Very solid pizza. We have a love for all styles of pizza as we lived in Chicago and became huge Lou Maltnati's fans, we lived in Ohio and love that midwestern style of crispy crust, and I am from Detroit and love the Detroit style. So what about NY style? I enjoy it but I cannot say Tri Cities has great pizza. Simms deserves all of the positive reviews. Their NY style was really good. The crust was quite thin, which made it floppy (I would have preferred it to be crispier) but the crust is amazing. As we drove home the yeast from the crust was tantalizing. The Stromboli was good but not great; we like Stromboli with a garlic butter sauce inside using sliced Italian meats vs a pizza toppings and sauce interior. We ordered the pizza directly on the Yelp app and had about a 10-minute drive to get there. By the time we arrived the pizza and a Stromboli were ready. They do have a nice interior with tables available for those who want to eat their pizza onsite.

Scratch made pizza, so be willing to wait if dining in. Call ahead of time to pickup. They use the best and expensive cheeses. You won't be disappointed by the price for the slice. Not kidding! Don't miss this little hole-in-the.wall spot on Roan Street next to FoodCity. Excellent pizza! Hot, cheesy, crispy crust and fresh ingredients

There is one other restaurant as well as several businesses using this parking area so there is always traffic. Handicapped parking is limited with a couple spaces near their entrance and a couple more spaces further away from the door. You'll need to look for a ramp if needed as there is not one by their entrance, but that is not their fault. Walking in for lunch, there was a sign to seat yourself. The restaurant was slightly less than half full. Seating is a mix of tables and booths. There is a low wall on the left with tables on the other side which may be a bit more private or less busy. Most of the booth seats we passed need recovering and the general decor is older and could use a freshening. There is also a small bar in rear with about six stools. There is some background music noticeable but at a low volume which did not interfere with conversation. The temperature inside was rather cool and we left our coats on during our meal. Our waitress came by within a few seconds of us sitting down. She took our drink order and brought the drinks back within a minute. We asked for a few minutes to review the menu. After about ten minutes she returned, apologizing for getting distracted with bussing tables and taking other orders. It appears the restaurant was understaffed and our waitress was performing many tasks. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. One appetizer dip came out piping hot in about ten minutes. The Buffalo Chicken dip was very good. There is distinct Buffalo flavor without significant spiciness. The majority of the included chicken was shredded as expected but there was one very large chicken piece in the middle. This needed a fork and knife to break apart to eat. The accompanying pita-type chips were warm, crispy on the outside and little puffy inside. The remaining appetizer was delivered about five minutes later, with the two entrees about five minutes after that. The Fall special Four Cheese Bruschetta dip was good. Three of the cheeses were well mixed and the mozzarella was layered on top in the middle of the bowl. Once this cooled a bit it was difficult to use the pita chips to dip any of the mozzarella so a fork was used. The fresh basil and roasted cherry tomatoes were nice garnishes. The Johnny's Special sub was fine but not really special. There was enough meat, lettuce, and tomato to feel it was a decent value but the flavor was overall bland. The onion, mayo, and Italian dressing were minimal to non-existent, at least as far as flavor was concerned. The bread was nicely toasted with a crispness without bordering on hard. The bottom of the sandwich did get soggy by the time the first half of the sandwich was eaten but it did not fall apart. The accompanying French fries were very good, crispy outside and tender inside. The Syracuse Stuffer Calzone was another decent value with adequate ingredients to make a complete meal. The steak was decently flavorful but there was also gristle (possibly grill scrapings) included which took away from the experience. The accompanying marinara dipping sauce was underwhelming. While the recipe ideas and flavors are interesting, the execution was lacking. The kitchen had an issue with the timing of sending out the different parts of the order although the entrees did arrive at the same time. Our server was obviously good at her job but was saddled with additional tasks beyond any reasonable expectation of being able to handle while still serving the customers. The overall potential of the menu does merit another visit.

