    Mike's Drywall and Painting

    Mike's Drywall and Painting

My apartment had recently suffered multiple unidentified leaks this past year that has been a…read morenightmare to navigate. I first messaged Mike and other candidates in 2025 when I was gathering quotes for an insurance claim that ultimately got denied. It was very clear that Mike and the team have great workmanship from the photos - this is coming from someone who's seen great drywall work and extremely poor work that I could do better myself. I could tell right off the bat that these were the guys I wanted to work with. The proof was in the "mudding" as I changed scope to account for materials, budget, level 4-5 finish, and paint finish quality. Having to pay out of pocket for an expense I anticipated someone else to cover was a bit of a concern for my wallet. Mike was patient with me and we worked out a price we could agree on by removing items from the scope that might still been in good condition and limiting the amount of work that needed to be done on a bump-out wall next to my shower. John texted me soon after we agreed to move forward and scheduled the work for the following week. He also suggested a change in material (DensShield) from what I had originally requested (blueboard) and I am so grateful to have skilled/experienced teammates to work with that really know what they're doing. Day 1 was demolition, hanging, and mudding. John was finished and out before lunch and I could already tell that the quality of work was spectacular. You couldn't even tell the ceiling was repaired because it was blended in perfectly with the surrounding area. The bump-out wall was looking way better than it was even prior to the water damage. We left the fan on throughout the day and overnight to let the hot mud dry out. Day 2 was sanding, priming, and painting. Fortunately, I purchased and stored paint that was specific to my bathroom from a previous repair and had it at the ready this time around as well. Honestly, when I first discovered the leak, I originally planned to fix it myself so I also had a brand new container of primer. I'm pretty satisfied with the work, especially with the DensShield suggestion and installation in both affected areas to account for future leaks. I didn't know such product existed and the workmanship mudding a material such as DensShield and it essentially coming out nearly flawless is pretty impressive. Overall, I would give Mike's team a solid 9/10. Prompt responses, flexibility in materials/scope, and great quality of work. The quote, as some have mentioned is on the higher side compared to other candidates I'd spoken with, but I learned the last time that you get what you pay for. Could I have gotten it cheaper? 100%. Would it have come out as good? Not sure. The last guy I hired at maybe half the price got the job done, but clearly not done well and that's what got me in this predicament, SO... don't cheap out if you can help it - especially for a bathroom or high-moisture/high-risk area. I'm certain I'll be working with Mike and the team in the future and there are no regrets here as compared to my last drywall adventure. Thank you Mike & John for your patience and hard work.

Our experience with the company has led to significant financial and emotional hardship for our…read morefamily. We hired LNS in towards the end of July 2021, initially, everything was going well. The demolition and installation of the sink and shower plumbing went quickly. Then the emergency calls started. Emergencies at other sites, personal emergencies and soon acts-of-god type situations started to happen. Soon, it was the end of August, September, October, November, December, January and February with no follow up work being done. Lots of "guarantee the work will get done, will be there tomorrow." We confirmed the dates and times, rearranged our work schedules (even at times other family gatherings or events) and were met with no shows. We were kind, thoughtful, understanding of the situations happening. We gave ample time for Lloyd to come by and continue the work. Communication was kept open but it was very one-sided where we initiated contact and was met with, "totally forgot about this or something came up." There were no other staff in this company that apparently could cover the work. My family shouldn't have to suffer because your life is falling apart. Run your company better, have backup plans for your clients if you are unable to get the work done. Or...refund the money paid when you break your own contract. The bathroom is for my mom because the other bathroom has a tub and not a shower. She's fallen twice in the tub since her bathroom's been under construction for so long. When we moved to get the work done by someone else, drywall had to be redone and the 3 piece shower installation taken out and reinstalled. Why? Mold resistant drywall was not used in the shower area and there was no backing in the installed shower pieces. We also found the the size of the vanity and the faucet bought were wrong sizes. It's a 150 sq. ft. bathroom. Additional out-of-pocket expenses: Medicine cabinet, new faucet, sink pipes/plumbing, window, mold resistant drywall, vanity lights. These items were all included in the original scope of service. We were left with a demolished bathroom and key pieces to the renovation (that were already paid for in full) missing. We are pursuing legal options and working on documentation. All this work is a hassle. We haven't been able to reach Lloyd to get the refund. He was always on time, incredibly patient and polite, and went above and beyond to make sure that the repair was done to a quality that the owners of this asset would be happy with and that I as the paying tenant would be happy to live in. He went above and beyond to match the existing walls and floors (with repeat trips to the store to physically go through flooring by hand to find the batch that was the most accurate), and as a result the repair is totally invisible and the area is cleaner than it was when he started. I am thrilled and relieved. 10/10/10 recommend. When we own our own home I'll be keeping his contact for future projects, and will be recommending him to everybody. Mahalo, Julian!

The job was to install a door from our laundry room to the outside. My 78 year old partner had tried to install it himself after waiting 3 weeks for a Home Depot installer to contact him. When the original door was removed, it was clear to see that the opening had been modified. The original door was not the correct size for the opening. We had already bought a door from the original door measurements. Knowing that we would not be able to do it ourselves, I contacted Kama'aina Handyman. They did an excellent job and built a new frame for the doorway. They also replaced some cinder blocks that had broken with wood framing to make sure the door was straight and plumb. I would highly recommend this company.
