Silver Mountain is a growing ski/summer resort. This is the mountain formerly known as Jackass, infamous for the treacherous road to the base back in the day. Today, Silver is home to the worlds longest gondola that gets you from the main base to the mountain in about 30 minutes. Silver Mountain has put a lot of money into the new-style condo/hotel/mini-village concept that most of the mid-size resorts are employing. You are greeted to a very nice facility right in downtown Kellogg, with the ticket windows, lots of parking, etc. They have an indoor water park and a growing population of restaurants. This area is easily comparable to Whitefish and Bachelor. The hill has a nice variety of terrain, with a bias toward the steeper side of things - even on the blue/green runs. This isn't a cliff - just a little more slope than I'm familiar with at other resorts. A short hike from Chair 4 gets you to a separate peak and 500'+ of no-lift vertical. The resort focuses around the lodge, with chairs going here and there in different directions. Chair 4 and 2 are the better skiing areas, with plenty of drop. The layout of the mountain is downright weird. You go up, down, sideways, midway, etc. and you have to plan your riding accordingly. One wrong turn means a 30-45 minute trek back - sometimes to two lifts before you get 'home'. Inexplicably, there are several connecting runs that aren't groomed! I watched people slug down a messy ungroomed bump area just to get to the next chair. This is very uncool. The same care and feeding didn't go into the top of the mountain. After the gondola, the lifts really disappoint. Lots of 2-3 chair lifts, no quads, including a 2 seater with a midway loading station that creates all sorts of havoc. I can see a future for this place with a little grading, some improved grooming and two detachable quads servicing the main peaks. Today, expect to be banged around by tiny chairs and endure long lift lines. The lodge can best be described as worn and cramped. Leaks stole a big chunk of the table space which was precious, even on a low attendance day. Tables and chairs are cafeteria fare. The restaurant is OK, thankfully featuring real ski food at reasonable prices (no mahi mahi sandwiches here). Soapbox: Ski lodges are NOT the place for fine cuisine. Serve good quality, conventional food (burgers, chili, sandwiches, fries, a salad option or two), in ample portions, at slightly inflated prices, and everyone will be happy. If you order anything with arugula or proscuitto while skiing, please head to Sundance or Alta and join your pretentious brethren. If we stick together, we can keep our local/regional hills focus on serving REAL people. If you are more into the resort side of things, you will probably find Silver a pretty good option. If you need some real vertical, expect to be disappointed. I'm told the water park is great, but haven't visited. I was underwhelmed with the snow. Truthfully, I felt a little cheated once I got to the top. Down below, where the I-90 traffic passes by, you see a nice little ski village. Up top, you get 1970's era ski lodge stuff that really needs a major update. Prices are reasonable, but I think you can get more bang for the buck nearby. Going back isn't a priority for us - I'm going to test the 'new' Schweitzer and Red Mountain first. read more

I'm not a ski bum nor a snow bunny as my Laotian ancestors have never stepped foot into a snowboard boot so I cannot vouch for the mountain or any of its cold weather sports offerings. I did, however, partake in their other attractions: the huckleberry menu features, pub karaoke, and the indoor water park! My husband's holiday work party was held at the resort and he works at a bike shop. No ties and suits here so you know the type of rowdy that goes on. Checked in and received two water park passes (complimentary with a hotel stay) but a non-guest must fork over $28 to play, yikes. The hotel studio is gorgeous and perfect for a short stay, heck even for a romantic weekends away. No wi-fi so you have to go to the front desk and get a cable for $10. No, thanks. We had dinner at Noah's Canteen, which doubles as the on-site watering hole. They offer many items with the state berry, the huckleberry, and I figured I'd just stop at the huckleberry martini and the huckleberry margarita. I had the balsamic glazed pork tenderloin, which was a tiny amount of everything even the scoop of seasonal vegetables but got a heap of garlic mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the Noah Burger, which was as tall as his face. My cousin ordered the sliders with fries and a chipotle dipping sauce, which was surprisingly good. The "bucket" of fried chicken looked pretty tasty and brought me back to my pregnancy-craving days. Karaoke in a hop, skip, and jump over and the rest of the night was set with good friends. It happened to be my birthday and the bike wives enlightened me by joining in my go-to pick of "Like A Virgin" whilst standing in front of Noah's fireplace. Karaoke DJ was great - Tequila Leah? I most looked forward to hanging out the next day in the indoor water park! The baby wasn't too stoked about it but the big kids sure did. The adults accessed the surf simulator, family raft ride, and the lazy river. Those were the highlights of the park, sadly as everything else was forgettable or uninviting. Trestles, the upstairs part with a bar, serves up a heaping pile of gas-inducing chili fries if you want to feed a small village but it's just canned Nalley chili and definitely processed nacho drizzle. Hope to be back soon, when and if we stay in a room again. Not worth it to just go for a day water park pass. read more

