I came to Silver Diner for the first time on Friday. As soon as I stepped foot in the door, I was greeted by Brayden and I knew immediately that I wanted him as my waiter. His calm, clear, and friendly manner of speaking gave me a sense of confidence to order. I ordered the Country Scrambler (my new favorite dish) and it was very delicious! While I was enjoying my order, I noticed Brayden taking care of other tasks in the restaurant so I appreciated that he took the time to take care of my table and I definitely thought he was a manager at first. If he isn't, he needs to be, because i absolutely adore his energy and his ability to properly manage serving tables, while helping with togo with no issues at all! Yesterday was my first time ever in a Silver Diner, it was 10am Saturday morning. The one I visited was in Greenbelt, Maryland. What a wonderful experience. I was attracted to the bright shiny steel front doors, with such a great '50s design and once you went through those doors you stepped back in time. The place is so wonderfully decorated with that retro feel of popping color and shiny steel accessories. I wanted a few of the light fixtures that hang above the table for my own kitchen. They are a cross between a schoolhouse pendant light and something George & Jane Jetson would own. The "atomic age" feel is resplendent. What I *really* loved is how clean the resto was. The place was packed, all tables were full. Yet there was no random food on the floor, our table was wiped completely clean as were the booth seats. That made me feel good about eating here. I'm a stickler for cleanliness. Onto the menu. Lots of menu choices and plenty of healthy choices. In fact, some of the entrees sounded so good but I passed by because they were made with egg-beaters instead of eggs or low fat sour cream or low fat/no fat cheese instead of the regular (fat) food item. I watch my fat and food intake, I don't need them to. So I wished there was a choice instead of the dish automatically being made this way. Still the selection of items is vast, and plenty of items for vegetarians, healthy eaters, and those wanting regular diner food. I did order the crabcake & sweet corn 3-egg omelette which came with a flaky sweet biscuit and home fried potatoes. The little biscuit was tasty.The potatoes were good, not great, but good. The omelette was DELICIOUS! Of course it was huge so I ate 2/3 of it as I couldn't finish the rest. The coffee was free-flowing, hot and good flavored. I really liked the little coffee cups too :) This Silver Diner is very well appointed. Quite a lovely place to be. And the staff is A1 super-friendly, courteous and they were happy. The hostess was friendly and speedy in taking our seating request. We had a short 10 minute wait. Our waitperson was Papa J (Jerry) who was so welcoming and warm you felt like you were a guest at his house. He was also very knowledgeable about the ingredients and origins of the various food being used to create the healthy, quality ingredient dishes at the Silver Diner. I was quite impressed with this diner. It is not your regular diner fare. This food is of higher quality and a lot less salty than other diner food I have eaten. I will go again. Silver Diner in Greenbelt, Md get's it right. When you go out to eat you want a good experience. I can make food at home so it's not just about the food. Anyways I wanted to be a little healthy this morning so I ordered the avocado toast with a side of veggie sausage and eggs and to wash it all down a decaf green tea. The avocado toast was very delicious which I wasn't sure what to expect because it's a diner and diners usually have so many options I feel at times the food could be a little subpar but the avocado toast had lots of flavor and the drizzled olive oil brought it all together. Came here with my aunt while visiting the DC area. I ordered an aloha veggie burger, which came with sweet potato fries no upcharge. I inquired about a shake, as there was an advertisement for an "all american combo- order a shake!" Our waitress explained that there was no combo discount, it was just a ploy to get people to buy more shakes. They range in price from $6.49-6.99... which I didn't feel was worth it, so I didn't order one after all. My order was fine, though I would have appreciated more peach salsa. My aunt had the pot roast, I tried the gravy and mashed potatoes. Super yummy! Her boyfriend ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and ended up with a bison burger instead of beef. He had been telling us that it tasted different all meal, it wasn't till the check came out we were able to confirm as our waitress was hard to catch and we were all too hungry to wait. The place was a little bit dirty- but the staff was mopping the floor during dinnertime! We saw a kid slip and fall. They're really lucky that it wasn't an elderly person. They have cute jukeboxes at the tables, for a quarter you can pick a song to play in the whole restaurant and there's a volume adjustment in case you hear something coming through you really do/don't like. The check also took a long time to be brought to our table. The menu was very extensive. There was a lot to choose from. We were greeted as soon as we entered and promptly seated at a comfortable booth, our server arrived to take our drink selection and before I was able to read through the menu our drinks were on the