Vegetarian breakfast and the full English
    Jamael K.

The vegetarian breakfast here is lovely - the hash brown in particular seemed to me to be home made. The bread is thick and fluffy and comes with marmalade which I thought was a nice individual touch. The full english also got good feedback and they have a nice selection of tea but I was a bit disappointed they didn't have soya milk for the coffee. The view out to the gardens on a sunny day topped it off and I'll definitely be back to this hidden gem.

Enjoyed patio dining in the evening without a wait. Everyone is so lovely and charming here, including their guests. I am a big fan of their chef, what a wonderful host she is! She made accommodations for my love since he couldn't have anything on the menu being gluten free. She created a dish for him specifically. She made the most incredible butter fish and he loved it. I was craving the Maldon Rock oysters and loved the vibe here. The presentation of all their dishes is beautiful art. Did you see the oyster picture???? I had the St Austell mussels and the cream sauce is spectacular like melted goodness dripping in each taste. Who would think almonds could be paired with mussels???!!! Ooeemmggee. I almost went with the rum baba dessert. But the lemon verbena panna cotta is superb with the delicate white chocolate and pistachio crumbles. Come sit here. Be at peace with whatever. Leave control to the staff to entertain and host you. Do your best to not smile too big at The Garrison.

The space itself is beautiful decorated - some trendy wall paper paired with warm wood tones. Its inviting, cozy, has a very pretty bar. We were seated in the main dining room where the manager explained to us that the Brigade is a social enterprise. Meaning, they help to employ and educate members of the homeless community in London so that they can lift themselves out of poverty and enter into the food/bev industry. Great food with a great cause, SIGN ME UP! On to the food - it was VERY good. We ordered two local beers. I loved mine, it was a mead style that wasn't too sweet, but perfect to wash down all the noms. We started with sourdough bread. This was perfectly toasted and paired with butter topped with crystalized salt. YUM. We also had roasted bone marrow and the cornish rump of beef. The bone marrow was good but it was the beef that really blew me away. Brigade uses local London ingredients and this beef was no exception. It was perfectly cooked to rare and I enjoyed every bite. We also got a side of chips, because carbs are life. These chips were SO GOOD. Admittedly, we came to Brigade because we saw a photo on Yelp with fish and chips, which they no longer serve. So happy we ended up here to explore the menu, as a meal filled with carbs and beef is always on my favorites list, and it was no different here. Service was super friendly, and we ended up getting a discount on the bill because they had a promotion going on in November. Double win!

We were immediately sold. We lucked out on a table during a hopping Sunday and were able to snag the last couple plates of their Sunday Roast. The roast was fantastic! They immediately noticed our American accents and chatted us up on where we were from, how we were liking London, etc. They were just overall very friendly and welcoming. Before I go on, I have to thank the staff for allowing us to be seated because the restaurant was fully booked yet they managed to squeeze us in. That was so generous of them and we just want to acknowledge them. Ok. So, the portion was generous and beautifully plated. The steak was tender, rich, and slow-cooked to perfection, packed with deep, savory flavor from the ale. Every bite was hearty and comforting -- exactly what you want when you're in London. The gravy was silky and robust, perfect for dipping those thick-cut chips, which were golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It also came with fresh greens, roasted tomatoes, and crispy onion rings that added great texture and balance to the dish. You can tell this is proper pub food done right -- no shortcuts, just bold, satisfying flavor. If you're looking for a classic, filling English meal that absolutely delivers, this is it. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. Not a bad start to our first night in London. Bonus: They have a downstairs pub that stretches across 3-4 rooms so definitely grab yourself a pint after dinner. Charles Dickens visited the site when it was a coffee house and it's mentioned in Little Dorrit. But the real reason to visit is for the food. Borough market, just across the road may offer a world of different foods, but The George Inn offers traditional British pub food at its best, in warm, historic rooms. This is your place if you're looking for authentic fish 'n chips--they're fresh, lightly battered and perfectly fried without being greasy. I also had the mac 'n cheese which used real vintage/sharp cheddar--and a lot of it--excellent! So you'll get good food while enjoying a historic inn where, for hundreds of years, travelers changed horses, got food, drink, and lodging before the railway era. IMPORTANT TIP: You order food at the bar--but you will need a table number. So you'll need someone in your party to sit at a table in the adjoining room. There'll be a brass plate with a number on it which you'll give when you order--so the food can be brought to your table.

They have serval long tables and benches to sit on for dine in. You order at the counter and they make your order right in front of you as the food is already prepared. They offer beverages to purchase and the utensils are on the left side. Since this will be the only time I'm coming to eat here, I ordered their Eels & Mash. Mink got the 1 Pie 1 Mash. I've eaten eel a bunch growing up so I knew what it would taste like. The counter lady even asked if I ate eel before as I was ordering lol. I suppose that's good they look out for customers who never had it before and may not like it. The eel was ok but I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce. They are very generous with the mashed potatoes. It's recommended to add lots of vinegar to the dish. They offer regular vinegar and one with chilis inside. I went for the ones with chili. The offerings are humble and an acquired taste. I'm so happy that I tried it and got to see what the fuss was all about.