I realize it was COVID and this is probably not the way it is all of the time but we got 1/2 day trips from noon to 4 for the kids and we could not get our tickets until noon, then there was a 30 minute gondola ride then we spent an hour trying to get the rentals sorted out. I had the reservations on my phone with the booking number and they could not find my order for equipment and when we finally got the kids' rentals it was already 1:30. Online states you have to book equipment before noon the day before your rental so they could have it ready and that did not seem like it was the case at all. The kids only got to go on a couple of runs. We ended up changing the next days lift tickets from 1/2 day to full day so the had more time to play in the snow. read more

I stayed at this resort for work for a few months and it's a decent resort but the staff are horrendous. I think I met one nice staff member my entire stay. First, they messed up my room reservation by 2 weeks and yelled at ME for "not being clear" and they tracked my call history to make sure I called in advance (which I did weeks, days, AND hours before showing up). Secondly, I was only given 1/2 a roll of TP when I finally got to my room, and I asked for more at the front desk, and they refused to give me any. The lady very rudely told me "we don't do that" and to "use the public restroom". I will admit over 4 months I forgot my key a number of times, but I was called names when I went to the front desk and asked for another one. The hot tubs were nice towards the end of summer, but were usually gross and filled with bugs . The wifi also goes out every weekend due to a lot of people staying there. The resort has so much potential, but careless and rude staff put a damper on everything. read more

Face it, if you find your self in Kellogg, Idaho chances are you either 1. Moved to Kellogg or 2. Came to see the worlds longest gondola. The resort is the main gathering place in town, they feel quite secure in the pricing of their services. but, the beer is good, the bartenders are awesome. And hey, face it you have found yourself in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. The rooms are comfortable, but not Ritz Carleton. Wow! The rooms were awesome! Spacious, clean, affordable, and the maid service was great. There is so much to do on the property that I was there for four days and never had to get into my car. What a treat! I went to the water park, lounged around, went up the gondola, walked the grounds, hung with friends, and still didn't see everything there is to see. I can't wait to go back. We arrived later in the evening for our stay and we had 5 people, they knew we had 5 people. There was one double bed and a fold-out couch and a rollaway bed. When we folded out the couch there was no blanket or top sheet. No extra bedding in the closets. My kids were trying to go to sleep and we had no bedding - very frustrating. If they are going to advertise the sofa bed and know that there will be people in the room needing to use it, there should be enough bedding to accommodate everyone. read more

We visited the resort twice in May, during our stay on Mother's Day, we encountered issue after issue, dirty bar of soap in our room, profanity blaring in the water park, over crowded hot tub, max was 18 occupants and there were 29 people at once. We spoke with a manager and asked to cancel our trip for the end of may, she ensured me our room would be checked throughly. So we decided to come back for Memorial Day weekend. Upon check-in went up to our room, it smelled like rotten fish, we thought maybe someone had just cooked fish the night prior, we pulled our covers back and there was a rag full of blood. We called front desk, they offered us to change out the linens or swap rooms, so we swapped rooms. Got into our second room, orange juice or orange soda spilt on the king bed, it was sticky so we knew it hadn't been washed. We traveled 4 hours so we wanted to let our kids go to the water park. Came back to the room decided to just sleep on the pull out sofa, it was broken! We packed up our kids and left! Like what a waste of time first of all and our money. To be told they would ensure our next room was clean and then have a bloody rag in our bed seemed odd. They refunded us $84 what a joke! read more