table. My selection was a no brainer, the grilled salmon ceasar salad has always hit a homerun out of the park. The foods ordered were grilled chicken Caesar salad with five buffalo wings, a philly steak omelette with eggs mushrooms home fries mashed avocados. Our order was delivery in a timely manner. I was blown away with this restaurant from the moment I hit the door. The WOW factor from the decore to the staff to the quality of food is off the charts. At most establishments my wife is very limited with menu options for eating gluten free. The Silver Diner is hands down the leader for gluten free dishes. She was not limited in choices she had a hard time deciding what to start with. The GF French toast is out standing. I tried the French toast and I could not taste a difference. We shared a GF Decadent Brownie at the end. I would drive out my way to have it again. I have a outstanding Turkey Club with chicken noodle soup. The chicken noodle soup tastes like moms homemade. This was my first time at Silver Diner. I love all the vegan options on the menus. I ordered the Brussel Sprout and Lentil dish. I was unsure about brussel sprouts with red sauce but it was actually very tasty. It's LOADED with lentil. I would have actually preferred more sprouts than lentil but it was tasty either way. I also ordered a chocolate vegan "milk" shake that's was DELICIOUS. We also got the quinoa coconut pancakes which were AMAZING! There's blueberry and shreds of coconut in the pancake with sliced banana on top. Highly recommend. The salmon and eggs entree was also really tasty Our waiter was very knowledgeable and all of his suggestions were on point. My only CON was the cleanliness of the place. The bathrooms are gross which made me wonder if their kitchen is kept in better condition. The floor under our table was unswept and pretty gross as well. If you are in the area you have to stop into Silver Diner. We had a school group with 17 people and from the time we were seated until the moment we left, our server Agent was outstanding. He was personable, spoke to the kids about sites they'd seen on their visit, and impressed kids and adults alike when he memorized all 17 drink orders. The food came out quickly, portions were good-sized and the best part was that it was all delicious. They had lots of options for people with allergies/dietary restrictions, which is great when you're traveling with a big group. First off this was hands down one of the worst experiences ever. Me and my sister came in for lunch a little after 12. We walk to the counter and the lady asked us if we were picking up an order or trying to place one. I then responded and asked if we could eat in. She told us a table needed to be cleaned before letting us sit down (no problem)mind you there was only 2 tables when we got there. We waited 25 minutes before being seated to the point we already knew what we wanted before even being seated because we looked over a menu. We finally were seated and the waitress comes over to us (don't know her name), asks what we want to drink, my sister got a "mimosa" and I got a coke. She didn't hear me when I said can I get a coke so she says "what did you say" RUDE. She takes our order and doesn't return for 15 minutes with our drinks!! At this point the other two tables have left and it was just us, so this was unacceptable. She brings back a watery mimosa with lettuce floating in it, and a coke with hardly no ice. She then tells us that my sister can't get the lunch special because she couldn't find it in the system. Wtf!! So before she left I asked for a cup of ice, she returns with a tiny glass of ice and slams it on the table and walks away. Our appetizer comes out fries were good but had to flag our waitress down AGAIN. No plates, no napkins, no ranch, and my sister needed a water because the mimosa was horrendous. She finally brings it all over after almost eating our entire appetizer. Mind you she never removed our dirty dishes from our appetizer before or after she brought over our food. I asked for a burger with ketchup, fried onions, and extra cheese ONLY. Received a burger over cooked with barely any cheese, no ketchup, and lettuce and tomato added which I didn't ask for. I told her before she even walked away and she took my plate out of my hands and complained about me to the cook in which I heard smh. She brings a CUP of ketchup back and said "we can't put ketchup on your burger because it's just not something we do" Are you kidding me???? I bite into my burger there is so many fried onions that it was hard to even eat without getting a glob of it in my mouth. Had to flag her down again for some ranch, In which she said "let me clean off my table first and then I will" excuse me??! We finally finished our meal as we sat for another 20 minutes with no re fills and waiting for a check but she was too busy talking to the lady at the front and laughing she didn't even come check on us. So I got up and walked to the front to find someone to get my check and she had a smirk on her face and was just so rude. Please tell this girl she better get it together because she's gonna piss the wrong one off of these days. I've never in my life had a bad experience like this. We are 2 1/2 hours away and will make sure no one eats here with this kind of work place. Not once did she ask was our food good, if we needed anything else, or even a high and bye.