Another fantastic find on our trip to Johnson City... another box checked: PIZZA!…read more We found Scratch Brick Oven and at first I thought we were in the wrong place because it's tucked into a residential area. But the second we parked, we could smell that wood-fired oven doing its thing. That smoky, toasty aroma? Instant confirmation we were exactly where we needed to be. Is this place fancy? Ahhhh... NO. And that's part of the charm. We went early for dinner (around 4:30ish). A few people were coming and going. You fill out your order on paper sheets and they make 12" pies, perfect for individual tastes. We ordered a plain cheese as our barometer (because you always judge a pizza place by the basics). I built mine with pepperoni, red onion, fresh mushrooms, and roasted whole garlic cloves. While I was trying to be subtle snapping photos, Theodore opened the door to the wood-fired oven and invited us to take a look. OMG. I LOVE a wood fire oven, and this one was glowing red hot. He explained the pies cook in about six minutes. They're thin crust but sturdy enough to hold their toppings once they cool and set a bit. Just look at the pics. Again... not fancy. Paper plates. Plastic utensils. But honestly? You could serve this on a paper towel and it would still be phenomenal. MIND. BLOWN. The crust is perfectly balanced and crunchy. The red sauce? Perfection. They smoke the meats in house, and that pepperoni was unlike anything I've ever had. And the roasted garlic? Absolute game changer. I imagine they already have a huge following, but if you haven't tried this place yet... put it on your list. Immediately.

Would I call it New York style ?...ehhhh...meh...probably not. I grew up in Central PA where all the pizza places were owned by NY/NJ transplants. The differences here are typical to what I've found in the South during my 37 years here. The dough doesn't quite have the gluten chew of NY pie and tends to be heavier. You don't get the airy bubbles on the crust end, etc The cheese is different as well and lacks the stretch of NY pie. The other differences are prep/convenience choices ...the Italian sausage here is ground and the onions and green peppers are diced. True NY pie uses sliced Italian sausage (looks just like the pepperoni) and jullienne cut veggies. These may seem like insignificant things but it matters. So...if you like the doughier Mellow Mushroom type pie this will satisfy you. If you're from the northeast and want something to make you feel like you're back home... then not so much. Get the single slice with pepperoni or just plain cheese if your want a foldable slice.

It was early afternoon and busy, so we sat at the bar to save time. When we looked at the menu, we thought everything looked pricey but figured it would be worth it. We ordered the namesake dishes: the Chicken Bella Vita for me and the Veal Bella Vita for my husband. Wait staff was very nice and indicated it was a good choice. We also ordered a bottle of wine (way overpriced for what it was). The bread and the extra olive oil dip we ordered were delicious, as were the salads. Then we waited. And waited. Over an hour after finishing our salads, the entrees finally arrived. I'm patient with holiday crowds, but no place should take this long. When the food arrived, I was not impressed by the portions for a $25.99 entree, but I hoped the taste would make up for it. It didn't. There was no taste at all! It was supposed to be a champagne sauce, but it tasted like flavorless biscuit gravy with no salt--and no cheese was offered to help it out. My 'Bella Vita' plate had only about 2 bites of chicken, 3 shrimp, and a few pieces of artichoke with some sun-dried tomatoes. I get that poor planning can make a holiday meal prep a challenge, but we paid full price--over $100 for two people before tip. We won't be returning.

But I guess since there was 11 people in the party, that justifies the place to charge a 18% tip even though it isn't a "high end" place like it states when I looked up TN regulations for mandatory tipping. The young blonde waitress gave the worst service I have had in my life. We got there at 2pm, she came by and disappeared for about a half hour. I don't know if she was new, but she was not attentive, nothing about her service was good. If they didn't force the tip on us on our bill she probably wouldn't have received a tip at all. We had to ask for silverware and napkins more than once. We asked a guy who brought some of our food and he brought them out to us. I ordered bruschetta and the same exact pizza as the person next to me at the same exact time. I said no sauces on top when she asked if I wanted blue cheese or ranch. other person got her pizza 40 minutes after ordering. I got my pizza 30 minutes AFTER she got hers. What the hell, we both ordered the buffalo chicken pizza. Why the hell did mine take 1hour 10 minutes and hers took 40 minutes? That is beyond outrageous. The restaurant wasn't busy and pizzas take about 15 minutes. The bruschetta... terrible. Bruschetta is supposed to have garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar with tomatoes. The tomatoes weren't seasoned, no garlic or olive oil, very blah. I had to get up and find someone to ask them for them to get our checks and boxes because the waitress disappeared over 30 minutes ago and has yet to be back. She should be fired or properly trained. To be a good waitress you need to come back, check on the table, see if we needed anything, see how the meal was etc. We also had to ask for boxes 3 times.
