I don't know exactly what pistachio mousse tastes like but I wouldn't have guessed it was that if I hadn't read the description. I also couldn't taste the Frangelico that was supposed to be there. The cake looked pretty and tasted good but the birthday boy thought it was a little dry. The service at the counter was friendly and helpful. I think the next time I need a special cake I would try preordering. Some of their other flavors looked really good but they were out of stock.

I also like that this location has longer business hours than most GF bakeries and serves breakfast all day as well as lunch items. Another big plus is the allergens are clearly labeled online and in the shop. However, I've had negative experiences here on 3 consecutive visits. I go here for my gluten free partner. On one of the visits, I ordered a stuffed bagel and waited for 15 minutes before going back up to the counter to say that I still hadn't received my order. It was busy, but by this time, the person standing at the counter had nothing to do. They apologized and made my order then, but the experience left a bad impression on me since it was my first time eating inside the bakery. On my next visit, I ordered several items inside the bakery to take home with my pickup order and received a pain de chocolate instead of a cinnamon donut, which I didn't notice until I got home. The pain de chocolate costs more and my partner wasn't able to share it with me due to a soy allergy. I suppose I could've been paying more attention, but these items don't have similar names at all, so I was not expecting this error. That said, I made a mental note to pay more attention when ordering inside the bake shop for future orders. On my next visit, I ordered a mocha cupcake and berry muffin, but the cashier rang me up for a hand pie instead of a muffin. Again, the hand pie was more expensive. This time I caught it and asked for it to be corrected. I work in customer service and I act with kindness when mistakes are made because we're only human. However, I believe 3 negative experiences in a row shows a pattern and warrants some attention. I will continue to patronize this business due to the reasons I mentioned at the beginning of this review, but I will now have to be vigilant in ensuring that I receive the correct items and am charged the correct amount. This of course is not ideal. I hope service improves.

Street parking is the only option. Today, on a play date, I asked my daughter and friend if they wanted a cupcake - YEAH! The permanently drawn hopscotch and flowers on the sidewalk adjacent to the store was a nice touch. The two littles hopscotched their way to the front door. The hours are clearly printed on the door with adornments in the windows to be seen from the outside. Inside the store is quaint. The cupcake display is upfront with the register to the left. We were immediately greeted upon entering. We were the only group inside. At 12:30PM the display case was fairly empty, using cupcake name plates to determine if I wanted any not displayed - I did, one. The young lady behind the counter was in the middle of bringing out an oversized tub of cupcakes to fill the display as we entered. There were about 25 cupcake flavors to choose from with some being vegan including 3 additional dessert options. We each made our selection - vanilla bean, vanilla chocolate, lemon drop, Meyer lemon cream - each $4.75 and packaged individually upon request. Mobile pay, credit/debit and cash were options of payment. The cupcakes are smedium (small medium) in size. The vanilla bean frosting was enjoyed by my daughter. The cupcake itself did not taste like vanilla, more yellow cake forward and was a bit dry. The vanilla chocolate was devoured by my daughter's friend - she enjoyed. The lemon drop was lemon forward, the cupcake was moist, frosting thick. The Meyer lemon was a sweet, lemon forward cupcake, moist with a lemon curd my husband enjoyed.

I was even asked, what size do you want? And there was multiple sizes, all I could guess by hand, was small and big.. but I didn't know the other sizes names...due to not being told. I was super rushed and was the only one in line. Weird. I was so excited to try, but the experience made everything change. Customer service was terrible. I wanted to take photos and videos to make a review and I was basically questioned as to why I was doing so... I informed her, that I was apart of the yelp community and then I was rudely asked. Their primary focus appears to be on their special order cakes-which look amazing. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. After asking a few questions, I decided on the Passion Coco cake($5) and the Brown Sugar Pecan scone ($3.50). I enjoyed the Passion Coco cake slice. The coconut, passion fruit, and strawberry flavors worked well together, although the passion fruit flavor was very subtle. The sponge was cake moist, and the butter cream was spot on with its melt-in-your-mouth creamy texture. The Brown Sugar Pecan scone was good, but it had more of a dense muffin texture than a traditional scone, and the flavors were a bit muted. They did not skimp on the pecans though, which was nice. I would have enjoyed bolder flavors and a more traditional scone texture. Overall, I found that the walk in options are limited, but a great spot for locals to stop in and pick up tasty baked goods-and I would definitely order one of their beautiful and delicious looking cakes for a special occasion.

I've heard many things about Gregory's Gourmet Desserts but tried it today for the first time…read more Parking was a challenge, with the location being nestled within downtown, closer to Lake Merritt. I was surprised that no one spoke of business specifics in their reviews. There is a limit to how many can come in; and you are not allowed to touch anything when inside. There are also no prices listed anywhere. We thought this was odd. Our order: * Personal Peach Cobbler * Walnut Brownie * Banana Pudding For these 3 items, our total was over $25. The service was friendly but a bit awkward. You are only able to see cases of dessert options, it is more of a pick-up point, not so much a bakery location you can browse. I wouldn't suggest coming as a large group, there is no where to sit to enjoy your baked goods and parking is very difficult. While the cobbler and banana pudding were good, I wasn't a fan of the brownie. My partner enjoyed the cobbler a lot, but when we did the calculations, the prices were astronomical. I'm not sure what gourmet difference the items contained, but we likely would not come back to this bakery considering prices and parking. The location is cute, in theory, but with no actual location or displays, or price lists- what you pay for doesn't balance out. The lack of transparency for prices was very sus to us. I'm sure the business will continue on especially with how much they charged. I can't imagine the bakery location and building rent costing a lot as far as operating costs; as it is small, and not expansive at all. The price of the baked goods doesn't even go towards branded packaging. Which could be understandable. The only beverages available that I seen was Nesquik. Steep prices with no justification - especially when you have other bakeries in the area, in addition to Nation's for Pies, very affordable and classic as well. E&J's has a great banana pudding and cobbler as well for $6- they are also a Black-owned business and family operated. Absolutely no bad intent, just wanting to share transparency in my review so Yelpers know that prices are not listed, which means they are subject to fluctuation- in this economy that is not a fair way of doing business. One star per item we liked, for this review. As much signage is visible upon entry regarding rules and limited persons for entry at a time- not one area provided prices; only signs that tell you not to touch. It's required by law for prices at every establishment to be listed, according to SB 478 for general consumer goods and services in California.
