Silver Lining Opticians offers high quality eyeglass frames & sunglasses in the Soho neighborhood of NYC. After purchasing a pair of their Carbon frames (part of their own line of frames) a few years ago I went back as I received numerous compliments on my glasses. While there are numerous options in my hometown of Denver I consider my glasses to be an extension of me and do not have multiple pairs as the cost for frames and lenses is expensive. When I went back to Silver Lining in June I browsed many of their choices. They offer several brands but only carry ones focus on glasses as opposed to companies like Ralph Lauren that also do clothing, home goods, etc. I looked through multiple frames to find ones that best fit me. After debating between a pair of green tortoise and one of the SIlver Lining line (all of their frames are named after elements of the periodic table.) I chose a matte black frame and am very pleased with it. read more

When you talk about independent retailers, it doesn't get any better than Silver Lining. They have a completely unique selection in-store of their own line, other brands and a killer selection of vintage. The staff knows what they have and can help navigate. Last summer, I walked in with a vague idea of some sunglasses that I wanted. After being presented with some options that were on brief and fit well, the gentleman helping me pulled out another pair, very different from the rest, just to try. In the end that was the pair I bought and still I couldn't be happier with them! When buying a gift for my wife's birthday, I decided to look into Silver Lining and found a pair of sunglasses from their own line that I thought would suit her. The overall experience is very personal. The owners, Jordan and Erik will help you find the perfect pair for your face - and they will be honest with you. They don't want you to just buy a pair, they want you love them. However beware, it become an addiction. Seems odd to leave a review for a store in which I've never actually done business--still have yet to buy frames from them--but I have to say I have popped in there a few times and I have to say I love their selection. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. And they have a lot of exotic boutique-label brands and some very cool choices, not to mention a solid selection of vintage frames. I unfortunately ended up buying a pair from another store because I liked these other frames I'd found, and because it's a big/expensive decision I didn't end up purchasing from Silver Lining. However, they are definitely high on my list of stores to check out anytime I need new glasses, as well as a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a cool optical store with fresh, unique choices. read more

Extremely honest with his opinions, Jordan has an amazing eye for finding frames to make anyone look great. Although I've moved to the West Coast, I will never buy my glasses or sunglasses anywhere but Silver Lining Opticians. The store is fun to visit, the selection is impressive and it's hard for me to remember a time when I've worn either my sunglasses (vintage) or regular glasses (frames by Silver Lining) when I haven't been complimented by friends and strangers. I'm not a review-writer, but I enjoyed my experience at Silver Lining so much - I just had to. Having saved a bit to invest in a beautiful, long-lasting pair of eyeglasses as I prepare for a lot of reading in graduate school, I quickly became disappointed in the 'customer service' of most 'nice' eye wear shops. I was constantly feeling hounded, sold to - wishing I could just be left alone to try on a few pairs to see what I might like before being shadowed by a salesperson hungry for commission. Sometimes, you want to try on something crazy without another set of eyes on you. Immediately upon entering Silver Lining, I knew I was in for a different experience. Eric, one of the very warm and kind fellows behind this operation, gently let me know that he was there if I wanted any assistance or had any questions at all. That's all I needed. I was free to spend a good 20+ minutes trying on all their frames, eventually going to Eric for some gentle last guidance and insight as I made my final decision. If you are a person who enjoys having more of a shopping aide/partner, I have no doubt he would have accommodated in kind. I was just so appreciative of the time and space taken to read a certain customer's particular shopping ideals and to then create a comfortable and ideal shopping experience around that. I've gotten several pairs of glasses here over the years, and I've always been super happy with the entire experience. Jordan and Eric are great guys who really know their craft. They are there to lend an honest opinion but are also more than happy to let you browse at your leisure. Their selection is better than anywhere else in New York, too. While it's tempting to go the Warby Parker route (and I've done that, too), you can't beat the quality of the frames at Silver Lining.
