We have a love for all styles of pizza as we lived in Chicago and became huge Lou Maltnati's fans, we lived in Ohio and love that midwestern style of crispy crust, and I am from Detroit and love the Detroit style. So what about NY style? I enjoy it but I cannot say Tri Cities has great pizza. Simms deserves all of the positive reviews. Their NY style was really good. The crust was quite thin, which made it floppy (I would have preferred it to be crispier) but the crust is amazing. As we drove home the yeast from the crust was tantalizing. The Stromboli was good but not great; we like Stromboli with a garlic butter sauce inside using sliced Italian meats vs a pizza toppings and sauce interior. We ordered the pizza directly on the Yelp app and had about a 10-minute drive to get there. By the time we arrived the pizza and a Stromboli were ready. I expected better food than what I ate. I ordered a margarita pizza and noticed the pizza dough was similar to the ones you buy premade. It had holes in it and was pretty bland in taste. Pizza is tasty but being from PA originally where every pizza shop was run by transplant Italians from NY and NJ this really doesn't resemble NY Style pie in the northeast which has a much lighter dance of ingredients. Just search "NY Slice" and click on images and you'll see how thin and understated the slice is .This is closer to typical Southern Pizza with a heavy dough and overly cheesy and saucy ...the kind where you pick up a slice and the ingredients will slide off into the middle of the box if you're not careful. This certainly would not pass the Dave Portnoy "very little flop" test :-) . If you're into the doughy Mellow Mushroom type pie you'll like this. After extensive research in the Tri-Cities area, I have come to the conclusion that Simms is my favorite pizza place. There was a lot of competition and I spent countless hours sampling each choice, but Simms has beat them out. I like thin New York style, unless I am in one of my rare moods for Chicago style, and Simms is the closest I have found that compares to the pizza I have eaten in NYC and New Haven. I can't seem to leave without one of their fabulous salads either. Pizza places seem to have really great salads because of all the fresh toppings available. This one is piled high with mozzarella. I'll start off by saying, I've been a customer of Simms for over 15 years, and the food has been good. Over the last several times however, it has been a continual slide in quality, and increase in price!! To pay $28 plus for a large supreme pizza is crazy! But the pizza had absolutely no beef on it! Lots less pepperoni, and the fillers were lots of sauce, peppers, and the lack of mozzarella was noticed right off the bat. We ate maybe 3 pieces, and threw the rest away.