We went in the summer to Silver Mountain -- that means you can ride the Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes, golf, go zip-lining in Wallace, mountain bike, ride the Trail of the Hiawatha -- not that we did everything, but we did a lot. Morningstar Lodge is probably the nicest place to stay for miles around. Clean, comfy rooms with a kitchen attached -- makes life easy. We also ate both breakfasts at the Mountain Cafe -- great food, methodical service -- worth the wait. The gondola ride is like no other I've ever been on in that it starts in town, goes up AND down the first ridge, over a neighborhood in Kellogg, before ascending the final peak at what is essentially the base of the ski mountain. We had seen a bunch of mountain bikers come up the gondola with their bikes and now we saw what they were riding: seriously steep terrain. There are also cross-country tracks on the mountain, but the real draw is the downhill: 3300 vertical feet of single track mountain bike trails. These guys (yes, almost all guys) were wearing full helmets, body armor and were coated in dirt by the time they made it down. We went without our children (having driven there via Moscow) and were emotionally torn during the trip: we knew that they would have LOVED being there and we wanted to share that. Even though Silver Rapids (the water park) opens at 10am each day, if you have a surf lesson, you go at 9am, just steps from where we were staying at the Morningstar Lodge. $457 for 2 nights. Forced to relocate rooms due to extremely loud neighbors, downgraded to a room that smelled like dog urine and a yippy dog was across the hall. All children in adult hot tubs. Could not go tubing due to weather, was refunded the tubing money but notified after we had rode the gondola all the way up to the top and found out it was closed. Was sent an email, no phone call. Bar is good. Great Bloody Mary's and Poached Eggs. Water Park is great for kids. Recommendation: Go to Triple Play in Couer D'Alene or a different ski resort. read more

REVIEW OF THE WATER PARK: My 7-year-old son was badly injured at the top of one of the slides on the miner's landing. When he got to the bottom of the slide, he was crying and had blood dripping down his back. None of the lifeguards noticed! I was lucky to be right at the bottom to take care of him. He had a large marble sized laceration on the back of his head from a sharp point at the top of the slide, where he slipped and hit his head. I took him to the first aid room, all the while his blood was dripping everywhere. The first aid room had a sign on it stating to find the nearest lifeguard for assistance. I did so, only to be told to go to the lifeguard with the red shirt (which all of them had on). When I got a better description and figured out who they were talking about, I was told by him that he would help me as soon he could find someone to cover his station and to go ahead into the first aid room and see if I could find gauze . I went into the room and couldn't find any gauze. I went back out with my son, still blood dripping all down his back, to try to get help again. Thankfully the 2nd lifeguard was able to come in and help. He put on gloves and found gauze, which my son quickly soaked thru. It was clear after getting a better look at the injury that we needed to get him to the ER. I asked for an ice pack. I left the first aid room to go find my husband and other children so we could get back into our room and get our keys to go to the ER. Several other swimmers had seen the accident and asked if my son was okay. On our way out the door to the ER, we were stopped to fill out a second form. At the ER, the doctor was able to use surgical glue to seal it up. The DR stated that he had been working a double shift and it was the 4th injury he had seen from the water park! Thankfully my son didn't have a concussion. The whole experience was frustrating. It took way too long to get help! It was at least 10 minutes before we had any assistance. None of the lifeguards noticed what was happening on their own. What if he had been knocked unconscious, he could have drowned!!!! ++ In addition, the lazy river is not a consistent depth, which caused me to scrap my knee while floating with my daughter. A minor injury, but frustrating. Also, the large dump buckets are way too strong. There are signs stating they are powerful, but they are impossible to completely avoid. The force of the water was so strong that it was uncomfortable and a little painful to be dumped on. Finally, when we first got to the park, someone had spit on the ground in the splash pad like area and another customer was trying to clean it up with water from the sprinkler. Gross! It seems clear to me that more staff is needed both for first aid and cleaning. Further first aid training and a reevaluation of the safety of their park is also needed. REVIEW OF THE ROOMS: The room was clean and a good size but service was not great. When I was trying to contact our room from the ER, the front desk could not figure out how to transfer a call. When we called at 8 pm to get more than the 1 pillow provided for the queen sleeper sofa, it took an hour for a response. After the emergency at the water park, we wanted to check out and go home. We had only been there for a couple hours but nobody was able to grant a refund so we were not able to check out. We just stayed the night and paid the next day so we could go home. It has taken 4 days to get a response from the manager and she just told us she would get back to us. read more

