Do not and I repeat do not go to this gas station at all costs. During Christmas Eve I had family heading up the mountain to South Lake Tahoe for the holidays. Unfortunately Cal trans was requiring chain control over the summit. My sister got chains installed but upon arriving to the Cal Trans station they informed my sister that the chains were installed incorrectly and on the wrong tires causing damage to her brand new car I had to head over from South Lake Tahoe to go help her. Upon arriving at the gas station the manager was yelling at my sister and refusing to take responsibility for the job she paid them to do. Our Christmas Eve was placed on hold due to us trying to get our situation figured out. If you care for your items do not give them your business. Furthermore we contacted the owner to see if he would take responsibility for his employees actions and he refused to do anything about it so save yourself a headache and go to another station. If I can give this "business" negative stars I would. Way to think about your customers. read more

If you can help it stop elsewhere. I stopped in on my way up the mountain and asked to use the bathroom, however it was "broken." I politely inquired where they use the bathroom. Perhaps there was an option nearby. The man replied we go outside. I paused a moment and repeated his answer. Then he said it was none of my concern. So I left and held it for the remaining 40 minute drive to my resort. read more

Move on.....plenty of better places out there. Overpriced and rude staff that lies to you and says they accept returns for unused chains then does not honor that promise. Stopped to use the restroom and buy some water. While looking at the figurines to check prices, I was yelled at by the attendant 'do not touch'. I preceded to tell him I was looking at the prices since they were on the bottom. He yelled again do not touch. I told him I would now not be buying anything in his store and walked out. read more

In regards to the other reviews-for the folks who have not been to Hawaii--you should feel great about a suggestion of a $1 donation to use the facilities. While reading travel books about the big island I frequently ran across " restroom in library." I wondered why they would mention that. We found out in a hurry no one wants you to use their restroom & many forbid it. We bought a scuba suit etc. in Hilo at a dive shop and the guy grumpily let us use an outhouse type facility in the alley. We traveled around the whole island since we spent 5 weeks once & a month the last time. We were refused bathroom privileges numerous times. When you are desperate you are willing to pay almost any amount! Once on a long stretch of road (with few businesses) we were refused 2 places. I was going to happily offer $10 at the next place, but they allowed us to use the restrooms.) The gas station restroom may not be that like a Buckees , but I can't imagine how many people stop there per day. I bought around $80 worth of stuff & my husband put the recommended $1 in the restroom. If everyone would do that, or pony up more, they could pay someone to clean every few hours. Some people are disgustingly gross. I am guessing the owners have to clean it. I would want to vomit & would be extremely angry about nasty customers. Who would want to deal with that every day! If you travel much you know there are tourist traps & higher prices are to be expected! Give these people a break. I'm sure they work long hours and have to put up w/ a lot of rude, nasty, & ignorant people!! read more

We were on our way home from Tahoe and bf mentioned that there is cheap gas along the way down and sure enough, this place was much cheaper than the other gas stations in Lake Tahoe. We got gas and a Klondike bar hence there wasn't a need to pay the $1 to use the restroom. However, the pump was slow and it took a good 10 mins to fill up bf's car which is unusual. Restroom wasn't in the best condition but it suffice. read more

don't get anything but gas We drove to tahoe during a mild snow storm, I was almost out of washer fluid so I bought a gallon there. Those crooks sold, in the middle of a snow storm, may I add (!) washer fluid without anti freeze, so next morning the washers were frozen. read more

This is probably the most rude and dismissive experience I have ever had on multiple occasions at this gas station. The owner is on his cell phone gives u a look like you are interrupting his busy life as a gas a station owner. Apparently the food next stores his "restaurant" is just as bad. Thankfully yelp saved me from that experience. The bathrooms usually have a huge line and look like they are cleaned once a week if that. Please do yourself a favor and wait until South Lake or even better, stop at FRESH POND b4 you get to this point. Or if you are just in need of some supplies go to the general store across from Strawberry Lodge where you will be treated with respect and a friendly smile! read more

Stopped by here on our way to Tahoe so the kiddos could grab some snacks and take a bathroom break. The couple running it were very friendly. The restrooms could use some cleaning, but it may have been a busy morning. Good selection of snacks and gear. All in all, a much appreciated pit stop along the road! read more

As a local I can say that Silverfork is a wonderful place to have nearby. With gas prices that are comparable to those in town and not as high as they could be for a remote location I'm glad to have a place nearby for gas when it's 40 miles to town. Always friendly which is good considering how difficult it is to be a mom and pop business, especially on this highway. read more

My experience mirrors Len G's from 2011. Okay, so I pulled into the Silver Fork Store which is a 76 gas station as well with a full bladder. Right when I walked in a lady behind the counter, sounds like the same woman Len described, asked me if I needed to use the restroom. I said "Yes". She said: "You'll need to purchase something first. The bathroom is for our customers only!" I had my 76 personal card but didn't need any gas. I asked her how much an "IT's IT" ice cream sandwich cost. She looked over at the portable freezer unit where the ice cream confections were and said: Ohhh, I guess $2.50 sounds about right". Seriously! I looked around the store and they were selling small 4oz bags of cookies for $2.99. I looked up at her and she had this gleeful look on her face like: "Ha Ha. Too bad for you." I just left but will tell everyone I know to never step foot in this place. I go to the Tahoe area quite frequently and will tell everyone what a gracious and helpful person the lady behind the counter was towards me. So thoughtful and happy to assist. I'm hopeful that one day she will need to find relief somewhere for whatever reason and will be told: "I'm so sorry, I wish we could help you!" read more
