have very worn white shirts and dingy sleeves. Not the Grey Rock mansion staff! It was like Sunday Best!!! It was really a charming afternoon of tea, coffee, and bottomless Champagne, Bellini cocktails, scrumptious deserts/food, and lots of dancing in the ballroom. Nice enough location and facility My family had the funeral service for my Grandmother at Grey Rock. It was easy to get to and the food was pretty good. The mansion shows its age, but is still nice. And the staff was accommodating. The rooms are smaller and we had to transition between them to make things work. A/V support was basic, meaning we had a small setup showing slides of pictures of Grandma in a room and then had to take it down and reassemble it in another room when we transitioned segments of our service. We also had to bring our own computer and flatscreen. Summary: Good but unremarkable. read more

I attended a wedding at this location. It's a gorgeous place! The staff if pretty helpful too, but when you can get their attention. During the dinner service, a person at my table didn't receive a salad. It took a while to get him one. As far as food, it's just ok for wedding food. It's not the best, but decent enough. I preferred the cocktail passed appetizers over the actual dinner. The layout of the place forces the party to have to move during different parts of the reception. The one thing I wish they had more of was seating during the cocktail hour and dancing portions of the reception. read more

I am very disappointed with how my wedding turned out... I used this caterer for my wedding at a different location. In the beginning, the process was great, communication was nice, and we were able to go to multiple tastings and edit our menu... Fast forward to the day of. I was greeted by a few people, two of which were very rude. The woman assigned to help my husband and I was absolutely amazing. If it weren't for her, I'm sure I would've had a more stressful day. My guests complained about the supervisor, Luis, and how rude he was to them. The other woman, Alison?? I'm not sure of her name, was rude from the beginning.. She was rude to my guests and was kicking them out at the end of the night.. Exactly at the end of contract, once it hit 10:30, she was rushing them out. The food was VERY upsetting! The salmon came out correct however they made the wrong chicken. We didn't receive our lemon chicken..instead it was this weird tomato based chicken. We also purchased delicious roasted vegetables... I was given ONE piece of broccoli and it tasted as if it were sitting in a container for hours. Not one of my guests liked the vegetables.. or lack of vegetables. My mashed potatoes were also non-existent. We were told and shown the portions we were supposed to receive and they did not give us those portions. I felt like I was ripped off. They also did not set up for the Chinese tea ceremony as requested. This was requested awhile back and was discussed on rehearsal and over the phone. That made it difficult, since I had to go to two different tables.. Fingers crossed my photographer got good angles... My cake was also not located in the correct spot. It was put in a tight corner and majority of my guests were unable to watch the cake cutting. I hope my photographer was able to get pictures. Towards the end of the planning process, Diane started to get short and rude in her responses to my emails. Another woman went to the rehearsal and I worked with her throughout the rest of the process. She didn't know anything that was going on and seemed to have been thrown into the job last minute for my wedding. It showed because there were so many errors. Both of them were not at the wedding. I would not recommend this caterer due to the issues we encountered. I gave two stars for the woman who was amazing throughout the night and worked hard to help me. read more

Attending a wedding a couple weeks ago at historic society. Things were going decently, staff was doing their job as expected. The bar starts to run out of glasses and no solution seems to be arising. Not the end of the world because it's towards the end of the night. Shortly after that, bride tells her bridesmaids (of which I am one) to grab a drink the bar is about to close. I get over there and get a drink, there's a group behind me that appeared to be in so another bridesmaid stands behind them. A tall man with a creepy thin mustache (seems to be a shift leader or manager) decides he's cutting the bar off right behind me. At this time the other bridesmaid realizes that the group in front of her is not in line and asked if she was able to get a drink since it was obvious we thought the group was in line and he SAW HER standing there waiting. The other bridesmaid kindly said she was standing there because the bride told us the bar was closing. Not only did this 'manager' escalate the situation for no reason, I believe the exact quote was 'that's ignorant to get the bride and groom involved' (another review said a guy named Luis, I think that might be him. Taller, thin mustache) Excuse me?!?! First of all, learn how to use the word correctly. Oh wait, I forgot that this is why I moved away from Baltimore and out of Maryland - because of the complete lack of caring that you sound like a moron, that a lot of Baltimore has. Secondly, did you really just say that to guests / customers, let alone the bridesmaids who are likely THE CLOSEST PEOPLE TO THE BRIDE AND GROOM?! Thirdly, did you pick the only 2 people attending the wedding who WORK IN HOSPITALITY (hotels), specifically one who has a side job working events just like this, in locations with out catering facilities? Yup, you did. Good job. Me and the other bridesmaid then go up to the bride and groom and calmly just mention that the guy who appears to be a manager was just ridiculously rude to us. The manager than comes over with a raised voice (mind you he also has no idea if we even told the bride and groom because we were talking calmly...) and just starts defending himself. Way to put the icing on the cake and make yourself look worse by bursting over and saying something when you don't have a clue what we said to the new married couple. We actually had to ask him to leave because we were done talking to him about the situation and we weren't about to have the bride and groom get upset. It's a shame that one of your employees caused this negative review. The rest of your staff seemed all right. One lady in particular, had an accent from a Caribbean island, was lovely, before the ceremony started, she came over the bride and maids, got us situated, reminded us to drink water and ready to go! I think she could tell we looked a little nervous and scattered but she knew what to do. Got the brides veil and dress laying perfectly, etc. she should probably be the person to shut down the bar in the future. I'm sure she would be a thousand times more appropriate. read more

My office used Simply Elegant to cater our annual picnic. The food just wasn't very good. The corn on the cob was overcooked and not sweet. The veggie burgers were extremely mushy and tasteless. The buns for the hamburgers and hot dogs were soggy because the bags had condensation in them. One of my coworkers had a tomato on her burger and it had gone bad. The only option for cheese on the burgers was american cheese - which is not my definition of 'simply elegant'. The potato salad was decent. The meal was expensive ($15 per head) and it didn't taste good. At best, it was mediocre. read more

Our wedding at Grey Rock Mansion was amazing! The food that Simply Elegant Catering provided was also outstanding! Their team is very helpful, professional and I consider the entire staff wedding experts. Nancy and Diane were great to work with and they provided me with great suggestions in order to make our wedding day as what we envisioned it to be. During the day of our wedding, the Grey Rock and Simply Elegant Catering staff coordinated well with our other vendors to ensure that the night will go smoothly. Their staff is very friendly, accommodating and professional. I HIGHLY recommend Simply Elegant Catering at Grey Rock Mansion. I recently had my wedding reception at grey rock mansion 6-24-17. The staff, food, and service truly exceeded my expectation. The owner was very professional, kind and polite. Planning a wedding is extremely time consuming and stressful. But the owner did everything in his power to make sure I had everything I wanted exactly how I wanted it. From the time my party arrived to the venue up until the last person left, the staff honestly and truly out did themselves. One of the staff members, Ms. Caline waited with my bridal party when we arrived. Brought hors doeuvres to the bridal suite, she even bustled my dress!!! It's the small gestures like that, that make people feel special. The owner checked in with me after it was all said and done an asked "If I could change anything what would it be?" My answer, absolutely NOTHING. Words can't express how grateful I still feel to have had such an amazing experience. Thank You Mr. Clowney and Staff! Attended a wedding here a few weeks ago and the facility was absolutely breathtaking. The reception was set up in the tent which was beautifully draped and had views of the outside garden and gazebo. The food was incredible but also had great presentation. The staff was pleasant and seemed to go above and beyond to assist guests (I noticed them helping ladies up and down the stairs, which you don't often see.) All around a great experience.