Amazing experience! I didn't even ski nor snowboard but still had fun at the resort. I took a few pictures and had lunch while waiting on my wife to snowboard and had a great time. People were friendly, staff was great, and free wifi worked fine. Brought my laptop with me up the gondola ride and enjoyed coffee while they snowboarded. Would go again. read more

We had a blast on our one night stay at the resort. They checked us in early, (1:30pm instead of 4pm) which was nice for changing into swim gear with a family with little ones. We spent the entire rest of the day at the water park. Left for dinner for about two hours. We ate at the restaurant at the resort. Food and service was great! The family float slide was not working when we arrived, but after returning from dinner is was a pleasant surprise to find that it was working, because it was easily our favorite! Our room only came with two towels, for a family of 4. No big deal, we went to the front desk to ask for more, didn't have any on hand, would have some delivered. Awesome, that's great! Let them know we were headed to dinner, they said no problem. Well they dropped them off while we were at dinner, but they set them on the dirty carpet outside our door! Gross. Could have easily put them in a bag or something. Left a note to go grab them... idk... but not on the floor. Other then that, we will be back for sure! read more

Great food and friendly team. Beautiful mountain and the waterpark was epic. The tubing run was very slow (most people had to get out and walk as their tubes stopped halfway down). None of us ski but would pay the 50+ bucks for some epic tubing. (How about black diamond tubing?) The walls of the "condo" were so thin you could hear regular conversations next door. The tv was poor quality and the internet was very slow. As long as those things dont bother you for near a thousand dollar weekend stay, then it will be the time of your life. We will be back for the waterpark but not the tubing and might look for different lodging for the price. read more

We've stayed here once but snowboarded several times! We love the mountain and the hotel! For the price per person the room is awesome! We had 4 people in one room with a separate bedroom and a pullout bed in the "living room". The room is giant, the bathroom is giant, there's a small but sort of big kitchen! It was an awesome stay. The indoor water park is a blast as well! Can't beat the warmth after a day on the mountain. Fun slides and the lazy river is always fun. I like that they had a little bar with a hot tub as well. Always a plus for the adults. My only advice to the hotel would be to make a covered walkway from the hotel to the water park for the winter visitors. It's a pretty cold run back to your room after being in the 80 degree water park. Great for families or large groups! read more

We look forward to our yearly visits here with much anticipation. The rooms are very comfortable and contain all you need and more. They have all towels, linens, dishes, pots and pans, etc.... There was a dual room fireplace in our room with seating at the table for 6. Our deck overlooked Silver Mountain and the gondola. The ride to the top if fun and our grand kids loved it. We also enjoy during our stay a trip to Wallace and trips to the Kellogg museum, and the Wallace Mining Museum and Old Wallace Train Depot.....lots to do and see in the silver valley. read more

We came to Silver Mountain for a weekend away with my husband's two younger brothers. (14 and 16 yrs.) We did the tubing hill which was fun but the conveyor belt to get back to the top is super slow which cut into a lot of your allotted time. The tubing hill could stand to be a bit longer or steeper to make it more exciting. The water Park is fun but definitely catered to more younger kids. The slides were our favorite part but could also stand to be a bit longer. They are super short! Overall, pretty fun though! Our room at the resort was very nice and the bed was super comfy. Even the kids thought the pull out sofa was pretty comfy. My only complaint was that the walls seemed to be very thin. Next door you could hear every time someone ran up or down the stairs and could also hear every word your neighbor was saying at a normal speaking voice. Overall, we had a good experience and will be back! read more

This was my first time at Silver Mountain. We went tubing and we were scheduled for the 9:00 am to 11:00 am tubing. It would have been awesome except for two things. First the slide hill had not been groomed before we arrive. Therefore, the hills were not slick enough and you'd get stuck going down several times. Finally around 9:45 or 10:00, they came to groom the hill, but then we lost time tubing while waiting for them to groom all 4 hills. This should have been done prior to 9:00 am. The second thing that irritated me was that the second group was not supposed to start until 11:00 am. However, they were allowed to start 15 minutes early which meant long lines to wait in. They should have been instructed to wait until 11:00, we had already lost some of our time due to the late grooming. read more

My husband and I checked out this place yesterday. It is very beautiful here, the lady we purchased our gondola ride tickets from was very nice, she gave us all the info we needed for when we get to the top of the mountain. We go over to the gondola ride, and at first the guy kinda just looked at us and didn't say anything. Then he finally nodded his head, telling us to "come this way." He was nice enough to put us in the VIP cart...which ummm could really use some fixin'. The people who were working at the gondola & lift were really nice. The Mt Haus Grill was terrible though. Nice employees too, but I kinda felt like the gal who served us was lying about pricing, cause when we asked, she kinda stood there guessin' prices. They are SUPER expensive for very old crusty hamburger buns...and the cheeseburger was very bland, no flavor. Fries were good & no free refills. The building has a moldy smell, and when I walked to the other end of the dining room, it had a very foul smell. The upside of this visit was the view/scenery. It is an absolute spetacular view, and the scenery is beautiful. My husband and I hiked for a little, we hope to dress for it on our next visit. $18 for the Gondola which included the lift at the top of the mountain...it was worth it. Soooo, 3 stars because of the awesome employees who actually served us, the view that was just amazing & for the $18 per person for 2 rides. We both had a good time, minus the crappy stuff. We would definitely go back for the hike, this time...we're skippin out on the gross food. read more

Don't bother with Silver Mountain Resort. Let me list all the things I encountered on my stay. 1) Lukewarm hot tubs. The only tub that was somewhat warm was in the thundering loud water park. 2) No towels in any of the locations we were told to find towels. Had to use wet dirty towels when got out of cold hot tub. 3) When we asked at the front desk about turning up the tubs we were told "That's not my job". 4) Elevators were broken. 5) Dust on top of all the dressers, fridge and other surfaces show how little they clean the rooms. read more

The skiing was great! But the customer service, reservations, rentals, ticket booth were all horrific to say the least!!

Mostly everything about this ski resort was great, but DO NOT TAKE SKI LESSONS HERE. The staff at the base of the mountain is super efficient and very resourceful. After the beautiful gondola ride, on the top of the mountain however it's a different story. We had taken a lesson for beginners and we had paid for a group lesson but my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the group so that was a perk. Our instructor came off nice but seemed annoyed with us and we hadn't even begun. He started us off just walking around in our skis to get used to the feeling and then he started to send us down the hill not teaching us how to stop or do anything else. He had to keep yelling at me to just stop and lay down. I'm sorry but yelling the word pizza at me a thousand times explains nothing this is why it is a beginners lesson. He then kept refusing to teach me how to stop as I had to keep just falling. At one point I got frustrated and gave up. He told me to my face that I had let defeat take over me and looked at me and continued down the hill. I'm sorry I had to give up because I was putting myself and others in danger of getting run over by other people. I believe the reason he was annoyed with us was because he seemed like he would usually instruct more advanced classes. He expected us to know everything and when we would ask he would just keep going and ignore us. After I decided to not go another run, he continued to talk bad about me and make rude comments to my boyfriend which is just DISRESPECTFUL. He then at the end told me to not give up on trying it again but frankly he ruined my experience on a great opportunity. Such a nice resort with such a bad instructor. I do not know if it was just our instructor or if they are all like that but beware. read more

The family agreed, this was the funnest vacation we've taken. The resort is beautiful, just like the pictures and better. The rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped. The ski mountain is awesome for all level's of experience. Tons of trails to ski. The kids loved the water park and the water slides are fun. The outdoor jacuzzis are clean and a perfect end to the day. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART are the people. The team helping you on and off the gondola's are so welcoming. The team at the rental shop are so helpful. The instructor's are very knowledgeable and helpful, I strongly recommended classes for first timers. The girls running the wave machine and the water park are awesome! They are so involved and put so much effort in helping every person enjoy their experience. I don't know if the hiring manager is awesome or there people from Idaho are awesome, but everyone made this vacation better. read more

This is for the tubing hill only! I was very disappointed. We paid a large amount of money for 2 hours of tubing, in comparison to other local tube hills. The tubes were very uncomfortable and difficult to sit in. The hill was barely vertical, which made the ride slow at BEST. 2 out of 3 times down, I had to get out and push my tube to the next downward area. I thought maybe it was just me, but I watched numerous others do the same, including the kids. After 1 hour, we all quit. We weren't having any fun. My kids had more fun at the local park on their own crappy sleds! Don't waste your $$!!! read more

Ruined our anniversary. Booked it to have some waterpark fun for my husband and I. Only upon arrival to discover that the staff was rude and the waterpark was closed until 1pm the next day. We booked an overnight by stay and arrived at 330pm. The gondola was closed to. Nothing on the website or Groupon had said anything about their parks closing earlier this time of year or completely closing. We literally sat the rest of the night in the hotel became the rain and they wouldn't even give us a late checkout. The lady at checkout couldn't care less about how our stay was or how we enjoyed ourselves. We didn't stay the extra two hours after checkout to even look at the waterpark. What a waste of time and money. Called a manager today and she dismissed my unhappiness with "I'll talk to my employee's and see what happened. Thanks bye." So much for that. Don't recommend this place at all. Such a shame. read more

Please consider booking a Friday gondola ride and Dining BBQ up at the top. The food was excellent! The ribs were so good and tender; the salad was delightful as well as the macaroni salad! It was really worth the money. We enjoyed the gondola ride, the live music, the beautiful weather up there, the opportunity to take a ski lift ride on another side of the mountain. There are games to play and beautiful views, frisbee golf, and even finding a few huckleberries! Such a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening in the summer! read more

Found this place on the internet when looking for a driveable vacation destination that had a few things to do in a central location. While there is a closer indoor water park and many closer ski resorts to me, there are no places that combine the two. Combining an indoor waterpark and a ski resort do seem like a really great idea. Especially since the ski resort closes so early (lifts close at 3:45), the waterpark is open later (til 8pm on friday/saturday). So in theory if you are highly motivated you can get the best of both attractions. Another thing that makes this place unusual is that the ski resort is located 3.1 miles up the mountain and you take a 16 minute gondola ride from down below. There are bars/restaruants located both at the bottom and top of the gondola. Skiing is slightly cheaper here than at some other ski resorts and does include the free gondola ride (its 17$ if you aren't skiing or tubing). I found many of the green runs to be harder than they should have been, but thankfully the place was not that crowded. Waterpark was fairly crowded especially when trying to get a good spot in one of the three hot tubs. It has 3 waterslides, a lazy river, many kid only attractions and a strange surfing thing. They offer lessons before the water park opens for 19$ to learn to use the surfing thing, otherwise there is always a line and people will watch you fall on your face. It is a delightful 84 degrees inside, but the water still feels cold to start. Waterpark is free if you are staying at the morning star lodge which is on site, not sure how you get to do it if you aren't. read more

The snow is great...plenty of good powder! Lodge is OK. The restaurant needs to be open later. We typically stay on the hill until the closing call, and THEN we need a quick bite. Would an extra half-hour kill ya? read more

There are a lot of appealing things about this place. The rooms are really lovely and even in a studio we were able to have breakfast and lunch in suite every morning we were there which is a huge money saver. The water park is small and short on rides (many of the rides actually closed for several hours a day and mostly in afternoon during the hottest part of the day when we wanted to go) and after an hour or two, we were bored. There are other activities in the area but the resort staff do not give much info which is a shame. Its beautiful in North Idaho and the front desk is either clueless or just too lazy to be bothered or maybe they are just used to dealing with people who know the area and what it has to offer. For us it was our first time in that part of the country (we came all the way from DC for a reunion) and really could not get any answers from them. As a large resort in the area and seemingly the only one for at least 30 miles I also couldnt understand why they have not partnered with any organizations to offer organized tours, day trips etc seems such a wasted opportunity. Still we managed to use google and find some things we could venture out to do on our own but its nice when a resort offers suggestions so you know that you're spending on something worth your time and unfortunately this was lacking. Apart from that it was an overall enjoyable stay. Too far from home to come again but if I lived closer I could see coming back out again. read more

Absolutely beautiful location. The summer resort was a blast. The water was clean and warm. The food at the restaurants was overpriced.
